Looking at this, it must be a reason that he got the role. I can’t say too much about this film because anything I would say from here would be a spoiler. I really enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

Nick himself muses on all the various persons who come into his bar, some to ask for work and others just to pass the time. You’ll love these wonderful characters!

Four Star Playhouse is a television anthology series that ran from 1952 to 1956. The original premise was that Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino, David Niven and Dick Powell would take turns starring in episodes. However, several other performers took the lead from time to time, including Ronald Colman and Joan Fontaine.

The Outlaw is a 1943 Western movie, directed by Howard Hughes and Howard Hawks (uncredited), which turned Jane Russell into one of Hollywood’s movie legends. The film also starred Jack Buetel, Thomas Mitchell, and Walter Huston.

Although the movie was completed in 1941, it was released to only a limited showing two years later. It did not see a general release until 1946. The delay was a result of Hughes defying the Hays Code, which set the standard of morally acceptable content in motion pictures. By showcasing Jane Russell’s breasts in both the movie and the poster artwork, The Outlaw became one of the most controversial pictures of its time. Hughes even created a new type of bra just for this movie.

The Lost World is a 1925 silent film adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1912 book of the same name. The movie stars Wallace Beery as Professor Challenger. This version was directed by Harry O. Hoyt and featured pioneering stop motion special effects by Willis O’Brien (an invaluable warm up for his work on the original King Kong directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack). Writer Doyle appears in a frontspiece to the film. In 1998, the film was deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

This is a really low budget crime film with Walter Matthau. It makes me think it would have been a lot more entertaining if it had a budget. Still, it is Walter Matthau and he does get in some funny lines.

This is the third of the series with Boris Karloff as detective Mr. Wong. Mr. Wong (Boris Karloff) needs to find out who killed shipping magnate Cyrus P. Wentworth (Melvin Lang). -

Here’s a 1946 black and white movie starring George Raft and Ava Gardner shot in and in the film noir style, but without really being a film noir. At least I don’t think so. You could argue with me.

Radar Men from the Moon (Republic Pictures, 1952) was the first Commando Cody serial, in 12 chapters, starring newcomer George Wallace (1917-2005) as Cody and Aline Towne as his sidekick Joan Gilbert, with serial veteran Roy Barcroft as the evil Retik, the Ruler of the Moon. The director was Fred C. Brannon, with a screenplay by Ronald Davidson and special effects by the Lydecker brothers.

The Snows of Kilimanjaro is about a writer and adventurer waiting to die from a thorn scratch as he reminisces about his life and it’s trials including lost loves and time spent in the Spanish Revolution. It stars Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner as his first erratic love. It was adapted from Ernest Hemingway short story with the same name.
