I tried the wireless update, but got a message that says the update cant be installed as it requires more space than what is left on my device. Some options which was available after checking on apple support website, was to either clear up the cache and temporary memory on iPhone or to manually update it from iTunes. As my free space was less than 900Mb, as a first option I decided to clear up the temp memory and make space for updating iPhone.

In below article, I will show you how I Re-Claimed 3.5Gb & Updated iPhone When Memory was Below 100Mb. Listing out two methods to clear iPhone Cache & Update iOS

How to clear cache & temporary files from iPhone.

One method which I use it to manually check the storage settings (Tap Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage) and see which app is consuming more memory than it should. In my case, Facebook was consuming around 700Mb, Instagram around 600Mb, so it was definitely some unwanted cache left behind from those apps consuming most memory. One workaround to delete these temporary memories is (if you have below 500Mb free space) to follow below steps.

1. Go to iTunes

2. Select Movies Tab

3. Select any movie and click on rent HD film.

4. After clicking on rent button, iPhone will try to clear all cache and temporary files so as to accommodate the film download. It will give an error showing film cant be downloaded because of low memory.

5. Check the storage option now & you can see more available free space.

Other option to update iPhone when you have low memory is to install update from iTunes.

1. Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
2. Plug your device into your computer.
3. In iTunes, select your device.
4. In the Summary pane, click Check for Update.
5. Click Download and Update.

We have found an easy way to fix this problem for associating magnet links in chrome with uTorrent (or any other torrent application). No need to reinstall chrome /uTorrent or do we need to reset settings of chrome. Just follow below easy way to make utorrent open magnets link directly from Chrome browser.

1. Press Windows key + R
2. It will open Run window. Copy paste below address to run window and press enter.%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data
3. An explorer window will be opened. (In our case on windows 7, it opens C:\Users\Renjith\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data)
4. In this window, find a file names LocalState. Open it with Notepad.
5. In Notepad, Press CNTRL +F & Search for term Magnet.
6. Delete the following line from the file as highlighted in the below image.”magnet”:true,

   

7. Save the LocalState file
8. Open Chrome browser. Go to any torrent site & click Magnet button.
9. A Pop up will show as per below image, Open Magnet URL?<
10. Select Remember my choice for magnet URL links & click Open Magnet URL button.
11. Now Magnet links are associated with uTorrent in Chrome & every time it will open utorrent if you click on Magent links.

First of all, Check the specifications of your IP Cam whether its support RTSP or any other streaming protocol.

How to Find the IP Address & Streaming Protocol of IP Camera

In order to check, which streaming protocol is supported by your IPcam, login to the web settings of your camera. In our setup, we have set camera IP address as 192.168.0.20. Open your browser & enter your IP address of cam. You will have to login with username & password depending on the security option if enabled. After login, go to network settings and check which protocol is supported. In  our camera, as you can see below supports RTSP & Onvif. Check the port number used for RTSP. Mostly it will be 554.Now go to the video setting tab & check the encoding whether H264/MPEG/Mjpeg etc.

Note down the IP address of IP Camera, encoding format & port number of RSTP.

How to Play RTSP video of IP cam on VLC Player

Open VLC Player.

Go to Media> Open Network Stream (Or press CNTRL+N). Now enter this string and change as per your IP Address,encoding & Port number.

rtsp://192.168.0.20:554/h264

Now it will ask for login username & password. Once done it will show the live stream of your IP camera in VLC player.

You can also try the direct string without entering the username & password. Use below string after changing IPaddress, username& password as per your settings.

rtsp://192.168.0.20:554/user=admin&password=password&channel=1&stream=0.sdp?real_stream–rtp-caching=100

Typically there are three alternate ways to replace broken LCD display of iPhone. (LCD& touch screen digitizer in iPhone is one piece)

1. Replace complete LCD with inbuilt home button & front camera. This replacement procedure is very straight forward & anyone can easily do it in under 10minutes. Costs approx: $22/INR 1500
2. Replace only iPhone LCD & reuse home button & front camera from old display. This procedure requires some patience & skill to remove the tiny parts from old screen & fixing in the new display. Costs approx: $20/INR1300
3. Replace only the glass & front cover & reuse the LCD screen. Arduous task & chance of display failure is very high. Not at all recommended unless you have prior repair experience. Costs approx: $6/ INR400

How I Replaced my iPhone 5 Screen

Even though I preferred the first method, I had to follow the second method due to mistake while ordering online. I ordered iPhone 5 LCD screen from Aliexpress & later came to know the model which I had selected was without home button & front camera.

Tip: Don’t make the mistake which i did buying below model. It’s without Home button & front camera assembly.

There are many YouTube videos which clearly shows the replacement technique. So you can go through any of these videos to know the exact procedure. Also you can download this PDF file for iPhone 5 Screen Replacement & take printout to use it as reference.

I will mention here some tricks which can be useful & points where extra caution is required.

1. Power off the iPhone.

2. Unscrew the 2 screws in the bottom & lift the display using the suction cup. Place the suction cup just above the home button & pull up the display. Once there is a small gap between display use plastic pry tool to gently lift it up.

3.  Do not lift fully up as there are ribbon cables attached to top of iPhone.

4. Then remove three screws as mentioned in the video & gently lift the three connectors. Now you’re display will be separated from the phone.

5. Follow the video or PDF carefully for removing the front camera & flex cable from top of the phone. While removing the golden connectors be extra careful, it can rip off. If you rip of the front camera flex cable as I did, you can get only the front camera & flex cable from ebay for $3 or INR250.

6. Remove the home button & it’s flex cable & connect in your new display. If you failed to remove the home button or it’s flex cable then buy a new piece from ebay. Cost around INR300/ $4.

7. Once you have assembled the home button. Fix back the new display in the reverse order.

8. After you have your iPhone5 completely put back together, Power up the iPhone & check whether LCD & touch is working. Make a test call & check whether ear piece speaker is working & also test the front cam.

9. If everything is fine, Congrats! You just successfully replaced your iPhone LCD.

Initially I thought it was an issue with Safari browser. But when I installed Chrome, same redirection issue happened. Even in Facebook app, while opening any link it gets redirected to some lucky winner contests or tradeexchange.com website.

Issue was getting worst, when iPhone browser redirects to n number of sites while using it, which makes it impossible to navigate and browse. It mostly ends up in tradeadexchange.com site and a windows pops up asking to upgrade my iPhone. Whatever search I give in Iphone browser be it Safari or Google, the search results were getting hijacked & redirected to spam website.

How to fix browser redirect problem in iPhone

I tried many ways to rectify this problem, closing the browser, or by using a different browser but none of this worked. When I checked for solutions in internet, many people have posted the same query & it seems it has affected iPhone5, iPhone 5s,iPhone5c, iPhone 6 & 6s. Finally i figured out a solution. In your iPhone settings go to the Safari and click on clear history and website data. Then close the browser completely and RESTART iPhone.. This helped me resolve the issue in no time.

If your redirect issue is still not solved. Disable WiFi in your mobile & browse using Mobile network (after doing above procedure & restarting iPhone). If it redirects Only in WiFi network, then most probably your wifi router setting might have be hijacked though other means. I will explain how to reset Wifi router settings in my next post. What caused this iPhone bug? Seems to be Jan1st 1970 corresponds to Unix Time zero which have caused booting software to calculate into negative time and loop itself.

Many have suggested removing iPhone battery or draining out the complete battery charge so as to reset the iPhone time. It works but takes lot of trouble to unscrew iPhone and disconnect battery. Fortunately their is another easy and quick method of resetting iPhone time and fixing 1970 bug without removing battery. Read further and follow procedure exactly to unbrick your iPhone from 1970 bug.

If you’ve already brick your phone, you might be seeing the white screen with Apple logo and stuck on it.

1. Install iTunes in your laptop and keep it ready. Plug your data cable to laptop but NOT to iPhone yet.
2. Now Press on the Power button and home button simultaneously.
3. After pressing for exactly 10 seconds remove the finger from power button but still press the home button and immediately plug the data cable to laptop.
4. After holding home button for some more time, you’ll see a message pop out in iTunes that phone has entered recovery mode.
5. Now click restore iPhone in iTunes and wait for phone to to be restored.
6. Once iPhone is detected in iTunes, configure it as a new device and don’t restore from backup.
7. Once iPhone boots up, time will be reset and 1970 bug will be removed.

Update: Once iTunes detects iPhone in recovery mode. Configure iPhone as a new device and DON’T RESTORE FROM BACKUP and it will successfully solve this bug.

In Macbook, it’s very easy to record Apple face time video calls. Open QuickTime and record. But when using iPhone, we cannot record any calls due to it’s software limitation. Only option to “directly” record facetime on iPhone is to jailbreak it and install screen recorder software. I will explain about this in coming posts.

How to Record Facetime calls on Windows

1. Download and install Lonelyscreen [direct download link given at end of post] on Windows PC or laptop. This software is a free Airplay receiver for Windows, like an Apple TV on your desktop.

2. Connect laptop to Wifi network & Open Lonelyscreen software. Change server name to what ever you like [optional]. In my case I changed it to “RENJ”. No other special configuration required. You will be recording facetime video & audio calls on PC with this software.

3. In your iPhone, there is no software to be installed. Connect iPhone to same network as your windows PC.

4. Once both phone & PC is connected to same wifi network, slide up in iphone to open control centre. You’ll be able to see the Airplay option (next to Airdrop) enabled as shown in pic below.

5. Click on Airplay option(your server name will appear here). Select the Airplay server and enable Mirroring.

6. Now in you PC, you can see the iphone screen being mirrored.

7. Now make a facetime call from your iPhone & you will be able to see in the windows PC. Press red button on lonelyscreen software to begin Facetime recording.

8. Once you finish talking over facetime, click the stop record button in software. Recorded facetime calls will be saved to PC. Just click on folder icon to bottom right of lonelyscreen to open facetime recorded videos.

UPDATE[13/02/2016]: I got many requests on how to record factime videos directly on iPhone & mac.

For iPhone, I mainly use an app called Display recorder which can be downloaded from this link. It supports both iPhone & iPad. You can record both video and audio using this app. The recorded videos can be played anytime later and it also supports many formats of recording. One thing to be noted is it records mic audio only if ‘H.264+mic’ option is selected in settings.

This trick works for most states & latest verified in January 2016 and if not working please post them in comments. If you’re using Airtel, please check free Airtel 3g trick which was posted some months back and updated recently.
