Here is an interesting article about new research showing that frozen embryos may have a higher success rate than fresh embryos when used for IVF. Obviously this relates more to IVF than egg freezing specifically, but I thought it was interesting!

A support group has formed for single women who are considering, are involved in, or have completed the process of egg freezing. We welcome women who would like to learn more about this option to potentially help preserve their fertility. Information is also presented that may help women in optimizing their reproductive health. Come to explore key topics, share thoughts, questions and experiences, and connect in a mutually supportive atmosphere. Meetings are held close to Union Square in Manhattan, with free street parking nearby. The next evening gathering is scheduled for Monday, October 15, 2012 @ 6:50 p.m. Confidentiality is fully respected.

Please contact Izetta Siegal Stern, LCSW, at (212) 691-1266 to pre-register prior to the meeting date, as space is limited. In addition, a brief phone consultation is included for every new participant in order to best address individual concerns, questions, etc. in the group. This takes place, as well, before the meeting date. Ms. Stern is a psychotherapist who has worked with individuals, couples and groups around reproductive issues for many years. This group is sponsored by the American Fertility Association and was created at the request of single women who have completed egg freezing. These women felt that that such a group was needed as an important resource to assist those who are either contemplating or going through the process of egg freezing.

This article talks about exciting new research on egg freezing. “This study provides an important piece of safety data that had been missing from the egg freezing story, namely that the embryos produced after vitrification are not at an increased risk of being chromosomally abnormal and are just as likely to implant and deliver healthy newborns”.

Although the description of her experience sounds a little scary to me (“I experienced extreme fatigue, headaches, bloating and a roller coaster of emotions…imagine PMS times 100!”) and this was not my experience, her blog post is a very thoughtful description of what she went through and I recommend reading it.
