Annual Art Show May 2012 “Labeled”

The Center for Hope and Healing is dedicated to eradicating all forms of social oppression. In line with this mission our annual art show is being titled “Labeled” and encourages anyone to explore the ways in which they label themselves to others and how others with or without permission label them. Even if we say we do not believe in labels those around, use them to describe and figure us out. Who we are and what groups and classifications we belong to seem to be beginning questions of any encounter. Demographic information is gathered on many of the forms we fill-out.

Some examples of labels could be: Veteran, Baker, Christian, Survivor, Gay, Lesbian, Parent, Male, Female, Hispanic, White, Tall, Short, Disabled, Blind, Skinny, Fat…

We encourage you to think about how you are labeled or how others label you and explore those themes in your works.We are encouraging artists to explore these topics of oppression, identity, equality and assimilation through various mediums.

We are accepting pieces from any mediums. Please fill-out the form accompanying this letter to submit with your piece. All pieces submitted for consideration should be delivered to the Center for Hope & Healing’s offices at 144 Merrimack Street; Suite 304; Lowell, MA 01852 by April 28.

We are looking for a variety of works and themes; we do have the capability to play video and audio pieces during the exhibition. Performance and spoken word pieces will also be considered.
