x

1/intro: TRANSISTOR SIX – Back Yard Rocketship (Blackbean & Placenta) - our adopted theme tune so you know where you are. Transistor Six is Frances Castle, there’s lots of her fine art and creativity to explore from Francis so please please do. You can now get the whole tune downloaded for yourselves and find links to her artwork, albums and lots more over at www.myspace.com/transistorsix

2: GABLÉ – Debut (Loaf) – From the rather intriguingly good album I’m OK, “Gablé’s work is in constant dialogue with DIY sensibility and aesthetic, sometimes literally”; the album’s tittle is in reply to the question posed by Daniel Johnson and his album “Hi, How Are You”. Gablé are a three piece from Normandy, France, they craft lo-fi experimental left-field pop songs, they deal with alternative textures, different inventions, the positive oddball feel of early Beck, Beat Happening, lo-fi alternative folk flavoured pop and bits of electronica and.... www.l-o-a-f.com or www.myspace.com/gableacute

3: ELECTRICITY IN OUR HOMES – Hooves (Parlour) – The not so scratchy as they were but still a bit scratchy really London band have a new six track single out on Monday July 27th. Here’s the Organ review again: We are very impressed, we will watch over your sleep, horse breath on necks, they should be proud, arms and legs used well, this is good for you, they’ll make you proud... Why would a band you’ve never heard or don’t really know make you proud? Don’t ask such awkward questions, just be thankful for the electricity and bands who have something a little more to them... It isn’t like nothing like this has happened before, still feels good when it does though. Don’t you want to (follow)?. Six tracks from the London band, all trustingly thrustingly discordant and rushing about and full of life and simultaneously inharmoniously good, so good that cup of tea that I was making went all cold and stewed and cold tea and scenes from the life of a double mattress and hooves and a glorious musical tension in their message of joy. The Message Of Joy here is that we have a fine fine record from a rather good band and would you like to try mine on...? Effortlessly edgy, good and going off and things to say...Other pop post-punk, wrong pop – wrong pop? That’s the term I was trying to remember, whatever happened to all that wrong pop energy? Here it is... Good! A fluid sound this time, well less scratchy that previous encounters, they’re evolving well... This is great, we’re very impressed with you, all horse breath and perfectly pleased... www.myspace.com/electricityinourhomes

4: RUDE MECHANICALS – Body Fluids (Ex Gratia) – A revisit to the one of our favourite bands and their recent single on Anarchistwood’s label Ex Gratia. Miss Roberts and her symbiotic musical slaves and big dresses and bigger hair and musical contradictions and left-field performance and alien tube mice and they say they’ll have the recordings for the next album done any moment now. Our excuse for playing this again, and we shouldn’t really need an excuse should we? They are Resonance FM all rolled up and captured in one band aren’t they? The Excuse, they’re playing the George Tavern, East London (on a Moose Factory bill). Next Sunday August 2nd (but you’ll be busy listening to the radio next Sunday won’t you) – www.myspace.com/flyingcaberet

5: PERHAPS CONTRAPTION – The Old Dispensary (demo) – From the demos of the soon to be released album from the London band. They have a whole album ready to go... Bits of Gong, bits of 70’s Genesis, strange horse contraptions, strange hats.... and playing with Anarchistwood in West London this coming Friday - www.myspace.com/perhapscontraption

6: ANARCHISTWOOD – Don’t Bullshit The Artist (Ex-Gratia) – The London art-punk band’s recent single, released on their own label (these people are in their bands, put on art shows, make cutting edge films, run a rather good label, put on always interesting gigs...) . Played tonight in anticipation of Friday’s “MUSIC FOR NON-THINKERS SHOW “ Ex-Gratia/Punkvert show at the Inn On The Green on july 31st. Find it underneath the Westway flyover, in Portobello, the bill also features Perhaps Contraption, Handsum Pete, The Doomed Birds Of Paradise, Total Decent and more... www.punkvert.tv/anarchistwood

7: LIME HEADED DOG – Bobby Fischer (Volcano Attack) – Track from the forthcoming debut album KFUM KFUK (out on 3rd August) and a genuinely different band, awkwardly fluid other pop and seriously hyperactive energy, different and so easy to go with, why aren’t all bands like this? You can be different... different, good, busy... good good good... www.myspace.com/limeheadeddog

8: THE ORB – Raven’s Reprise (Malicious Damage) – New album from The Orb, the album goes by the name of Baghdad Batteries and comes out, on the malicious Damage label, on September 7th. The album is another classic set of mellow electronic Orbscapes, sounding as fine as ever. The Orb play a low-key gig over in Clapham, at Arch 635. The venue only holds something like 250 people so grabbing a ticket quick is advised. Dr. Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann AKA The Orb “are still going strong after over 20 years, still producing great new material and gigging, The Orb are a living, breathing band. This is not a reunion and not a nostalgia gig”. More from www.maliciousdamage.biz

9: KONG - Gwant (Brew) – Manchester’s Kong (not to be confused with the Kong who were on Peaceville a few years ago) with a track from their much anticipated debut full length album Snake Magnet . “Scratching and poking and prodding away, agitating, buzzing around your head, flying at your face, taught, wired, never letting up.... Kong are different, and like we’ve said before, they’re one of the best bands in the UK right now... boundary pushing, tripping up over their own boundaries, taking risks, challenging themselves, challenging us, clever, never ever obvious, still can’t predict where they’re going... one unholy row, metal? Not really, beyond that, falling upstairs, falling up mountains... disjointed... fluid, angular... screaming... crashing... www.brewrecords.net or www.myspace.com/kongdom

10: WILD BEASTS – When I’m Sleepy (Domino) – Track from the Leeds band’s forthcoming Two Dancers album (out on August 3rd). Two dancers is an intoxicating set of pleasurable possibilities and the band play a one off show at Hoxton Hall on August 6th. Played tonight in anticipation of their appearance at next Saturday’s FIELD DAY festival at Victoria Park, London that’s packed with fine bands and interesting sounding stages, alternative art, tea rooms and more – www.myspace.com/wildbeasts.
You’ll find full Field Day line up details and more on the current Organ page. Field day happens on Saturday August 1st, at Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets, London, E3. More from www.fielddayfestivals.com
And The Thing are also playing Field Day....

11: THE THING – Hidegen Fujnaka Szelek (Smalltown Superjazzz) – A new album from the glorious free form jazz-noise thrillers (and regulars here on our Resonance radio show...) What needs to be said about The Thing? New Albini produced album of challenging hardboiled jazz noise and another album that’s as essential as all the others they’ve made. Jazz for rockheads who like to be challenged, brilliant again! Bag It is out now on the consistently excellent Smalltown Superjazzz label. The Thing play a rare UK show at the Field Day festival in London next weekend, see above with the Wild Beast track – www.smalltownsuperjazzz.com

12: STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB – The Squeeze (Cooking Vinyl) – Tom Morello, guitarist from Rage Against The Machine, Boots Riley, leader of seminal Oakland hip-hop outfit The Coup with a new band and a self titled debut album (out August 3rd) and raging against those machines more than ever and... We still love ‘em and this is a good ‘un, seriously crafted riffs, clever lyrics, cross pollinating rage and still out there pushing – www.streetsweepermusic.com or www.cookingvinyl.com

13: HYSTERICA – Girls Made Of Heavy Metal (Crong) – They’re the girls made of heavy metal, they’re going to force you to rock! No messing in your face proper fist-pumping heavy metal, Manowar-scaring serious real deal, five giant leather-clad girls from Sweden here to force you to rock... What more do I need to say! Debut album Metalwar out now and how much more metal could it be? None, none more metal, metal album of the year without a doubt, we mean it maaan, god save (wonder if we’ll still be on air next week?).. Here's some links - www.hysterica.se or www.myspace.com/hysterica

14: RUINS – Zajyu (Ipecac) – A classic slice of Ruins from the excellent album Tzomborgha and some serious avant other rock, played tonight because... Because TATSUYA YOSHIDA (RUINS - ALONE) will be here in London at Cafe Oto on Saturday and Sunday August 8th and 9th, this is exciting; “Tatsuya Yoshida is one of the most innovative drummer/composer/improvisers in the Japanese avant-garde music scene. Born in 1961 Yoshida began playing professionally in early '80's and formed his own drums and bass duo group Ruins in 1985. Ruins play very unique high energy music that is mixture of contemporary music, hard core and progressive rock. Yoshida has led many other groups including, KOENJIHYAKKEI, RUINS, ZUBIZUVA, AKATEN, KOREKYOJIN. He has collaborated with JOHN ZORN, FRED FRITH, DEREK BAILEY, KEIJI HAINO, YOSHIHIDE OTOMO, ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE etc...
Tatsuya Yoshida will also perform one night at the Serpentine Gallery alongside Charles Hayward, an event organized by OTO Projects in association with Cafe Oto on Friday August 7th. Full details can be found here LINKS, MUST HAVE THOSE LINKS!: www.cafeoto.co.uk or www.myspace.com/magaibutsu

15: GG ELVIS AND THE TCP BAND – Suspicious Mind (Mental) – That’s right, the real king is alive and well and he’s been inhabited by the spirit of GG Allin! GG Elvis leads an Elvis tribute band, they do it GG Allin extreme punk rock style and the good news (oh yes, it is good news!) is that they’re on the way over here for an August UK tout that includes a date here in London, at the Camden Underworld, on August 5th. More from www.myspace.com/ggelvis

16: NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA / STRAVINSKY – Rite Of Spring (Apex) – A small slice of the beauty that is The Rite Of Spring in lip-smacking anticipation of some Stravinsky action at the Proms this come Tuesday. Tuesday is Firebird, we have to wait until August for Rite of Spring. Stravinsky is serious Other Rock and if you’re in London then you really should try the Proms at least once, forget all that last night flag waving nonsense, don’t let that put you off... Just get down there, get in the line and pay jut five pound to stand in the pit . I love the formality of it all, the disapproving looks if you wear a Motorhead shirt or breath a little too loud, I love the highbrow delight (and I hate the way the BBC are doing their best to dumb it all down) and most of all I love the idea of live thrilling classical music at an affordable accessible price for all, See in the line on Tuesday, if you’ve never taken the time to explore Stravinsky then you really should, serious other rock, up there with Cardiacs in our book – www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2009. Check out some YouTube here

17: THE STUPIDS – Drumshop Arsehole (Boss Tuneage) – The Stupids are back and (like we said last week) not sounding anything like the tired old middle ages punks that they really should sound like. Nothing worse than born again ageing punk bands, who needs ‘em? Ipswich hardcore punk skateboarding legends The Stupids are a sounding better than ever, first album in something like twenty years and they’re sounding fresher then ever. I don’t know, didn’t really rate them back there, they were good but hey, sounding refreshingly great now. The new album, (it came out on July 13th), is called The Kids Don’t Like It. Serious set of short sharp speed-metal-thrashing bloody-knee skateboarding wholesomeness punk rawk slices for yer – www.bosstuneage.com or www.stupids.moonfruit.com

18: RUINS - Mennevuogth (Ipecac) – See track 14. We needed another slice tonight, going to be something special next week... We;; we're excited anyway....

19: JON HOPKINS - Light Through The Veins (Double Six) – A soothing end after all of tonight excessive noise and airwave shaking and a slice of Jon Hopkins recent beautiful nine minute single that you can also find on his highly recommended album Inside. Beautiful post-rock flavoured soothing instrumental uplifting come-down warmth and glow and one of the best albums 2009 has delivered so far... Jon is also playing the Field Day festival this coming Saturday, see the main Organ pages or the Wild Beasdt track up above for details of that – www.myspace.com/jonhopkins

Next week Marina will be in the chair once more with her OTHER ROCK SHOW and the continued exploration of rock that goes beyond the convention on mere 4/4 time

More of all of this, as always, on the Organ pages at www.organart.com

You're mainly right. After much research I've found methods for reducing it but nothing to get rid of it entirely. The Tascam's have this awful and mostly useless FX button on the front which are too easily depressed.

The worst thing about dealing with the echo is that the last word lingers over the next one and makes cutting a real hazard.

Nevermind, we must embrace the echo!

2: PETER HAMMILL – Stumbled (FIE) – Peter Hammill has a new solo album out, as good as anything the Van Der Graaf Generator frontman has been involved in over his what must be forty years of making very fine, very different, always challenging, provoking music. Thin Air is out now of Peter Hammill’s own label FIE – find out more via his website www.sofasound.com or explore some VdGG/PH treasure via the download page at www.vandergraafgenerator.co.uk

3: PRE – Haircutticus (Skin Graft) – Pre have a new album finished and ready to go, the beautifully noisy thing is called Hope Freaks, once more, the bits we’ve heard, are a screaming hardboiled screamathon delight. You can download this very track for free and get an early taste of the album via www.skingraftrecords.com

4: MARNIE STERN – Don’t Stop Belivin’ (demo) – Marnie is from New York, she was once a nice polite singer songwriter and we politely passed by her early releases, then she discovered math rock and things like Hella and got all experimental with her guitar and these days she makes thrilling records and we were all excited about seeing her in London last month. Alas she cancelled. But she’s back this July for a full UK tour including a London date in Kilburn at the Luminaire on July 23rd. This is a demo recording of the other American national anthem, the absolute AOR classic from Journey done Marnie Stern style, them US radio classics reworked Resonance style, there’s a whole show in that idea – www.myspace.com/marniestern1

5: WIRE – Three Girl Rumba (EMI) – A classic minute and twenty three seconds of Wire from their classic debut 1977 album Pink Flag... And the excuse for playing Wire (you know we always like to have a reason right?), tonight’s excuse is one of the main writers/creators of The Wire is in town... GEORGE PELLECANOS is in London on July 23rd to talk about the ground breaking piece of art that is the TV Show (yes, we’ve got as hooked as everyone else eventually does). Catch the talk, along with a performance from Spider Stacy And Friends – he of The Pogues... Does that mean it might tune in to one of those Baltimore detective wake nights with McNulty and Bunk?) See Theboogaloo.co.uk for more information. There’s only two types of people in the world, those already hooked on TheWire and those yet to be hooked, Omar has us eating nothing Honey Nut here... Old news we know but everything is right, the look, the compelling sound, the space, the pace, the way you can invest time and emotion in every single one of the people, the dirt it digs... perfect TV.
As for Wire the band, they’re still making great records, tune in to their website www.pinkflag.com and explore, loads on that site, no middle age punks here...

6: JAZZKAMMER – Freemix Norwave – Thurston Moore Remix (Smalltown Superjazzz) – Smalltown Superjazzz is one of those great record labels you can really trust, a label to always check out. They’re essentially a jazz label, hang on though, the challenging hard-boiled end of jazz, the jazz-noise end where you find a bit of experimental punk attitude and slabs of discordant challenge from outfits like THE THING, ORIGINAL SILENCE, OFFONOFF, DISKAHOLICS ANONYMOUS TRIO, LASSE MARHAUG... The label has a new compilation sampler out right now called THE BLASTING CONCEPT – comes with excellent sleeve notes from SST Records man Ray Farrell – that’s right, no accident that this album has the same name as that legendary green and red covered compilation of the 80’s. Jazzkammer are on the album, and we love a slice or two of Jazzkammer here on the Organ show, we love lots of Smalltown stuff here, one of the labels that gets most attention on the show... I like investing trust in good old school style labels, Smalltown, Cunieform, Skin Graft... www.smalltownsuperjazzz.com

7: D.M STITH – Issac’s Song (Asthmatic Ktty) – A track from the recently released Heavy Ghost album from Brooklyn’s rather magical D.M. Stith. He’s over here in the UK to open for Bat For Lashes at Somerset House this coming Thursday 16th July, should be a rather good open air place to enjoy his soul-drenched uniqueness. He’s also at the Hoxton Bar And Grill on 20th July if you don’t have a ticket for the already sold out Somerset House show – www.myspace.com/dmstith or www.asthmatickitty.com
The Somerset House series of shows is on now and continues this Monday July 13th with MARS VOLTA down by the River Thames in the open air in the square inside the house Full details: www.somersethouse.org.uk

8: THE STUPIDS – Middle Aged Punk (Boss Tuneage) – The Stupids are back and not sounding anything like the tired old middle ages punks that they really should sound like. The new album, out this Monday July 13th, is called The Kids Don’t Like It. Serious speed-metal-thrashing bloody-knee skateboarding wholesomeness punk rawk goodness for yer – www.bosstuneage.com or www.stupids.moonfruit.com

9: ORIGINAL SILENCE – Argument Left Hanging, Rubber Cement (Smalltown Superjazzz) – Another track from the just released Blasting Concept album, see track six.

10: SLAB – Gutterbusting (Vinyl Ink) Got a new CD from a band called Slab this week, it wasn’t that good and they can’t be called Slab, there seems to be a million bands called Slab out there, there’s only one Slab! This originally came out in 1987 on an album called Descension - and when John Peel played it back then, it stopped me completely, rushed out to get it the very next day, still sounds as powerful today. I don’t know if you can find any of their albums these days (playing this off a compilation of their singles called Ship Of Fools that came out in ’91 that I found in a local charity shop a couple of years ago). They are still out there, or so I just discovered with a quick web-search – www.slab-uk.co.uk

11: D.M.STITH – SPIRIT PARADE (Asthmatic Ktty) – Well his beautiful songs are rather short and he deserves two plays ahead of his London shows. See track seven for more details.

12: MICHAEL J SHEEHY – Fight For Your Right To Fight (Glitterhouse) – Mr Sheehy has yet another fine album on the way, out on July 6th. His sixth album – is that six solo albums or are we counting his work with Dream City Film Club here? Whatever the score, every single record the man has ever been involved in is worth checking out, Michael makes records that matter and why he isn’t big big news is beyond us. This time some kind of soul-drenched bad-ass collection of noir-blues and some sort of concept album about boxing and taking a dive and more of his barroom stories and East End Irishness and more of that Catholic guilt and ... He’s joined this time by his band The Hired Mourners. Catch Michael J Sheehy at the Lexington, here in London, on July 16th, find out more via www.myspace.com/michaeljsheehy or www.glitterhouse.com

13: C.R. AVERY – The Boxer Who Just Returned From London (Bongo Beat) - And seeing as Michael J has got us on to boxing, another play for one of our favourite tracks from last year. C.R Avery is an American performance poet and this piece of beat-box flavoured poetry is really something special – you’ll find it on his 2008 album called Magic Hour Sailor Songs – www.cravery.com or www.bongobeat.com

14: GREYMACHINE - Vultures Descend (Hydra Head) - Jesu and Godflesh's Justin Broadrick and Diarmuid Dalton, Isis frontman Aaron Turner and Head Of David's Dave Cochrane have teamed up to form a new band, Greymachine. The results, as you would expect, are heavy. Very, very heavy. You can check out, 'Vultures Descend', a track from their forthcoming debut album, 'Disconnected', which is due out via Hydra Head on 4 Aug, here: www.avalancheinc.co.uk/Vultures_Descend.mp3

15: MEXICAN INSTITUTE OF SOUND – Sinfonia Agridulce (Cooking Vinyl) – One more play because so many of you ask us about this. The track is from an album called Soy Sauce that came out in May of this year. And yes that is a very Mexican sounding Bitter Sweet Symphony - www.myspace.com/mexicaninstituteofsound

16: WILLIAM BLAKE – London (download) – A reading or William Blake’s poem London that you can download from http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/romantics/poems1.shtml (thank you BBC!). Played tonight because we should have more poetry (I got these great Lilith Payne recordings here you have to hear soon) and because over at Housmans rather fine bookshop in Kings Cross (radical since 1945) there’s a talk from Peter Marshall called BLAKE: London’s Visionary Anarchist... Here’s the blurb from the book shop (well worth getting on their mailing list, always lots of interesting events....
BLAKE: London’s Visionary Anarchist - Philosopher, historian, biographer, travel writer and poet, Peter Marshall recounts the life of one of London’s finest artists, William Blake. Marshall offers a lively and perceptive account of his thought, ranging from his philosophy, his critique of existing society and culture, to his vision of a free world.
“Come along to find out why Blake can be understood as a forerunner of modern anarchism and social ecology, and discover the light which shines behind his symbolism and mythology. This event celebrates the reprinting of Peter Marshall’s book ‘William Blake: Visionary Anarchist’ published by Freedom Press”. The event is part of Housmans’ ‘London’s Burning’ series (Housmans – radical booksellers since 1945) see www.housmans.com/events.php. Event information: Wednesday 15th July – 7pm to 8.30pm, Housmans Bookshop, 5 Caledonian Rd, King's Cross, London. Free entry - www.housmans.com

17: ANTHRAX (UK) – One Last Drop (Happy Release) – The one and only Anthrax, oh alright, the original Anthrax, the anarcho punk band Anthrax from back there, the days of Crass and all that. They’re back (another born again punk band, we love ‘em around here, Stupids, Anthrax....) first time in a recording studio for twenty years so they say – sounding as good as ever to us, and don’t we need some proper political punk rock with a bit of thought behind it right now. Two track CD single released on their own Happy Release label, played the other side last time, played this side this time – www.myspace.com/anthraxuk or www.anthraxukoffical.com

18: SHEARWATER – On The Death Of The Waters (Matador) – A Revisit to last year’s rather beautiful album Rook and one of the very best bands out there right now. Played tonight for two reasons... Reason one: the band have just announced a one off show at the Luminaire in London’s Kilburn on September 14th as part of a UK tour, surely the last time you’ll get to see them in a small intimate venue, surely the bigger halls are calling them. Grab a ticket quick we say... www.myspace.com/shearwater or www.shearwatermusic.com
And reason two: Shearwater may come from Austin Texas, but a shearwater is one of the most beautiful of British birds and....
Great Birds of the British Isles is the first ever collaborative show from artists called Milk, Dora, K148 and Amour. The four formed this collective after meeting via underground graffiti circles, painting walls and photographing the evolution of the artform. “Print, paint and photography have brought these four birds together. After finding each other’s passions they are determined to take a step forward and create something totally fresh and unique. Expect to peer into a boudoir of colour texture and design with solo and collaborative pieces spilling from wall to canvas and back again, exploring an intoxicating mix of juiced up logos, great birds, female forms and a spoon full of graffiti... seen through a very different eye. Now sit back and watch them spread there wings and fly!”
Oblong is at 69 Southgate Road, London N1 (nearest tube is Angel, quite a walk though, grab a bus, 141 stops outside the gallery). The show opened on Friday 10th July and runs until August 9th – we went along to the opening night, we’ll have some photos and words on the Organ website in a bit - more details from www.oblonggallery.com or www.myspace.com/greatbirds

19: ONEIDA – The Story Of O (Jagjagiwar/Brah) – Oneida have a new triple album on the way, their second rather experimental instalment of their Thank Your Parents triptych of releases, our of the 13th of July according to sticker on the back, goes by the name of Rated O. The Brooklyn band are at the Garage over here in London on August 18th as part of a European tour, the record label would rather us not tell you any of this though, so we didn’t alright – www.myspace.com/oneidarocks or www.enemyhogs.com

20: THE STUPIDS – Drumshop Arsehole (Boss Tuneage) – See track eight

21: HEIRS – Plague Asphyx (Denovali) – The rather epic Australian band have a new album called Alchera and some giant slabs of oppressive monolithic goodness that tastes of things like Swans, Neurosis, Godflesh, Minsk – intense low-end instrumental post-postsomething-or-other boulder pushing up a hill, a lurching delight and a band with an edge of their own, perfect way to close tonight’s show, thanks for listening (if indeed you did, if not here’s all the links to what you missed) – www.denovali.com or www.heirs.com.au

Next week Marina will be in the chair once more with her OTHER ROCK SHOW and the continued exploration of rock that goes beyond the convention on mere 4/4 time

This BOB DRAKE track is just one of many career-spanning full and sample downloads from www.bdrak.com - is there such a thing as a non-wonderful Bob Drake composition? Originally a founder member of US band Thinking Plague, BD now is based in France; currently working on new recordings with Vril amongst others... meanwhile in the New York avant vangard, SKELETONS, from last year's acclaimed album 'Money'

From Montreal, another track from this gorgeous and quite unique new album 'Life Given To Quiet Places' by OEN SUJET, released on July 13th by LOAF Recordings.www.l-o-a-f.com
Rather shockingly from our old manor of Warf'msto, oops Walthamstow, come LED BIB who are blowing away the UK jazz scene by being as avant and as good as all the weirdass American stuff! Yay! Hence Cuneiform signing them. They play the Vortex in October. Free download on www.cuneiformrecords.com front page.

This PSYOPUS track is from their 2007 album 'Our Puzzling Encounters Considered' - they're a youngish outfit from Rochester, NY there's a new album out now, info at: www.psyopus.com ...LOW TRAMON are formed of various remnents of the much-missed Optimist Club; this from their 4 track demo www.myspace.com/lowtramon ...

Veterans of soul-churning heaviness HARVEY MILK are currently touring the East Coast of the US; this from their 2008 album 'Life: The Best Game In Town' www.harveymilktheband.com - UK outfit (described, not really accurately, as 'the world's most pretentious band' by some journo) THEY CAME FROM THE STARS I SAW THEM are playing the Hoxton Bar and Kitchen (or grill or whatever) Monday 6th July ...

KIT are from Oakland CA, this from their single with Mike Watt, and they're playing an Upset The Rhythm promotion in Los Angeles next weekend, see www.upsettherhythm.co.uk for more and download ...

LIME HEADED DOG is a strange UK band just releasing their debut album ...best wishes to CARDIACS' Tim Smith, who had his birthday this week, for which we are all indescribably grateful; there is important news on Tim's progress at www.cardiacs.com . This track was from 'All That Glitters Is A Mare's Nest'.

Some early MARS VOLTA in anticipation of their London gig at Sommerset House this month, from their 'Tremulant' ep.

Finally, in memory of two fine and influential musicans, a piece by HUGH HOPPER and ALAN GOWAN from their 'Two Rainbows Daily' collaborative album; Hugh Hopper played bass in Soft Machine and Alan Gowan was a keyboard player in National Health amongst other bands, and this was recorded in 1980. Alan Gowan passed away from leukemia shortly after these recordings; Hugh Hopper sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago .

NEXT WEEK, SAME TIME SAME PLACE with Sean O

Appologies to anyone who came down to tonight's opening Fugue night. There was a flood at the venue yesterday, the electrics got spannered and the owner thought he'd carry on untill the council forced him to close at 5.30pm, not giving us any notice to advise people to change their plans

Hopefully all will be good next week

Recently a really sweet 11 year old recorded 25 minutes of audio on a Tascam, which for some reason are armed with a useless FX button right on the front side where it is inadvertantly depressed at the slightest touch. His whole piece sounds like he's happily reporting from the bottom of a deep well.

Does anyone have a clue as to removing this kind of effect?

This is Children's Art's Week and at youth radio station Xpressitfm, we're airing shows made by under 19s about things art-related - a visit to an art gallery, an art project of their own, thoughts on a picture...and so on.

www.xpressitfm.com

So if you have a child who'd like to record some audio contact us and let us know, we'll be able to air it and supply your child with stickers and balloons to celebrate their radio piece, as well as letting them know when they can listen in to hear their piece!

Please see the website for more details.
