Songs about cars and driving are awesome because a lot of the time spent listening to music is in your vehicle while the song blasts through your speakers and pours out of your rolled-down windows. Or maybe you only listen to music on you iPod. Either way, songs about cars are awesome, so here are 7 of the best songs about cars and/or driving.

“Little Red Corvette” by Prince

watch?v=wP_Mmoe4R3I

This might be one of the most famous songs about cars, but that doesn’t mean it’s too obvious to be featured. Sure, Prince isn’t really singing about a corvette, but you know how musicians are with their metaphors.

“Shut Up And Drive” by Rihanna

watch?v=up7pvPqNkuU&ob=av2e

Here’s another example of lyrics with a foundation in extended metaphor. This analogy, like Prince’s, is a little on the sensual side to say the least, but the songwriters really know how to get around being explicit.

“Life is a Highway” by Tom Cochrane/Rascal Flatts

watch?v=mvsmRuRp4cM

Ah, at least this time it’s a simile, and it’s a more family friendly analogy, as well. Kids get a kick out of this song because it was featured in the movie Cars, and adults probably like its catchiness and references to life’s adventures.

“My Hooptie” by Sir Mix-A-Lot

watch?v=kTeTv73PH58

Sir Mix-A-Lot deserves some credit for writing lyrics that depict quite the driving odyssey. More about an actual car than any other song on here, it deserves a top spot for that reason alone!

“Every Day is a Winding Road” by Cheryl Crow

watch?v=khrx-zrG460&ob=av3e

Somehow roads are great for representing time, life, and the path toward goals. Cheryl doesn’t miss out on this opportunity and sings one of her most popular songs about how “every day is a winding road — I get a little bit closer.”

“On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson

watch?v=E_PRGtDdKro

I’m so glad Willie Nelson made the list, as this song is a classic, and watching him sing it is bound to make you at least a little bit happier about life.

“I’m in Love With My Car” by Queen

watch?v=F9ZAhHDv2Oc&ob=av3e

Add the epicness of Queen to some lyrics (really, any lyrics) about cars, and you have an automatic top 7 song. Check out the video to watch a clip of the band playing it.

Conclusion

There are a ton of songs about cars and driving, and even though a handful of them aren’t actually about the cars they’re singing about, they’re still fun to listen to nonetheless. Have you ever seen that driver, singing at the top of her lungs, and then running the red light? Don’t be that driver, or you’ll be facing some hits on your car insurance. Enjoy singing your lungs out responsibly J

Which songs do you know of that involve cars?

Okay, so I’m sure it has been done before. Everyone knows how great the Beatles are, right? But, what I’m finding lately (especially when I talk “music” with my two children) is that the gap between music then and music now is widening . . . and the younger generation is missing out on the greatness that is The Beatles. I grew up in the era of grunge, and sure, I loved Kurt Cobain, but while all of my friends were head-thrashing to morose punk-like garage rock and thinking about asking for personal cash loans, my heart was flowering to The Beatles. And the album that touched me the most was Abbey Road. My sister and brother bought it for me for my sixteenth birthday, and it found its home in my totally awesome, nineties boom-box CD player, where it stayed until it most likely make everyone in my family nauseous. It was a love affair I’ll never forget. I just couldn’t get enough of this epic album, and here’s why . . .

The beginning-to-end effect. You really have to listen to the album from start to finish in order to get what it is all about. That’s because, for about the last half of the album, the songs all run together. The result is that you actually live through a changing environment as the album evolves. Sometimes it is hard to tell where one song ends and the next begins. Even more, many of the later songs reference the earlier songs, as if they are recalling a dream. It’s haunting and ethereal, and brings to mind those things that we know exist, but that we don’t quite understand – like déjà-vu. In short, Abbey Road is an experience, reminiscent of the uncertainty – and the mystery – of this thing we call of life.

The gems. Some of The Beatles’ best work is on Abbey Road, including “Come Together,” “Here Comes the Sun,” and “Something.” Of course there is more, but the innovation in just these three examples speaks volumes.

The end. I am a music junkie, and I have a hard time identifying any greater (or better fitting) closing song than “Medley,” off Abbey Road. It’s a conglomerate of all that was good from the album, complete with the hallmark sound clips and recall technique that made the album so special, which builds in intensity as the song progresses through an infectious drum beat that is just as relevant today as it was then, and which ends with verse that is so simply poignant that it could only have belonged to the Beatles: “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.” What’s better than that?

Need a good refresher on where modern music came from? Want the hair on your arms to stand up? Then put your headphones on (no boom box necessary), turn up the volume, close your eyes, and take a trip that you’ll never forget when you walk down The Beatle’s Abbey Road.

My favorite Christmas album EVER – that’s what this one is. Okay, so I know those are strong words, but there are no words strong enough to express how totally awesome my favorite Christmas album is. This is the album that my sister and brother and I used to dance around the tree to – the album that we sang along to in mock concerts. This album changed my life, in that I share it with my children today and it is still just as fresh, as intoxicating, and as rockin’ as it was when I was a little girl. What Christmas album am I speaking of? Well, for those of you who haven’t already figured it out (and I truly feel for you), this best Christmas music album EVER is none other than The Chipmunk’s “Christmas with the Chipmunks.” Here’s why . . .

Those charming high-pitched voices. There is no sound more ethereal (or playfully endearing) during the holiday season than those sweet, helium-like voices singing in harmony. No matter what your age – from the tiniest toddler to the most world-worn adult – I just dare you to listen to this album without cracking a smile.

The novelty. What is more delightful than the thought of a trio of fuzzy woodland creatures serenading us with catchy Christmas carols? And who hasn’t seen an episode of The Chipmunks cartoon and fallen in love with those cute, precocious little guys? Sure, Bing Crosby singing “White Christmas” is great, but he just doesn’t hold a candle to three singing, dancing rodents, does he?

The best Christmas song EVER. The Christmas with the Chipmunks album just happens to feature a beloved classic that, if you ask me, takes the cake in any best Christmas song ever competition. Of course, this song is “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late).” This song was actually written in 1958 by Ross Bagdasarian, and was an instant hit. There is no doubt it’s an infectious tune, made even more memorable by those lovable chipmunk voices.

Variety. Not only do you get the original Chipmunk Song on this great Christmas album, but you also get a great collection of classic Christmas stand-bys, sung as only the chipmunks can sing. These include “Silver Bells,” “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and so much more – twelve songs, to be exact.

If you need help finding the best Christmas album you can this year, then look no further. Go to Presta and lease yourself a new cd player and give it a whirl. The chipmunks are here to help you celebrate the holiday season with their own, special brand of holiday cheer.

Music sites are the URLs from where people can download music, videos albums audio files etc. The first music download site many people look to is iTunes, whilst this is certainly an easy option it may not always be the best. iTunes can often be expensive and it doesn’t always have the music you want on it. For music the classic format is mp3, based on an audio data compression algorithm. The introduction of music download sites to the internet has revolutionized the way we consume music.

The tips to find the legal Music Download Site are:

1. Pay for use: This is one of the most effective ways to identify whether a site is legal or not. Many legal sites use an enticement, to allow browsers to use music sites.

2. Size Limits: A legal music download site generally distributes music from reputable labels and artists. The range of music is restricted on the legal sites and they actually selling real legal music, and not the massive files associated with computer games and movies etc.

3. Volume limits: Legal music download sites usually distribute their material on a per song basis. Legal music sites will actually setup download limits as well as transfer rate limits.

4. Larger databases, Larger costs: The larger the databases that the legal download sites have, the more it will actually cost. The reason why these sites are more expensive than the illegal music sites is because they are obliged to give a portion of their fees back to the recording industry.

5. Limited Choice: Most of the legal music download sites don’t have the capacity or copyright authority to distribute hundreds of songs. The songs are stored on servers with a finite amount of space. The other reason for the limited choice is that it is highly unlikely to get an agreement from every single record label to distribute their music online.

6. No Adware or Spyware: Legal music download sites like their offline retail counterparts get an actual fee for their service. They don’t want to scam or upset their customers by placing dangerous and annoying spyware and adware programs on their computers.

7. Music Only: The fact is that a legal music download site only has music on it to download. This means that one won’t be able to download computer games, movies or anything else like this. My next piece will be related to music and repaying under Ch 13, something you need to know if you are going to go after music that is not free to get.

One of the things I love most about the holiday season is the special genre of music, filled with both old and new tunes. I love listening to old favorites, classic orchestras, and even some of today’s newest artists as they try to put a spin on favorites done by some of the best in years past. Holiday music, whether religious or simply mushy, will always hold a special place in my heart. That’s why I was so excited to find so many hot new holiday albums ready for release this year. Here are just 5 I am positive you’ll love.

A Holiday Carole: Carole King

Carole King has certainly made a name for herself within the music industry – part of why I’m so excited to see her releasing some tracks with her own voice instead of lyrics for others to sing. This album features lots of favorites, including My Favorite Things and Carol of the Bells, as well as several tunes you may not be familiar with. If you love Tapestry, you’ll love this album as well. The album will be released on November 1st.

Under the Mistletoe: Justin Beiber

This album has been the talk of the town for ages – mainly because Justin Beiber’s people were brilliant enough to release just one sample track to some major radio stations. The buzz about this album has been outrageous and the general reaction is one of pleasant surprise. Apparently Justin Beiber has the ability to break away from bubble gum pop and can really churn out some classics like the old pros. Even those who are tired of hearing their kids sing Bieber tunes may be amazed.

Christmas Symphony: Mannheim Steamroller

No holiday collection is complete without the newest release for Mannheim Steamroller. Not familiar with this stellar group? You will recognize their tunes as the background to many famous holiday videos – namely the ones with holiday house lights flashing to the rhythm. This year you’ll enjoy new renditions of Deck the Halls, Greensleeves, Little Drummer Boy, and tons of other favorites.

Christmas: Michael Buble

This Canadian artist has certainly made a name for himself and he’s not letting the holiday season slow him down. He said in an interview that he’s always dreamed of recording the “ultimate Christmas record” and it seems he’s done just that. I already have a copy of this album on my shelf and all I can say is that I may just end up listening to Michael’s renditions of It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, All I want for Christmas is You, and White Christmas throughout the entire year.

The Ultimate Christmas Album: Dave Koz

If jazz is your thing, than this album by Dave Koz is one you simply must not miss. Relax, light some candles, make a romantic dinner to enjoy with someone you love, and enjoy the holiday season with some of the sweetest saxophone vibes you’ve heard in ages.

Don’t let me sway your decision. There are dozens of other hot holiday albums coming out this year. All I can say, though, is that none of these will disappoint you. I promise!

Setsuko Shulda loves holiday music and if you walk into your office you’ll hear it playing for the next 2 months straight. When not engrossed in tunes, Setsuko works hard to find jobs for physical therapists in her region.

It’s never really too early to start planning your New Year’s Even celebration – especially if you’re the kind of person who loves to ring in the New Year in style. While you may just be thinking about your party plans, the folks in Las Vegas have been planning for months. This year’s line-up of New Year’s Eve concerts is absolutely stellar and air fare to this glittering city is generally pretty reasonable. I’m loving the schedule of shows and you will, too. Here’s a glimpse of what’s on tap.

Heading to Fremont Street

While you’ll find a ton of exciting events happening with the casinos on the strip, the heart of the party will be on Fremont Street at what is known as the Fremont Street Experience. The events on Fremont street begin a little after 6pm and will continue up until midnight. While the concerts are awesome, there are a few things you should know about the 3-stage event.

First of all, you must be at least 21 years old to attend the Fremont Street Experience. There are no exceptions to this rule, so you’ll need to make other plans for your children, teens, and young adult friends. While admission is generally $20, those who live in the state of Nevada and can present ID will only be charged $10. All of the performers are tribute bands, but each one is dedicated to a specific artist.

The artists who perform in Las Vegas are pretty convincing, so even though you won’t necessarily see your favorite performers, you’ll have a hard time telling the difference. On the 1st Street stage you’ll find Rocking the Paradise, Fan Halen, Rolling The Stone, and QueenNation. On the 3rd Street stage you’ll find Heart Alive 3, Bonfine, Led Zepagain, and Aeromyth. On the Main Street Stage you’ll find 40oz. To Freedom, No-Duh, Red Not Chili Peppers, and Green Date. There will be fireworks under the canopy at the end of each stage’s set as the group rings in the new year with more music and dancing.

Las Vegas Survival Tips for the New Year

Don’t do what I did and go to Las Vegas unprepared for a true party atmosphere. The strip can become very crowded and very loud. Most of the people are good-intentioned but the combination of alcohol and a party atmosphere can lead some people to become a little rowdy. Be on guard at all times. Park as close to your party location as you possibly can and don’t expect to get away from the strip until well after midnight. Dress warm and prepare for a long night of incredible fun!

The New Year’s celebrations in Las Vegas are a ton of fun, whether you’re on Fremont Street or somewhere else on the strip. Be safe and have a great time!

Ophelia Okino loves traveling and ringing in each New Year with as much excitement as possible. She currently works with unemployed technology specialists and frequently recommends IT recruiting services to those looking for work in this incredibly tough economy.

How often do you go out to eat at restaurants? Some people prefer to go out a lot, while others choose to stay home and make their own meals. Whichever the case may be, the fact is that the average person spends some time in the kitchen preparing his or her own meals. This is especially true for people who have a family to take care of.

Fortunately, cooking is becoming more and more a popular activity. Thanks to the “celebrification” of cooking, people are seeing it as a cool and fun thing to do. From the television to magazines to web sites, it is a very common thing to see chefs who have become celebrities on their own right. Accordingly, people look to these sources for their own ideas of what to create in their kitchens.

With the trend of people using the Internet as the go-to resource, it is not surprising that recipe web sites and portals are enjoying a boom these days. There are tons of web sites that offer countless recipes to be tried out in the comforts of your own home, and here is one that will catch your attention for sure.

Recipe Finder is a new search engine which offers more than a million recipes. Yup, imagine having over a million recipes at your fingertips! No need to remember all those different web sites – you need only one and you can easily search for recipes any time.

Searching for recipes on Recipe Finder is an easy thing. It’s similar to any search engine; just type the name of the recipe you are looking for. Alternatively, you can use the ingredient search function, which allows you to include or exclude ingredients in a search. For more specific results, you can indicate other parameters such as cook time, calorie count, and the number of servings.

Additional features of Recipe Finder includes the menu and calendar. Using these features, you can plan entire meals and save the details. From the appetizer to the main courses to the dessert (or desserts!) – you simply have to check your saved data come crunch time.
Now some recipes are simply too awesome not to share with your friends and family. This is why Recipe Finder makes sure that you have the tools to share recipes that you like. With a single click, you can choose to share a recipe on some of the most popular social sharing sites. And of course, old school is not to be forgotten. Recipe Finder has the print option for those who like their recipes on paper.

Tech lover? You probably have an iPad or an iPad2. You’ll be thrilled to know that there is an app for Recipe Finder. With this app, you can go wherever you want to go and still check recipes when necessary.

Recipe Finder is indeed one of the most useful tools you can have to help you cook up a storm!

Brooklyn, New York band The Drums is set to release their sophomore album, Portamento, on September 12.

The Drums has wowed audiences from the moment they released their first songs – soaring guitars punctuated by droning, groovy bass on a lo-fi platform. The Drums’ starkness is a great counterpoint to how absolutely catchy their grooves are. I dare you to listen to I Wanna Go Surfing without imitating that infectious whistling they use to great effect. This is a band that has man-sized confidence in their music even if they’re just going to be two albums’ old.

Portamento offers more of the memorable, infectious grooves The Drums seem to produce with ease. But here’s the deal – instead of building up on the more pop-sugary gems in their debut album, which would’ve been the obvious move, they did the unexpected and made an album that built on the darker undertones that were explored in some of their songs off their debut – songs like Best Friend and Down By The Water. The result is an album that has a prevailing feeling of sadness even in songs that are actually upbeat like the first single, Money, which contains the lyrics “I wanna buy you something but I don’t have any money” — A perfect sentiment in these economically trying times. It’s a song that carries the distinct Drums lightness but, as I’ve previously mentioned, there is a barely contained melancholy that creeps in and out of the song.

Portamento is definitely going to be in a lot of lists for the best albums of 2011.

And we’ve had the mastered versions of The Beatles‘ catalog for a while now.

My recession-hit pockets can only afford to buy five albums right now — Revolver, The White Album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Rubber Soul and Abbey Road. But let me tell you these are all worth the price.

The remastering of the albums are superb. The quality is top notch and there is a clarity to the new release that makes you appreciate the songs more. It also reveals new elements and details to the songs that, in most cases, makes you feel that you’re listening to the song for the first time. I won’t even try to rave about the packaging of the digipacks. The pictures are beautiful and the liner notes reveal new information and details that, for a Beatles fan like me, is just a joy to read.

My next project — The Beatles in Mono box set.
