Our good friends Queens Club just came out with their debut Nightmarer EP on Tooth and Nail Records. They asked Max Justus to remix the title track for the release. Max brings his signature dark vibe to the track giving it a pulsing electronic rhythm through out. Max finds a way to bend and warp the original track into something all together new.

Also tomorrow marks the start of Max’s whirlwind NYC tour. He will be doing 3 shows over the course of the next six days. If you happen to be in NYC we would love to see you out.

Sam Billen’s new record Headphones and Cellphones is now available on Itunes, Amazon, Emusic and several other digital download stores. Physical copies will be coming to The Record Machine store soon. He is also in the process of creating a covers album that we will be releasing for free. It will be called Removers. On what would appear to be an average Sunday night in Minneapolis, Capybara parked their handsome van on a dark street by a park downtown, and piled out. As they walked down the lighted loading dock toward the St Anthony Main building, it was almost in slow motion that they looked around them, without expectation. But as they met the friendly handshakes and smiles of a team who habitually greets the Twin Cities a healthy serving of color and piz-spaz once a week, (every week), little did Capybara know that they would leave different than they came; more awake, and even — deeky.

Sam Billen did a podcast for his hometown Lawrence.com about the release of his new record Headphones and Cellphones that comes out next week. He also seems to mention his love of Surge a few times. They played the entire new record but more like a dvd commentary with an interview over the top of it.

This month song celebrates some convergence of Record Machine artists. Our artist Sam Billen put together a sweet little remix for Capybara’s The Wimp. We thought it would be a great way to celebrate two things.

1) Sam’s new album Headphones and Cellphones comes out on the 27th
2) We were in need of a kick off to our Capybara – The Wimp Remix Competition.

This month song of the month is by The Moves. Sometimes songs are born out of the spurr of moment just as this one was. My good friend Aree(see TSD) sent me this song recently to be submitted to a contact. I loved the song so much I told him that we would feature it this month for our song of the month.

Which KCOU among many other stations around the country are playing Capybara. They debuted at #156 on the CMJ charts last week. They are now up to #128. Capybara

Capybara has now left KC and is on their big 3 month west coast tour. You really should go check them out if you are out west. They will be all over the place and you can find dates on their myspace. But they are making a brief stop in next week to play at the Replay Lounge and Record Bar on the 7th and 8th of September. A couple of songs from the record were featured on MVB Music and Said The Gramophone. The record is also out to college radio right now. So if you work at a college radio station dig around for a bit and you should find it. Thanks the 19 stations that already playing it. It is was the 16th most added record this week on CMJ.

The Billen Brothers

As for the Billen Brothers the record is Soundtrack to a film about a Topeka Deli. The brothers grew up in Topeka and were asked to create some fitting songs. If you want you can check out this Behind The Music Feature:

In other Billen news Sam is just about finished with his new record Headphones and Cellphones. It should come out in October. It is a really beautiful record and sure to please many long time Billions fans and make quite a few ones too.

We are very excited to debut some new material from Sam Billen for this month’s Song of the Month. He recently took a trip to Tokyo, Japan to visit his in-laws and decided to do some recording while he was there. This EP is a result of his time spent there. Sam has a new full length coming out this fall. I was lucky to be in the studio this weekend while Sam and Max Justus were mixing it and I am still really blown away by the new material. I can’t wait to get it out for all to hear.

We had about 200 or more people packed into Bryce’s house for so much fun they almost fined us. This time we are having it at a proper venue: The Czar Bar. It will be to celebrate Perhapsy coming to Kansas City in support of their new record. They will be joined by Capybara and Sam Billen. This month’s song of the month is the debut of The Parade Schedule on the site. The Parade Schedule is Matt Kinder and a revolving cast of musicians. As The Parade Schedule Kinder crafts classic sounding folk songs that feature his soothing baritone voice and guitar with just the right amount of backing instrumentation to fill out the songs. Some songs on his debut Trees To Be Cut, Seeds To Be Planted feature as many as 16 people singing harmonies. For the song of the month he gives us his track Old. The Parade Schedule will be playing shows across the midwest this fall.

First thing first we have a few exciting upcoming Kansas City shows. One is a not so secret basement show on July 18th with State Bird, Max Justus, Parade Schedule, and Capybara. We aren’t going to release the address for the show for another week. So keep your eyes on twitter for more infomation. We also have another showcase we are throwing on August 5th at Czar Bar with Capybara, Perhapsy, and Sam Billen. So that is 6 of our bands coming to KC in just a short time.

Capybara

We have signed Kansas City band Capybara and are going to re-release a new mastered version of their debut record Try Brother next month. They are going to be on tour for over 3 months from August to December. The tour will cover all parts of the country so you will have plenty of time and options to hear them.

Sam & Dan Billen

Sam & Dan Billen have worked on creating a documentary soundtrack for Porubsky’s Deli in Topeka. The record will also come out next month as a digital only release. Sam has also recorded a digital ep for us that we will be releasing next month as the song of the month.

The Parade Schedule

We are shooting for a September release of The Parade Schedule – Seeds To Be Planted, Trees To Be Cut.They are going to be going playing several shows in July and August. Check the shows page for information. We are going to be launching their first song of the month next week with their song Old.

This Tuesday is the digital release of Perhapsy – Perhapsy you will be to get it at Itunes, Emusic, and Amazon.com. The physical cd will be ready in time for their tour in August. Which is starting to coming together nicely. If you are able to help out in the cities that are yet to be booked that would be great.
