I was walking my dog last night around 9:30pm. I pass by this house that has mildly annoying cameras that say “hi you are currently being recorded, every 5 feet on the side of the house with a bright light that flashes in your face as you walk by. Which while annoying if that was all, would have been whatever. Then they started talking to me through the camera telling me to leave immediately or they will call the police. Even after I had already moved way past the house, I could still hear them (both a man and a woman) threatening to call the police. I just ignored it and kept walking but thought it was crazy that some people think they own the sidewalk by their house.

Edit: Wow i did not realize this post would get so much traction! I’m glad you all got some entertainment out of this too!

Food: Cuban croissant and a cortadito

I started dating a guy last August. Met “in the wild”, he’s the friend of a good friend. Good chemistry. He’s a genuinely good and loyal guy that truly loves me. However, I started to notice some issues that spooked me. Mediocre job. Low motivation to improve his place in life. Not great finances. Poor eating and exercise habits. He forgets to buy toilet paper often and I’ve had to use paper towels. Just lives kind of a blah life. I stayed though because he treated me well and I thought well, if he loves me this much, then he can change.

As time went on I also noticed that he has some childish coping mechanisms. Will get upset over small things (like if I leave his home on a Sunday instead of a Monday because I have other plans outside of him). And instead of communicating, he sulks and gets moody. When I try to communicate, he shuts down.

With all of the above, I feel like I’m dating a moody teenager. He’s 36 years old. I work in a high intensity job, I raise my two kids alone, I train for and run long distance races, I have a robust social life, I travel the world, and I feel like living with him would be me picking up the slack.

Why do I feel guilty? Because this man would die for me. He helps me around my house when needed. He loves me and I feel it. But I just don’t love him. Should I give him a harsh talk and see if it snaps him out of it? Ugh

Being frozen in ice for extended periods of time is harmless in most media, but very dangerous in real life due to things like frostbite and hypothermia, not to mention the chances of starvation, dehydration, or suffocation (example: the caveman from Scooby Doo: Where Are You?)

Being extremely close to lava, an extremely hot substance, for extended periods of time is absolutely not safe - if the heat doesn't get you, the smoke will (example: Syndrome's lair from The Incredibles)

Sound can't travel in space, but in movies it almost always does so the epic battles can be more cinematic (example: literally any Star Wars space battle)

Being knocked unconscious by being whacked in the head with a solid object is incredibly unlikely - if the hit is too soft, it'll just be a slight bump, but if it's too hard you risk brain damage or even death (example: Rapunzel's frying pan from Tangled)

Being blasted with electricity in media typically just stuns people (often with a comical skeleton), but in real life that much electricity would severely injure or even kill you (example: Element of Lightning from Ninjago)

Sometimes a movie shows something that feels ridiculous, exaggerated, or too cinematic, but then you find out that part is actually weirdly true to life.

For me, Whiplash is a good example.

A lot of people treat it like pure over the top movie drama but the obsessive pressure, humiliation, and talent worship in certain elite spaces feels very real.

What is a movie moment, character, job, or dynamic that seemed fake at first but later felt uncomfortably accurate?
