We integrated the creation of a website for mobile devices with our mediapublisher_TM by adding a mobile publication channel next to the existing PDF publication channel. This publication process automatically generates the complete mobile website which will always be fully consistent with other media published from the same source.

Creating a web site for mobile devices has it’s own challenges. Mobile devices are not only smaller in size, their web browsers are generally slower compared to a desktop or laptop computer. There are many variations in screen sizes and platforms therefore existing print-based designs are often not suitable for these devices. Our solution involved developing a webdesign specifically for mobile devices and an automated publishing process that takes the XML documents from the mediapublisher_TM, the artwork from the assetmanager_TM and generates the complete website (including full-text search and web analytics).

The challenge

Team APS will ride coast-to-coast to raise much-needed funding for the children’s medical research charity Sparks. Taking place on 17th – 22 September, the ride is a little over 500 miles which will be covered in just 6 days. Whilst the distance is a challenge in its own right, the ride includes over 27,000 feet of up hill climbing starting at the most westerly point Land’s end to the most easterly point Lowestoft.

3D photo realism

Using custom HDRI lighting, advanced shading techniques and up to date render engines we create photo realistic images that challenge conventional product photography in quality and flexibility. We can control every light, shade and highlight to the highest degree.

Even better than the real thing

The benefits can be largely described using 3 words: economics, consistency and flexibility. Products and scenes can be easily created and manipulated within the 3D visualization arena to create ‘true to life’ images conform brand guidelines that are more cost effective than producing the real thing.

To focus on the message Philips wanted to communicate, we removed the elements that did not contribute to the message. We removed the pillows on the couch, the chair, the guitar in the corner and the stool with the beverage bottles. Using 3ds Max we then created a 3D rendering of the hi-fi system and the cabinet the system stands on. The image was used as a backdrop in the application to determine the right perspective.The 3D model could now be placed, based on the position of the camera when the original photograph was taken. Last we rendered the final 3D image and positioned the 3D model in the image using Photoshop.

Recently there has been a clear move and focus towards a high-end web enabled Annual Report, without sacrificing the printed report. This makes it necessary to have an efficient, robust and secure solution to publish from a single source into these two publication platforms.

Philips was looking for a solution where they could publish the Annual Report in a highly automated way, from a single source, towards the web and printed version. relate⁴u was able to offer them that solution. Together with Cumquat relate⁴u has built a platform for single source publishing of the Annual Report. All data is captured in a central database and entered via a web browser.

All texts, tables, graphs and images are managed in this way, without any need for parallel changes in the print and web environment. All content is managed from a single source. Core financial data is imported from financial systems. relate⁴u works on the design together with Philips Design.

For the 2010 Annual Report we have added a new functionality. Visitors of the Philips’ Annual Report website can generate their own personal Annual Report, containing only the sections that the user selects online.

relate⁴u used the design of the existing brochure as a starting point to develop the narrowcast presentation. The first step was to develop templates. Each template consisted of a number of static basic elements, complemented by moving elements, to create an interesting viewing experience. We used Adobe After effects and Adobe Photoshop to create and combine all the elements.
