RNs who hold an Associates degree are staffed at hospitals, homehealth, hospice, clinics, doctors office dialysis centers, and many other places. For the most part, RNs are usually working in hospitals. When patients enter into the hospital, they have a care plan that has to be implemented once that it is done the care plan is reviewed for an outcome.

Every hospital is different but for the most part RNs are responsible for implementing doctors' orders administering medications. communicating with doctors and other disciplines for example phyiscal therapy, nutritionist, and others. Also we work with a nursing assisant most of the time that will take vital signs and report abnormal results. we are responsible for the continued stability of the patient if there is anything out of the normal the doctor is called and he makes the decision if he wants to make any changes.

So far as medications we can only administer what the doctor has ordered for that patient. if pain medication is not effective or if additional medication is needed the doctor always make the changes. if the patient starts to crash or code nursed have been trained to sustain the patient if at all possiple until the response team arrive. In nursing, we are certified in different areas in order to work specific areas such as telemetry , you will be trained on how to read strips. surgical we will be trained on how to take care of patients after surgery.

For patients recieving chemo therapy nurses will be certified to administer the medication for chemo and radiation therapy. For each type of nursing you choose, you are always trained. you should never be thrown out to the wolves without proper training. what you learn in school with theory and clinicals it is applied to your job. Essential Functions of Position
Include instructional responsibilities for registered nursing program as assigned, including preparation for and instruction of theory classes and hospital clinical laboratory experiences and taking lead or team member responsibility in designated clinical settings. As faculty the person is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating or modifying curriculum within the Department of Nursing. Able to work well in a diversity of settings (pediatric, psychiatric, perinatal and medical-surgical) with an ability to work well with diverse, racial, ethnic, gender, disabled and cultural populations. As faculty the person must be able to objectively evaluate student performance in theory as well as clinical classes. Instructor must be able to communicate effectively with students, patients, families, health caregivers and peers. This position requires flexibility in work assignments including summers, evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
Include approval by the Board of Registered Nursing of the following: State of California license as a registered nurse; a master’s degree or higher in nursing, education, public health administration or health administration from an accredited college or university; at least one year continuous full-time experience in direct patient care practice as a registered nurse within the past five years and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Salary and Benefits
Starting salary is $51,992 - $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance as well as disability coverage for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Now that California's two higher education systems have been allowed to offer a doctorate in Nursing, the shortage facing California's hospitals and the rest of the nation may come to an end. To be fair, only a few CSU universities were offering doctorate in nursing. If there are more teachers with a doctorate, more nursing classes can be offered. And registered nurses can further their studies.

For example, Fresno State is planning on adding a doctorate to prepare future nursing educators to meet the needs for nursing classes.

Valley students can not wait for this new development. According to sources close to the university, the program may be launched in 2011.

In the meantime, our nursing needs are being met by traveling nurses and immigrant nurses. Go to any of our national hospitals, you are sure to find nurses from many foreign countries. Canadian nurses have been crossing over for a long time. You are sure to find many Caribbean, South and Central American nurses, African and Asian (philipino) nurses. Many of these foreign nurses come from many English-speaking countries. They have been doing a great job. Without them, we do not know where we would be. Even with the current focus on training local talent, the needs for foreign nurses will continue strongly for a long time.

It is time to train our local youth to get some of these jobs.

Various studies show that most western doctors are not trained or do not the incentives to prescribe exercise to their patients. Yet, they should regularly prescribe it as a way to lower blood pressure and prevent heart disease and diabetes, according to the American Heart Association on Monday June 23, 2003. Exercise often works well as drugs, yet doctors fail to advise patients to get off their sofas and walk, cycle or run, the group said, citing data from 44 different studies.

The American Heart Association and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among other groups, recommend 30 minutes or more of the moderate exercise such as brisk walking on most or all days of the week. One problem is that doctors are not trained in preventing disease, but only in treating it, said the director of preventive cardiology and cardiovascular research at Hartford Hospital in connecticut, who led the study leading to this report. "That is not the whole story here because a lot of stuff we are talking about here is not about prevention -it is about sick patients and making people feel better.

Doctors do not urge exercise because they are not reimbursed by insurers for exercise training. And drug companies spend millions to promote medicines and train doctors in their use, but no one does the same thing for exercise." Physicians can help patients improve cholesterol levels and blood pressure just by prescribing an exercise regimen.

After a decade of steady growth, the economic crisis has led to a spike in applications across all California community colleges. In September and October — one-third of the application period for the spring semester — the number of applicants who made a community college their first choice was already more than 20 percent greater than all of last year. In some fields, like health services, the growth has been even more rapid, as much as 40 percent on some campuses.

Knowing that California is facing a budget issue, interested parties are asking where they will find money to continue to offer these classes.

The RN Shift Supervisor assists the Administrator in providing direction in the development and evaluation of nursing personnel, and in maintaining operations of the patient care unit. Prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care acting as resource for clinical issues involving the plan of care. Contributes to nursing and facilities mission through support of philosophy and objectives, educational efforts and research efforts. He/she performs as a peer role model for professional behavior and in demonstrating superior expertise in the delivery of nursing care, and oversight of all functions of the department during assigned shift. Performs other duties as required.

Shift time: NOC

The License Vocational Nurse job duties vary with employer and specialty but can be expected to include taking blood pressure and pulse rates, preparing and administering certain medications, giving injections, reporting adverse reactions to treatments, and monitoring patients. In addition, vocational nurses monitor catheters, give alcohol rubs and massages, apply ice packs, dressings, compresses, and hot water bottles, treat bedsores, maintain patient records and may be assigned various other tasks by the supervising nurse or doctor.

U.S. News & World Report has named five California hospitals as being among the nation's best in the magazine's first ranking of children's hospitals by specialty.

The magazine is highlighting the 30 top-ranked hospitals in cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery, neonatal care, neurology and neurosurgery, and respiratory disorders.

California has three facilities that make the list: Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and UCSF Children's Hospital. They made the top 30 in all seven categories. As far as Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA is concerned, it made the top 30 in five categories: general pediatrics, cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery and neurology and neurosurgery. Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego was among the top 30 in neonatal care.

Description
The Director of Pharmacy Standards for Applied Clinical Informatics is responsible for the Project planning, daily oversight of integration of Pharmacy informatics into clinical operations within the organization . Effective communication skills required to ensure clear understanding across all levels and entities involved, associated or vested in the project. Responsibilities include:
Ensure operational processes are integrated into the implementation of Pharmacy clinical systems within the facilities.
Ensure standardization of clinical applications following prescribed Tenet standards.
Collaborate with departments and with facilities in a manner providing increased operational effectiveness and satisfaction.
Develop effective working relationships between vendors, clinical quality staff, clinical informatics staff and Tenet facilities.Qualifications
Graduate of accredited pharmacy program. Bachelors degree preferred.
3-5 years Pharmacy Clinical Experience with progressive responsibilities in operations.
Experience in the utilization, management and implementation of informatics systems preferred.
Good leadership and management skills are required. Candidate must have a high level of self motivation, be a self starter and have the ability to multitask and work independently.
Candidate must have substantial knowledge of hospital clinical operations and management practices.
Candidate must have good managerial and organizational skills, be diplomatic, excel at conflict resolution and have the ability to work within a heavily matrixed organization.
A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible related experience in operations.
