Cette semaine à Milan, les couleurs de l'Afrique sont à l'honneur chez Moroso. Fusion de teintes et de motifs, plastiques tressés, effusion de tissus hauts en couleurs, cette S-U-P-E-R-B-E collection, produite en Afrique par des artisans locaux, a été imaginée par de grands artistes africains tels que Fathi Hassan, Soly Cisse, Bibi Seck et Ayse Birsel ou par l'architecte David Adjaye, mais également par des designers européen comme Stephen Burks, Patricia Urquiola et Philippe Bestenheider. De quoi égayer notre printemps français plutôt maussade... (5°+pluie..)

Charcoal pile table by Thomas Walde

Oiled oak pieces in a circle form the base of this simple living room glass table, held together without glue due to the «wood welding» process used in its production. Its shape is reminiscent of charcoal burning and symbolises a charcoal pile where pieces of wood are stacked conically around a stake. The work takes as its central theme this precursor of oil and stimulates thinking about the future. Materials: Oak, glass Size: 25x70cm Bivano – seat for two by Claudia Heiniger

The couch Bivano is a solution for all those people who don’t dispose of a lot of space in their apartments since it uses very little material and space.
The frame is made of multilayer boards. The individual pieces can be taken from only one board in an efficient way and this allows to reduce the consumption of material already in the cutting phase. The stringing with elastic belts creates a very comfortable albeit materially reduced seating space, which adapts slightly to the body when seated. The printed felt belts allegorically stand for the cushioning which is completely absent in Bivano.
The conscious use of material and the corresponding design are an answer to the post fossil era. Whilst seated on Bivano you can comfortably talk about the current times. Materials: Frame: plywood, iron Covering: elastic straps, wool felt

JWC - Just Wood Chair by Florian Hauswirth

A chair made only of wood. This chair consists exclusively of wood, without glue. The joints are made with a new wood-joining technique, the ‘rotation dowel welding’ technique. The heat generated by placing the dowels releases adhesives present in the wood itself – lignin and hemicellulose – forming a substantial welded bond in seconds.
In association with Sebastian Kraft from the Biel School for Wood Technology (BFH –AHB) this new kind of chair was produced.The chair was designed with the technique in mind. The overlaps required for the welded bonds and the wing-like construction are characteristic features of the ‘JWC’ lounge chair.

Loppa (envelope) by Florian Hauswirth

A postfossil lamp, inspired by envelopes. The lamp surrounds a bulb like an envelope encloses a letter.
The material (paper) is folded into a robust structure. The flaps are folded upwards, one side moistened before both are joined together.
These connecting ribs give the filigree lampshade its stability. Paper reflects the light, but also allows it to shines through slightly.
An energy saving bulb is used as illumination. This type of bulb, which will soon become standard in the future,
generates a beneficially lower amount of heat. Its original flat shape allows easy transport. Material: Paper, natural glue

Plymet stool, A stool folded by hand by Florian Hauswirth

A stool or side table easily folded into shape from a flat form.
The cut form, with holes at the ends of the slits, allows it to be bent in a controlled manner.
The trianular shape of the stool gives it its stabilty. When folded, the narrow slits act as handles. Material: anodised aluminium

Standing and Pendant lights Sabooh and Mitsu by Anna Blattert + Daniel Gafner

The lamps Sabooh and Mitsu are showing that energy saving LED technology can also be used in the home. Inspired by oriental lanterns, the translucent porcelain shades give off a warm, indirect light. The golden decoration on the inside of the shade serves as a reflector, as well as a conductor from cable to bulb. The base of the standing lamp with its octagonal profile, made of durable oak, holds the shade in the correct position thanks to its outstretched arm. The pendant light is surprising in its simplicity. The ceiling serves as a point of support for the boom.
By slightly pulling the hanging cable the shade can be swung through 360°. The shades Sabooh and Mitsu are hung over the stand and the boom like lanterns and can be easily exchanged with each other and hung or lay in any other position. The rather flat shade Mitsu radiates light more widely and is ideal as a hanging light over a dining table or as general room light. The high shade Sabooh throws the light more directly and is therefore especially well suited as a reading light. Materials Shade: porcelain with gold application Base: oak

Fireside companion set Souffleur Ramón by Christine Birkhoven

The fireside companion set Souffleur Ramón comprises a bellows and a firewood basket, both of wood and leather.
A bellows is not only a beautiful object with a homely character, but also a reflection of the energy needed to kindle a fire. It invites one to take time to make a really good fire that produces a good heat.
Bellows have long been disappearing into obscurity, either because of modern heating technology or because today there are supposedly quicker methods of ignition (such as firelighters). However, firelighters are often unhealthy and environmentally unfriendly.
This new design breathes new life into the bellows and shows that Souffleur Ramón is not only a more attractive way to kindle a fire, but is also environmentally friendly and saves resources. Materials: wenge wood, leather, and stainless steel.

The young designers achieve this by examining and re-assessing the use of day-to-day objects. Their objects are involved in daily life, attract attention and demand reconsideration of their usual treatment. It is subtle criticism in detail, drawing out the issue of a sustainable treatment of resources. The designers of the platform POSTFOSSIL would like to start an active debate on the responsible treatment of our depleting resources. This is just the first stage of their mission to change the views and opinions of how we as a society live our lives in the descent toward a post-fossil age."

RE_LOVE / CLOTHES

"Most clothes and chairs used in the past were collected bythe artists and other relevant parties. It was designed based on a new method using objectsin which memories remain and original function gone.The discarded chair once again becomes a comfortable sofa with clothes on top. Clothes are what enable the chairt to play its part. This is also understood as one’s own past. As clothes are tangled, memories can be tied up to create a new love."

'RE_LOVE' was created in two processes of work under the same title. For these processes, we collected old furniture and clothes etc, which we actually used, and we intend to propose method to love these things again. To love the things again means to add another function to them. To love the things again here needs be distinguished from recycling. Though the old and ragged chair in my room will gradually lose a great deal of its original function, it will hold prevalent value over other new ones through the time and space shared with me.This chair may carry an image of myself on it, stretching leg to the floor, or elaborately cherish a reminiscence of a time when I conversed with someone. Sharing of such time and memory is also a matter of intimacy between me and the thing. However, regrettably enough, we repeatedly replace the thing for a new 'goods' unconsciously in pursuit of the 'function' it provides. The relationship between a thing and people should be understood as an expression of 'self love' on oneself as a result rather than personifying a thing. The intention is that the act of loving a thing again is engraved as love of one self about the time and space, and such love be proposed as methodology through 'RE_LOVE'.

Niché dans le quartier parisien du Marais, l'appartement de la créatrice Vanessa Bruno est à l'image de ses vêtements: délicats, féminins et modernes. Teintes pastel rehaussées de blanc, bois clairs du mobilier scandinave des années 50 ... De quoi me ravir ! J'ai bien entendu un faible pour le fauteuil AA Butterfly et l'étonnant canapé Poeten du Danois Finn Juhl.

A skateboarder's Dream House

Aahh ... The West Coast and Frisco ... Beautiful memories as I spent some of my teenage years there ...

Have a look at this great place, I love it : Jay Shapiro, a skateboarder and musician, and Claire Bigbie, an interior designer, turned a Victorian in San Francisco's Noe Valley into a skater’s dream house. The couple met 10 years ago at a skate park in Rhode Island; they bought their house for $1 million in 2005.

A dressing room has wallpaper by Tom Dixon, a plastic chandelier from Urban Outfitters and a taxidermy deer
named Harry. Ms. Bigbie — who had been collecting furniture since she was 14 — has filled the house with vintage and contemporary pieces.

A bathroom designed to look like a pool, with depth marks and pool coping,
reminds its owners of the skateboarder’s nirvana: an empty pool.

Ms. Bigbie painted the mantel in the bedroom Benjamin Moore’s Pool Party Blue;
the Hella Jongerius vases on it are from Ikea.

Artwork by Ms. Bigbie and Mr. Shapiro’s friends hangs in the kitchen;
the paper on the wall at right is Angles, by Erica Wakerly.

The blue-black exterior paint was custom mixed by the architect, Douglas Burnham, to play down the Victorian embellishments. The ground-floor studio has a rolling garage door that opens to a garden designed by Flora Grubb, with “a Palm Springs desert vibe,” Ms. Bigbie said, and succulents in big pots.

A black laboratory sink Ms. Bigbie found at a salvage yard was fitted with
customized faucets; that red is Million Dollar Red by Benjamin Moore.

PACK OF DOGS 1 & 2

Introduced at the 2007 Salone Satelite in Milan, these pieces are based roughly on the shape of a dog, in different sizes and positions. These characters, named after famous Mexican wrestlers (Dos caras Jr, Aguayo, Superastro, El Santo, Alushe and Mistico) may work as a side table, stool, bench, bookshelf, magazine rack, newspaper holder, bookends, etc.

The pieces are made in different materials (ceramic or wood by way of traditional woodworking techniques using scraps of solid wood such as tzalam, ash, red oak, poplar, alder, walnut, and pine).Through the combination and size of the pieces used each piece is given a unique character !

Global Warming contrasts the comfort and softness of a rug with a thorny problem that is specific to our time. Following the age-old tradition of using rugs as a means for communication and a cultural record, NEL is portraying global warming in a scene that invites us to reflect on our impact on today’s world. The rug is manufactured by the Spanish rug and carpet company Nanimarquina.

Je suis toujours en admiration devant les créations architecturales et l'esthétisme australiens. Voici encore une étonnante maison située à Melbourne (je vais devoir finir par réserver un billet pour rendre visite à mon amie Annabelle qui habite là-bas.. ), La Trojan House imaginée par Jackson Clements Burrows. Son architecture, aussi remarquable à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur, a été minutieusement étudiée pour respecter l'environnement.

I was in Paris this weekend and had a walk through the very cool Conran Shop in the 7ème arrondissement. Absolutely loved the Karmacoma sofa and the modernistic folklore Donut pouf designed by Dutch designer Edward van Vliet for Moroso : a beautiful and romantic patchwork of colours and patterned upholsteries . Delicious ! So instead of walking out of the shop with a sofa (which is a bit over of my budget) I decided to have take-away sushis (cheaper)..
