Hungry for some good ‘ole country comfort food? If so, check out Andy’s Kitchen here in Corpus Christi! A great choice for those colder or rainier days, this restaurant will give you everything you could ever want from a meal, from country comfort food to Mexican food and beyond.  Regardless of your taste in food, you are sure to find at least one thing (and probably many more) that you like.

Andy’s is located at 5802 S. Perform with the dancers at an upcoming game versus the Clippers

Got any little dancers or wannabe dancers in your family? If so, I’d like to tell you about a special event coming up here in Corpus.  The San Antonio Spurs are inviting girls ages 5-18 for the Jr. Silver Dancers Clinic on February 25^th.

No previous experience is necessary to participate, and the clinic will help your daughters develop dance skills from professionals like the NBA’s top dance choreographer and, of course, members of the San Antonio Silver Dancers.  The atmosphere will be energetic and upbeat – a great place to have fun and learn along the way!

The registration deadline is February 17^th, so make sure you sign up soon! The clinic cost is $45 and will include the one-day clinic, performance at a Spurs game on March 9^th (versus the LA Clippers), free performance t-shirt and skort, free CD containing all routine music, Spurs game ticket credit ($25 value) and a free 2011-12 Silver Dancers team photo.

The clinic will take place from 7:30 am – 4 pm (click link above for age-specific times) at the YMCA of the Coastal Bend here in Corpus Christi.  Again, make sure you register your daughter ASAP to make sure she gets a space!

Imagine one of these in dip form!

The Super Bowl is fast approaching, and as we make the final preparations, we might find that we are one or two things short in the food area.  Don’t worry; there are lots of recipes online geared especially towards Super Bowl parties.  Want something easy to add to your snacks? Click here for details on how to make BLT dip.  An interesting variation on the popular sandwich, this dip is sure to please guests who like to munch on chips.  To get you started, I’d like to give you the list of ingredients you’ll need to have on hand to start making it:

Ingredients:
-4 slices bacon
-3 green onions, thinly sliced
-1/4 cup each: mayonnaise, low-fat Greek yogurt
-1/4 cup arugula, chopped
-1/4 teaspoon salt
-Freshly ground pepper
-1 pint grape tomatoes, quartered

Get close to underwater wildlife at the Texas State Aquarium

Looking for something to do that will entertain you AND your kids without you having to travel too far? Check out the Texas State Aquarium! Located just 20 minutes from Reserve at Saratoga, the aquarium is a great place to spend some time, regardless of your age.  Travel down 358 West and the Crosstown Expressway and you will be on your way to seeing some of the best exhibits of the underwater environment.

If you want to, you can become a member, which will cost you one flat fee for unlimited visits.  It’s cheaper than buying individual tickets if you visit multiple times in a year.  This could be your rainy day activity for you and your kids that you can use over and over again if you’d like to.

Do you frequently visit the aquarium? What do you think of it in comparison to other aquariums you have been to? If you haven’t visited yet, get out there and get immersed (get it? “immersed?”) in underwater life!

If you're ready to make an impact, join the rest of the city in the 5K next month

Are you ready to run, Reserve at Saratoga? Get ready because Corpus Christi will be dashing around the area during the largest national charity 5K -  Cupid’s Chase – on Saturday, February 11th.  Corpus Christi will be one of the host cities, so let’s show everyone what our city’s got!

Whether you walk or run, you’re welcome to participate.  National nonprofit Community Options, Inc. – an organization that helps individuals and families with disabilities find housing and employment support – is the beneficiary of the event.  If you’re a runner, you’re ready for the event but don’t worry; walkers are also welcome at the Cupid’s Chase.  Whether you go fast or slow, your participation is a big help to this population and, therefore, will make a huge impact on our community.
