During the last days i’ve been playing around with tumblr, a miniblog service that is something between a real blog and twitter. There are thousands of tumblogs out there, many of them devoted to photography, fashion and other cool stuff i like. I’m having a lot of fun surfing the tumblrverse and finding inspiering new photos from artists that are more talented than me and to share them with the world anybody who’s interested. I’m also trying to pull in my flickr favorites, but tumblr still seems to have some issues with importing rss feeds, because except for one item, nothing has been imported yet. Nevertheless, I discovered some really good stuff, so if you want to, you might check it out (sometimes nsfw).

And just to make this clear: none of the photos shown on rebelreflex.tumblr.com (if not other stated) are mine! I credit the authors by a clickthrough link and/or a link to the source at best knowledge and belief. If there should be any photo that you do not want to be shown on my tumblr, just let me know and I will remove it immediately.

And for the social web enthusiasts: as you already might have notived, my tumblr posts are also published on twitter, but I think you people over there can handle it.

Another nice feature comes with the tumblog: you can now (anonymously) ask me questions about anything you want to know, answers will be published on the tumblog.

Today is Bastille day, the french national holiday. It’s a remembering day for the storming of the bastille in 1789, the beginning of the french revolution. The photo above shows the place de la bastille, but there’s nothing left of the notorious prison of the ancien régime. The big column in the middle of the place commemorates of the july revolution in 1830, which marks the end of the bourbon restoration in france. The guy on the picture is my dad, btw.

flickr favorite friday

New Feature: Facebook-Integration

Just to let you know, there is now a Facebook page for this blog. So if you’re signed in to Facebook, you can follow this blog with one click and new articles will show up in your newsfeed. This is a very simple way to stay connected to this blog without any rss hacks or other nerdy stuff. Next step is to get at least 25 “Fans” on the new Facebook-page, so that I get the permission to register a real username like facebook.com/rebelreflex. So, come on people, and tell your friends! ;)

Besides that, I have installed the famous Facebook “Like” button at the end of each blog post, so you can show your friends what you think about the articles with just one click. Still, the button plugin seems a little bit buggy to me, so I’ll keep testing it. Maybe you could give me a little feedback if it worked for you…

Last but not least, I’ve implemented some fancy social network icons up in the sidebar which make it easier to follow this blog on Facebook, flickr, twitter or via rss. You might ask why this blog needs all this fancy Facebook stuff, and the answer surely is: it doesn’t. But on the other hand, it would be nice to get to know my readers a little better, and in the end I’m just doing it because I can. Simple as that. Thank you for your attention.

Fête de la musique (argentique)

Some shots from last week’s Fête de la musique in Paris, France. Photos were taken with a Pentax Spotmatic and Asahi Super Takumar 1:1.4/50 on Fuji Color 200.

The last picture is a multiexposure I acidentially took, because the film broke (as you can see above) and I didn’t notice it right away. But I like the effect anyway.

Easter walk

Sophie van der Perre

Spring had it’s short intermezzo last week and gave us a taste of what summer could be like. Same do the photos of Sophie van der Perre, 22. Long days of silk mat sunlight, teenage innocence and the pure joy of life in a warm atmosphere of scandinavian summers. Sophie was born in Belgium but lives in Amsterdam at the moment and shoots a lot with film cameras such as Hasselblad, Holga, Canon, Polaroid and so on. She also portraits (her) urban life in a very interesting way, as well as herself, sometimes.

Michael G. Magin

Right, many of Michael G. Magin’s photos show nude women. But if you just want to get horny, go find other places for that on the net. I am posting this because I am fascinated by the technical aspects of Magin’s photography. It is just great how he controls the interaction of soft light and strong colors in his photos. Nothing is left to chance, and the perfect dof just makes them brilliant masterpieces of portrait photography. And just fyi, Magin has also some great landscape shots in his flickrstream. He works as professional photographer in Mannheim, Germany.
