Review Time! Simplicity Cosmetics: Primer & Foundation

Two words... Simply amazing!

Simplicity Cosmetics are lite weight, offer great coverage, and most importantly allow your skin to breathe. These qualities cause me to forget that I am wearing makeup. Simplicity Cosmetics offers a rainbow of colors ranging from skin tones to bright blues and purples. Currently Simplicity Cosmetics offers blush, eye shadows, foundation, finishing veil, primer, bronzer, and lip gloss. Each product is created by hand in small batches to ensure quality, which is also a plus when buying cosmetics. This review will focus on the Primer & Foundation I purchased, and later this week I will post another review featuring eye-shadows.

Light - Mineral Sheer Primer:

Simplicity Cosmetic's Mineral Sheer Primer is great for covering blemishes and redness. This is an important product as it is designed to minimize oil and help keep your makeup in place. When using the primer I have found this to be very true, as it helps my makeup to stay in place all day.

Type: Mineral Sheer Primer - Light
Shade: sheer light
Ingredients: silica, rice powder, mica
Packaging: Comes in a 30 gram sifter jar and contains 6 grams of product. Larger jars are used so the primer isn't so packed, making it easier to use.

Mineral Foundation - Natural:

Simplicity Cosmetic's Foundation works best when used with a primer. It's kind of like using a primer undercoat on a wall before you begin painting (you can paint with out a primer, but if you really want to hide blemishes use the primer first). The foundation is very lite weight, which I personally find very impressive.

Type: Mineral Foundation - Natural
Shade: Light with neutral undertones (a bit darker than the ivory shade)
Finish: Medium to heavy coverage - matte finish
Ingredients: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, magnesium stearate, silica, iron oxides
Packaging: Comes in a 25 gram sifter jar and contains 6 grams of product. The jar is wide and flat and works well with kabuki type foundation brushes.

Artist Bio:

Based in Argyle, Texas Sarah expresses her passion for mineral cosmetics through making her own healthy, all natural cosmetics with as few ingredients as possible. Her love of mineral makeup began 8 years ago, and since her discovery of all natural cosmetics she has used nothing else. After a few years of perfecting her formulas, Sarah began selling her products on Etsy -Simplicity Cosmetics- 6 years ago. Nearly all her products are vegan friendly and have the ingredients clearly detailed in each listing. Sarah's goal is to provide high quality natural mineral cosmetics at affordable prices while using the best ingredients. Healthy is her main concern as she states "I stay away from fillers and other ingredients that aren't necessary. There are a few ingredients that you will never find in my products: No Parabens, No Bismuth, No Micronized or Nano Minerals, No Talc, No Dyes & No Cornstarch."

Truly Hypoallergenic:

Since my late teens I have been unable to wear cosmetics due to asthma and allergies to wheat, soy, gluten, eggs, carmine (a dye derived from insects), fish oils and certain dyes (the infamous red 40 & yellow 5). Go to any store that carries cosmetics, from Wal-Mart to Macy's, and you will find that all of these allergens are widely used in cosmetics (often under their chemical names). Most brands do not have allergy warnings listed on the label as it is not required for cosmetics. You maybe wondering why this would be a problem? For those will allergies like mine an allergic reaction is not sneezing, but in fact can be life threatening. The allergic reactions I experience (and risk experiencing each time I hug family or friends who wear cosmetics or perfumes) ranges from severe itching and rashes to the more common reaction of asthma and swelling of the tongue and throat (which are very dangerous). For this reason I have to be extermly careful about the products I use and whom I come into contact with. Please Note: The purpose of stating my health issues is to show how amazing Simplicity Cosmetics truly are. Unlike other brands I can wear Simplicity Cosmetics with out any problems what so ever! Plus they are worry-free as I do not have to worry about my allergies, which for me is amazing.

Testing:
To test Simplicity Cosmetics for this review I applied a small amount to my skin and waited 15 minutes to see what would happen. To my surprise there was NO reaction. So to put Simplicity Cosmetics to the test, to ensure that it is truly safe for those with allergies, I decided to wait until morning when all of my allergy medicines had worn off (currently I take 5 medicines) and repeat the test. I did this to ensure that the products were in fact hypoallergenic. I tried applying the products to the inner area of my wrist first to see how my skin would reaction. I then waited a few minutes and I examined my skin carefully. The vegan products had no reaction at all. No itchiness or redness (and more importantly no asthma attacks). However, the non-vegan products were slightly itchy for me, but still no rashes or asthma attacks. I have talked with many women and found most people with sensitive skin can wear non-vegan products with out problems (I'm just one of the few who can't). Personally I feel more comfortable using vegan products anyway, but this is a personal choice. Having past the first test, I moved on to the next; applying the make-up.

Although it has been around 6 years since I last wore make-up, I could tell right away that Simplicity Cosmetics are very different from the products I used as a teen. The first aspects I noticed was that Simplicity Cosmetics go on smoothly and have nice coverage with out feeling heavy. Even with the primer on under my foundion the cosmetics did not feel as if they are suffocating my skin (as I remember even my Mary Key make up doing). I wore these with out any problems what-so-ever, which considering how badly makeup has reacted with my skin in the past is amazing.

My Personal Opinion:
Personally I love using Simplicity Cosmetics because of the quality of the cosmetics and the simplicity of ingredients found on each label. It is amazing being able to wear makeup again with out getting hives, or worse having an asthma attack. Simplicity Cosmetics feels nice on my skin, very lite and weightless, unlike traditional cosmetics which feel very uncomfortable. I also love that Simplicity Cosmetics has a large selection of Vegan cosmetics (a.k.a carmine-free products). I appreciate that there are carmine-free products available through Simplicity Cosmetics, and I feel better knowing that carmine isn't used in these products. I wish that everyone of my friends and family would switch to Simplicity Cosmetics because of how well these wear, the way it allows your skin to breath, and because of how safe these products are for those with severe allergies. If you or a family member suffers from asthma or allergies I highly recommend trying Simplicity Cosmetics as it is designed with the least amount of ingredients as possbile and is all natural.

My Personal Opinion:
Personally I found this book to be an interesting read because it covers many aspects of cooking. While it does cover a few unusual aspects, the main concept that I walk away with after reading this book is being mindful and thankful for each meal. Wicca in the Kitchen talks of being thankful for every meal and viewing the food we eat as a gift from the Divine. If you are looking for a book about Kitchen Witchery then this book is a must read as it provides in endepth look into this practice, while keeping it realistic.

Why I Choose to Review this Book:
Have you ever wondered what Wicca is really about? This is a question I felt worthy of investigation, and you know how I am when I research something (I never stop until I find a REAL answer). So I have set out to learn what this religion is, not the stereotypical versions, but the religion it self. This has lead me to read more than a few books on the subject. And personally I have found this to be an eye-opening journey. I didn't find Satanic rites, human sacrifices or incantation for summoning demons. Instead I found everyday people like you and me who are seeking to understand their purpose in life, and who also experience a deep longing to have a relationship with the Creator.

Over the next few months I will be reviewing the books I have read here so that others who are curious about Wicca can find books with real information from the view point of those who have practiced the religion.

The information presented in this book is written from the view point of Scott Cunningham, a man who practiced Wicca for over 20 years (this is something very important to look for when reading books about other religions). Scott Cunningham is also one of the best known authors on Wicca, and his book gives an in-depth look into the life of the solitary Wiccan practitioner. This book is written with common terms, not only in how Wiccans view magick, but also in how they practice their religion and live by their moral codes. My Personal Opinion:
Personally this book has opened my eyes to what Wicca is truly about - a connection to the Divine combined with a form of personal empowerment. This book explains the fundamental beliefs and practices of Wicca and the meaning behind the rituals and moral codes witches live by. It blows away preconceived stereotypes of witches as Gothic Emos while presenting a realistic view - that people from all walks of life are Wiccan. After reading this book I have a new found respect for those who are Wiccan, because those who truly follow their faith live by a strict moral code. Harm None is their one rule, which strongly reminds me of the "do unto others as you have them do unto you" rule of Christianity. I have walked away from this book with more understand of another faith, which as helped me to reflect on my own faith with a little more clarity.

If you are searching for a book about Wicca that shows a realistic view I highly recommend this book.

This lovely rosary and protestant prayer beads express the artist's passion and creativity through her careful attention to detail, craftsmanship and her love for choosing unqiue components to create her designs. The rosary and prayer beads featured in this review incorporate genuine gemstones, quality flex-wire, and sterling silver beads and findings. Each set is unqiue with its own theme and artistic design. About The Artist:

My Personal Opinion:

As someone who passionately collects prayer beads, I am impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of Anna Mursin's designs. The hand-crafted charm of her designs set them apart. Unlike rosaries you may find in a traditional store, each aspect from the color of the beads to the findings used to create the design are selected with care and lovingly worked together creating a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

My Thoughts About The Rosary:

I love the crucifix attached to this rosary and its symbolism. Its so rare to see a crucifix that incorporates a star into its design (the star often symbolize the five wounds Christ suffered). I also admire Mrs. Mursin's choice of turquoise and tigers eye beads as they complement each other. The use of cap beads around the tiger's eye is a nice touch as well. The center of the rosary is a miraculous medal which adds to the beauty of this design.

My Thoughts About The Prayer Beads:

The turquoise cross attached to the prayer beads is simply breath taking. I love the design of the cross and the way it is surrounded by five lapis lazuli stones. The symbolism of this piece is beautiful as the five stones symbolize many things such as the five wounds of Christ, the five knightly virtues and to some the five elements. I love Mrs. Mursin's use of color, the turquoise and lapis lazuli complement each other very well. The center is a beautiful triple spiral. Once again, I love the symbolism as this design as it is often symbolic of the Holy Trinity. For this reason the triple spiral is one of my favorite symbols.

This is an important aspect because charms that weigh more than Pandora charms could possibly damage your bracelet. Keep this in mind when purchasing charms that are not crafted by Pandora. This charm passes all my tests and looks wonderful on my bracelet.

The whimsical design of this charm conjures images of strange new worlds light years from our own, and adventures into the unknown (which makes this charm a must have for any sci-fi fan). This charm is finely crafted from genuine sterling silver and features oxidized details. Underneath the charm is stamped “925” indicating the charm's content of pure silver. This charm fits my Pandora bracelet perfectly, and it also fit all of my other Pandora-style jewelry. Unlike genuine Pandora charms this charm simply slips on to the bracelet with ease, instead of twisting onto the bracelet. When I compared this charm to a genuine Pandora charm they were identical in weight. The weight of a charm is very important as charms that weigh more than Pandora charms could possibly damage your Pandora bracelet. This is something to keep mind when purchasing charms that are not crafted by Pandora.

What Does It Mean?:

The design of this charm was inspired by the TV series Star Trek, from the race known as the Vulcan. In the series this hand gesture meant “live long and prosper”. This charm is a nice keep sake for any Sci-Fi fan.

I love the unique design of this charm as it adds personality to my Pandora bracelet. The quality and craftsmanship of this charm is impressive. I am very pleased with my order and highly recommend Purple Turtle Porium to those searching for truly unique charms.

A few weeks ago I won this lovely pendent during the design a pendent contest held by Trudie Davies Designs. My personal Opinion:

Trudie's pendent has become one of my favorites. This pendent looks well with both casual and formal outfits, and the inspirational message on the pendent is of personal significance. “Dare to Dream” is a statement that has many meanings for me. It inspires me to think outside of the box, to dream of who I truly want to be, and to become that person. It also encourages me to dream of a better world, one in which my dreams are a reality. And finally this simple statement reminds me of my Daddy's last piece of advise- don't be afraid to live outside the box, be eccentric, and live life to its fullest. He was truly a master of this, one of the qualities which made him so much fun to be around. Where others would find reasons to be discouraged in life, he would find reasons to enjoy life. There are always rays of light amongst the darkness. He saw the opportunity to uplift others, while at the same time working to change things for the better.

Review Time: The Illusionist Locket

The Illusionist Locket is an original design created by woodworking artist Jim Anderson. He found his inspiration for this design in the transforming locket featured in the film “The Illusionist”. Although the scene depicting the locket in the film is brief, it has inspired many to try their hand at creating a working replica. However the scene is somewhat misleading, as two separate lockets were used in the film to achieve the locket’s transformation. This did not discourage Jim Anderson, who after watching the film set out to create a functional illusionist locket for his wife. Several prototypes later, he did what Hollywood could not- create a functional illusionist locket that held not one but two photos. His line of Illusionist Lockets feature many improvements that Hollywood could not dream of, showing the originality and genus of his design.

The Locket's Components:

Each Illusionist Locket is hand-crafted from high quality materials and is built to withstand the tests of time. The components are custom made to ensure quality. Due to the time and skill involved in the making of the Illusionist Locket a brake down of its components is in order.

Transforming Butterfly:

The butterfly design on this locket transforms into a tulip when the locket is twisted from an oval shape into a heart (just like the locket featured in the film). These symbols were chosen not only for their beauty, but for their meaning as well. The butterfly is symbolic of true beauty, faithfulness, resurrection and transition. In Christianity it is also viewed as a symbol of rebirth. Tulips are symbolic of perfect love. And white tulips symbolize heaven, newness and purity. The inlays that form the designs are set into the wood of the locket, creating a design that will not wear off over time. Each inlay is custom made and is available in white acrylic, sterling silver, and solid 14k gold.

Lets Talk About Wood:

The locket featured in this review is crafted from cocobolo, an exotic wood that is imported from South America. Cocobolo is a heavy, dense wood that is very durable. It features rich tones and a lovely grain. As a woodworking artist Jim Anderson has a deep passion for the beauty and versatility that this wood offers. Each piece of wood chosen to create an Illusionist Locket is hand selected to ensure beauty and quality. His experience in woodworking leads him on the hunt for the most beautiful woods available. To ensure that the beauty of the wood will be preserved for many years wooden lockets are injected with a plastic polymer to stabilize the wood. The polymer gives the wood a smooth polished finish, that is very similar to glass and it makes the wood water resistant (personally I find these aspects very impressive). Illusionist Lockets are available in a variety of woods, and colorful acrylics. Lockets are available in three different sizes oval, slim and thin. The locket featured in this review is the thin style, Height :1.4" 35.5 mm Width: 0.7" 17.8 mm Thickness: 0.45" 11.4 mm Picture Diameter: 0.36" 9.1 mm

Bails:

The bail of this locket (the loop which allows the locket to hang from a necklace) is very sturdy and durable. Bails used in illusionist lockets are high quality with a thickness that will allow the pendent to last for many years without needing to be repaired. Each bail is custom made from sterling silver, 14kt yellow gold, or 14kt white gold. The price largely depends on the components from which the locket it is made. The locket featured in this review sells for $220 USD featuring a sterling silver bail and is the most popular choice. Lockets that feature all gold components are around $360 USD. Given the quality and uniqueness of illusionist lockets they are well worth the price.

On his website Jim Anderson also offers a variety of leather necklaces to wear your locket on. The necklace featured in this review is crafted from smooth brown leather and features a sterling silver lobster claw clasp. The locket featured in this review arrived in a beautiful gift box. This box is very useful for storing the locket when you are not wearing it. Usually I do not review the box included with a piece jewelry, but this box is not your ordinary gift box.

Picture Punch:

The picture punch included with the locket is heavy and durable. It allows you to easily cut pictures to the exact size to fit perfectly into the locket.

Instructions:
Step by step instructions are presented in an easy to follow and understand format. Making adding pictures to your locket a simple task.

Certificate of Authenticity:

Each locket is a hand-crafted work of art and is numbered with a Certificate of Authenticity.

How It Works:

Opening the illusionist locket is almost a magical experience, as the components flip themselves into the desired locations with ease. You maybe asking yourself “how is this possible?”. Although the locket's transformation seems mysterious, its functioning is due to a very complex and well constructed design. Ten tiny, yet power magnets work to repel or attract each other allowing the locket's components to flip into the desired locations. The locket also contains five locating balls which precisely align the pieces of the locket into place. When the locket is twisted the parts move into the various configurations smoothly and without catching (regardless of how many times the locket is opened). The internal picture frames within the locket are surrounded by decorative hand-crafted brass. Aside from the decorative purpose of the frames they also provide a rotation housing which privets the locket making its transformation possible.

My Personal Opinion:
Personally I feel that Illusionist Lockets are truly unique, as I have never seen any locket that draws my attention the way this locket has (I can't stop holding and twisting the locket, it is very additive!). The precession, craftsmanship and heirloom quality of the locket are superb. Every aspect of the locket down to the smallest detail is well designed, allowing the locket to function with ease. Illusionist Lockets are a wonderful way to keep your loved ones close, and preserve their memory for generations. They are also wonderful pieces of wearable art, as each one is unique.
