One of our favorite times of the year when we get to see our reggae stars shine in their moment of Grammy glory (at least the one who eventually wins that category) is once again upon us. The 2012 Grammy nominees were announced on Wednesday November 30, 2011. If the albums selected to be included in Best Reggae Album category for 2012 is indicative of where reggae music is today, then reggae music, my friends, is in trouble. I will even dare to predict that that category, will eventually, disappear from the Grammy Awards. The field of reggae artists may be plentiful but the music they produce lack creativity or originality. So what we are left with are a few “good” albums from just a few reggae artists. The 19th Annual 9 Mile Music Festival is just around the corner, formerly the Bob Marley Caribbean Music Festival, celebrating the life and legacy of the “king” of reggae music. Despite the name change, this still remains the longest running reggae show and food drive in South Florida and the ultimate reggae event you can’t afford to miss. The event will be at a new location next year at the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in Miami. I’m unsure of the reason, but I will take a wild guess and presume it has to do with the tunnel construction to the port of Miami that will be taking place in and around that vicinity. That definitely would cause some sort of logistical nightmare. I must say the lineup for next year looks incredible so far : Live performances by: Stephen Marley, Damian Marley, Julian Marley, Burning Spear, Capleton, Cocoa Tea, Tarrus Riley, Collie Buddz & New Kingston, Kevens and more! As usual four canned goods are required as part of the admission and will be donated to those in need throughout South Florida.
