Missing your default packs/library/presets? Can't repair the Library? Do this:

in regards to missing libraries - go to preferences - this will bring up a page - select change library location (this has to be a valid location on ur pc). then once u have done that select "install library". this will take a while as the library is huge. Once u have done that it will work and u can then select library instruments and they will be there for you. hope this has helped.

Graves fallas del CONACYT

La verdad es que para los que hemos sido becados no es un mal apoyo en lo mas minimo! De hecho es muy bueno EN TEORIA.

PERO!

La burocracia de la insucion es ALTAMENTE INEFICIENE y es increible que sigan los mismos encargados en todas las areas luego de los muchos retrasos AÑO CON AÑO que me imagino que en muchas ocaciones hacen imposible siquiera utilizar los recursos ya que primero hay que encontrar la forma de financiarse 3 o 4 meses en lo que al ESTIMADO SAMUEL MANTEROLA se le ocurre agendar el pago de la colegiatura!!!

En mi caso, el retraso de CASI 4 MESES de 2010 me costó caros INTERESES$$$ de un préstamo que tuve que usar para financiarme en el proceso... Francamente el CONACYT no está cumpliendo con sus supuestos compromisos y el perdedor de eso (además de mi) va a ser México porque los becarios tampoco se van a sentir en obligación de regresar al país (o cunmplir sus otros compromisos) si pueden evitarlo.

Algunas noticias sobre los retrasos del CONACYT:
2008 Sin explicación, el Conacyt retrasa pagos a becarios
2009 Conacyt: ya se hizo el depósito a becarios; justifica el retraso del pago
2010 Sin explicación, el Conacyt retrasa pagos a becarios
falta la del 2011 pero ya viene...

Habra alguna tranza por aqui? Espero que no sea el caso pero francamente no estaria mal investigar al respecto y tal vez denunciar esta situacion con alguna autoridad relevante o hablar con abogados. Claro, al no vivir en el país es dificil meterse en esos conflictos y finalmente todo resulta muy conveniente para facilitar que NO PASE NADA si el CONACYT no paga... Exhorto a los becarios nacionales a comenzar una oranización estudiantil al respecto.

Si el CONACYT se te retraso en pagos o no te contestan email o llamadas ponte en contacto conmigo dejando un comentario aqui y empecemos a formar un grupo. Para defender nuestros derechos y los de los futuros becarios.

En vez de hack, jailbreak es el anglicismo más apropiado para referirse a liberar un iPhone de las restricciones que de fábrica le ha impuesto Apple. Ve a las descargas y sáltate el rollo.

Las mayores ventajas de hacerlo son: 1) es la única forma conocida para desbloquearlo (ese es otro proceso SEPARADO, para cambiar de compañía de telefonía, del que hablo más adelante); 2) permite usar Cydia que es una aplicación parecido al AppStore y la cuál puede instalar en el dispositivo software no aprobado por Apple (por ejemplo un app que permite hacer tethering ¨para usar el teléfono como modem de Internet - también descrito a más detalle más adelante).
La mayor desventaja, además de que es algo difícil lograrlo, es que si actualizamos un iPhone "liberado" (hackeado) con iTunes, se vuelve al estado restringido. Adicionalmente es posible que se pierdan las notificaciones (servicio PUSH) y YouTube aunque esto puede ser arreglado poseriormente.

Explicación

Pero primero intentaré desenredar la confusa terminología en inglés y separar las varias cosas que queremos lograr con un iPhone que está jailbreak-eado. Lo más importante es entender que jailbreaking, desbloquear (unblocking), y tethering son cosas DIFERENTES que simplemente están ligadas pero que se deben hacer una por una.

Jailbreak significa liberar (de una carcel). Y la forma más fácil de hacerlo es "cocinando" actualizaciones de software personalizadas con herramientas como PwnageTool o RedSn0w en MacOS y Sn0wbreeze en Windows.
Desbloquear significa, como muchos ya saben, permitir que el teléfono funcione con cualquier tarjeta SIM (card) de un operador de telefonía celular GSM. En algunos países no hay muchas opciones (ej. Telcel en México) ¡pero en otros sí! En EUA fue un gran tema hace poco porque oficialmente solo se puede tener iPhone con AT&T, y recientemente también Verizon. Se puede lograr con programa llamado ultrasn0w que se instala desde Cydia directamente en el dispositivo liberado.
Tether significa atar (amarrar) y se refiere a establecer un vínculo entre el dispositivo, que se puede conectar a Internet por medio del servicio telefónico (o en este caso de datos, suponiendo que está contratado), y una computadora personal. En resumen usar el iPhone como un modem ya sea conectado por USB o hasta inalámbrico por Wi-Fi-Bluetooth. Hacer esto está estrictamente prohibido en la gran mayoría de los contratos de telefonía celular ¡pero a quién le importa! ¿Por qué pagar 2 servicios de Internet? NOTA: 3G suele ser bastante más lento que una conección a Internet residencial común ya sea DSL, cable, satélite, o lo que sea, pero ya viene 4G...

Some diet planning is necessary to be sure about nutritive vegan diets... "Complete" proteins and specific vitamins are some of the main challenges to face. Vitamin supplements are not rare for vegans either, after all they can't harm you.

Do I get the nutrients I need from a Vegan/Vegetarian Diet?

Yep. But how about the people who are lactose intolerant (many Latin-Americans like myself - I recommend almond milk BTW) or have conditions such as gastritis or colitis, or even food allergies? Well true vegans don't include any animal byproduct in their diet anyhow and they can get the nutrients. But as for people who can't really eat grains (they produce gas), tofu, soy or gluten for other problems, maybe a more flexetarian diet bay be in order.

In general people don't need animal products to have a full nutrition, although some of these products and sometimes meat do make things easier. However animal consumerism is completely out of control! We certainly don't need THAT MUCH meat/eggs/milk/cheese/butter/etc... They're just part of our food cultures by now. But that will change gradually.

I recommend looking into Indian and vegetarian Chinese food for beginners in America/Europe mostly. The Mediterranean diet is also very rich in oil and grains, among other veggie goodies and a few tweaks can turn it into a great vegan style.

*Use straight lines as much as possible - to runway start points, all of the aircrafts can do close angle turns! We all know that straight lines are the shortest (ant thus fastest) paths from a point to another [Tell that to Quantic Physicists]
* "Fast dodges slow" - Faster planes see other vehicles almost as rocks to get around, don't bother drawing paths to avoid faster aircrafts because its much harder to predict where they'll be.

This might possibly work for other Windows versions.
I finally found the solution to the crappy start menu taking forever to load submenus! Thank you Phancy who pointed out to this solution in http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/very-slow-start-menu-please-help/20993.html#10. You're a genious!

Simply delete EVERY F***N desktop.ini file in ALL start menus that affect you (wait there's more than 1? Yes, the beautiful complications of Microsoft developments). HOW? It can get tricky if you're a novice user, here the step-by-step guide:

0. You should know Windows (XP at least) keeps your start menu in the C:\Documents and Settings\[Username] foder. "C" can change depending on which drive letter is assigned to the drive or partition from where Windows is running. Obviously, [Username] is to be changed by YOUR user name, ie "Patrick" (shold be your Windows screen name used at the home screen if you use that. BUT there's also an "All Users" folder in here that ALSO affects you (and all users) so make sure to apply these changes to both these folders.

1. Go into the User folder (do this twice [at least], for "All Users" and for you [Username] folder) and locate the "Start Menu" folder. eg C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

*Ahh theres yet another trick, the desktop.ini files we're after are hidden! To show these files go into the "Folder Options..." entry in the "Tools" menu in the explorer window, then chose the "View" tab and find the "Hidden files and folders" branch in the advanced settins list. Make sure the "Show all hidden files and folders" option is checked.

2. You have to browse manually the whole tree-structure of the "Start Menu" folder (meaning go into every possible subfolder systematicaly) and delete the translucent "desktop.ini" files!

That should do it. Enjoy a fast-loading start menu again :)

Installing Arch Linux on a Virtual Box (vs MS Virtual Machine 2007)

I wanted a simple way to run Linux on my Windows XP machine. I don't love Windows but I'm used to it and it does have some advantages, however that's not the point. At some time in one's career in IT one needs Linux (possibly to learn POSIX OS) and Cygwin doesn't quite cut it, especially if one has not much previous Linux experience...

Few Resources ?

I only have 1GB RAM and a few GB left on my HD so a light Linux is indeed in order for my situation. So I wanted a Linux distro with no GUI or visual Desktop Environment - it figures, since true Linux power comes in the shell "command-line" terminal - , and as well documented and easy to install as possible. Thus ArchLinux (which has a guide to install, plus a beguinners guide which walkes you through the install and setup processes and explains basic Linux workings) and its precompiled binary distribution for i686 resulted optimal from my PoV. Fianlly and accounting for the need of simplicity, pacman, the package manager program that comes with Arch (similar to apt-get [Debian, Ubuntu], yum [Fedora], or zypper [openSUSE]) installs many binaries officially supported by archlinux.org and the Arch community.

MS VM 2007 vs VBox

I originally setup a 512MB RAM "Other OS" VM on MSVM07 which can be downloaded free from MS. It worked and all but its slower than VBox, and it freezes sometimes beyond hope of state-recovery. The only advantage of MS Virtual Machine 2007 is native text copy-paste into the Linux terminal. I don't undersand why VBox doesn't have it... However, a very basic feature: audio, did not work for me.

*NOTE: When installing a virtual machine, the hardware it detects is whatever the host program (ie MSVM or VBox) exposes to it. These 2 programs in question have virtual hardware which shuold work with generic Linux drivers. For example, worrying about WiFi is unnecessary since the net adapter exposed by the hosts acts as a physical cable even if you're actually connected through your air port. Sound and Video should work out-of-the-box in that case! 3D video acceleration may be an exception.

My Virtual Box (non-commercial licence but not the OSE edition) "Arch-Linux" machine with the same amount of RAM may sometimes die due to insuficcient RAM but the state gets saved automatucally and the program warns about it. VBox has many more features than VM in terms of customizing your virtual computer, sound works for me, plus its Guest Additions are available for Linux (and also for Arch in its [community] package repositories). MSVM is out of the competition at this point.

Arch Install Notes

There's 2 ways to install Arch (download here), get a 400MB+ iso image with all the basic packages or a 160MB net-install iso to download all the packages during the install process. The netinstall failed once for me when I left the VBox inactive for a while, something went wrong mounting the linux setup files (/etc). Then again it could possibly happen to the full installer I assume. The advantage of a net install is, despite being slower and depending on an active Internet connection, that you automatically get the newest packages from the online repos, plus you'll have them in the pacman cache in case you need to downgrade later. Full install CDs normally come with slightly old package databases and no pkg cache remains from those original install pacs.

Things you may want to do after installing:

World in Conflict Patches and CD Security bypass

World in Conflict has been one of the best recent stategy war games in the last years. I love the camera movement specially, although it takes some time to master.

Anyway, I got a (try-before-you-buy) version from thepiratebay [I recommend uTorrent as torrent client]. I only downloaded the original WiC 1.0 without Soviet Attack, but these files work for the expansion as well.

1. You´ll need the crack / fix to bypass SecuROM (flt-wic rar file) in either case. If you installed Wic + SA all-in-one skip to 4.

2. Then apply the 1st patch (get it from somewhere else [this is an official game release patch]) to the installation

3. Proceed to install Soviet Attack (the expansion)

4. Apply 2nd game patch (get it elsewhere)

Pickling a function defined interactively in Ipython doesn't work

Ipython's __main__ module is a "FakeModule" the ipython developers created to fix some bugs early in the otherwise very very useful package. So don't be scared if your user-defined top level (__main__) functions can't be pickled in ipython, the code will work when pickling other top lever module functions, only not the ones in __main__ defined interactively. OR simpy use the plain old python interactive console from command line.

Just a short comment this time

The USA (the "stolen" goal), Mexico (vs Argentina - the ultra clear unmarked off-side), England (vs Germany - another stolen goal!), and Portugal (vs Spain - the WTF red card) all suffered from the worst FIFA referees in years...

I think in neither case was the poor refereeing decisions decisive for the matches’ final results (except probably with the USA) but taking morals into consideration they might very well have been. ..Mexico and England most notably, lost their patience soon in the game and ended up being trampled upon... And maybe, just maybe, that extra man lost to Portugal could have produced a tie.

Whatever... FU FIFA!!!

PS: Plus the damn FIFA official site videos are mega-slow to load, tonight they're not even working! Lets not buy their products, such as the following games:

PyDev SQL Alchemy: Unresolved variable from import

Does anyone know how to make PyDev builder in Eclipse (does it use ant? anyway) recognize sqllchemy's improvements? For example:

I have a model where I declare a table variable, a Table class, I map them together, and noy any t=Table() will have variables and methods such as query and delete() ... However the IDE will mark those as "Unresolved variable from import" ... Kindda nagging me a bit.

If you don't see the Remote Media element in your Media Library, if it simply doesn't show... U're probably swearing and cursing Winamp, naturally. Where the hell is Remote Media?!?!

To make it appear, however, simply download this file [ml_orb.dll] and copy it in your Winamp Plugins folder! (i.e. C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins)

Next time you open Winamp you'll see the Remote Media link. As you see this is completely separate from the Winamp Remote installation.

I can't believe noone did this before! I mean, Google Maps has the stations but not the lines chowing how they connect, as it does have for the MTA subway.

Are you getting a

sqlalchemy.exc.ProgrammingError: (ProgrammingError) can't adapt type 'numpy.float64'

???

It's because psycopg (psycopg2) - which is used inherently by SQL Alchemy but if you're just dealing directly with alchemy you might not know this - has no idea how to make the numpy.core.numerictypes.float64 (complete type path: another thing they don't tell you) a string for SQL querying.

Simple solution, add:

Its this website where you fill those surveys and they give you like $1 dollar for the whole thing that will probably take you like an hour to complete.

The worst part is that theyre a bunch of tricky bastards, in every survey there is a "screening" part where your eligibility is decided however now a days the whole survey is a screening apparently and surveysavvy doesn't care that the survey makers are taking advantage of the fillers by screening them out at the very end after much work just because they didn't match the criteria.

Ant this is supposed to be the best survey website... My advise: just get a job

What is a Loser? What is a Winner?

Winners, losers, terms we hear every day, but very vaguely defined. Well, duh, winners win and losers loose. Is that all there is to it?

According to Eric Berne (transactional analysis) and more specifically Claude Steiner, most people tend to live their lives according to a life script. In very short words a script is like a cannon or a set of roles that a person has been taught unconsciously or has otherwise learned. Winner and looser are scripts or ways to live, and in my opinion they are almost THE SAME THING.

Losers win too

The main difference between winner and loser behavior is when do they win and when do they lose. Both types of people can be very competitive and are constantly exposed to win - lose situations. Job interviews, competitions, auditions, examinations; these are some examples of such situations.

The problem with losers is that when they win, they lose. Yes, losers win too, but somehow they arrange things in such an order that if they actually win a competitive situation, they will lose something else. And in the other hand when they lose, they have arranged things (maybe just in their minds) in order to win something else too. So they keep losing, because in their heads they are winning, and they don't want to win because they will lose anyway...

[I should provide some examples to make things clearer.]

Resuming, losers:

when they win, they lose
when they lose, they win

What about winners?

This is going to get confusing. Winners win when they lose! They are wise enough to see where they can win or learn something when they lose. Secret: winners lose a lot. They lose many more times than when they actually win, but this serves them as training to win when it counts. In the end they know how to win and they don't lose anything when winning. THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE.

So winners:

they win when they lose (not the same as losers' when they lose, they win)
when they win they just win

Becoming a Winner

The good news is that if you're a looser, you're just one step from becoming a winner. The main reason why losers end up losing always is that they are unrealistic in their goals while winners are very realistic and practical.

Losers have a fantasy about what they will win that supersedes the real price.

I have found impossible to find the original CAW games and expansion so I installed from my old 3.1 Disketes and uploaded the installed directory to this zip file here:

CAW 1, 2 and WCK ZIP FILE DOWNLOAD

Just unzip somehwere and play from there executing the CAW.BAT and CREATE.BAT files.

Cargo Bridge Game Tips for Optimality - Levels 7 to 12

The Suspension Bridge

Nowhere in the game levels have I yet found a place to build a proper suspended bridge. Not even a cable-stayed. Nowhere but the chalenge. check out this beautiful 25m all-wood bridge!

Levels 7 to 12

In this new section we will need some more knowledge about building bridges. This time from pghbridges.com. Please check it out to find out about cantilever spans, types of trusses, and other advanced patterns (which will be impossible to replicate in the game but are interesting however).

Level 7 - at 45º

Don't feel the inclination. In fact, it will make things easier because the cargo never really places all of it's weight on the bridge. If your bridge is straight enough (or even better slightly convex) and it supports itself, it should work. So we could do an extended truss bridge like this:

...to cover the 13m at 45% span with $730 bucks. But then again a more optimal solution would resemble something like this:

This bridge was $614. It is some sort of arch with extra support from a small web on the upper extreme (sorry about the distorted image).

Note: From here on I havn't got the time to explain each solution so I'm just uploading the images in the meantime.
