India has sent formal notices to the country’s mobile operators telling them they must have equipment to monitor Blackberry services by 31 August.

The move will increase pressure on Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) to allow Indian security agencies access to encrypted messages.

Tata Teleservices told BBC News that the letter said it must “ensure that Legal Intervention (LI) capability is put in place” by the end of the month.

RIM said it grants “lawful” access.

A spokesperson for Tata Teleservices said: “As a Tata Group company, we have always abided by the law of the land and will do so here too”.

Other operators have confirmed that they received a similar request.
‘Terrorism threat’

The government has said it will shut down Blackberry services if the firm does not meet its demands to give access to its encrypted messenger and e-mail services by 31 August.

In statement released on 12 August, the government said that other Blackberry services, including voice and SMS traffic, were already “available to law enforcement agencies”.

India, along with many other countries, believes the device and the Blackberry infrastructure are a threat to national security.

Blackberry handsets automatically scramble messages and send them to servers in Canada and other countries.

Authorities have said they want access to these messages and the keys to decrypt them to counter terrorism and criminal activity.

The row in India is the latest in a long-running dispute between RIM and international governments.

The United Arab Emirates was the first country to propose a block on the devices, followed by a raft of others including Lebanon, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

A ban that was supposed to come into force on 6 August in Saudi Arabia has been postponed whilst the government holds talks with RIM.
‘Co-operative’ company

The company is also reportedly in talks with the Indian government.

However, government officials contacted by BBC News declined to confirm reports that RIM would grant limited access to BlackBerry instant messages by 1 September.

It also declined to confirm that it had promised talks on monitoring its more secure corporate e-mail services.

RIM said it stood by a statement issued last week that said it “cannot disclose confidential regulatory discussions that take place with any government”.

“RIM assures its customers that it genuinely tries to be as co-operative as possible with governments in the spirit of supporting legal and national security requirements, while also preserving the lawful needs of citizens and corporations,” the statement read.

The Veoh, the famous site with video streaming, announced that went bankrupt and that puts shop on his property to be able to repay his creditors. The founder and chief executive, Dmitry Shapiro said the reasons for the collapse of the legal dispute with Universal Music Group-which-won Veoh and unfavorable economic climate.

“Unfortunately, the big vision, a passionate group, the tens of millions of users, millions of dollars in profits and a victory in court was not enough. H posting of attention because of its legal battle with Universal Music Group and the challenges of the broader macro - economic climate have led the company into receivership”, he said in a blog post.

The Veoh is longer subject to Article 7 of the Bankruptcy Code and not under Article 11, which would reorganize the company to be able to pay its creditors. According to Article 7, the company will sell assets in order to repay its debts.

The Veoh had managed to obtain funds from investors totaling 70 million U.S. dollars and collect 28 million users a month.

Dmitry Shapiro did not disclose the debts of the company. At present the site remains in operation.

Google announced the beta period as an Internet Service Provider in various areas of United States. Are expecting at least 50.000 houses to be connected, the most 500.000. They would be able to explore internet through a huge speed network compared with the european standards in internet speed we are familiar with.

The internet speed is expected to be 100 times much faster than the american average speed in internet right now, up to 1Gbit (GigaBit, in Greece we are in Mbit scale at the moment!!) per second. This speed is achieved through a brand new fiber cable network which it would own soon. The price for this service would a little expensive, until this service would be qualified for admission to the public.

Watch the following video that presents this service to american citizens.

This is the presentation on behalf of Apple, and it’s Tablet PC Development Section. It’s name… iPad !

iPad Apple Tablet

iPad is Apple’s proposition in category of tablet pc’s. Created to bridge the gap between iPhone/iPod Touch and MacBook offering specific functions of the above products in a much easier way.

These functions, as Steve Jobs said in Keynote’s presentation, are:

“Browsing the web. Doing email. Enjoying and sharing pics. Watching videos. Enjoying music. Playing games. Reading ebooks“.

iPad Tablet Apple

iPad promises to give a wind of change in everyday tasks through it’s iPhone/iPod Touch useful known interface.

The device looks like as a big iPhone with a 9.7” inch display and it’s been build according to MacBook technique (unibody), consists of a solid piece of aluminium.

Let’s see it’s detailed characteristics:

    * 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
* 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)
* Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating
* Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously
* 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive
* 1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed, high-performance, low-power system-on-a-chip
* Accelerometer/Ambient light sensor

iTunes/App store:

Apple launched iPad’s market with a big advantage, unlike to competitors, called App Store! All applications would be available and be supported to iPad.

User might choose if he want to watch the application in a iPhone-like diplay or fullscreen. Already developers have started the conversion of their applications to fit the bigger display of iPad. Just imagine the upcoming possibilities of your application.

In it’s simple way, developers created one application for two devices (as far as now!). Double opportunities, double money.
Let’s also not forget that developers would start very soon to make a very detailed version of their applications just for iPad device, to catch the opportunity of this upcoming market that iPad just started!!

iBooks:

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining , network.http.proxy.pipelining , network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

I was also reading somewhere (I don’t remember where now.. I restarted Firefox to check out the above changes) that you shouldn’t make the last “nglayout” change on OSX for some reason. But give it a try– you’ll like it! Of course this also increases the load on a given webserver as it gets more simultaneous requests per browser, but I’d say that the the speed improvement is worth it.</!—more—>

That might be the first thought in Microsoft who made an awesome product for another one time, presenting us the prototype Microsft Courier Tablet, that comes with 2 monitors 7” (inches) each one and with.. a booklet style!

Multi touch gestures to both screens, pen support for handwriting recognition, 3 MegaPixels Camera (with flash on the back cover of the screen), Status LED’s that functioning underneath the edge of one of the screens and finally but not last.. a central “Home button” are some of the new characteristics of brand new Courier tablet/booklet of Microsoft.

This new project was unknown so far while Microsoft kept this secret well secured. Of course it is expected to run in Windows 7 operating system, while rumors mention that Microsoft made some cooperative plans for this project, outsourcing some of its parts for both the User Interface and the total Design.

We expect more from Microsoft the next few days. As far as now we can keep our appetite with these photos and an introduction video showing us some of its new features!!
