Rob Papen has released version 1.8.5 of Blue, a virtual synthesizer plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Blue now has the same HQ reverb code as Predator 1.5.6 and a cool new feature called ´sequencer/arpeggiator´ lock! This enables you to lock an active arpeggiator or sequencer and scroll trough the other presets keeping the same arpeggiator or sequencer active. Loopmasters recently launched a new series of sample libraries featuring artists from the famous Global Underground music label, which is well known for its mix compilations by high profile DJs like James Lavelle, Sasha, and Darren Emerson to name just a few.

After Anil Chawla & Dale Anderson and Jim Rivers it is now time for Sultan (Ossama Al Sarraf) to share some of his sounds with us.

Nominee at the Beatport Music Awards, with a Billboard #1 hit under his belt and having remixed and collaborated with artists including Dirty Vegas, BT, Nadia Ali, Cedric Gervais, Sander Kleinenberg, Kaskade and Morgan Page, Sultan has gained respect for his unique productions by leaders in our industry such as Mark Knight, John Digweed, Sharam, Tiesto to name a few.

So what do I think?

With 290 MB Sultan’s sample library isn’t going to break any records on content size, but quantity doesn’t mean quality. The drum loops are tight and quite funky really. Many of them have a good number of variations with the same drum sounds so you can use them like construction kits, adding bits and pieces. I really enjoyed the musical loops, which are very inspirational. I’m not into using bass loops much but I dropped them in with some of the beats and I think they’re pretty good too.

The single shot samples and sampler patches are a nice addition but nothing special, except perhaps the FX section which includes some lovely hits and glitchy noises.

Blue Cat Audio has announced an update to the Blue Cat Freeware Pack, a collection of free audio plugins for PC and Mac.

The big news is that new version introduces RTAS plugin format support for Pro Tools. It also includes several fixes and enhancements for the other formats, on both Mac and PC.

• Factory presets are now available from the plugin menu.
• RTAS plugin format support (final beta stage – currently available with the Free Pack only).
• Mac: fixed keyboard/mouse focus issues in some hosts.

9 Soundware has released Operator, a collection of presets for the EFM1 synthesizer within Apple Logic Pro.

These settings harness the noise making capabilities of FM synthesis, a synthesis method often associated with the ubiquitous bell-like sounds heard in music from the 1980s.

The sound set consists of 30 inharmonic sounds and 20 tonal sounds. Examples include settings for impacts (e.g., Breakdancrrrrrrrrr.pst, Creepy-crawly.pst, Hair Metal.pst, and Piñata.pst), noise (e.g., Chop Suey.pst and Fluff Assasin.pst), and backdrops (e.g., Chernobyl.pst, Crop Circle.pst, and Snarl.pst), as well as those which are designed to be played with heavy use of the mod wheel (e.g., Country And Western.pst). Also included are a few presets which are characteristic of quintessential FM sounds (e.g., Mullet.pst and Menthol.pst).
