Domino's Pizza DVD

In partnership with ten video rental stores in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero (and with the help of Brazil-based agency, Artplan) Domino's Pizza recently created DVDs that release the smell of a pizza (and even look like pizzas!) when "heated up".

New titles—such as Argo, Skyfall and The Dark Knight—were stamped with thermal ink and flavoured varnish, both sensitive to the heat generated by DVD players. When users finished watching the movie and ejected the DVD, they saw an image of and could smell fresh-baked pizza. The "heated up" DVDs also carried the message: "Did you enjoy the movie? The next one will be even better with a hot and delicious Domino's Pizza."

Check out the video below to see the "heated up" DVDs in action.

Smart Beer Bottle

With the help of advertising agency Tribal DDB Amsterdam, Heineken has come up with what they are calling the world's first "smart beer bottle".

The new bottle uses micro sensors and wireless networking technology to respond to a variety of different actions. Clinking two bottles together causes them to light up simultaneously, while taking a drink causes LED lights to flicker. The bottle also responds to music and the output of specific audio and data cues—for example, it can detect different kinds of motion like cheering, drinking or sitting idly on the bar counter.

Check out the video below to see the bottles in their natural environment...a chaotic nightclub!

World's First Water-Making Billboard

This billboard in rural Peru—a collaboration between outdoor advertising owner ClearChannel Peru, Lima's University of Engineering and Technology, media agency BNP and advertising agency Mayo Publicidad—transforms humidity in the air into filtered water.

Since the billboard's arrival in 2012, the billboard has produced an average of 96 litres of water a day, which is used by between 15 and 18 families in Bujama (a village around 100km south of Lima—one of the world's largest desert capitals).

Wikipedia Edited In Real Time

Wikipedia is constantly growing as it is written and rewritten by people around the world. To illustrate this, Stephen La Porte and Mahmoud Hashemi have created a real-time map of recent changes, revealing (roughly) where each contributor is located.

Only contributions from unregistered users are captured at the moment (which account for approximately 20% of all the edits made on the English-language version of Wikipedia)... It's still fascinating to see the map update nonetheless.

Toronto-based creative design company Playground Inc recently presented their ideas for future Google Glass apps, showing how heads up displays might change our interactions with everything from a carton of milk to our friends in future.
Subliminal Messages in Corporate Logos

Business Insider has compiled a list of corporate logos that contain subliminal messages.

The logo of e-commerce giant Amazon.com, for example, contains an arrow that points from A to Z, referring to all that is available on the site. It also doubles as satisfied smile!

...While the logo of ice-cream outlet Baskin Robbins uses the company's initials to advertise the number of ice cream flavours that it sells (31).

TOGO Burger

It's always a struggle to open a door or take a call when you have your takeaway in one hand and a drink in another. This innovative new design by Rhode Island School of Design student Seulbi Kim could remove all of the hassle. Simply slide your fries and burger into designated slots in this cardboard purse, slip the cup into the hole at the bottom, then fold and grab by the handles and get on with your life.

Facebook has had a fair few updates in past months: from an updated news feed to Facebook Home. California-based comedy group Extremely Decent has created this amusing sketch, which looks at a (slightly extreme) version of what a Facebook update would be like in real life!

ORPHEA Billboard Trap

To promote ORPHEA's Protezione 4D insecticide, Publicis Italy created a billboard ad that traps insects.

The campaign saw transparent glue applied to the billboard's surface in the shape of a jet spray coming from an insecticide can. As time passed, flies and mosquitoes became trapped in the glue, making the jet spray visible. Check out the time lapse video below to see the billboard in action.

Programmer Anton Wallén has created a totally addictive game—GeoGuessr—based on Google street view. You're shown five different places and for each have to guess where you think they are.

Jumbled Typeface

People with dyslexia often have trouble reading because the text doesn't sit still on the page (or screen); their brains flip, rotate and rearrange the letters while they try to make sense of the words. Sydney-based designer Felix Lobelius has taken these difficulties into consideration and created a typeface that is devoted to helping dyslexics perceive text better.
