The other night my dog passed away. Looking back over the past ten years I realized that I had learned many valuable lessons from her. This post is a summary of those lessons, for your benefit …and a eulogy. This is not a Thoreau-ian post about how we should get back in touch with nature, but more about how I grew from seeing the world through a completely different perspective. However, isn’t – being in touch with the world around you – just what being environmentally friendly is all about? … [visit site to read more]

My Plight

I recently had a huge project. that I could not finish. I kept putting it off, for months actually. I tried working on it, a little bit at a time – every day for an hour. But you can never get comfortable enough to actually work. And the more time passes, the more anxiety builds up and the harder it gets to actually work. … [visit site to read more]

Since then, I’ve taken several of the Dale Carnegie Training courses and have never been disappointed. “How to Win Friends and Influence People” is revered as one of the top business interpersonal relations book on the market, over 70 years after it was first published. In this article I’d like to share with you some thoughts about the structure of the book to help a reader understand the bigger picture, and internalize the message even better.

Dale Carnegie wrote his book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” as a textbook for his classes at the YMCA in “Effective Communications & Human Relations”. The book is divided into three parts: … [visit site to read more]

“I’m so STUPID! How could I DO that?!”
“I’m such an Idiot!”

Do these statements sound familiar? If they do, then you are probably hurting yourself.

Mantras were originally used in meditation as a way to aid concentration. What happens is that when you keep repeating a phrase or sentence your conscious mind gets bored and, basically, goes numb. Once this happens, your subconscious can surface, as it does when you are dreaming, and you go into an altered state of mind. This altered state is similar to where our mind goes when it is sleeping or when you are daydreaming. … [visit site to read more]

Sticky is when visitors keep coming back. They’re stuck on you. On your site. They want more and more. This is a site owner’s dream. Advertising requests come without asking for them. And it’s true, you have to. If you don’t, life will just pass you by.

But it’s not always so simple. How does one create luck?

In the days of yore homo sapiens studied the world to get ahead. Because of this, man has evolved to connect between a cause and an effect. When ancient man saw that he could create fire by hitting two stones together, he kept on doing it and when ancient man saw that it rained when he danced before the Gods at the right time of year, he kept on doing that as well.

Two situations, one reflects the reality, and the other … well who am I to judge.

But herein lies lesson one: … [visit site to read more]

Social networks have been growing rapidly. EVERYONE who is ANYONE is a part of at LEAST one and usually many networking platforms. Some use them for reconnecting with long-lost friends, while others use it to aggressively market their new… whositzwhatzit.

But with so many new and crazy things out there it’s hard to decide what to use and the best way to use them… In this networking article I will describe to two that have been getting the most clout lately – Facebook and Twitter – what they’re good for, and how you might be able to use them for your benefit.

Networking

Until the outburst of social networking, networking was something that you had to be outgoing to do. In today’s world it’s just a matter of the click of a button and you can make new connections … and now it is even “cool” to do so.

But just as you probably wouldn’t go to an art conference to network for your new breakthrough-medical-cure, you also don’t want to use the tools available today in the wrong ways. … [visit site to read more]

The days are warmer, flowers are blooming, spring is in the air, and so is pollen… for those of us suffering from allergies to pollen or hay fever, the thought of frolicking in the fields while the warm breeze plays with our hair is a nightmare. It means incessant sneezing, mucus and red noses. It means trouble breathing, and thus trouble sleeping at night. Spring is made for those who do not have hypersensitive immune systems.

The person you meet will be a very different person from the one that you become friends with. I’m saying this from being a friend addict. Well …recovering.

I love watching the transformation of a stranger becoming a friend.

Think from your own personal experience. When you meet someone new you do not expose yourself completely. You would be crazy if you did! And if you show who you really are to everyone you meet, you probably get hurt a lot. It’s just the way people are. We protect ourselves, instinctively. When you enter into a new situation you will be cautious and the same goes for meeting new people–you will be cautious.

What this means is that when you meet someone, you are not meeting the “whole” person. You are not getting to know the “real” them. … [visit site to read more]
