Gestartet als kleines Nischenfestival Ende der 90er, zieht es mittlerweile über 300.000 Besucher jedes Jahr zum Carnival. Wo sonst als in Las Vegas können Menschen aus aller Welt für ein Wochenende alles vergessen und sich den hypnotischen Beats der Computer hingeben? Die Stadt in der Wüste bietet die perfekte Kulisse, die umliegenden Casinos und Resorts des Strips bieten den Besuchermengen zusätzliche Ablenkung – schließlich wurde „Sin City“ für vergnügungswillige Realitätsflüchtlinge gebaut und eignet sich somit bestens für Großveranstaltungen dieser Art.

In den letzten Jahren weitet sich der EDC auch auf andere US-amerikanische Städte und sogar Puerto Rico aus. Im Januar wurde der Startschuss in Chicago gesetzt, und im Sommer – genauer gesagt im Juli – kommt das Festival das erste Mal auch nach Europa: in Londons Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park kann das Festival zeigen, was es zu bieten hat. Bereits bestätigt sind Steve Angello und David Guetta, außerdem werden auch Tiesto und Hardwell als Headliner erwartet.

Man wird wohl den EDC in den nächsten Jahren fest zum Repertoire der amerikanischen Festivals rechnen müssen. Neben Coachella, SXSW und Loolapalooza gibt es nun einen weiteren Grund, mal einen Abstecher über den Atlantik zu machen. Es wird also höchste Zeit!
