Upstart is a personal loan service that makes it easier to borrow money that traditional loans.

What we love about Upstart

Upstart was founded by ex-Google employees so they've taken all of the hassle out of the process for applying for a personal loan. We came across their website and decided to give Upstart a try to pay off a credit card bill.

This was the first time we ever applied for a loan, mainly because the process for applying for a loan up until now had been so complicated. We signed up on the website then sent in a few documents and once approved the loan amount was directly deposited into our bank account.

We loved that we were able to do everything online and it was about as easy as applying for a credit card.

Benefit 1: Eligibility is partly determined by your education and experience

If your credit score is less than ideal then you might want to give Upstart a try.

Their website says that they take your education and experience into account to help you get the loan that you deserve. This is different from most lenders who only take credit score and the number of years of credit into consideration.

When we applied for our loan we just had to enter some information about where we graduated from, our degree type, as well as some employer information like job title and number of years of employment.

Benefit 2: Fast approval

The approval process was really fast once we submitted all docs like proof of income. 

The approval was less than 24 hours and then the full loan amount was directly deposited into our bank account the following business day.

No dressing up and going down to the bank for an interview or anything. This is the way applying for a loan should be. Fast and convenient.

Benefit 3: Easy payment process

The payment process has been completely on autopilot so we've almost forgotten that we have a loan that we're still repaying.

Each month Upstart sends us an email reminding us that our payment is due, and it's always due on the same day each month (which you can pick.)

Then the same payment amount is withdrawn directly from our bank account. In addition the the automatic payment process we have set up with Upstart, we can log into our dashboard and make additional payments anytime we want or pay off the entire loan amount.

According to the website there are no fees or penalties for paying your loan early. Since the interest amount is fixed you pay the same interest amount whether you pay the loan off in 3 months or 3 years. This is great if you want to take your time to pay off the loan but if you want to pay off your loan early, there's really no incentive to do so in the form of money savings.

Upstart is a convenient process for applying  for a personal loan and it's great that they take education and experience into account in addition the your credit score. 

We really liked how fast we received the loan amount and how easy it is to pay it each month. Overall we would consider getting another loan from them again if the interest rate is favorable.

Upstart is great for young professionals who are just starting out in their career and want to consolidate their debt or pay off higher interest credit cards.

For the most part though, Upstart is great for anyone who might not have great credit but has a good education and job experience or for someone who just wants a loan but doesn't want the hassle of applying for a loan the traditional way.

Snappa is a graphic design tool that helps you create simple graphics without the need for expensive design software like Photoshop.

What we love about Snappa

We love how easy to use Snappa is. Compared to Photoshop you can get up and running immediately doing the basic things you need to create a graphic. 

Photoshop is very powerful but most of the functionality in Photoshop is stuff that the average person wouldn't normally use day to day. With Snappa there's really no learning curve, their user interface is intuitive and you can quickly figure out how to accomplish the basic things needed to create a graphic.

Also, with Snappa you have all of the stock images, icons, and fonts built right in. This is really convenient because everything you need is in one place so you can focus on the task at hand.

Then you just have to change the text and maybe the colors to match your branding and you'll have yourself a beautiful graphic in minutes.

If you've ever used an online service like Fiverr to buy graphic design you know that it can take days to correspond with the designer and to wait for your design to move up in the queue.

Drip is marketing automation software similar to services like Ontraport, Marketo, and Infusionsoft. It's much easier to use than alternative services, offers the majority of the same features, and is a fraction of the price.

What we love about Drip

Since we started using Drip we were immediately impressed by how much easier it was to use than other marketing automation software we tried. The user interface wasn't intimidating and set up was completely intuitive. We loved how much granular control we had over each specific setting so we could customize the behavior for every single form on our website.

Benefit 1: Drip saves you money

We've looked at many options for marketing automation software and all of them are very expensive. For example Marketo costs about $1,000 per month and hundreds of dollars to set up, in addition to your time. We're not sure why these sorts of services cost so much while Drip is able to offer a similar service for much, much less. We assume that it's because of their integration with customer relationship management software like Salesforce but we've found that we've been able to integrate Drip with any CRM software seamlessly using the service Zapier. So if you consider that Drip's service starts at $49/month versus thousands of dollars per month for competing services you'll find that you can save a ton of money by using Drip as your marketing automation provider.

Benefit 2: Drip is easy to use

When we first got started with Drip their support team reached out to us to offer their help to get us started. We had a few questions about how to achieve the results we wanted and they were able to offer a solution for every one of our needs. After the training with their team we were off and running! Set up was a breeze and now we are confident knowing that everything runs smoothly on our website. Nothing has stopped working and we never worry about whether our customers and leads are getting their emails.

Benefit 3: Drip helps you automate your sales process

Do you have a sales team? If so, Drip can be a great tool for nurturing your leads so your sales team can focus their efforts on the warmest leads. We use Drip to automate follow up for the sales team when someone downloads an ebook from our website. The lead receives a series of automated emails from the salesperson so the sales team only needs to reply after the customer has replied to an automated email. We immediately noticed an uptick in the number of conversations that we were having with our leads and an increase in the quality of the leads.

Drip is by far our favorite marketing automation software of all the ones we've tried. One thing we've noticed is that it just works.  We've never had any times during the set up process or during testing where their service didn't behave as we would expect it to. In addition to its reliability it's also simple, easy to set up, and one the only marketing automation software services that's just fun to use.

Who would we recommend Drip to?

We recommend Drip for any company who has a sales team, or even if you don't have a sales team, and you want a way to nurture your leads you can accomplish a lot with Drip. Additionally, if you're a one man show and you want to save time by automating your sales process than you can accomplish a lot for just $49/month with Drip. Drip describes themselves as “lightweight marketing automation that doesn't suck” and I would have to agree. It's amazing how features you get with Drip for such a great price.

Traveling Mailbox is an “online mailbox” which is a service that manages all of your physical mail for you to save you time and keep you more organized. 

We signed up for their “Basic Plan” which costs $15/month plus we pay an extra $4.95/month for a “Premium Address” which allows us to have an address in Seattle, Washington to forward all of our mail to. Their “Premium Address” feature is great if you want to give the appearance that you're in a big city for business purposes or you just want your address to be in a city that you love.

Getting set up wasn't as simple as just signing up online unfortunately but this is to be expected as they need to verify your identity for security reasons. We sent them photos of our ID and got a form from the post office which we had notarized and we were on our way. They set up our account almost immediately after we sent them all of the documents!

Once everything was approved we updated our address on everything we could think of and we started to see mail coming into our online dashboard.

When Traveling Mailbox receives your mail they take a picture of the outside of the envelope and send you an email alert which includes the picture. Next you can easily log into your Traveling Mailbox dashboard and let them know what to do with the mail. You can ask them to open it up and scan it, shred it, or forward it to you. 

If we don't need something we have them shred it, but for everything else we have them scan it and then we email a copy of the scanned PDF to ourselves which goes directly into a “Traveling Mailbox” folder in our email inbox. Now we have all of our physical mail in the same place as our email, it's great!

If you travel a lot and need a way to manage your mail then this is the perfect solution, especially if you're spending a significant amount of time out of the country and need a place for all of your mail to go. 

Traveling Mailbox is also great if you move a lot. Forwarding your mail each time you move can be a hassle, and updating your new address with each business or person you know just isn't realistic. We love the peace of mind we get knowing that we'll have one address for the rest of our life, even if we move.

We also feel great knowing that we have a digital copy of all of our mail and that everything is organized in one place, it's perfect for people that love everything to be neat and orderly!

HulaSoap is a business that is based out of Hawaii and sells soap made from natural and organic ingredients with scents that will remind you of the Hawaiian islands. In addition to selling high quality soap they also like to make a difference in the world.

The about page of their website says they are a mission-based business that is dedicated to helping prevent the deaths of children around the world who lack proper hygiene. That's a cause that we can definitely support!

The way that HulaSoap does this is by donating a bar of soap to a child in need for every bar they sell. According to their website nearly 2 million children in places like Africa and South East Asia die every year due to a lack of proper hygiene. These deaths can easily be prevented with hand washing if they just had access to soap.

In addition to their great cause HulaSoap also has some really great products! Their website has quite a few different products to choose from which include bars of soap with names like “Sweet Mango” and “Hawaiian Sunset.” We've tried a few of the different types and Sweet Mango was our favorite!

They also offer free shipping which in our opinion is a must for any ecommerce website. The least expensive product on their website is $8 and for that price they'll ship anywhere in the U.S. and Canada. So for $8 you get great soap, free shipping, and you can feel good about helping a child in need. What more can you ask for?

Since then we had a poor customer service experience with them which kind of turned us off. After doing some more research online it looked like there were quite a few people who also received poor service from them as well.

• Free SSL – Flywheel recently started offering free SSL with every website you have hosted with them. A couple benefits of this is it will save you about $30/year if were to buy your own SSL and it's super easy to set up because you can install right from within the Flywheel as opposed to messing with your hosting provider and SSL certificate provider.

Now this small list doesn't even come close to doing Flywheel justice considering the many other features that you get with their service. Their service and many of their features are great for designers and web design agencies because they make collaboration and transitioning control to other owners super easy. For that reason alone we highly recommend them if you are a web design freelancer or agency.

You're probably thinking “all of that sounds great but what about their pricing?” It starts at $15/month for 1 website which is a little higher than if you were to sign up for something like shared hosting at one of those other hosting companies but we've found it to be well worth it. We would pay $15/month just for their dashboard alone because it's so nice and easy to use.

We're sure you're wondering how it all works exactly. It's pretty easy actually. Every Monday Plated adds a new menu to their website with pictures that you can use to help you choose your meals. Pick the ones that you like best and the following Monday your fresh ingredients will be shipped and delivered to your door on Tuesday. The ingredients come in a 100% recyclable and biodegradable box (which we love) and are kept cool long enough so that they will last 4-5 days if you put them in your refrigerator on Tuesday evening.

You would think that a service like this costs a ton or money but it doesn't. Plated has 2 options for pricing, their membership program and their A-la-Carte pricing. Membership is $10/month and if you're a member each plate only costs $12 (including shipping) as opposed to $15/plate for non members. Keep in mind that Plated has a minimum order of 4 plates so if you are a non-member the minimum you will spend in a month is $60 as opposed to what you would spend as a member ordering 4 plates for $48 plus a $10 membership fee. So even if you're only buying the minimum amount as a member you would save $2 and even more if you order more than 4 plates per month.

Besides the obvious time savings and convenience benefits of using Plated there are also some other great benefits to using their service. We really love spending our money with businesses that are socially and environmentally conscious and Plated does their part to make a difference which we love. For example the ingredients that go into a Plated meal are responsibly sourced. What this means is whenever possible Plated sources their ingredients from local suppliers and American farmers. They consider sustainability when sourcing their nutritious ingredients and they always use ingredients that are in season since out of season ingredients can negatively affect taste.
