I first heard about Restless Beings whilst attending a photography exhibition by Ruhul Abdin, one of the founders of Paraa, another charitable organisation doing great work.

The Bromley-by-Bow Centre was unknown to me and I walked right past it down a deserted residential street. It was dark and I had no idea where I was going. Heading back towards where I had come from I met some people who were also lost and also attending the event. We made it.

Earlier this week, the Burma Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK) held a cultural interchange gathering at the Burma Campaign Office in Old Street, London. Every month the Burma Campaign Office holds these gatherings for all the ethnic groups of Burma to come together and learn about the different cultures. They believe that together the ethnic minorities of Burma are stronger, as Nant Bwa Bwa Phan (Burma Campaign Office volunteer) said at the start of the gathering "Burma is all of ours".

Friday 9th December 2011 saw the beginning of the European Leadership Conference 2011 in London. The conference was co-organised by the Universal Peace Federation and the Women’s Peace Federation; both international organisations with values of peace, freedom and justice at the core of their goals. The conference was truly international in nature and brought together individuals from all over the world from different walks of life; including students, government officials, former heads of states, NGO representatives, charity directors, international diplomats amongst others. Restless Beings was privileged enough to have been invited to participate in the conference taking place in the Houses of Parliament and the Universal Peace Federation’s headquarters in London.

To celebrate international Human Rights day, Restless Beings invited Poetic Pilgrimage to perform to a Gala Dinner with delegates from the European Leadership Conference at the House of Lords. After the main performance as everyone cleared away, we were treated to this awesome coming together of creative minds :)

On Friday 9th December, to mark International Human Rights day, more than 200 delegates from across the globe, from UN delegates to former heads of states to the leading youth thinkers, gathered at the European Leadership Conference held at the House of Lords in London.

Restless Beings were approached in the immediate aftermath of Human Writes 2 and were asked to speak on panel to discuss the issue of 'How to make dignity a reality?'

I delivered a short speech on this, and have uploaded the transcript below. The important message to bear in mind, is that to be able to discuss human Rights, we must first start at dignity and its validity towards measuring progress.

Restless Beings have been invited to the European Leadership Conference due to be held in London on 9th, 10th and 11th December to coincide with International Human Rights day on December 10th.

We've been invited to speak on a panel at the House of Lords on Friday 9th December to discuss 'How to make dignity a reality?'. This is huge news for us, as, with your continued support over the last three and a half years, we are are able to raise awareness and voice the voiceless of the most marginalised communities across the world. It is a huge achievement that this International Human Writes day, the organisation that you guys have been supporting and watching make small pathways on the frenzy that is mainstream media, together, we are able to stand tall in our achievement of taking our humble projects and their beneficieries all the way to the House of Lords.

This year during April (2011), the directors of Restless Beings embarked on a research field trip to Kyrgyzstan to further their research for the bride kidnapping project. Whilst in Kyrgyzstan, the directors met with individuals, groups, organisations who have immensely contributed to the gradual development of the project.

Victims of bride kidnapping came forward to share their stories, they come in all ages from women in their 60's to teenage girls, evidently, illustrating that this epidemic has been around for generations and has not been dealt with.

We don't have to dig too deep into the Afghan culture to find out that it is often its women that face restrictions within the family and wider community and that their role in society is very limited. For a long time I have been searching for a book about the women of Afghanistan, then I came across Dear Zariby Zarghuna Kargar.

Having met in London's trendy Brick Lane and trying out various places, the Vibe Bar was to be our setting for an interview with the Rapper, songwriter, poet, performer, producer, not to mention youth worker, Mangaliso Asi. Growing up in Johannesburg, Mangaliso was brought up by his Mother- whom he often speaks of lovingly and remembers fondly, against the back drop of apartheid South Africa. It was his Mother that often surrounded him with music, mostly South African and Motown. With a father who was once a jazz musician in his younger days, a love of music and creativity was certain to follow for Mangaliso.
