To get an indented listing for one of your keywords, do the following:

1. You must have a web page that already has a top 10 ranking for that keyword.
2. Create a second web page on the same domain that links to the first web page that has the top 10 ranking. Optimize the second page for the same keyword as page one but use different content.
3. Link from the first page to the second page with your keyword phrase in the anchor text. If possible, use a contextual link within a body of text rather than a site-wide navigational link.
4. Get inbound links for the second page. Depending on the competition for the keyword, a few high-quality links can be enough to get the indented result.

If your website has two links on Google’s result page, then it will represent 20% of the organic results instead of the regular 10%.That means that you’ll get more clicks and more visitors. It would be foolish not to optimize a second page for your keywords.

The article talks about the different schools of thought in regard to search engine optimization. One school of thought is that on-page optimization, or as they refer to as content SEO, is the best way to receive rankings in the search engines. The other school of thought is that anchor text and links are the best way to obtain rankings.

The article concludes by saying that anchor text and links are more important than than content SEO and as a result are more important.

What the article does not talk about is the business aspects of these theories. It has always been my goal to find a business model for the search engine optimization specialists to be able to serve small to medium sized businesses in their quest to generate business on the internet. Any model has to be able to offer concrete and measurable results at cost effective price.

When you look at the industry this way, the only current way in which that can be accomplished is by offering content SEO. Anchor text and linking is too vague and too abstract for small to medium sized businesses to invest in as a form of advertising.

The industry is still in what I call the “Wild West Phase” of development so there are more scam artists than real search engine optimization specialists and so the industry has a bad name. These scam artists focus on selling anchor text and linking strategies because they can’t be tracked or measured accurately.

While I agree that this method if done right and over a period of time is more beneficial to website owners, the costs associated with this method are too expensive to justify to the small to medium sized business owner.

As a result, as a so called specialist in the industry, I focus my efforts with clients on the content SEO aspects of optimization because the services it makes the services I provide measurable, trackable and affordable to small to medium sized business owners.

The next step is actually the hardest step and that is the marketing of the website. Building it when you know what you are doing is great for the future, but isn’t going to put food on the table today.

All the effort put in to build the right platform is important but the results of these efforts won’t be seen at least for the next 6 months.

Now on to the SEM. Marketing the website online to generate business.

• Create the template to build the pages. This is accomplished by using separate PHP includes files for the header, navigation and footer.
• Build out all the pages to be used on the website.
• Create and insert the content into each page.
• Optimize each page using basic optimization techniques.
• Create internal links
• Create Site Map.

For a 20 page website, this should take an individual between 20-40 hours depending on the complexity of each page.

Although I came to this decision with a bit of a heavy heart, I knew it was the right decision and as always, I won’t regret the decision. 

The decision did not come quickly. After some unfortunate decisions which I made back in the fall of 2007, it was clear that I needed a new direction. As such, I began making sure that the clients which I had taken on over the years which were not in the real estate industry were properly taken care of. This process took about 3 months and in January of this year, I began the full time search for an opportunity were I could implement my newly developed skills.  Over the course of January and Febraury, I interviewed for a number of very interesting positions, but for one reason or another did not get the position. 

During this process however, many people asked me what I had done over the past few years and what skills I would bring to the new position. This got me thinking and made me realize that although the company Site Tutor was a Search Engine Friendly Design and Development company,  my strenghs came from my acquired knowledge base of learning about Hosting, Web Coding, Databases , Online Marketing and specifically Search Engine Optimization. 

As I thought about this more and more, I realized that not only did I need to focus my effortts on one industry, but I needed to consolidate my efforts and brand myself as a true “Internet Marketing Consulant”.  In addition, while I enjoyed working with small companies and individuals who are just learning, their budgets did not support my efforts to support my family.   

So I made a decision which I beleive will take me about a 12 months to implement.  More Tomorrow.

They are not programmers, meaning they don’t create database driven websites, but great designers who also know how to build search engine friendly websites in HTML, ASP or PHP. If you have individuals you are interested in working with, make sure they have the following skills:

• Website Design and Navigation Skills (Different than print design or logo design etc..)
• Use Includes Files in the development of the website. This makes it easier for updating in the future.

OK, so you chose your designer. The next step is to provide them with a website outline so they can create a screen shot design for you to review. The outline should include the following:

• The color palette of the colors you want to use. This will come from the logo or you can also use a color chart. The color chart I have used in the past are located here….Color Charts

• The information you want in the header. This is important because the header is the same on each page.
• What type of Navigation you want to use. Horizontal Navigation, Vertical Navigation or Both.
• Layout of the content area: 1 column, 2 columns or 3 columns.
• What information you want in the footer located on the bottom of the page.
• A sitemap of all the major pages being developed for the website. The sitemap is a list of all the pages on the website, but for a developer / designer, it is the blueprint for the website, just like blueprints are used to build a house.

Once the designer has this information, they can then use their creative genius to create a design of the Home Page of the website.  In  regard to Perfect Property Websites, I will be using designs from Second Platform Designs.  I will post the mock-ups so that you can see the various choices.

So here is the first secret which I am revealing. Instead of paying $300 to $500 to a company for them to design a few logos from which you need to choose one, you can run a contest online for about 1/2 the cost and you can receive sometimes upwards of 50 different designs to choose from. Over the course of the last 4 years we have worked with clients who want to do what it takes to be successful on the internet.  This has been the primary focus of the business.  This has been very rewarding as it is a new industry with very few people really understanding the industry so if there is such a thing, I could consider myself an expert in the industry. Practically speaking however, I don’t think there are any experts, just individuals with a tremendous amount of knowledge practicing their craft each and every day.

Over this period, I have also worked with more established agents who have a strong business already but want to use the internet from the perspective of streamlining their business and using the tools provided by the internet.  Their main objective is not primarily generating leads, but providing the marketing necessary to offer a complete marketing and backend solution to buyers and sellers. This is where perfect property websites fits into the overall picture.

Property Websites are an “online marketing brochure” at a cost effective price.  They are great for Real Estate Agents to use in their listing presentations, FSBO’s to use when trying to sell their home, property managers and rental agents to promote their rental listings online and investors or builders looking to promote a new property or development.

The key to the success of this product will be the ability to cost effectively market the property over the internet.  Since the pricing of this product is geared to the mass market, there is only a small margin so the key to my efforts will be to generate enough traffic to the website via the internet to make it a profitable venture.
