‘Can't Believe’: Sunny Hostin Justifies Skepticism of Trump 2024 Win #Political

Throughout 2025, ABC’s purported “bona fide news program” The View repeatedly suggested that President Donald Trump stole the 2024 presidential election, without evidence and without even a theory about how it could have been done. However, during Monday’s episode, co-host Sunny Hostin proclaimed that peddlers of such conspiracy theories were justified in their concerns because it was just so shocking of an outcome. She also claimed that it’s somehow better for states to take a long time to count votes.

Their conversation about election skepticism was spurred on by Trump’s recent interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, where he reiterated his claims about the 2020 presidential election results.

“Well, he's never provided any credible evidence of election fraud!” moderato Whoopi Goldberg shouted. “Why is it every time they lose, it's election fraud? And every time we win, it's election fraud? Why is it always fraud? What do you make of this?”

Faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin ignored The View’s repeated election denials of 2024’s results just so she could mock Republicans: “You don't have a lot of Republicans screaming that the 2024 election was stolen, because Donald Trump won.”

The View has repeatedly claimed Trump stole the 2024 presidential election and plans to steal the midterms, without evidence, but have an issue with Trump saying 2020 was stolen. Yet, fake conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin suggests Republicans are the hypocrites:

Hypocritically, The View had repeatedly claimed that all Republican victories were the result of cheating and rigged elections. They have openly suggested it was the only way Republicans could ever win.

With California still counting votes for nearly a week, Farah Griffin did lament that they needed to change the laws to allow them to get results the night of the election. But Goldberg and Hostin loudly decried the idea; with Hostin saying it was completely “not impossible” for California to achieve what nearly every other state in the union was able to (Click "expand"):

FARAH GRIFFIN: But I will say, people tend to not trust elections when it takes a real long time to count votes. L.A. and California in general need to figure out how to do this quicker. Change the laws so you can do it in one day.

GOLDBERG: NO! [Scoffs]

FARAH GRIFFIN: Florida has a lot of mail-in and they get their results the same night. It makes people feel like, 'oh, there's something off,' but it's not. It's how their rules are, they're dumb rules.

HOSTIN: I feel the exact opposite. I think if someone is taking their time to count the votes, I think if someone is looking at every single thing, because in California, it's the most populous state. We all know that. (…) And so, it does take a long time to be right, to do it well.

FARAH GRIFFIN: Why can Florida do it right in one night though?

HOSTIN: I don't think you can do it when you have 23 million registered voters! It's just not possible!

What got Hostin to openly back the conspiracy that Trump stole the 2024 election was pretend independent co-host Sara Haines lamenting that election denial was becoming mainstream in the Democratic Party. Hostin suggested they were right to be skeptical, and receiving a roaring applause from the studio audience:

HAINES: It's mainstream with the Republicans, but Alyssa, I'll take it one step further, Democrats now are questioning the elections. They went from having an 89 percent pre-2024 belief in the system to 64 percent trust in the system.

HOSTIN: And people can't believe Trump won! [Laughter]

[Applause]

FARAH GRIFFIN: That's not the flex you think it is.

Sunny Hostin, who claimed for years Trump stole the 2016 election, says people are right to think Trump stole the 2024 presidential election and gets a roaring applause from the audience:

First, Haines was misleading that Democrats were only now engaging in election denialism. Looking back, Democrats rejected the results of the 2000 election. More recently, they pushed the Russia Collusion Hoax because Democrats refused to believe they lost to Trump legitimately.

In fact, Hostin had pushed the conspiracy theory then too. Only apologizing six years later when then-newly minted White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took on that role and was being criticized for it. At the time, Goldberg defended Jean-Pierre by saying she was “doing her part.” What that “part” was for, Goldberg never explained.

Hostin’s renewed support for election denial was yet another example of her blatant double standard on the subject, where her claims were facts and others were conspiracy theories.

HOSTIN: I don't think you can do it when you have 23 million registered voters! It's just not possible! And so - it's - it's -

FARAH GRIFFIN: I think it is.

HOSTIN: It's not possible.

FARAH GRIFFIN: It's the mail-in voting, they don't start counting it until Election Day. You could start counting it before.

HOSTIN: But it accounts for 80 percent of votes. So, that's the problem. Mail in voting counts for 80 percent of the votes. The only time Republicans started having a problem with mail-in voting is when Democrats started to use mail-in voting more.

SARA HAINES: But if you're really reflecting on yourself, this problem has been about a decade long. Because prior to 2016, I never heard people talking about, it was a fringe amount of people that thought, there's a conspiracy here. It was not mainstream.

HAINES: But my point here is it started with the QAnon fringes, it went mainstream with the Republicans, it's starting to go mainstream with independents and Democrats.

The big problem here is when you divide the ranks of all people, the voting republic that have the currency of a vote, and you say, 'it's rigged! It doesn't matter,' we only get 64 percent of eligible voters to our polls anyway.

The way to keep power consolidated at the top is to create division among the bottom. There's a bigger problem at play here, that is not partisan. It needs to be stopped. We cannot keep doing that.

There's a certain amount of suspension of trust. I don't believe elections to any extreme level have ever been rigged. I stand by that. There's been no proof of any other thing.

NBC Took Until Saturday for a Lead AM or PM Show to Mention NYT Story on Platner #Political

Despite the rumored New York Times story on Maine Democrat Graham Platner’s past relationships breaking Thursday afternoon, NBC took until Saturday night to mention it on either of their flagship newscasts — Today or Nightly News — before quickly dropping it thereafter, while ABC and CBS have covered it repeatedly since Friday.

Saturday Nightly News anchor Jose Diaz-Balart’s tease couldn’t have been any more vague: “A controversial Senate candidate and one of the most high-profile races in the country. Now, he’s fighting for his political life and pushing back against new allegations.”

Diaz-Balart was slightly more specific at the start of the one-minute-and-52-second piece: “Now to Maine and one of the most high-profile Senate races in the country. Democratic candidate Graham Platner speaking out, defending himself against new allegations with a primary just days away.”

Correspondent Monica Alba said Platner used a Friday night rally “to address new allegations of toxic and unsettling behavior from three women, who spoke with The New York Times about past romantic relationships with him.”

After a clip of Platner claiming “every single piece” of his “journey” has been “weaponized,” Alba didn’t even go into detail about what ex-girlfriends such as Lyndsey Fifield described to The Times, down to his abusive and erratic behavior, inappropriate touching, and promise to rape any home intruders.

Instead, she said this was “the latest scandal for the combat veteran and oyster farm owner-turned-politician, running to unseat five-term incumbent Republican Susan Collins, who called the accusations troubling, but some of his supporters had been able to overlook them.”

Her proof was an elderly, white male Mainer who gushed these stories are “refreshing” because they’re proof he’s “own[ed] up to stuff” and “working to be a better person.”

Alba spoke to Maine newspaperman Alex Seitz-Wald, but curiously left out the fact that he used to work for NBC and then-sister network MSNBC:

ALBA: Alex Seitz-Wald covers politics for Maine’s Mid-Coast Villager newspaper. [TO SEITZ-WALD] It’s not the first controversy for Plattner, but could this be a bit of a breaking point?

SEITZ-WALD: I do think this scandal is hitting differently for supporters. It’s created this perception that there might be another shoe that’s going to drop.

“With three days until the primary, Democratic leadership is largely sticking by Platner, though some are voicing concerns,” she added ahead of a soundbite from Michigan Democrat Congresswoman Debbie Dingell making clear she wouldn’t do anything to help him.

With this having been the only Platner/exes story on a flagship NBC morning or evening show thus far, Alba’s gentle, pro-Platner framing was all the more ludicrous: “Platner, while saying in the past he was not a perfect boyfriend, denies ‘anything alleging physicality.’ And, come Tuesday, is likely to become a key part of Democrats’ hopes to win back the Senate.”

On Sunday, the 79th annual Tony Awards premiered on CBS, pushing the typical left-wing awards show narcissism that audiences have learned to avoid.

Pop star Pink, who once mocked Charlie Kirk's funeral, served as the host and peppered her opening monologue with leftist shibboleths as she rattled off nominated plays.

“This year, the worst parts of history began repeating itself, and we were given Ragtime and Liberation. This year, our country grew more divided than ever, and we were given Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York). This year, our trans siblings started to lose even more rights, and we were given Cats: The Jellicle Ball," she said.

The trend of speaking in apocalyptic language about the state of the country and the world is a staple of awards shows when Trump is President. John Lithgow, who won Best Leading Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Roald Dahl in Giant, told the audience during his speech that Giant "is a play about cruelty in a cruel age, and it is an extraordinarily important play at this moment."

The most over-the-top political speech came from Ali Louis Bourzgui, winner of Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in the vampire musical The Lost Boys. His rambling speech managed to toss together the words "queer," "trans," "Palestine," "colonizers," "Arab theater makers" and "vampires" in one big verbal blender.

Liberation, by Bess Wohl won Best Play. According to The New York Times, Liberation is a feminist play "about a consciousness-raising group in 1970s Ohio." Sounds fun!

When accepting her award, Wohl delusionally said, "Thank you for believing that an ensemble play about women's lives belonged on Broadway."

Ensemble plays about women's lives have been on Broadway for decades, from Wendy Wasserstein's work in the late 1980s and 90s to popular musicals like Dreamgirls. In the last decade alone, Tony Award-winning works with female ensemble casts have included Six and Suffs, to name just a few. On what planet does Wohl imagine that plays about women are being kept from the stage?

During the latter half of the ceremony, Pink told the audience: "The powers that be are closing in on the First Amendment. As the strongholds of free speech fall, I think it's important that Broadway stands strong and sticks to its values. Hell yeah! Soon, you may not be able to say what you believe."

The left constantly imagines that their free speech is going to be suppressed when they spent most of the Biden Administration clamping down on the free speech of conservatives and Republicans. They project their behavior onto their opposition.

"I think I'm scared of how free speech is slowly eroding before our eyes, but I'm encouraged, because I think Broadway is actually succeeding at the task of speaking truth to power, and I'm proud to be part of this community," actor Bobby Cannavale told Pink.

The level of arrogance and imagined superiority in the New York theater world may actually beat out even Hollywood. Tourists buy Broadway tickets to hear actors sing, dance, and entertain. The Tony Awards remind audiences every year that these artists view everyone outside their bubble with contempt.

POMPOSITY OVERLOAD: Here Are the Worst Moments From Pelley’s NYT Sitdown #Political

Apparently, the bravest, most important man in America, fired CBS journalist Scott Pelley, sat down for an interview with New York Times podcast host Lulu Garcia-Navarro that aired Sunday (and taped Friday). It was a tour de force in rancorous arrogance and legendary levels of main character syndrome as he denied believing his semi-public berating of 60 Minutes boss Nick Bilton and CBS editor-in-chief Bari Weiss would cause him to lose his job.

A job, we would learn, is on par with American soldiers and perhaps even more important. And, as we also saw, a profession that is inconceivable to him, no one would have grounds to distrust.

The interview began on an insensitive and jarring note as Pelley said the upheaval at CBS News was “like your spouse was murdered” and, through misty eyes, asserted this isn’t “about me” and “I’m fine,” but “these people that I left behind…who are still trapped.” This, he insisted, was “the depth of my devotion.”

Pelley explained “no one saw the Black Thursday massacre coming” in which executive producer Tanya Simon, her deputy, other staff members, and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega were fired.

He said it triggered “dismay” and “shock” to see colleagues he went to war with were laid off. Pelley actually compared it to “when somebody wipes out, murders a large number of your family members, people are hurt and shocked in disbelief and just desperate for some explanation.”

Again, how insensitive to those who’ve actually experienced that heartbreaking scenario. At least Pelley’s colleagues are still alive, and he has his sailboat.

To Garcia-Navarro’s credit, she asked him to explain why he ignored previous overtures from Bilton to talk instead of blow himself up in front of the entire staff:

As for why he unleashed such anger at his bosses, he called it “fate” and broke down in tears when saying “newsrooms are sort of like the military” and have “life-threatening job[s]” with “very strong bonds” that demand “people…go to war zones when…pregnant.”

He added Bari Weiss, Nick Bilton, and their lieutenants “have never felt that” in their lives (click “expand”):

It was fate. First of all, our entire senior staff had been wiped out there and out there. I looked around the room, I’m the only correspondent there, which surprised me very much. I learned that my colleagues were out shooting stories as they should be in the month of June. But I’m the only correspondent there, which surprised me. And I looked around at my friends and colleagues in the room and realized I was the senior person. Only I could do it. None of them could be asked to take that risk. So, when I saw Nick Bilton’s email and then saw him reading to my broken-hearted people off his phone, I felt that somebody had to stand up for the broadcast, not just the broadcast, but the people. There are people in that room who go to war zones when they are pregnant. [SOBBING] Newsrooms are sort of like the military or the police or the beautiful people at the FDNY down the street. It is a life-threatening job in many instances. And very strong bonds, very emotional bonds are found or are developed in that kind of setting. And to have people running CBS News who don’t know that, have never felt that, and don’t understand it, is a tragedy I never expected to see.

Another embarrassing moment came when she twice wondered how Pelley couldn’t have realized attacking management in such a way wouldn’t have led to consequences.

Pelley said it was the “furthest thing from my mind” and “it hadn’t occurred to me.” Thus, he said, he “just didn’t connect the dots,” but said his indignation was appropriate because the series of meetings last week were “about whether 60 Minutes was even going to survive”:

Zooming past his initial recollections of David Ellison’s Skydance purchasing CBS’s parent company Paramount, and the end of the Redstone family’s ownership, Pelley again showed his thick walls of bias by conceding he had never heard of Bari Weiss prior to her hiring:

Pelley quickly came to loathe Weiss. Why? Because she stated something Pelley found meritless, which was that increasing numbers of Americans distrust the media due to their bias:

Pelley disclosed one claim of interference from Weiss, which allegedly came in a piece he did on the Minneapolis unrest with immigration enforcement. He claimed Weiss tried to tell 60 Minutes that Renee Good tried to hit the officer with her car, which Pelley refused to include because he believes the facts showed otherwise:

Pelley wept again when declaring Weiss and CBS News President Tom Cibrowski showed “breathtaking, complete lack of empathy,” “callousness,” and “inhumanity” by letting go Tanya Simon because her “family is legendary at CBS News.”

He reiterated the tears are not “about me...but the people I leave behind treated in this way, that breaks my heart. And it’s going to take me a long time to get over it.”

A few minutes after he called on the Ellison family to fire Bari Weiss because “[s]he brings an ideology into CBS News where that is just anathema,” Pelley cried yet again because President Trump said liberals like Pelley “don’t care about” America.

This gave Pelley the chance to compare himself to soldiers and claim journalists like him are actually more important. Why? Because while both have “been in combat,” “[t]her is no democracy without journalism” (click “expand”):

GARCIA-NAVARRO: He went on a podcast and called you a stiff…He also said you were part of this gang of stupid crooked people that don’t care about your country.

PELLEY: Stupid. I can take that. Stiff, yeah, probably. Don’t care about the country? [CRYING] I’ve never worn the uniform, but I’ve been in combat for this country in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, been shot at. Spent nights in foxholes filling up with water in the desert. I’m not aware that the President of the United States has ever done any of those things for his country. Please correct me if I’m wrong. You become a journalist because you love the First Amendment. You become a journalist because you love the country. And while all the other descriptions that the President used about me might be applicable, not that one. [CRYING] There is no democracy without journalism. It can’t be done. And that is why I am a journalist.

Pelley closed with what he hopes Paramount Skydance executives do in the future to end this Weiss tenure in which “there is a thumb on the scale for” Donald Trump’s GOP and “there’s a subtle political bias that I’ve never seen” before at the network.

CNN Can't Find a Single Maine Democrat Who Won't Vote for Platner #Political

CNN's biased man-in-the-street interviews strike again.

Last month, the network cherry-picked two Texas Republicans who said they wouldn't vote for Ken Paxton in the general election, including one who said he'd "absolutely" vote for James Talarico. It was then fair to ask how many actual Paxton supporters they interviewed before settling on just those two.

It was more of the same on Saturday's CNN This Morning: Weekend. Reporter Danny Freeman hit the streets in Maine ahead of Tuesday's primary. There are over 386,000 registered Democrats in Maine. But Freeman couldn't find — or CNN chose not to air — a single one who said he would refuse to vote for scandal-plagued candidate Graham Platner.

The closest he came was finding a supposed Janet Mills supporter who lamented Democrats would lose in November — but she did not say anything about whether she would abandon her party's nominee!

One woman named Bonnie Depp said she'll probably vote for him because "I don't think a lot of this crap is anybody else's business."

The most telling example was a woman who flatly accused Platner of lying when he said he didn't realize that the tattoo he'd been sporting for 18 years was a Nazi SS-inspired Totenkopf: "He's an intelligent man, of course, he knew about it." But that didn't stop her from declaring: "I'm gonna vote for him, yeah."

Then there was "Zoo Cain," who said he wasn't interested in Platner's "foibles," and supports him because he "loves" what he says on the issues. Zoo lamented that "everybody is piling on" Platner. Yeah, how unfair to raise a candidate's personal history!

Finally, there was the Democrat voter for whom ignorance was bliss: "Don't know if it's misinformation or disinformation, right? Like, I don't know. Do any of us really know what's gonna be, or what kind of character he has? Don't know. Unproven."

Actually, Platner has admitted much of his misconduct. But that was way back five years or so ago! He's a changed man!

When the candidate is a Republican with troubling issues, CNN has no trouble finding party members ready to abandon ship. But for Democrat Platner, whose Totenkopf tattoo he covered up after first claiming ignorance, plus allegations of toxic and threatening behavior toward women, suddenly every voter interviewed is either enthusiastically on board or holding their nose but voting anyway because Senate control matters more.

Party loyalty über alles. Or to borrow our Jorge Bonilla's brilliant take: "Maine Kampf."

VICTOR BLACKWELL: Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, let's talk about him. He may be a favorite to win Tuesday's primary in Maine, but he is also quickly losing voters' enthusiasm. Platner is a Marine vet, an oyster farmer, and the front runner to take on Susan Collins in the November election, but a barrage of scandals from a covered-up Nazi-linked tattoo to toxic relationship allegations has voters ready to cast their ballots while holding their noses. CNN's Danny Freeman talked to voters in Maine about how they feel about voting for Platner.

BONNIE DEPP: Either get it all out there or shut up. One of the two.

DANNY FREEMAN: For many Maine Democratic voters we spoke with, they said they're frustrated with Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, who they feel could give them the best shot at defeating long-time Republican Senator Susan Collins, and pave the way for Democrats to take control of the Senate. Are you considering holding your breath and voting for him?

DEPP: I got until Tuesday to decide, but I'm pretty sure I'll vote for him. I don't think a lot of this crap is anybody else's business.

FREEMAN: For some Democrats, they're willing to look past the interpersonal stories.

"ZOO CAIN": I'm not really interested in the guy's foibles. You know, I'm interested in his vision and what he has to say, and I love what he has to say. So yeah, it's been definitely difficult because everybody is piling on this guy.

FREEMAN: But others didn't buy Platner's tattoo explanation.

SANDRA BRADEN: He's an intelligent man, of course he knew about it. I don't blame him for denying it, but —

FREEMAN: But that's still not enough not to vote for him, you're still gonna vote for him, likely.

BRADEN: — I'm gonna vote for him, yeah, but I don't like it. I'm not in favor of all that [bleeped.]

FREEMAN: Still, for some, the drip, drip, drip has left voters confused.

WOODY HAYWOOD: I don't know if it's misinformation or disinformation, right? Like, I don't know. Do any of us really know what's gonna be, or what kind of character he has? Don't know. Unproven. So is it the devil that we have, the devil we know or the devil that we don't know yet?

FREEMAN: According to a pair of recent polls conducted before the latest allegations, a head-to-head matchup between Platner and Senator Collins appears competitive. One with no clear leader and the other showing Platner with an advantage. While Platner is the clear favorite to win the Democratic nomination on Tuesday, another high-profile candidate's name is still on the ballot. Governor Janet Mills suspended her campaign back in April, but a source now tells CNN she's been getting encouragement to reenter the primary. Beth Dindas, a Mills supporter from the start, thinks it's likely too late.

BETH DINDAS: I think that ultimately, unfortunately, we're going to lose this race again, and we're going to have six more years of Susan Collins, who has let down the people of Maine time after time.

ABC and NBC Frame Bolton Classified Docs Guilty Plea as ‘Retribution’ #Political

On Thursday night, both ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News framed the news of former National Security Advisor John Bolton's guilty plea on charges related to mishandling classified documents as an example of successful legal retribution against President Trump’s perceived enemies. NBC even failed to mention how the investigation into Bolton began under the Biden Administration's control of the Department of Justice.

ABC anchor David Muir called Bolton one of Trump’s “harshest critics” before he turned it over to chief justice correspondent Pierre Thomas, who claimed “retribution”:

He was a prime target of President Trump's retribution campaign. And tonight, sources tell ABC News Trump's former National Security Adviser, John Bolton, is planning to plead guilty to mishandling classified information.

He then gave more details on Bolton’s indictment after he played a clip of Trump calling Bolton a “sleazebag”:

Bolton was indicted on 18 counts in October of 2025, accused of sharing classified information with members of his family in the course of writing a book. His home, raided by the FBI.

Tonight, sources tell us Bolton will plead guilty to one count of illegal retention of national security information and will acknowledge he stored sensitive information in his personal diaries. He's agreed to pay a fine of $2.25 million and could face up to five years in prison.

Thomas returned to note Bolton “has been an unsparing critic of the President,” and played a soundbite from 2020 where Bolton said Trump was “unfit for office.”

At the end of the report, Thomas finally mentioned that the case against Bolton began during the Biden DOJ by career prosecutors, not the conservative retribution type:

GARRETT HAAKE: Tonight, a major reversal for a former top Trump official charged with mishandling classified information. Leon Panetta Calls Iran War 'Trump's Vietnam' While CNN's Keiler Calls It A 'Quagmire' #Political

No matter how one may feel about President Trump and the war with Iran, an objective observer should easily be able to distinguish between the good and evil involved in the conflict. Additionally someone, who, by their current or former position, should be aware of our recent history, should recognize the differences between this relatively short-lived conflict and previous longer wars that the U.S. has been involved in. But Thursday, on CNN's News Central, host Brianna Keiler and her guest tossed objectivity and awareness right out the window.

Keiler began the segment by pointing out that the terrorist group Hezbollah, has rejected the cease fire agreed to by Israel and Lebanon, and that while President Trump says a deal with Iran could come as early as this weekend, Iran's Foreign Minister says no formal negotiations are currently underway. She then welcomed in former Defense Secretary and Former CIA Director during the Obama administration, Leon Panetta, who quickly equated the theocratic Islamic Republic of Iran's regime to Trump and his administration:

I think the bottom line, Brianna, is you don't know who to trust right now with regards to these negotiations. There's a hard line regime on the other side. I don't think you can trust what a hard line regime says. But at the same time, I'm not sure that the President is very credible either. He's been saying for a long time that within a few days, we were going to have an agreement. Now he's saying it's going to happen on the weekend.... We don't we don't know who we're negotiating with in Iran. We're not quite sure who's doing the negotiating for the United States....These discussions are stuck. Cease fires are not holding. I do not see this going very well at all.

Keiler then attempted to get Panetta to weigh in on differences between the U.S. and Israel, and how that may be effecting prospects for an agreement with Iran, but after glossing over that issue, Panetta went right back after Trump and invoked the Vietnam War:

PANETTA: I think what you're seeing is that, this war is very much turning into Trump's Vietnam. In Vietnam, we negotiated, but in the end, the North Vietnamese basically, took total control. We were lucky to get our forces out. I think we're heading in the same direction with this war.

KEILER: You are describing a grave mistake that ends in a quagmire then, is that right?

A three month war is hardly in the same category as the 20-year wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan, which are commonly referred to by the term quagmire. Panetta seemed to be on board, but quickly strayed away from the Vietnam analogy, and back to the nuts and bolts of the present conflict:

PANETTA: Exactly, exactly. In the end, as long as we have a hard line regime in Iran, that cannot be trusted, whatever you work out, for example, on the Strait of Hormuz, is going to be temporary at best because Iran remains in control of the Straits of Hormuz. And if you're trying to work out some kind of nuclear agreement based on the word of the hard line regime, they cannot be trusted.... I don't see any progress being made on trying to ultimately end this war, and that's what's of concern.

But Keiler seemed obsessed on furthering the Vietnam analogy, and pressed Panetta to, "point to the specific time or series of events that has you thinking this is turning in to, as you put it, Trump's Vietnam":

PANETTA: In Vietnam, we never got a straight story from the administration as to what was happening in Vietnam, and I'm not sure we're getting a straight story right now from this administration as to what's happening in negotiations with Iran. Secondly, there was a series of negotiations. We were able to kind of resolve some issues. We were able to get our forces out. But in the end, North Vietnam won that war. And what I sense here is that no matter what we try to negotiate with a hard line regime in Iran, they're going to be in control of the Strait of Hormuz. And they are going to do everything they can to try to continue enrichment so that ultimately, they can develop a nuclear weapon....Because in the end, it is a hard line regime that controls Iran, and we haven't changed that.

Trump's Vietnam, a quagmire, don't know who to trust. Left wing media bias in full force. After all, this is CNN.

Sunny Hostin Is ‘Embarrassed’ By America, Calls it a ‘Failed Experiment’ #Political

With America’s 250^th birthday coming up next month, ABC News co-host Sunny Hostin went on an anti-American rant during Friday’s episode of The View. Hostin, who once said she felt more comfortable in Ghana than America, proclaimed she was “embarrassed” by many things about the country that gave her the privilege to be a multimillionaire TV co-host. She even asserted that America was a “failed experiment” in self-governance.

While reacting to the UFC stage being built on the White House lawn, Hostin raged at America and ranted about how “embarrassed” the country made her. She was especially embarrassed by what other countries thought of America:

And at this point, I am embarrassed at our government. I'm embarrassed at our lack of healthcare. I'm embarrassed on the assault on the press. I'm embarrassed of our Congress. I'm embarrassed by the criminal felon president that is in the Oval Office that has a UFC cage on the White House lawn.

I'm embarrassed about all those things. And I'm also embarrassed at how America is now seen across the globe. I don't think that many Americans understand that we are part of a wonderful global community. And when you look at our allies, our allies are now giving us a one-star rating as a country.

She went on to declare that America “is, at this point, a failed experiment, quite frankly.”

Faux conservative co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pushed back and asked if America was “beyond redemption.” Hostin walked it back slightly but said former President Bill Clinton sapped her hope for a swift recovery:

FARAH GRIFFIN: You think it's beyond redemption at this point?

HOSTIN: I think at this point it is failing. It is a failed --

FARAH GRIFFIN: You don't think elections could bring it back, a change could bring it close --

HOSTIN: I spoke to President Clinton when he was here, off camera, and he believes that it's going to take this country decades to recover from what has been done.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg was not going to stand for such doom and gloom on the show. “I don't. I don't think it's going to take us decades,” she directly addressed Hostin’s comment.

Fake Republican co-host Ana Navarro had mixed feelings about America. “But I think you can separate feeling proud of America, feeling proud of being an American, feeling proud of the exceptionalism and resilience of this country, and feeling really ashamed and embarrassed and horrified by the American government right now,” she said.

Navarro went on to falsely claim the Trump administration ordered, “U.S. citizens killed for exercising their right to protest; like they killed Alex Pretti and Renee good in the streets of Minneapolis.”

And at this point, I am embarrassed at our government. I'm embarrassed at our lack of healthcare. I'm embarrassed on the assault on the press. I'm embarrassed of our Congress. I'm embarrassed by the criminal felon president that is in the Oval Office that has a UFC cage on the White House lawn.

SARA HAINES: It's really American, Sunny.

HOSTIN: I'm embarrassed about all those things. And I'm also embarrassed at how America is now seen across the globe. I don't think that many Americans understand that we are part of a wonderful global community. And when you look at our allies, our allies are now giving us a one-star rating as a country.

While I am conflicted about this country because I feel that it is at this point a failed experiment, quite frankly. I am also discouraged by how this country is viewed by the rest of the world.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: You think it's beyond redemption at this point?

HOSTIN: I think at this point it is failing. It is a failed --

FARAH GRIFFIN: You don't think elections could bring it back, a change could bring it close --

HOSTIN: I spoke to President Clinton when he was here, off camera, and he believes that it's going to take this country decades to recover from what has been done.

GOLDBERG: I love all the places I've lived but this is the only country that I know that allows us to do what we do and for that, I'm forever grateful.

For 250 years, if we've gotten to here, forget the last two years. Figure how far we got. Figure all the things, all the stuff women were able to do, all the things that we were able to take care of ourselves, finding the ways to make our lives better. That's why glass ceilings were broken. That's why people fought and got run over and hit by water cannons. Was for the right to be an American, to be considered an American.

Which is why I get so angry when I listen to people talk about who we're not. We are all Americans. We don't have to believe everything each other believes, but we are all Americans.

MAINE KAMPF: Chris Hayes Triages Graham Platner After New Bombshells #Political

As predictable as the Sun rising in the East, new bombshells dropped against the embattled Maine Democrat Senate candidate, Herr Oystergruppenfuhrer Graham Platner. The New York Times published an article enumerating some deeply concerning behaviors by Platner as told by his ex-girlfriends. An emergency interview with MS Now’s Chris Hayes ensued. Here are some of the most telling moments from that interview.

For the most part, the interview played like a 24-minute extended remix of The New York Times’s Lulu García-Navarro asking Platner whether there was anything else he wanted to get ahead of, and Platner replying in the negative. Hayes tried to strike a delicate balance between giving Platner the customary MS NOW tongue bath, and trying to assess whether any additional damage was incoming.

Hayes begins the interview by going directly to the Lyndsey Fifield portion of the Times article, which is the most damaging. Platner denies the allegations upon direct questioning from Hayes (Click “expand” to view transcripts)

CHRIS HAYES: I just want to say at the start that like, you know, we've had you on before and I think you and I are both people that in other contexts talk about income inequality and health care and all those issues, which are extremely important. And we devote a lot of time to on this program. We are- this is not, you know, the thing that we spend a lot of time chasing.

But, you know, there's some serious stuff there I want to go through with you. And I think voters have a right to know about it. And I want to start with what Ms. Fifield says about being “rough”, is the term the Times wrote. And I'm going to just read you the account so you have it. This is from the Times.

“Mr. Platner could be rough with her, Ms. Fifield said, particularly when they were drinking, leaving her shaken and sometimes afraid. In the interviews, she grappled with how to process her experiences. She was quick to note ‘he never hit me. He never punched me.’ She said he regularly grabbed her by the shoulders, sometimes hard enough to leave marks. On one occasion yanked her out of a cab by her wrist after an argument when she wanted to stay in the car. During one argument, she recalled, he twisted her arm behind her back, shoved her into a bedroom and held the door closed from the other side so she couldn't get out, telling her to remain there until she was calm. Eventually, Ms. Fifield said, she fell asleep and left the next morning. ‘It hurt’, she said. But she added, ‘it didn't cause any injury. It didn't break my arm.’ Did that happen?

GRAHAM PLATNER: No. It did not. There are some allegations in this piece that I just want to be kind of unequivocal about are simply not true. Anything alleging physicality, anything alleging that I knew what my tattoo was. These are the statements of someone who's politically motivated. In this piece, there's a lot about my struggling, not being a good boyfriend, certainly self-medicating with alcohol. And I've been very upfront since the beginning of this campaign that that was a pretty dark period of my life after I came back from my combat service. And that's what that combat ser-, that's what that kind of life looks like. And, and so there are things in this that I absolutely will take responsibility for and have been speaking about openly for months now. But those serious allegations are just not true.

HAYES: You did not grab her by the wrist. You did not put your hands on her shoulders. You did not push her into a room that you closed the door on.

PLATNER: No.

HAYES: She’s- she’s lying about that, is what you’re saying.

PLATNER: Yes. That is not true.

This exchange is important because it reveals the pattern that defined the rest of the interview. Hayes lays out some damning fact or accusation, Platner goes into a pre-set statement, Hayes offers little if any pushback and moves on. Such is the case with the disturbing allegations made by Fifield, who appears to be getting not much “believe all victims” benefit of the doubt. Platner brushes off the accusations as being based on partisan motivation and Hayes lets it go.

HAYES: You- you mentioned the tattoos, so I want to talk about that because I think this was troubling to a lot of people. And I think, again, your account of it assuaged some of that- that fear clearly in Maine voters, as reflected, again, by reporting and polling. She says, same person, that you referred to the tattoo as “my Totenkampf(SIC),” which is the German word for this particular Nazi symbol. There is other reporting in Jewish Insider in October, in which an anonymous acquaintance says, you used that same phrase. Did you know what this tattoo was about before last October when you said you first became aware of it?

PLATNER: No, I did not. And I also think it's important to note that it's very likely, and I think that that she is that same source. She's the person who's been telling people this from the beginning. And it's a- so I feel like, you know, we're kind of rehashing the thing we've been through. I had that tattoo for 17 years. It's a skull and crossbones. I got it with other Marines who I served with in Iraq, in Croatia. And in the time that I had it, I got a security clearance with the State Department. I re-enlisted in the United States Army where I was screened for gang and hate tattoos, and I took my shirt off in front of my family, many of whom are Jewish. We even released as a campaign a video which you're putting up on the screen right now of me dancing at my brother's wedding to his wife, who is Jewish, and her fully extended Jewish family. And I would not have taken my shirt off in that context if I had known. And so any statement saying that I did know is- is, again, totally false.

HAYES: I do want to follow up on one place on this, and I don't want to get too forensic, but, you know, the Times basically reported that they saw texts of hers, including a text in August, I believe August 3rd of last year. This would be before October of last year, in which she basically said that you had a, quote, “Nazi tattoo”, and she joked about how she was going to go volunteer for Collins. Now, again, this is a text that got sent so we can place the time. Right? This is in August. How does she know it's a Nazi tattoo in August of last year? And you don't know it's Nazi tattoo in August of last year?

PLATNER: Well, she certainly didn't send that text to me. So whoever she sent it to and was talking to, that's- I can't say why, but I will say that I certainly didn't know. And and the text messages she sent to friends who may have recognized it’s- they didn’t tell me that. So.

Here again, Platner’s strategy is to deflect and blame Fifield. And Hayes’s strategy appears to be to enable that while appearing to ask hard questions. This is not so much an interview as it is an emergency triage effort where there are multiple wounds requiring attention.

Hayes shifts to the sexting scandal, setting up Platner for a lengthy communications set piece that is light on details. Hayes tries to pin Platner down on a specific time frame as to when he stopped the sexts. Platner’s response: “I stopped when it was happening.”

We move on to the next eye-popping moment, wherein Hayes asks Platner if there are any texts or compromising pictures of Platner that could get dropped late in the race. Platner’s response- not a no, but “I’m not worried about it,” leading to another lengthy set piece about redemption and “transformational politics."

HAYES: Are there texts of yours, pictures of yours floating around out there, which again, maybe from a time capsule. But people I think are understandably a little nervous. Maybe you'll be the nominee, probably be the nominee for the Maine Senate on Tuesday, and then it's October 10th. And here's a text or picture of Graham Platner that is not the kind of thing that you want to see. Like, are you worried about that? Are there texts like that?

PLATNER: I'm not worried about it. I mean, one, I went as I've talked to him, I went through my life through a number of years struggling and not exactly acting with the best behavior. I've been very, very open about that. And if people would like to continue to drag things up from that time in my life, I'm sure that we are going to see at some point somebody attempt to do exactly that.

Just know that these are things that happened before I became a public figure, before I got into politics, and it's a part of my life that I'm very happy to talk about and talk about the struggles within. And so I do think that as we move forward, you know, what we've built up here is really something quite spectacular. It's very new. And I think one of the reasons why it's worked so well is because I have been very open with the people of Maine. I go all over the state, I've held over 80 town halls, and I ask or I answer questions from Mainers, regardless of what the question is. I've made myself very accessible to people, and I want them to know about my struggles because I firmly believe that if you believe in a transformational politics, you've got to believe in the ability for people to transform. And my journey is one of transformation, and I'm very happy to talk about that earlier part in my life. And I have no doubt that people will attempt to continue to revisit Reddit posts, continue to try to revisit parts of my past. But I think what's really important to note here is that these are things that I talk about in my past, things that I'm not proud of, but it is a past that I had to go through to get where I am today, and I’m very proud of who I am today. I’m very proud of the movement that we’ve built up here in Maine.

In a rare follow-up, Hayes practically begs Platner for assurance that the recipients of the inevitable next incoming tranche of texts or pictures were consenting adults. Platner provides a definitive “yes.”

HAYES: Just to be clear, just about revisiting, right? I mean, I think- channeling concerns, I think of Democratic voters and Democratic officials, and a lot of people, right? That it's not a question of revisiting, right? It's new revelations like vis a vis, you know, texts or pictures. And I just, I know you want to give some privacy in your marriage, but I really do feel like I need to get these answers from you, which is like the people you were texting with, whatever that was in whatever context- they were adult women. You knew that and it was consensual. Is that true?

PLATNER: Yes.

HAYES: And you have that- you confirmed that you knew their age.

PLATNER: Yes. Oh, God. I mean, yeah. Yes, of course.

What is this if not a modified limited hangout meant to blunt the impact of whatever else might drop? What was that if not an admission that more is to come?

At this point, Hayes gets Platner to react to statements from Senator Elissa Slotkin and Governor Janet Mills. Hayes then tried to get Platner to specify that there is nothing else inbound. Platner bemoans a “dirty campaign,” and promises nothing new. After some back and forth on trustworthiness, Hayes closes out by asking Platner whether the DCSS or any other entity has tried to get him to drop out, ti which Platner replies in the negative.

HAYES: Final question for you. Have you had any communication with the folks at the DSCC, or Democratic operatives who have talked about dropping out, who have talked about other options? Have you received any communication today about that?

PLATNER: No, I have not. And and I- I expect that we will not, primarily because what we've built up here, it's robust. It's very strong. I mean, even just the past couple days, the outpouring of support that Amy and I have seen has been deeply humbling. We have people dropping off food at our house. We have neighbors coming across with eggs. Everybody is incredibly concerned about our well-being because they feel like we're being attacked in some way, and they want to help protect us. And it is that kind of feeling of community, that feeling of standing up for each other that I really think embodies this whole campaign. And that's why we're going to beat Susan Collins in November.

HAYES: All right. Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, who will be on the ballot on Tuesday, in Maine. We will be covering that here. I really- I do appreciate you taking all that time today to do that interview.

PLATNER: No, of course. Thanks, Chris.

The interview then gives way to a panel discussion with “Air” Claire McCaskill and The Bulwark’s Tim Miller, who were not assuaged by Platner’s responses. Watch as Hayes goes into a “but Trump” defense of Platner, weirdly tying the allegations to the E. Jean Carroll case- and Tim Miller’s discomfort at Planer’s replies.

HAYES: You know, that- that point you just made, Claire. Tim, you know, we live in the Donald Trump era, right? So everything is sort of, in some ways been transformed. I mean, I was saying to someone the other day that if the article that came out today said a woman is accusing Graham Platner of raping her in a dressing room, like that would be it. It would be over. Right? Like the- the thing that E. Jean Carroll said about Donald Trump, that, you know, it was then essentially sustained by civil juries under preponderance of evidence standard, like that would be it in this context. And that's also not to say, like, that, like, a whatabout response? Because the other thing I tell myself is- the moral ruin of the Republican party has been its inability to do any line drawing. And so that- that also can't be the kind of model for how Democrats deal with whatever era we live in now, with whatever rules there are.

TIM MILLER: Yeah, we don't want to copy them. I mean, I left the Republican party for a reason. It's nice to have some standards. But I don't think obviously that Graham Platner is Donald Trump, for a million reasons….

HAYES: To be very clear.

MILLER: …very clearly the one that Claire McCaskill laid out. You know, the fact that he's apologized for what he did and he's trying to become a better man. I don't think I've ever heard Donald Trump say what Graham Platner just said in that interview, that he's trying to become a better man every day. I don't think he is. I think he's doing the opposite, you know? So, look, I think that in addition to what Claire said, I would just add a couple things. One is he's obviously resonated in Maine with people of Maine, and it's been his political message that's resonating. And he's a very talented politician. And if we're going to be part of a big pro-democracy movement from former Republicans to quasi-socialists, with Claire McCaskill in the middle, like, you got to respect democracy. And that's kind of what democracy is. You know, a candidate putting themselves before the voters, offering a platform and looking for voters that- that decided that's the platform that they'd like to see. I think Graham Platner has done that successfully. Like the other part of that, though, is that there's like a little bit of unknown- a known unknown, to borrow from Don Rumsfeld here, that I think is the concerning part of this, right, which is there is a prospective element to this. Right?

HAYES: Right.

MILLER: He's resonated, his message has resonated to date. We don't exactly know what's to come. And I think that's the one thing that concerns me about this a little bit. It does feel risky. It's an extremely important state. The Democrats absolutely have to take the Senate, which means they have to take four states. Maine is- should be the easiest one. And so for that to be the one causing the most problems right now is a little concerning. I mean, it should be the easiest in the sense that it's the one that Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton all won. So ostensibly, a Democrat should only have to get their voters to win.

HAYES: Right.

MILLER: So there, that is the one thing that sticks with me about this. And part of it is, you know, Graham Platner and whether that, you know, whether what he's saying is accurate and, you know, you have to be respectful of women that are speaking out, but there's only the one woman that's a Republican operative that's that's suggesting anything untoward. The thing that worries me is his answers to your questions on kind of like, when did this stop and what else might come out? It still left me a little uncertain. I don't feel certain that this story is the last one, and given the importance and the stakes of the race, you know- I think that’s one thing for Maine voters to consider, along with the message that’s resonating.

In sum: But Trump, blame Lyndsey. That’s the ultimate takeaway from this triage interview, or modified limited hangout- whatever your perspective might be.

What we saw wasn’t an exchange in pursuit of the truth and of justice for potential victims of what appears to be some manner of dating violence. If there was any concern shown for victims, it wasn’t for any of the women who endured Platner’s various predations. Instead, concern was reserved for the truest and purest victim of Platner’s indiscretions: the Democrats’ chances at retaking the Senate.

St. Paul Attorney Refuses to Charge Anarchists That Disrupted Church Service #Political

St. Paul City Attorney Irene Kao is refusing to charge the anti-law-enforcement mob that invaded and disrupted service at Cities Church in Minnesota on January 18, drawing harsh criticism – and a warning of the consequences of her decision for people of all faiths – from the church’s pastor.

Thirty-nine people, including ex-CNN anchor Don Lemon, were arrested for disrupting service at Cities Church in January because they thought one of the church’s pastors was working with the local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office’s efforts to take illegal aliens into custody.

But, on Tuesday, City Attorney Kao announced that the agitators would not be prosecuted because the “evidence is insufficient” – even though the incident was caught on camera.

Don Lemon livestreamed both the church invasion and his “reconnaissance” report to the mob beforehand, The New York Post reports:

“‘They’re planning an operation we’re going to follow them on. I can’t tell you exactly what they’re doing, but it’s called Operation Pull-Up,’ he [Lemon] said in the stream.

“‘So that’s what we’re doing here, and after we do this operation, you’ll see it live, these operations are surprise operations. Again, I can’t tell you where they’re going,’ he said, indicating he was very much a part of the demonstration despite his protestations he was only covering it as a reporter.”

“The right to peacefully protest is protected, as is the right to exercise one’s religious beliefs,” Kao wrote in her statement, attempting to rationalize her decision not to prosecute the agitators.

Kao also suggested that didn’t prosecute those who disrupted the church service because there was no violence, property damage or threats:

“However, acts of violence, property destruction, or threats to public safety – none of which occurred here – remain serious concerns and will be prosecuted when supported by admissible evidence.”

“Just because the agitators didn’t break any windows doesn’t mean they didn’t break the law,” True North Legal General Counsel Renee Carlson, representing the church and pastor, responded in a statement:

“The City Attorney's assurance that the rights of religious people in St. Paul are protected means nothing when the governing authorities charged with enforcing those protections refuse to uphold the law.”

“The St. Paul City Attorney’s decision treats the church like it’s a public sidewalk – as if the sanctuary were an open forum that anyone may seize mid-service, rather than private property where a congregation has the right to worship undisturbed,” Director of Litigation Doug Wardlow added, warning that Kao is giving the green light to politically-favored lawbreaking:

“[T]he City Attorney’s office sends an unmistakable signal: the law will bend for those whose cause aligns with the politics of those in power.”

Minnesota officials and liberal politicians have been vehemently opposing enforcement of federal immigration laws in their state.

All religious institutions are threatened by Kao’s legal rationale, Pastor Parnell warned in a statement:

“According to the St. Paul City Attorney’s logic, it is perfectly fine for agitators to invade a mosque, a cathedral, or a temple, intimidate the families and children inside, and shut down their religious gathering. Just call it a ‘protest.’”

While the agitators will not be prosecuted on the state level, they still face federal civil rights charges brought by the U.S. Justice Department for "Conspiracy Against Right of Religious Freedom at Place of Worship," and "Injure, Intimidate, and Interfere with Exercise of Right of Religious Freedom at Place of Worship."

Politico Frames California Election Results as 'Becerra and Bass Surge' #Political

"Spencer Pratt surges to runoff in LA mayor’s race after angry voters send message to Karen Bass."

Does that sound like a reasonable headline description as to what happened on Tuesday in the mayoral election in Los Angeles? After all the incumbent mayor Bass was rejected (as of this writing) by almost two thirds of the voters. It is a headline that appeared on the 930 WFMD Radio website and is somewhat reflected in a bizarre way at Politico which somehow managed to give the election results a laughably different interpretation with "Becerra and Bass surge in California as anti-establishment fever breaks."

Yes, the Wednesday Politico spinmeister team of Liam Dillon, Alex Nieves, and Daniel Miller somehow groks that a nearly two-thirds vote against the incumbent translates into a "surge" for the establishment. In addition, contrary to Politico attempting to wishcast anti-dem establishment candidate Spencer Pratt away by portraying him as coming in third behind two diehard Democrats during the last week of May, he appears to be solidly in place for the November runoff election against Bass as of this writing (unless mysterious boxes appear loaded with Nithya Raman ballots).

Even more absurd is the portrayal of Xaviera Becerra as experiencing a "surge" since he came in second in the election for governor behind Steve Hilton who at this point leads Mr. Surge by three points. The strong antipathy of Politico towards Hilton is illustrated by the fact that in the entire article he is mentioned just once. Let the drums roll for the lone brief mention by Politico of the actual winner of the gubernatorial open primary: "Republican Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host endorsed by President Donald Trump, was just ahead of Becerra early Wednesday morning."

Keep in mind this Pravda-like portrayal of Becerra as somehow surging comes on the heels of Politico taking a strong dose of hopium last Friday with this headline: "Second poll shows Becerra’s ahead in California governor’s race."

The world of Politico appears to be so desperate to hype failed establishment Democrat candidates that they can laughably twist a candidate portrayed as being ahead in the governor's race as having surged a few days later despite unexpectedly falling behind (as of this writing) the Republican candidate by three points.

Ironically, Politico itself seems to have unintentionally placed something of a reality check on its wishcast headline since just below it on the front page the surging incumbent also appears this headline: "Karen Bass heads to runoff in Los Angeles."

BOO-HOO! NPR Axes Its Woke Climate Desk #Political

NPR is following The Washington Post and CBS News’s example by taking a blowtorch to its climate team. It must be tough not being able to rely on that steady stream of tax dollars anymore, eh?

NPR Chief Climate Editor Neela Banerjee plastered a somber eulogy for her eco-woke department in a LinkedIn post published May 27. “Today, I was laid off by NPR. The climate desk no longer exists separately but has been folded into the National Desk.”

She continued, making it seem like she was ready to ride off into the sunset, “I have rarely been as inspired or happy as I was working with the nine other journalists on NPR's Climate Desk, and I feel so very lucky to have helped you--and learned from you.”

Worth noting that this is the same “Climate Desk” under Banerjee’s leadership that pushed propaganda a few days before Banerjee’s firing characterizing beavers as “little climate warriors” in Britain’s fight against the left’s eternal specter of climate change. And how about this April 3 gem, “NPR wants your big question about reducing your climate impact and saving money.”

Talk about real bang-up journalisming there (not).

It’s pretty safe to say that the world will keep turning without NPR’s supposed, hard-hitting climate coverage. Reading Banerjee’s self-touted bona fides in retrospect is enough to jumpstart a few giggles:

I've been at NPR for six years, and for the last three, I worked as head of its (relatively new) climate desk. We were 10 people who did ambitious, prize-winning enterprise and broke news. We launched an annual network-wide Climate Solutions Week that set the standard for cooperation with member stations and that gave audiences a sense of agency and inspiration amid the planetary gloom. We built a reporting collaborative of more than 50 member stations which covered climate at the local level and became tightly knit in the process. We broke down silos within NPR and helped our colleagues at shows, podcasts and desks understand climate change in their contexts.

“Sense of agency and inspiration amid the planetary gloom?” What kind of poorly-crafted word salad is this!

NPR writ large has even gone as far as simping for eco-terrorism, such as this polluted item from NPR critic-at-large John Powers, “'How to Blow Up a Pipeline' review: An action-packed eco-heist movie." In that piece, Powers called the manifesto that inspired the film by extremist Andreas Malm “the most compelling argument I've read for eco-sabotage.”

At the end of the day, a company’s bottom-line is what drives business. And NPR is apparently being forced to learn like the rest of the liberal media ecosphere that consistently barfing up climate scare porn doesn’t exactly pay dividends.

BREAKING: Scott Pelley FIRED From CBS News After ‘60 Minutes’ Crashout #Political

Yesterday, Scott Pelley lectured his new 60 Minutes boss on how the network was “MURDERING” the Elitist Media’s most hallowed news magazine. In the process, he ended up committing career seppuku and has just been shown the door by CBS News.

Puck’s Dylan Byers reports that Pelley was called into the office to meet with top brass after yesterday’s pompous flameout:

Bari Weiss, Nick Bilton, Tom Cibrowski, and CBS HR invited Scott Pelley to a meeting at 5pm ET tonight to discuss a path forward after his vocal protest earlier this week in the 60 Minutes all-hands.

The two sides did not find common ground. Bari & Co. were left with sense that Scott was not open minded about reaching detente; meanwhile, Scott maintained strong frustrations with leadership.

Scott left meeting and was told they'd have an update on his employment in a matter of minutes... instead, Bari and her team deliberated for several hours.

After those several hours, Pelley was fired for cause. Bilton’s letter to Pelley follows:

Dear Mr. Pelley:

I meant what I said in my letter last week to the 60 Minutes team: joining 60 Minutes is the honor of my career and I am grateful to be working alongside the people who have contributed to the most important television journalism brand this country has ever produced. While I’m new to 60 Minutes, I’ve devoted my career to investigative journalism and storytelling. I started this job excited to collaborate and to benefit from the wisdom and experience of the 60 Minutes veterans, with you among them. For that reason, one of the first things I did in my new role was call you to talk and invite you to dinner. It is a profound disappointment that you rejected that overture and chose ambush instead. Yesterday, you hijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt. I welcome a diversity of viewpoints and respectful debate among the team, but this was nothing of the sort. Yesterday’s performative display of hostility—enacted in front of the staff instead of in a civil, private conversation—demonstrated that you have no interest in contributing to the future success of the show, or approaching my new tenure with a mind open to collaboration and progress. I am here to deliver first-in-class news programming, not to make headlines about newsroom drama. I am eager to work alongside those who share this goal.

Despite yesterday’s misconduct, I had hoped that in sitting down with you today we could find a path forward together. You made clear that you are not interested in such a path.

Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear. And I have heard you. I therefore write on behalf of CBS News, Inc. (“CBS”) to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated for cause effective immediately. Enclosed is your formal termination letter.

Bilton then sent the following memo to the whole of the news division:

I know how much Scott meant to many of you, and I don't say this lightly. I made repeated attempts to have direct conversations with him over the weekend, and this afternoon I tried to find common ground. That was not the path Scott chose.

What I regret most is that this situation interfered with the conversation I had hoped to have with you about Season 59 and the future of this show. I realize this is a great deal of change in a very short time, and I wouldn't pretend otherwise.

I won't relitigate the last week with you here. What I will commit to is this: My unyielding support for each of you, the journalism that you do and what we will do together going forward.

The media hall monitors will likely go into a Chernobyl-level meltdown and go on a multi-day rampage about how the Pelley firing is but the latest attack on free speech. The “for-cause” mid-contract firing certainly anticipates a lawsuit which will draw additional coverage and provide Pelley with a Resistance™ Supernova exit. Likely to Substack.

But make no mistake. After pulling that stunt and putting on that much of a show, Pelley’s firing was not a matter of “if” but “when”.

In an early statement to The New York Times, Pelley humbly compares himself to a combat veteran.

Mr. Pelley, in a telephone interview on Tuesday evening shortly after he was fired, said he had devoted decades of his life to “60 Minutes,” which he said he still cared about deeply.

“I have been in combat in Afghanistan,” Mr. Pelley said. “I have been in combat in Iraq. I have been in the war zone in Ukraine multiple times, risking my life and the happiness of my family because of my devotion to the broadcast.”

As predicted, the Media Hall Monitors have come out in force. Oliver Darcy's reporting certainly confirms our suspicion that Pelley tried to get himself fired:

What Pelley kept under wraps, Status has learned, was that he had prepared a resignation letter. But he never delivered it. Instead, Pelley—who did not respond to requests for comment—anticipated that after his astonishing remarks Monday, in which he accused Weiss of "murdering" the newsmagazine, that he would be terminated from the network. He ultimately proved correct.

There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.

The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58thseason, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.

“60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.

The waste is heartbreaking.

Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.

For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.

At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.

I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.

ABC Rips Spencer Pratt as ‘Blunt,’ ‘Conservative Firebrand’ With ‘Provocative Campaign’ #Political

Disney-owned ABC’s Good Morning America seethed Tuesday over Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt on California primary day, trashing him as a “conservative firebrand” who’s run a “provocative campaign” being such “a vocal critic” of Karen Bass for her handling of the wildfires and “draw[ing] criticism for campaign ads” and “blunt statements” about the homeless.

After fill-in co-host and liberal apple polisher Mary Bruce said “all eyes” are “on the insurgent, former reality show star Spencer Pratt,” Los Angeles-based correspondent Trevor Ault showed his political ignorance by claiming “you don’t often see national attention and millions of dollars spent on a mayoral primary, but that is what voters are weighing today in Los Angeles.”

His own network offered repeated stories about, for instance, New York City mayoral races.

Ault then pummeled Pratt:

And of course, a big portion of this attention is from the provocative campaign of reality star Spencer Pratt. This morning, California voters are headed to the polls with the spotlight on a highly competitive primary for Los Angeles mayor, including reality star-turned-conservative firebrand Spencer Pratt, making an unexpected push.

Noting the independent candidate “rose to fame on the early 2000s MTV show, The Hills, Ault said Pratt “has taken aim at incumbent mayor Karen Bass,” who’s “battled lower approval ratings, triggered largely by her response to last year’s devastating wildfires.”

Ault didn’t give much focus to the why of Pratt’s campaign, footnoting “[h]e’s been a vocal critic of the mayor since his Pacific Palisades mansion burnt down in the fires” before turning his ire to the first-time candidate:

[B]ut he’s drawn criticism for campaign ads implying he’s since been living in an airstream trailer, later clarifying he’s actually staying in a luxury hotel. He’s also stirred mixed reactions for his campaign’s frequent use of reposted AI-generated ads and his blunt statements about wanting to clear out the city’s homeless.

The labeling game carried over to the California gubernatorial ballot as he tagged former Biden HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra as merely a “Democrat,” far-left candidate Tom Steyer as just a “billionaire progressive,” and leading Republican candidate Steve Hilton as simply a “conservative commentator.”

The invective is even more maddening considering the fac that this was the first time Pratt’s mayoral bid was mentioned on Good Morning America or its PM counterpart, World News Tonight. Outside of multiple Pratt mentions on The View, the March 5 and May 18 editions of Nightline were the only ABC News shows to give him airtime.

Over on CBS Mornings (which has covered Pratt multiple times), co-host Gayle King leaned into the positive comments President Trump has leveled toward Pratt and extrapolated that to being an endorsement.

Chief correspondent Matt Gutman said it’s “one of the most fiercely fought races in the country” and “anyone’s game” between “incumbent Democratic mayor” Bass, “former reality TV star and Republican” Pratt, and “democratic socialist” Raman.

On Bass being AWOL during the January 2025 wildfires and a lackluster response, Gutman condensed it to “criticism” she’s looking to “overcome.”

“And one of her most ferocious critics has been Pratt, who told our Adam Yabaguchi, it’s what encouraged him to join the race,” Gutman said in talking about Pratt before tagging Raman as someone “leaning into fighting homelessness.”

As for the governor’s race, Gutman brought up “former Biden administration official” Becerra, “environmental advocate” Steyer, and “former Fox News host” Hilton.

“Now, affordability is a huge issue for Californians right now. The latest CBS news poll shows a whopping 70 percent of voters find the cost of living to be unmanageable, and whoever wins will manage a state with a roughly $4 trillion economy, and a lot of work ahead of them,” he concluded, saying nothing about the left’s irongrip on most or all of the state for the last 30 years.

NBC’s Today had Los Angeles-based correspondent Liz Kreutz on the case, correctly explaining Pratt has defined the policy debates of the race: “Spencer Pratt has certainly made a name for himself in this race that’s really been centered on three key issues: frustration over homelessness, the fire recovery, and a large decline in Hollywood production here.”

She described the race as “a contest fit for Hollywood...where reality star Spencer Pratt...with the help of viral AI campaign ads made by his supporters has gained late traction in his long-shot bid” to “to unseat incumbent Democratic mayor Karen Bass, who faced intense criticism for her handling of” the fires.

Here’s how she framed the gubernatorial race as well as primaries in Iowa and New Jersey (click “expand”):

Californians are also choosing the next leader of the nation’s most populous state. Nearly 60 candidates are running to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom. The crowded race becoming even more muddled after former Congressman Eric Swalwell dropped out following sexual assault allegations, which he denies. Democratic politician Xavier Bacerra, currently in the lead with billionaire investor and climate activist Tom Steyer, also a Democrat, and right-wing political commentator Steve Hilton tracking closely behind.

And there are other major races today in six primary states, from Iowa — where Democrats are battling it out, hoping to win a Senate seat in the traditionally Republican state this fall — to an unusual race in New Jersey where GOP Rep. Tom Kean has disappeared from the public eye for months, leaving Republicans worried they may eventually lose his key congressional seat. All setting the stage for midterm elections that could shift the balance of power in Washington. Now, as for that race in New Jersey, Congressman Kean has said he is addressing a personal medical issue and he will return once recovered, but he’s offered no other details. Meanwhile, here in California, there are several notable House races to watch, including in San Francisco, where voters are deciding who will take over Speaker Emeriti Nancy Pelosi’s seat after she retires after nearly 40 years in Congress[.]

Morning Joe Buries Platner Sexting Scandal, Lowers Maine Expectations #Political

On Monday, amid the new sexting scandal for Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, otherwise known for his Nazi tattoo and past Reddit comments, MS NOW’s Morning Joe spent little time on the topic. The only segment of the morning show regarding the scandal came three hours and 35 minutes into the show. The segment aired just under a month after the show’s softball interview with Platner.

To their credit, panelists Elise Jordan, co-host of The Weekend: Primetime, and Lauren Leader, CEO of All In Together, both went after Platner, as Jordan called out Lemire's description of the tattoo as merely “Nazi-style.”

With no Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, or Willie Geist on Monday, 9 AM host Jonathan Lemire took the reins for the entire show. He introduced the scandal with reporting from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal:

Lemire then recalled the past controversies of Platner, even with a mention of the Nazi tattoo that he whitewashed as just “Nazi-style”:

This controversy is the latest in a campaign that has seen Platner being forced to respond to things like old offensive posts on Reddit, to a Nazi-style tattoo. Democratic leaders seem split on the candidate.

He then turned to Jordan for her thoughts of Platner, as he said, “Platner’s campaign has showed a remarkable resiliency to this point,” but then mentioned the reality of a campaign versus current Republican Senator Susan Collins, and called the new Platner scandal “another real headache for the party.”

Jordan went hard after Platner and his tattoo, with a slight knock on Lemire's framing:

It's one thing to have foolish, youthful indiscretions, but I'm sorry you cannot get past - it is not a Nazi-style tattoo. It is the tattoo of concentration camp guards. It is the very worst tattoo you can get if you are getting anything Nazi. And that's a pretty high bar there. So this has been a slow-motion train wreck ever since that tattoo and knowledge of it hit the world, and it's only going to get worse.

Then, Leader, her fellow panelist, asked if Democrats want to support his candidacy since they claim to have “moral high ground,” as she lowered expectations for a Senate win in Maine over versus Collins, as, she said, it, “was a long shot to begin with.”

Adding: “And I will say, as a Democrat, I find it really problematic when we stand by people who do not, you know, who do not pass muster when it comes to some basic judgment and moral values, and we stand by them because they're on our side. How is that different than Republicans doing the same thing? I find it really problematic.”

In a day with no Scarborough or Brzezinski, the Platner scandal did not get premier coverage with watchers of the premier liberal morning show. Amid the growing list of scandals, a replay of the show’s love-fest with the candidate, with Scarborough even comparing himself to Platner, should raise questions.

Over the weekend, both The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times released reports that Platner had exchanged sexually explicit text messages with several women while married. Platner's actions were first brought to attention to the campaign last year by his wife, Amy Gertner, who worried what would happen if they were made public.

The Times writes that Genevieve Macdonald, a former state legislator who was the Platner campaign's political director before leaving in October, said that Gertner reached out just days before a big Labor Day rally with Senator Bernie Sanders and was concerned that her husband's behavior could become a political liability. The messages were confirmed by the campaign, and a representative for Platner said he has since stopped and that he and his wife are in counseling. Gertner posted a video statement on social media in which she defended her husband.

Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna of California, standing by Platner, writing on social media on Saturday that he looks forward to their scheduled campaign event. But others, like Senator Cory Booker, are worried of the impact on the party's chances to retake the Senate.

LEMIRE: So, Elise, Platner’s campaign has showed a remarkable resiliency to this point. Right? I mean, he dispatched a pretty popular sitting governor, Governor Mills, in the primary, and polls have him up on Susan Collins.

Now, we should note, polls in Maine, traditionally unreliable. And Susan Collins is nothing if not a survivor. At the very least, we can say this is another real headache for the party.

ELISE JORDAN: Graham Platner is clearly a very talented retail politician, but the problem is his judgment, which he clearly has been lacking in as an adult.

It's one thing to have foolish, youthful indiscretions, but I'm sorry you cannot get past - it is not a Nazi-style tattoo. It is the tattoo of concentration camp guards. It is the very worst tattoo you can get if you are getting anything Nazi. And that's a pretty high bar there. So this has been a slow-motion train wreck ever since that tattoo and knowledge of it hit the world, and it's only going to get worse.

These texts, there are multiple women. Are all those women going to keep their mouths shut from now until election day? What do you think, Lauren?

LAUREN LEADER: Well, right. And I mean, it’s a little - you know, I certainly appreciate his wife wanting to stand up for him. But I mean, come on, it's politics. What do you think is going to happen? Of course, everything is fair game.

And of course, people's character, their behavior, and their treatment of women matters. And is there a double standard in the parties? Um, 100 percent there is because of - I don't even have to begin to explain the double standards when it comes to the President of the United States.

But Democrats have been trying to walk to be to take the moral high ground and to run candidates that don't have these kinds of deep moral and personal problems.

And by the way, you know, it was a long shot to begin with, to think that Democrats are going to take out Susan Collins. She's been there since 1996. The polls are wrong every single cycle. She has extraordinary resilience. And by the way, she knows the district incredibly well. She has served the people of Maine. Like her or not, Democrats dream of taking her out. I didn't think it was especially realistic to begin with, regardless of who was running, and now you have this very problematic guy.

And I will say, as a Democrat, I find it really problematic when we stand by people who do not, you know, who do not pass muster when it comes to some basic judgment and moral values, and we stand by them because they're on our side. How is that different than Republicans doing the same thing? I find it really problematic.

The arrogant leftist die-hards at 60 Minutes are not careful about their facts. They’re too relentlessly pompous to respect facts. See the headline in The New York Times:

Scott Pelley Accuses CBS News Boss of ‘Murdering’ ‘60 Minutes’

In an interview with Status, Oliver Darcy’s website for shaming the press into being the most ardent leftist activists imaginable, former 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft used similar violent-death metaphors: “Since I retired, I often wondered what would happen to ‘60 Minutes,’” said Kroft, who concluded his run at the program in 2019 after 30 seasons. “But I never expected it would be executed by the president of the United States.”

The show hasn't been killed by CBS like that sitcom DMV or their medical drama Watson. They want to pretend the show is "executed" if it isn't 100 percent anti-Trump and anti-Republican all the time.

If anyone "murdered" the show's credibility, it was these two! Kroft conducted a plethora of softball interviews with Barack Obama, and Pelley pampered Failing Joe Biden twice while he was president.

Someone in the die-hard caucus recorded an internal staff meeting and released the audio to Status. Pelley was fighting with the new boss picked by Bari Weiss, Nick Bilton:

“Bari loves this institution,” Bilton told staffers at one point during the highly contentious meeting. “She loves 60 Minutes.”

“She’s murdering 60 Minutes,” Pelley countered. “She does not love this place. She was brought in to kill it—and she’s doing exactly that.”

Pelley, who’s been at CBS News since 1989, clearly hates the new team, and questions all of their qualifications. He lectured Bilton:

“She has no qualifications for her job; you have slender qualifications for this job. The changes that she’s made at the Evening News have been catastrophic, so why should we expect that any of this is going to be any better?”

Team Pelley really thinks all this audio makes them look righteous (not self-righteous). You're supposed to paint Pelley throwing thunderbolts like he's News Anchor Hercules.

Charles Forelle, a top Weiss deputy and managing editor of CBS News, interjected, telling Pelley that he was being “rude.”

“This is not actually productive,” Forelle said. “This is not an interview.”

“It’s working for me,” Pelley replied.

“Anybody came into our house—this is 60 Minutes,” Pelley added. “I guess you wandered in expecting to read a statement off?”

Anyone can understand the 60 Team being upset at their colleagues being fired. Anyone can understand a meeting with new managers could be "tense." But acting like the Resistance and taping the meeting and leaking the audio is really something.

Pelley, who was applauded multiple times during the meeting by other staffers present, then refocused the conversation on the firings.

“Here’s a question: Were you aware of how Black Friday was going to play out?” he asked. “I find it odd that you would take this job knowing that you would never be welcomed here.”

This makes the word "territorial" sound incredibly inadequate. Bilton wasn't bending:

“I have no problem taking a job in a place that I am not welcome, OK? I don’t believe that will be the case,” Bilton replied. “I am not intimidated by—I have been a journalist for 25 years, Scott. I have sat and talked with incredibly powerful people like you have,” Bilton continued. “None of it intimidates me, OK? So you are not going to intimidate me in front of this group of people.”

“Does it show good judgment to take this job under those circumstances?” Pelley asked.

Somehow the Left doesn't believe that the new owners of CBS get to own it. Pelley gets to own it. Get out of "our house"!

After much hype centered around her handling of questions about President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline, CBS Sunday Morning aired its interview with former First Lady Jill Biden. This was a bifurcated airing, with part running over the air and another online. Here are some if its interesting moments.

Here’s Jill Biden discussing her role as First Lady. A more inquisitive interviewer would’ve brought up the comparisons to Edith Wilson, given President Biden’s obvious decline. No such followup here.

JILL BIDEN: Well, I think, uh, toward the end, I think people, uh, pushed me to take more of a role to, um, get Joe to step down. But Rita, it was always Joe's decision. I mean, he had to make those decisions. He had to make the decision to run or not to run, um, so, but people thought, well, you need to say this or you need to say that, no. You know, Joe, Joe and I discussed probably everything, but in the end, on those matters, he was the one to make the decision.

BRAVER: Um, so what did you see as your role in the administration?

BIDEN: Uh, oh, my role. Oh my gosh. I guess my role was um- I saw myself really as the American woman in that I was working full time. I'm the first-First Lady to have a, a paying job outside The White House…

BRAVER: Outside the White House,.

BIDEN: …and I taught, uh, English at a community college and, um, which I loved, and then I had my role as First Lady, so, uh, I guess it was just trying to, I don't know, balance it all.

The conversation would shift to the downturn Biden’s approval within months of his taking office. The big catalyst for this was the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Real Clear Polling average had Biden at 50% until about two weeks before the ISIS-K terror attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport. Jill Biden blames the downturn on a lack of civility.

RITA BRAVER: You talked about many of your husband's successes, the Build Back Better, um, passing the first, uh, major gun legislation in 30 years. Um, you also say “when Joe and I moved into the White House in January 2021, it felt as if though we had the wind at our back, and then within a few months the wind shifted.” There were lots of things that happened in that time. There was Afghanistan, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and why do you think it shifted?

JILL BIDEN: Because of the reasons you just named.

BRAVER: Also, was there a shift in Congress, do you think?

BIDEN: Oh my gosh, yes, I mean we had, you know, a Republican Congress and um, well, it was, let's just say- when Joe started in politics, all during his Senate years and even some into the vice presidency, Republicans and Democrats respected one another. You know, yes, they had differences of opinion, but they never let it get personal. There were never personal attacks on one another, and I think that's a big change of, you know, what we see today where it's so personal and so mean and vindictive a lot of times and- and why is that necessary? I- I didn't grow up like that. Joe didn't grow up like that, um. You know, these are the people we elected, and I think um there has to be more civility.

The interview was little more than book promotion fluff, and it shows here. One immediately recalls the slew of Biden speeches wherein he declared half the country to be enemies of Democracy™, and the civility take merited such a follow-up.

Next, Jill Biden claims she had to walk out of the room as Vice President Kamala Harris pressed Joe to give her his endorsement after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.

BRAVER: It was Sunday, July 21st, 2024. Before your husband made the announcement. he called Vice President Harris to tell her what he had decided, and you said almost as soon as he gave her the news, she demanded that he endorse her right away, and he- he, I mean, did you think something was off about that?

BIDEN: You know, I'm sure she thought about it. You know it wasn't like a call out of the blue. I'm sure with everything happening at that time it had to cross her mind so I think, um, I think that's what-

BRAVER: When you said it was back and forth because she wanted him, um, to endorse her at the same time he announced that he was dropping out and he wanted to just make the announcement of the dropout first, right?

BIDEN: Oh yeah, sure.

BRAVER: And you said you even walked out of the room because it was- got too tense maybe?

BIDEN: Well, it was just, I'm telling you, it was so hard. I mean this is what Joe had worked for all his life. He loved being a statesman. Um, he loved the job of helping the American people and to give it up. I mean Rita, he did it for over 50 years of his life. That's a long time. And so at some point when all of this is going on. It gets a little overwhelming, and yes, I had to walk out.

Moving to the broadcast portion, it began with a question on the change of pace going from Washington to Wilmington, and Dr. Jill claiming White House medical team missed President Biden’s cancer diagnosis.

BRAVER: But there has not been a lot of peace for the Bidens.

Just four months after leaving office, President Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage four prostate cancer that had traveled to his bones.

BIDEN: Yes.

BRAVER: How is the president doing now?

BIDEN: He is doing well. But it was a shock. I mean, Rita, honestly, I can remember getting the diagnosis, and it was just, it was shocking.

BRAVER: Do you think that someone, when he was in The White House, should have discovered it, given him a test?

BIDEN: Well, you know, the doctors said that according to the American Urological Association, that men over 70 don't need a PSA, a blood blood test anymore because it's a slow-growing cancer. I have to say, Rita, I do feel we had amazing care in The White House, but somehow that was missed.

BRAVER: So you're a little bit tense when it comes to his health, huh?

BIDEN: I don’t know if the word is “tense”, but I’m vigilant.

BRAVER: I mean, I have spoken to many people who saw the president, especially during the last two years of his term, and they said they thought he was slipping.

BIDEN: Oh, he was definitely aging. I mean, we are all aging, Rita. I mean, so, yes, he was slowing down.

BRAVER: I mean, people were saying he wasn't the same Joe Biden.

BIDEN: Well, I don't think that's true. He was the same -- the essence of the same Joe Biden, but, yeah, he was slowing down. He was getting older. I mean, we all observe that. When, you know, it's a very intense job. I think it ages you quickly. Look at the other presidents. I mean, look in comparison when they started in office and got out of office, and it was natural aging.

BRAVER: From the start of the administration even, some polls were showing that many Americans were questioning the president's mental fitness. I asked you about it when I interviewed you, and you said there’s nothing to it.

BIDEN: And I still say that.

BIDEN: That's right. I mean, there was so much really institutional memory in that building. I loved the East Wing.

BRAVER: Did you ever think of changing the title after the East Wing was destroyed?

BIDEN: Oh, no. Then I thought, this is the perfect title for my book.

RITA BRAVER: Joe Biden proudly touts her husband's accomplishments.

JILL BIDEN: He got legislation done. He- I mean, he created more jobs in his four-year term than any other president. Look at all he did. I mean, look at the infrastructure bill. And, you know, the American Rescue Plan.

BRAVER: When she arrived at the first presidential debate of 2024, she saw that President Biden wasn't feeling well.

JILL BIDEN: But then Joe always, even if he was off a little bit, would always rally, and I thought, “okay, so he'll get in there in that debate and he'll be fine.” He is going to rally. But he got in there. He got into the debate and he didn't.

JOE BIDEN: …making sure they were able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I have been able to do with the -- with the covid -- excuse me, with dealing with everything we have to do with -- look, if- we finally beat Medicare.

BRAVER: Were you horrified as you saw it unfold?

JILL BIDEN: I wasn't horrified. I was frightened because I had never, ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never.

BRAVER: Or since.

JILL BIDEN: Yes.

BRAVER: Never seen him like that.

JILL BIDEN: Never. No.

BRAVER: What happened?

JILL BIDEN: I don't know what happened. I mean, as I watched it, I thought, oh my God, he’s having a stroke. And it scared me to death. And then he never seemed to --

BRAVER: Find himself?

JILL BIDEN: Find himself, yeah, after that. But then, Rita, I have to tell you, as we were walking out, you know, he said I really -- I am not going to use the words because it's morning TV, but I really sort of messed up, didn't I? And I said, yes, you did. And we left the stage area, and what people don't know, he had two events after that, and he was fine. I mean, he was fine. It was inexplicable.

BRAVER: What if that happened during a meeting with foreign leaders or something like that?

JILL BIDEN: I don’t know how to answer that.

How do we know that this didn’t happen? One recalls the former president having to get wrangled by Italian Prime Minister Meloni during the D-Day celebrations, because he strayed from the group photo.

Again, we didn’t get much from Braver in the way of follow-up. The interview was little more than a safe space for Jill Biden to try to reframe her husband's quadrennium and promote her book. It was not a safe space for things such as questions or reporting. As our own Curtis Houck often muses, the new CBS isn't Newsmax- no matter how much the media hall monitors may howl otherwise.

Acosta, Couric Lack Self-Awareness: Ellisons Turning CBS & CNN Into 'Propaganda Giant' #Political

When the networks promote the Democrats inside a liberal bubble, the liberals call that "tried and true news." If it departs from that bubble in the slightest, it's turning into "propaganda."

Appearing on the podcast Next Question with Katie Couric on May 27, former CNN White House screamer Jim Acosta worried that the Ellisons taking over CBS and CNN has "the makings of a propaganda giant." Both journalists demonstrated an incredible lack of self-awareness.

ACOSTA: And so it sounds as though to me that the wheels have come off over at CBS and Bari Weiss only has herself to blame. And, you know, I think some of – a couple of things. One is, I think this is an ideological project on the part of the Ellisons, who have bought CBS Paramount, and Bari Weiss, and that they're going to try to translate this ideological experiment over to CNN. And I'm very worried about what's taking place right now because now it looks like it's a fait accompli that that Paramount is going to be able to gobble up Warner Brothers Discovery, the parent company of CNN, and that you're going to have what is essentially the makings of a propaganda giant in this country.

That's funny, because "propaganda" might describe Acosta asking President Obama about his "best week ever" in 2015, or gushing on Obama's second Inauguration Day that "I should pinch myself" at his vantage point in history.

It's easy to remember Couric giggling with Hillary Clinton on 60 Minutes. But that was "tried and true news" according to these two.

ACOSTA: And Katie, what concerns me so much about this is that you and I have been in this business long enough to know we haven't had that before in this country. And folks might say, oh, it's a bit hyperbolic to say, oh, it's going to be propaganda and so on.

COURIC: Well, we have Fox News, wouldn't you call that?

ACOSTA: I would say we have, we have that in this, but I think Fox is a different animal in that we kind of already are living with it and have been living with it for some time. Whereas you are taking two news organizations, CBS and CNN that had been basically operating as, you know, regular tried and true news divisions. And in fact, trying to turn them into propaganda arms of the Trump administration. And I've been saying that on my show, we already have one Fox, we don't need another one.

And the liberals have possessed ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, NPR, CNN, and MSNBC* for decades. That's a "propaganda giant," but it's exactly the way they like it. Then came the complaining about the networks who settled lawsuits with Trump rather than divulge their internal emails (which we would have loved to see):

COURIC: Yeah. And I, I've been pretty outspoken about this whole sort of tit for tat, and, you know, pay-to-play situation that happened almost at ABC, but they turned it around and reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. But this thing with $16 million for a specious lawsuit that had no merit about the editing of a Kamala Harris interview. That's how it started. And then Trump was suing CBS. And then they gave him $16 million for his library [makes sarcastic quote fingers] or whatever it was for, basically to pave the way, to get this merger approved. You know, I still have friends at CBS. They're very upset about what is happening there. And I'm sure you also talk to people at CNN. And, you know, Trump has even pointed out anchors. He doesn't like, I mean, case in point, you were one of them, Jim.

ACOSTA: Yeah. He said he got rid of me. Yeah. And, and, you know, here, I thought these were just programming decisions. You know, he put out a true social post not too long ago and taking credit for the ousting of various anchors and hosts. Stephen Colbert being one, myself, Terry Moran, some others.

Remember that Acosta wasn't exactly "ousted." He was offered a late-night show and turned it down. Maybe he didn't want to enter a propaganda contest with Colbert and Kimmel.

MS NOW’s Daniels: ‘It’s Their Country’ on Cuba — But Not Apartheid South Africa #Political

On Saturday's episode of MS NOW's The Weekend, co-host Eugene Daniels offered a revealing defense of the Cuban regime:

"It's their country, so them deciding what kind of government and political system they want to have, the leaders and the folks in that country, is their business, I think a lot of people would say."

This is the standard sovereignty shield used to protect dictatorships. Daniels ignored that Cuba has been ruled by communist tyrants since 1959, with no free elections and a long record of suppressing "the folks." If those "folks" had a chance to express themselves in a free and fair referendum, does Daniels doubt the great majority would choose freedom?

The selective outrage was especially clear when Daniels mocked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for being “obsessed” with liberating Cuba — a lifelong passion rooted in his family’s exile experience.

Would Daniels, born in 1989, have used that same mocking tone toward Reverend Jesse Jackson? In 1984, Jackson delivered a fiery speech at the United Nations explicitly calling for strict sanctions against South Africa and demanding that U.S. corporations immediately divest and pull out of the country. Was Jackson “obsessed”?

Rhetorical questions, because Daniels and his colleagues surely would not have used that dismissive language against Jackson or other black leaders who aggressively pushed for external pressure to end apartheid. Yet when it comes to Marco Rubio and Cuba, the mockery flows freely.

The ideological double standard is glaring. When it comes to a communist dictatorship oppressing Cubans for 66 years, MS NOW shrugs and says “it’s their country.” When it was white minority rule in South Africa, external pressure and sanctions were not just justified — they were morally required.

At the close of the segment, co-host Jonathan Capehart warned against testing the Cuban foreign minister’s threat of a “bloodbath” should the US intervene militarily. Capehart apparently believes that U.S. policy should be shaped by saber-rattling from a two-bit tyrant just 90 miles from our shores.

ANTHONY COLEY: David, there is another hotspot developing in the country. I'm going to take you over to Cuba. I think there is a real humanitarian crisis there. Can you take us into your reporting on what you're hearing both about the humanitarian crisis and about the possibility of military strikes there?

DAVID ROHDE: Yeah, the humanitarian crisis is really severe there. To be fair, part of that is the fault of the Cuban government, which has, I think, mismanaged the economy. There's also a U.S. boycott, and the U.S., under the Trump administration, has cut off oil shipments. Our colleague, Antonia Hylton, interviewed the Cuban foreign minister this week.

And it was interesting because, again, there was thinking that there was negotiations that were reducing tensions there. And at least in that interview, the foreign minister was really aggressive, and complaining about the U.S., saying that the blocking of oil and other supplies to the country was creating this terrible humanitarian crisis.

That's true, but he specifically attacked Secretary of State Marco Rubio and said that while they say certain things in private, American officials, Rubio is saying very different things in public. Accused him of being disingenuous. So that's concerning.

I don't think the United States at this point, the administration wants to launch a military operation in the second part of the world. For now, they want to pressure the Cuban regime economically, and try to sort of pull off, have a new leader emerge like Delcy Rodriguez, who will essentially do what the administration wants in Cuba. That leader hasn't emerged either, but I don't think we've seen, I don't see an imminent military action by the U.S. in Cuba right now.

EUGENE DANIELS: David, you mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio. I want to play what he said on Wednesday at the White House during the Cabinet meeting, about Cuba.

MARCO RUBIO: Cuba's in a lot of trouble because, unfortunately for them, it's run by a bunch of incompetent communists. And being communist is bad. Being an incompetent communist is, like, the worst. So we'll be talking to them. We'll be working on it. You know, we want something good for the Cuban people. And hopefully there'll be a good outcome there for them. There needs to be. It's 90 miles from our shores. And having a failed state 90 miles from our shores is a threat to the national security of the United States.

DANIELS: It's their country, so them deciding what kind of government and political system they want to have, the leaders and the folks in that country, is their business, I think a lot of people would say.

I will also say Marco Rubio has been, has his entire life, been kind of obsessed with overthrowing -- he literally wrote in his book, American Son, when he was running for office, basically that as a kid, he would have these fantasies where he was someone who would charge the gates and save the Cuban people.

. . .

JONATHAN CAPEHART: And as the Cuban foreign minister told Antonia Hylton, and I quote, "If Cuba were attacked, it would have to defend itself. It would lead to bloodbath, the death of thousands of Cubans, and also the deaths of young Americans."

That could be saber rattling, but who wants to test that proposition?

Maher Describes Texas Senate Race As 'Attila The Hun' Versus 'Nice Guy' #Political

On Friday’s episode of Real Time, HBO’s Bill Maher sought to frame the Texas Senate race between Ken Paxton and James Talarico as “Attila the Hun” versus “a nice guy.” At the same time, after former GOP Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy pointed out that Talarico has said some whacky things in the past, MS NOW host Katy Tur stepped in to defend Talarico by claiming “he’s taken that back.”

As McCarthy and Tur were taking the discussion away from Texas, Maher tried to get them back on track, “Can I get back to Texas because we didn't talk about who he's running against, Paxton. Okay, so you have Attila the Hun on this side. Then we have this guy James Talarico. We had him on the show recently. I mean, he seemed like a nice guy, he seemed very reasonable. They are spreading rumors that he's gay or even worse, vegan.”

Amid laughter at the idea of veganism being disqualifying, McCarthy sought to add, “In Texas, vegan is worse. He said he ran a vegan campaign.”

Maher sought clarification, “What? He said what?”

Referencing Talarico’s 2022 campaign, McCarthy recalled, “He's on video running a vegan campaign. That doesn't play well in Texas.”

Maher was forced to concede, “No. He said some things that do not play well in Texas, like "God is nonbinary," which, if there is a God—”

Tur then jumped in to defend Talarico on that point, “He's taken that back. He said it was a silly thing for him to say.”

Talarico’s campaign conversion is difficult to take seriously. For one thing, on the “God is nonbinary” bit, Talarico said he was being "intentionally provocative”—an odd choice for someone who brags about his seminarian background—while horribly misinterpreting the Bible passage he used to justify the original claim. Maher also didn’t talk about Talarico’s six sexes claim, which is probably because Maher has previously agreed with the anti-scientific argument that chromosomal abnormalities are unique sexes. In the interview Tur cited where Talarico supposedly walked back his wild statements, he said he said there were six sexes because he wanted people with chromosomal abnormalities to be “treated with dignity and respect.” Considering literally nobody said they should be treated with disrespect, Talarico’s straw man was just a cover for his vote to allow males who think they are women to compete in girls and women’s sports.

Nevertheless, Maher moved on to the X feud between Stephen Miller and the Democratic Party. While lamenting the all-around lack of civility, Maher managed to get one good joke in at Democrats’ expense, “Okay, but listen to this, so Stephen Miller of the Trump administration, right there with Attila. He said the Democrats made history by nominating the first transgender Senate candidate. That he says pulling out of his ass. Even if they did, it should not be disqualifying. Jewish for the Democrats, yes, but not transgender. Then the Democratic Twitter account fired back, ‘Shut up, you ugly fuck.’”

Turning next to Miller’s wife, Katie, Maher added, “Then Stephen Miller's wife fired back at the woman who ran the Twitter account and said she's 30, unmarried, no kids. First of all, I love it that that's the worst insult you can think of. Everybody I know who's unmarried with no kids. You know, that’s good.”

While Maher basks in his singleness, it is possible that Senate control could be decided in Texas. Therefore, the media—both Tur’s traditional media and Maher’s comedy media—should focus on what Talarico believes and not just Paxton’s controversies.

Get It Together! Darcy Spirals, Treats Weiss’s ’60 Minutes’ Changes Like Someone Died #Political

Status founder, liberal media hall monitor, and virulent conservative hater Oliver Darcy took to his newsletter site Thursday night to drop over 1,600 words melting down over CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss’s remake of 60 Minutes by hiring author, filmmaker, and former New York Times columnist Nick Bilton as its new executive producer and jettisoning Tanya Simon, Sharyn Alfonsi, and Cecilia Vega.

Darcy and his ilk spent Thursday in a state of pure panic, showcasing how the liberal, elite media are dominated by godless individuals who view journalism and supposedly venerable brands such as 60 Minutes and, say, NPR as their churches and their staff as deities.

He seethed over this “bloodbath” that left CBS News “descend[ing] into chaos” and on-the-record quotes from thou-shalt-not-criticize former stalwarts such as Bill Owens and Steve Kroft.

In Owens’s case, he told Darcy “they’re killing ’60 Minutes’” that Darcy lamented was stated by a man “who does not make such comments lightly.”

Kroft – who soiled 60 Minutes with an infamous Clintons interview and a compendium of obsequious chats with Barack Obama – said the show’s been “executed by the President of the United States” after having “[made] threats against ’60 Minutes’ and how he wanted it gone.”

With sanctimonious, skin-crawling-levels of ego, Kroft went on to tell him “I don’t know” if the show “could…be resurrected one day,” but he does know “the show as people have known it for 50 years is dead.”

Bilton hasn’t been able to put pen to paper (or maybe even been set up with a work phone and email), and the ruling class has already proclaimed 60 Minutes will be MAGA TV.

“Inside the halls of the newsmagazine on Manhattan’s 57th Street, the mood was grim. Heartbroken staffers said goodbye to colleagues and worried openly about the future of a television institution. ‘It’s like a funeral in here,’ an insider told Status. ‘People are devastated,’” Darcy declared.

What is this? 2016 election night?

Someone send CBS News liberals some beanbag chairs and coloring books.

Darcy argued showrunner Tanya Simon – daughter of the late, famous 60 Minutes correspondent Bob Simon – had raked in Emmys and Polk Awards and “led the show to new heights” over the past season.

Of course, Darcy’s idea of superb journalism includes a theme of spewing as much hatred at Trump as possible with stories such as the infamous Alfonsi hatchet job about the Salvadoran prison, Vega’s on anti-Israel former U.S. diplomats, and celebrating far-left Catholic Cardinals trashing Trump.

Relaying how Simon, Alfonsi, and then the show’s “first Latina” in Vega were all canned, Darcy said “anxious staffers watched throughout the day as Simon and [executive editor Draggan] Mihailovich packed up their offices” with “tears flow[ing] openly” and “[s]taffers exchang[ing] texts expressing not only heartbreak, but genuine anger at Weiss and Ellison for upending a program they treasure.”

Of course, there was no acknowledgement that sending I-am-Spartacus emails to colleagues, ripping the people who employ you usually doesn’t end well.

Instead, Darcy served up comically stereotypical quotes about anonymous CBS journalists saying they’re being “gutted” and “violated” with the show unable “to function”:

“They’re gutting us,” one “60 Minutes” staffer told Status. “It’s over. I don’t see how ‘60’ will be able to function after this.”

“Goodnight and good luck, motherfuckers,” the staffer added.

“Everyone—100% thought Tanya and Draggan did exemplary jobs,” another senior “60 Minutes” staffer told Status. “It hurts. We feel violated.”

He shared longtime 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl tried to rally the troops, “[b]ut her remarks, I’m told, failed to lift spirits” of those “deflated and discouraged[.]”

Additionally, he predicted it’s possible “other staffers and correspondents decide to leave on their own accord.”

“The program will carry the name into the future. The iconic ticking clock will also remain. But the show’s DNA is being warped,” he huffed.

Along with decreeing these changes are Trump’s doing on, at a minimum, an implicit level, he panned Bilton’s hire and because he’s “a technology journalist” with “no television news or managerial experience.”

For good measure, Darcy kicked dirt on Bilton’s welcome message, saying his “note did not exactly win anyone over[.]” What petulance.

Moving briefly to Vega, her farewell message came off like MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell had penned it for a West Wing revival, dripping with main character energy and “fear[ing] what comes next for and the future of the legendary broadcast” with rampant “censorship” that’s “dangerous for democracy” (click “expand”):

In recent months, my producing teams and I have experienced efforts to insert political bias into our stories. Reporting teams have held back on submitting story pitches about important news topics out of fear of the internal repercussions.

Let’s call this what it is: censorship, both imposed and self-driven. It is dangerous for the show and dangerous for democracy.

I held the line and refused to incorporate suggestions that offend the conscience, a phrase I borrow from a colleague who has also fought to keep questionable editorial suggestions away from the facts.

She later closed by plugging her DEI status and leveled a warning to Weiss: “Today I lost an amazing job. But I still have my integrity. To my former colleagues, continue to hold the line.”

She also made reference to a “personal red line,” which was amusing to read considering her long history of rampant liberal bias and lobbing weapons-grade hate at Trump supporters on election night 2024.

While the so-called media reporting class insist CBS News is MAGA TV, reality continues to prove otherwise with Friday’s CBS Mornings delivering another example as they brought on liberal author and historian Chris Whipple to assert “we should cut Jill Biden some slack” and “take her at her word” that, as she told CBS Sunday Morning, she has never seen Joe Biden in cognitive decline before or since the infamous June 2024 debate.

Whipple was asked by co-host Gayle King for her “reaction right away to what you’re hearing Jill Biden say about her husband’s health” and the former seemed to channel MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough with his “best Biden ever” shtick.

Whipple tried to have his cake and eat it too with the farcical assertion that “I really think that we should cut Jill Biden some slack on this” and “there is no compelling evidence that Joe Biden was unable to perform the duties of the presidency behind closed doors.”

At the same time, though, he said “[i]t’s a fact that Joe Biden never should have run for reelection” as “[h]e was too old or would have been too old” by the end of a second term and thus Jill was “complicit in that decision, which was a tragedy for the Bidens and the Democratic Party, arguably the country.”

“I take Jill Biden at her word that she never saw a moment like that disastrous moment in the debate before or after…[N]obody around Biden ever saw an episode like that moment in the debate,” he added.

King seemed shell-shocked:

You take her word even after the debate, when she said you did so well, you answered all the questions, when clearly that did not appear to be the case with all of us who had been watching, and that she had never seen that – that after? You take her word at that?

Whipple doubled down on his muddied mess. He insisted he wasn’t “giving her a pass, Gayle, on everything,” and Jill “was completely wrong” to tell crowds he did well, but then excused her fibs as “a First Lady trying to be supportive in the moment.”

He also painted the decision to run Joe for a second term as “a historically tragic decision” for the country and blasted as “nonsense” the narrative “that Joe Biden was Woodrow Wilson incapacitated in a corner while a cabal of aides was [sic] running the country by autopen.”

So, is Whipple one of those people who argued in 2024 that Biden lacked the fitness to run for office, but was perfectly capable of being President?

Having criticized Jill and White House aides as having had Joe run, he also praised his sources while swiping at CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson for their book about Biden’s decline:

I like Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. I think they’re great reporters, but I think they were wrong on this. I talked to so many aides who were in the room with Biden to the very end. And literally on the morning that he abdicated when he negotiated a complex multi-nation prisoner swap from his beach house in Rebo – Rehoboth. So, I just think that the, you know, this is sort of a myth that Biden was incapacitated.

To be clear, Whipple also released a book on the 2024 election last year and thus was a direct competitor to Tapper and Thompson.

Featured co-host Vladimir Duthiers made his own run at Whipple with the reality that “a lot of people will say” Jill’s comments to CBS’s Rit Braver “that she hasn’t seen a moment like that since that debate, may strain credibility.”

Whipple responded with one last contortion. Having touted Biden aides as having never seen the then-President sundowning, he said “a lot of them were trapped in this fog of delusion and denial” about Joe’s faculties to be president from 2025 to 2028.

He concluded by firing off another howling Notable Quotable-worthy bit that “historians have to deal with the fact that this moment in that debate is still a mystery” (click “expand”):

They thought he could run for reelection, and he thought he could win. He couldn’t. He was incapable of – of an effective campaign or being President for another four years. That’s a different issue from whether anything like this had happened before or after the debate. I watched that debate, and I thought he was having a stroke. It’s perfectly plausible to me that Jill Biden put so too, because she hadn’t seen a moment like that before or after. And everybody I’ve talked to, including as close as aides, say, long after this debate, they were in endless meetings on policy presided over by Biden – meetings in which Donald Trump would have certainly fallen asleep, but he was functioning. So, historians have to deal with the fact that this moment in that debate is still a mystery. We don’t know what happened.

OOF! NY Times Dances Around UN Scientists Scrapping Trendy Climate Armageddon Scenario #Political

Watching an arrogant lefty newspaper scatter around like a bug trying to salvage its climate doom mongering after scientists pull the proverbial rug out from underneath it is one of the most satisfying things to see.

New York Times reporters Brad Plumer and Eric Niiler tried to temper the political firestorm that erupted after an international team of climate researchers “abandoned” the ridiculous RCP8.5, one of the most dire climate change scenarios that’s been passed around through the academic ether over the years like a virus.

Their May 26 item, “Why Scientists Retired the Dire Climate Scenario Used for Over a Decade,” tried to double down on the global warming boondoggle while giving a perfunctory nod to the fact that the climate apocalypse may have been exaggerated, “While global warming is still a threat, the decision to back away from a worst-case outlook raises questions about whether some risks have been overstated.”

No kidding, Sherlock! The Times itself is guilty of pushing the same kind of unhinged scare porn based on RCP8.5, as American Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Roger Pielke Jr. concluded based on a Times article published October 15, 2025 headlined, “New York Is Going to Flood. Here’s What the City Can Do to Survive.” How about this “interactive” beauty from New York Times Magazine legitimizing the RCP8.5 scenario from October 26, 2022, “Beyond Catastrophe: A New Climate Reality Is Coming Into View?” That piece, authored by Times columnist David Wallace-Wells, bookended both the hopeful and catastrophic climate scenarios based on mere projections of future global emissions output:

For decades, visions of possible climate futures have been anchored by, on the one hand, Pollyanna-like faith that normality would endure, and on the other, millenarian intuitions of an ecological end of days, during which perhaps billions of lives would be devastated or destroyed.

Reading Plumer and Niiler’s soft-pedaled walk-back in retrospect is enough to evoke a few chuckles:

The majority of climate scientists still say global warming is a serious problem, and that even more plausible, medium-emissions scenarios can carry grave dangers. But the new paper has raised questions about whether some of the risks of climate change have been poorly communicated or overstated in years past and how best to think about those risks going forward.

Worthy of note is that “majority of climate scientists” is quite the step backward from “overwhelming scientific consensus,” eh boys?

Perhaps The Times should look itself in the mirror, but since when has the Old Gray Lady shown any capability of self-awareness? Plumer and Niiler downplayed how RCP8.5 “wasn’t meant to be a prediction, but more of a ‘worst case,’ said Detlef van Vuuren, a climate scientist at Utrecht University and a leading figure in scenario development.” Then why was the newspaper acting as if it was only a matter of time before New York City would start treading water?

Despite the RCP8.5 scenario being tossed out, both Plumer and Niiler tried to salvage the utility of pushing climate apocalypse narratives, even if they’re implausible in nature:

Many scientists find it useful to probe such hypotheticals. Climate models often struggle to capture dynamics like whether ice sheets might collapse with moderate warming, even though this is an extraordinarily important question for the real world.

It’s also “useful” if you’re trying to scare readers silly to push a ludicrous agenda that has hamstrung the U.S. economy for years.

PBS Wonders Why 'We' Aren't Excited For America 250 #Political

The “And Company” part of Thursday’s Amanpour and Company on PBS presumed to speak on behalf of the whole country when offering up some gloomy predictions about the upcoming America 250 celebrations. Walter Isaacson claimed that “we” are not looking forward to the celebrations, while author and The New Yorker staff writer Jill Lepore claimed the “epic moment will elude us” partly due to President Trump.

Isaacson asked Lepore, “In a month, we're going to be celebrating our 250th. But boy, we seem like we're in no mood for a celebration. How difficult is it to celebrate at a time like this politically?”

Before anyone could ask, "Who is we?” Lepore echoed the sentiment while adding Trump has a lot to do with it, “It really is a kind of perfect storm. There's just so much going on in the country, really, from town to town, city neighborhood to city neighborhood, where people are asking basic questions about the nature of the American experiment, the meaning of our heritage, the direction of the nation's future. I mean, between the 250th, the kind of ongoing, rolling, intense debates that the Trump administration spurs.”

Lepore continued by suggesting that concerns about AI will somehow affect the celebrations, “And we're also in the midst of this, you know, AI backlash moment, this techlash moment. So, I think there's going to be a lot of hot dogs and parades and baseball games and bicycle races and basketball games and a lot of regular old standard 4th of July celebration, but I think the larger kind of epic moment will elude us.”

By “we” and “us” Isaacson and Lepore mean themselves and other liberals. For the rest of “us,” “we’re” going to be just fine because there have been “intense debates” about “the nation’s future” for the last 250 years—some much more intense than the ones about Trump—and there will be for the next 250 years, and PBS isn’t going to be able to ruin it by making America’s 250th birthday about their opposition to Trump.
