It’s part of an early beta test of the service by the South African born, Elon Musk-led company. Participants in the beta test will also have to cough up $499 for the “Starlink Kit,” which is a bundle that includes: the terminal, a mounting tripod, and a WiFi route. A Starlink app on both iOS and Android will tie the service together.

According to the emails, the beta test is called the “Better Than Nothing Beta,”. “As you can tell from the title, we are trying to lower your initial expectations,” the email reads.

Expected speeds should be respectable, ranging between 50 and 150 megabits per second, according to the “Starlink Team” that signed the emails. They also claim latency will be reasonably low, ranging from anywhere between 20 and 40 milliseconds.

Employees have been testing the service for a couple months now as part of an internal beta.

Rest of the world

Starlink depends on a fast growing network of microsatellites in low-Earth orbit. So far, SpaceX has sent almost 900 into orbit, which is still only a tiny portion of the constellation required to give the entire globe service.

Near global coverage of the populated world is expected “by 2021,” according to the Starlink app description.

INGREDIENTS

120g butter (plus extra for greasing pan)

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons water

1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup all purpose flour

5 fun size Kit Kats

METHOD

Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.

Grease a 23cm by 23cm (or similar) glass or nonstick cake pan, greased with Spray & Cook.

Beat the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until blended.

Add and beat in the eggs 1 at a time then stir in water and vanilla essence.

Sprinkle the salt and baking powder over the mixture, then mix in. Do the same with cocoa.

Finally stir in flour until just blended.

Pour 2/3 of batter into prepared pan and then line individual Kit-Kats on top of batter. Pour the rest of batter on top of the Kit-Kats to cover the bars completely.

Bake for 30 – 35 minutes until the center is set and the top cracks a bit.

Cool before cutting.

One of the biggest changes to this year’s iPhone is how the devices are packaged. Apple have only included a charging cable, but no EarPods or power adapter, something that has been included in every iPhone since 2007. Apple plans to support the same power adapter for its next smartphone, which they have said is to reduce the amount of e-waste. Only issue is that the new iPhone comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and everyone’s previous charger bricks are only USB-B (so much for reducing waste..hmm).

That being said, Apple has outdone themselves after being in a pretty stagnant environment. Their all new Magsafe charging as well as Magsafe accessories allow for a whole new era in the way you connect with your device. The only downside as most hands-on videos have shown is that the accessories don’t connect as “strongly” as Apple suggested in their presentation.
