What you need to know

Rumors claim Samsung could launch the Galaxy S27 series earlier in 2027, in January; however, February could be the next best bet.

Other rumors suggest Samsung is still struggling with the ongoing memory crisis, and it's "unsure" if it can bring upgrades to the Pro and Ultra.

Storage and RAM upgrades were rumored throughout this year, but the tale's been consistent with Samsung's apparent uncertainty behind it.

The beginning of the year (Q1, really) is when we expect Samsung's next flagships. Rumors claim the company could start 2027 off with a bang.

A report by tipster Lanzuk on Naver (Korean) over the weekend suggests Samsung could debut its phones within the first two months (via Android Authority). Here's where things get tricky. The tipster suggests Samsung is leaning toward a January launch; however, things could get pushed into "February at the latest." While exciting, Samsung is still grappling with a few internal problems.

We've seen a Galaxy S27 Pro rumored for next year's series quite often, and this report concerns it, too. The post alleges that Samsung is still trying to sort out the memory/storage specifications for the S27 Pro and the S27 Ultra. The current crisis with these two pieces of hardware is a contributing factor, with the tipster stating Samsung must decide and consider the "scope of implementation."

The post states Samsung wants to implement UFS 5.0 (storage) and LPDDR6 (RAM) in the S27 Pro and Ultra.

Trying times for flagships

(Image credit: Derrek Lee / Android Central)

You might remember that the Galaxy S26 series launched in late February. However, the Galaxy S25 series launched in mid-January. We've seen Samsung bounce between these early months before, so we'll have to see where it lands next year.

As far as the RAM/storage rumors go, the UFS 5.0 rumor was brought up earlier this year, claiming not every S27 phone would get it. But we've seen many of the same topics brought up: "price and mass production." It wasn't clear which phones would get it, but speculation sided with the Galaxy S27 Ultra, at least. The RAM upgrade was a bit of a mixed bag. One report said the next Ultra might miss it completely as Samsung shifted gears toward other companies' "limited edition" phones.

Now it's back on the table, but it's still anyone's guess as to whether the Pro and Ultra will see it. The publication (Android Authority) brought up Samsung's chip issue: reports claimed Qualcomm's Elite Extreme was overheating, and Samsung might have to consider its Exynos instead. It found that Qualcomm has recently denied such claims. Who knows by this point. We'll have to wait and see.

What you need to know

Google is automatically linking your phone number to every signed-in account on Android, including secondary work and alternate profiles.

Surprise verification emails are raising privacy concerns. Users say they received notifications without explicitly opting in.

You can disable automatic verification under Settings > Google > All services > Phone number verification, though some users report the setting switches itself back on.

Google is automatically linking phone numbers on Android to every Google account signed in on that same device, even if they are secondary work accounts or alternate profiles. The feature is meant to keep Google services running smoothly, but its default-on nature is raising questions about how much control users actually have over their personal information.

Some users took to Reddit to report that they're getting surprise emails from noreply-phone-verification@google.com saying their numbers have been verified (via TechRadar).

The setting allows Google and mobile carriers to periodically re-verify numbers, according to Google’s official documentation. The process enables services such as account recovery, RCS messaging, emergency features, and Quick Share. The problem is that the setting also links those numbers to every Google account signed in on the device.

That could be a problem for anyone that consciously splits out personal, work, and disposable accounts. Another relationship that a user may want to keep separate between profiles is a phone number associated with a secondary account. And since the feature doesn’t require an explicit opt-in prompt, users might not know anything has changed until they get a verification email.

Back on Reddit, users shared their experiences and theorized about why the process occurs on its own. You can fortunately check the setting yourself. Head over to Settings > Google > All services > Phone number verification and disable "Verify phone numbers automatically." Menu labels may vary slightly depending on the device.

But some users also say the setting sometimes turns itself back on after being turned off.

It's worth noting that just turning it off will not delete the current links. Go to the Personal Info page of your Google Account, select Contact info > Phone, and delete your number from any accounts you don’t want it to appear on.

Google says it is for practical reasons. But convenience is no substitute for informed consent. The company hasn’t said why it made such a sharp turn or if it plans to reverse it, officially. Until then, it’s up to you to repeatedly babysit your privacy settings and scrub your number from accounts where it doesn’t belong.

Android Central has contacted Google for comment and will update this story when we hear back.

What you need to know

YouTube is reportedly planning to launch audiobooks for its Premium subscribers.

Audiobooks could arrive for the platform's ad-free $16 subscription plan in 2027 if this goes without a hitch for Google/YouTube.

YouTube would run into competition with the likes of Spotify (audiobooks arrived in 2023) and Audible.

Audiobook-enjoyers might have something to celebrate on YouTube. There are rumors that the platform is looking to enter a new market for its Premium subscribers.

A post by the Wall Street Journal (paywalled) highlighted rumors that YouTube Premium could soon offer audiobooks in one of its subscription plans (via GSMArena). Supposedly, Google has been "talking with publishers" about bringing audiobooks onto the platform in 2027.

Early reports allege YouTube Premium would offer audiobooks in its ad-free plan, which currently runs consumers $16 a month. What's interesting is that this could solve an issue: piracy. GoodEReader brought this up in its coverage, highlighting data that shows "45% of listeners" consume "audiobooks" on YouTube. The air quotes (and literal quotes) are warranted here, as the publication states these are AI-narrated, not authentic.

Audiobooks in YouTube Premium would give users the best experience possible, away from false creations. However, it's worth remembering that these are rumors, and nothing's been confirmed by YouTube yet.

YouTube's branching out

Android Central's Take

This is one of those things where you can associate a product or a feature or a form of entertainment with the name. If I think Spotify, I think music. If I think Audible, I think audiobooks. When I think of YouTube... I do not think about audiobooks (nevermind the fact that I prefer reading over an audiobook). I wonder how large of a market there is for YouTube. But I guess there must be if there's a piracy problem, and they're using AI voices. Crazy.

Many should be well-acquainted with Audible's audiobook offerings. In recent history, Spotify has joined that market, taking the fight directly to Audible with over 200,000 "free" titles. That was how it all started, anyway. When audiobooks launched for Spotify Premium in 2023, the platform gave its subscribers in the U.S. and the U.K. 15 hours of listening per month.

After you exceeded your limit, you could pay an additional $12.99 to get 10 more hours "or buy them a la carte." Spotify's library exceeded that initial 200,000 for Premium subscribers. But if you wanted more, you'd have to buy them individually. Spotify then launched its "Audiobook Access" tier for $9.99, giving users the same 15 hours of listening per month deal.

It goes without saying that YouTube will have its work cut out for it by stepping into this new world.

I fondly remember owning my first BlackBerry, and then my second ... and third. The smartphone was a sign of prestige, a device you could fit in your pocket with both a screen (later also a touchscreen in some models) and a miniature QWERTY keyboard. It was genius. That is, until elongated, touchscreen-only phones started coming to market, namely the first iPhone. Suddenly, BlackBerrys weren't so trendy anymore.

What's old becomes new again, however — a statement that fits almost every industry, from fashion to music and even tech. Clicks Technology, a U.K.-based hardware company with team members who previously worked for BlackBerry and within the BlackBerry space, is leaning into this trend. Growing from its first keyboard case, there are two devices coming this year: the Clicks Power Keyboard, which is now shipping, and the hotly anticipated Clicks Communicator, which should launch in December.

"Something was thrown out with the bathwater when we moved to modern smartphones," Jeff Gadway, co-founder of the company (and former marketing director at BlackBerry), explained in a recent interview. His company aims to bring it back — and possibly a little magic to a market that could sorely use some fresh ideas.

I saw both devices in prototype form at CES 2026 earlier this year, and in an interview with Gadway, discussed how the company is bringing razzle dazzle back to mobile.

Clicks then and now

(Image credit: Christine Persaud / Android Central)

Clicks introduced its first keyboard case for iPhone in 2024, eventually expanding to make cases for select Android phones, too. To say people were excited would be an understatement. "It was like catching lightning in a bottle that first year," Gadway told me during a recent podcast interview.

Interestingly, it wasn't just nostalgia-fueled business executives but also younger folks from the digital native generations who were intrigued. Young adults who had never used anything but a touch- or voice-controlled phone loved the concept as much as they are now learning to love vinyl, CDs, and wired earbuds.

The company has since developed the Power Keyboard, a MagSafe enabled keyboard accessory you can use with any MagSafe-enabled phone or case, or any Bluetooth input device, for that matter. The Communicator is an Android phone reminiscent of a BlackBerry Bold that combines a small screen with a miniature QWERTY keyboard.

The Power Keyboard is universal

The Power Keyboard solves the biggest issue with the original Clicks Keyboard Case: needing a fitted case for every model phone. Instead, this version is magnetic, clipping vertically or horizontally onto the back of any MagSafe-enabled phone or phone case and functioning as a power bank with a slide-out keyboard.

It isn't limited to phones: Use it handheld with a tablet or even as a Bluetooth mini keyboard for your smart TV. If you've ever attempted to enter a password into an app using your TV's remote and on the on-screen keyboard, you know how frustrating that experience can be. Gadway says the use cases run the gamut, from students using this in class with their phone instead of bringing a laptop, to CEOs, writers, and musicians being productive on the go.

Clicks Communicator reminds you what a phone is for

Taking things a step further, the Clicks Communicator is designed to remind us of the true purpose of a mobile phone: communication. Newer smartphones are designed for content consumption and creation with bigger screens, cameras, processors, and batteries, says Gadway. "What if you could build a phone that was really optimized for communication?"

There are two ways you might use the Communicator. The first is as a secondary phone with its own plan or tethered to your primary device. Maybe you have a company-provided phone on which you aren't permitted to download personal apps. The Communicator can be that secondary device to keep in touch with family, access banking and social media apps, play games, and more. The difference between the Communicator and another smartphone is that the smaller, utility-type screen makes this possible, but it's not optimized for going down the rabbit hole of endless scrolling.

The second is as a primary phone, which Gadway told me is how a lot of pre-order customers have said they want to use it. The Communicator sits between a dumbphone, which eliminates access to distracting apps altogether, paring down the experience to bare bones communication, and a full-featured premium smartphone.

The Communicator is a full Android 17 device, though, with access to the Google Play Store, a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, a 50MP main camera, and a 24MP front-facing camera. Clicks even upgraded the RAM to 12GB prior to the official launch. It has legacy features you won't find in most modern phones, like a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot to expand the built-in 256GB storage.

The key is in the design: a touchscreen occupying the top three-quarters (4.03 inches, 120Hz) and a bottom keyboard. It's a constant reminder that this isn't a phone to doomscroll TikTok and Instagram or get caught up in mobile games. You can do that. But you won't want to, and that's a good thing.

Other simple features are meant to further encourage focus, like a signal light, similar to the HiLight button in the Google Pixel 11 Pro series phones. Customize it with illuminating colors so you know when an incoming call or message is from your mom, child, spouse, or business partner versus a spam call or an old friend you don't have time to chat with right now.

Clicks is working with Niagara to build a custom Android launcher that can curate messages from your favorite apps on the home screen. Triage these apps, Gadway explains, to help prevent you from getting "sucked into side quests."

"What we're doing with Niagara," he explains, "is creating a version of this that taps into the hardware of Communicator using the touch-sensitive keyboard to scroll through your messages, and the keys themselves to delete, reply, forward, or mark as unread right from that home screen without ever having to actually go into the app itself. So, it's a much more purposeful home screen experience."

Clicks represents a return to form

Modern smartphones do more than ever. But there's something inherently missing from the experience. It stems from nostalgia, for those who grew up using phones with keyboards. But there's also value from a usability perspective for a younger generation who never put their hands on one.

Gadway says that with the original Keyboard Case, 40-45 percent of buyers had never used a BlackBerry before. "They wanted to reshape their relationship with technology, have some tech that was a little more intentional, a little more purposeful, and that allowed them to get their screen real estate back and have a more satisfying tactile experience."

"Touchscreen smartphones are amazing," Gadway said recently. "They do so many things. And yet they lack some of that tactility and the ability to accomplish certain things from your phone that you wait to do back at your desk."

Originally, Clicks was positioned, at least in the minds of those who clamored to get a look at the original case years ago, as a throwback to simpler times. Today, with the latest generation products, it's evident that a physical keyboard is no longer just catering to the BlackBerry faithful. "There is a much bigger audience than we expected," says Gadway. Touchscreens and voice activation aren't going anywhere. But there's something about tactile feel that even the younger generations yearn to experience, too.

A Delaware jury found Arm guilty of the breach and of "interfering" with Qualcomm's business relationships, and as a result, Qualcomm was awarded $2 in damages — $1 for each offense.

While the jury officially sided with Qualcomm, Arm saw it differently. In a statement, the company said "the jury’s verdict confirms that Arm operated in good faith under its technology license agreement and its award of only two dollars confirms the merit of Arm’s arguments in the ‌case."

This likely won't be the end of Qualcomm and Arm's court dates. According to Reuters, Qualcomm has more to bring up, which it will likely do in court with Judge Maryellen Noreika. Since Arm neglected its responsibilities of providing the necessary tools for its chips, Judge Noreika could rule that Qualcomm can "stop paying royalties to Arm for five years." This is something Qualcomm has been after since this dispute began.

So far, Arm is against such a ruling. It remains to be seen what will happen.

Qualcomm's allegations

Qualcomm and Arm's court case began in early October. The former wants to freeze royalty payments for up to five years, a ruling Judge Noreika will have to decide in the future. But it all started after Qualcomm’s 2021 acquisition of the chip startup Nuvia. As stated before, Qualcomm alleged Arm "violated its contract" by withholding its chip-testing tools.

Beyond this were Qualcomm's business relationships. The company claimed Arm "leaked its threat to end a key license in 2024." This reportedly hurt Qualcomm's potential chip deal with Meta that year. Qualcomm said this leak dropped $170 million off its deal with Meta. Arm denied that it was linked to any of this. Instead, Meta's change of heart from VR headsets to AI glasses was the real reason, the company claimed.

There's still a concern that the fallout of these cases could impact future phone prices. Price negotiations and control over CPU technology could be hit the hardest.

What you need to know

YouTube Music is labeling AI-generated songs to help listeners identify AI involvement.

YouTube combines partner disclosures with AI detection tools to identify tracks, even when creators leave disclosure fields blank.

YouTube plans to bring AI labels to its main video platform, extending transparency beyond music streaming.

YouTube Music is rolling out new labels that tell listeners when generative AI played a big part in making a song. The labels will appear directly on the music player, providing users a more transparent idea of what they are listening to without having to sift through descriptions or wonder if a track was created by a human artist or an AI model.

The feature covers music created largely with AI, including songs where generative models contribute both the composition and vocals. Tap a label, and a menu appears with more information about the song’s AI participation. YouTube says the labels will eventually reach its main video platform as well.

The move comes as generative AI makes it easier to produce music at scale. The challenge for streaming services is to help listeners distinguish between AI-assisted work and AI-made work, without treating all use of AI as the same.

YouTube pairs creator disclosures with detection tools

YouTube is using a mix of disclosure from its music partners and its own detection tools instead of relying on artists and music distributors to flag AI-created content. Partners can identify delivered tracks as “Fully Gen AI”, “Partly Gen AI”, or “No Gen AI” through supported metadata workflows.

This distinction is important since an artist using AI to help in a certain part of the production is not the same as a fully AI-generated song. The labels are not intended to lump every AI-assisted track into one category but rather to provide more context for listeners about that difference.

YouTube's help page says it may use additional signals when partners don't provide AI information. If the platform can detect that a track has content created by AI, it could be marked as fully or partially AI-generated. Therefore, not entering anything in the disclosure field is no guarantee a song won’t be tagged.

Not an AI-free listening experience, but transparency

The new labels are not a prohibition on AI-generated music. Instead, YouTube is providing listeners with more information on how tracks were made and letting them choose what belongs in their playlists.

That approach puts the spotlight on transparency as AI music becomes more prevalent across streaming platforms.

I would love to see AI labels become the standard for everything I consume online, from music and videos to news articles and social media posts. I’m not necessarily against content produced by AI, but I want to be told that I’m hearing or seeing it before I decide what I think about it.

YouTube Music adding these labels is moving in the right direction, and I’d welcome the additional transparency. I just hope the labelling on YouTube is accurate, because a disclosure system is only useful if listeners can trust it.

This includes the original Google Home from 2016, Home Mini, Nest Mini and Nest Audio. The Google Home Max isn’t included in this testing round.

The release comes as Google continues to refine its smart home experience, where voice commands and connected devices are supposed to work together without users having to fight their setup. It’s especially the case for older smart speakers, which still have utility for basic tasks as Google’s newer hardware and software evolve.

The original Home Mini was released in 2017, followed by the Nest Mini in 2019 and Nest Audio in 2020. These speakers can still handle everyday requests, but their age means they’re not necessarily getting the same attention as Google’s newer products. That said, better software can extend their usefulness.

For owners, the bigger question is whether these changes will just keep existing speakers ticking over or make them more reliable and convenient. Smart speakers are only as good as the assistants inside them, and Google’s software updates could help older Nest speakers remain useful, even as newer hardware and features arrive.

But software updates can only go so far. Older speakers can still manage basic smart home tasks and play audio, but those expecting a major upgrade should temper their expectations.

Google’s latest moves prove it hasn’t totally forgotten about its older Nest lineup. That’s good news for those who would rather keep a perfectly functional speaker than replace it just to stay “current.”

Owners can join the preview

Owners who want to give it a try can go to the Google Home app, tap on their speaker, go to Settings > Device information > Preview program, and sign up if they are eligible. The firmware will install automatically overnight. Google expects to roll it out more widely over the next few weeks but hasn’t given a specific date.

There’s a separate October Google Home update too, improving Gemini for Home conversations, voice commands, weather responses and device controls in the app.

What you need to know

Rumors on social media claim Nothing is working on two smart glasses variations: one with a camera and one without.

The "audio-equipped" version will reportedly let users place/receive calls and feature transition lenses.

The camera version would offer similar capabilities to the audio-only one; however, it may feature translation capabilities, ChatGPT, and more.

Earlier rumors this year suggested Nothing's CEO Carl Pei moved the company down this route with a potential release in 2027.

Nothing has made Android phones, headphones, and earbuds. However, recent rumors claim the company wants to branch out into smart glasses.

Rumors got underway on Bluesky by tipster Roland Quandt, who claims Nothing is working on a pair of smart glasses (via GSMArena). The tipster suggests the brand could launch two variations of its smart glasses: one with a camera and one without. Regarding the "audio-equipped" glasses, rumors purport Nothing's take could feature "auto-tinting photochromic lenses."

Otherwise known as "transition lenses," Nothing's smart glasses could darken (like sunglasses) when outside before clearing once you're inside. Quandt adds that these glasses would closely integrate with your phone's AI assistant and let users place/receive calls.

The alternative is the alleged camera-equipped version. Rumors on Bluesky state this pair would also provide translation capabilities and ChatGPT. There's little else about these alleged Nothing-branded smart glasses, so take these rumors with a grain of salt.

Nothing Glasses 1 (remember that?)

(Image credit: Nicholas Sutrich / Android Central)

This would be the second time we've heard rumors about Nothing smart glasses (or a Nothing Glasses 1, as we've joked before). Earlier this year, a report claimed that Nothing CEO Carl Pei began making moves within the company to bolster the development of AI smart glasses. It was alleged that these lenses would feature a camera, speaker, and microphone.

Compared to what we've seen on Bluesky, some of these aspects could be separated. That report suggested that these smart glasses wouldn't be able to "handle everything" on their own. They would lean/rely heavily on your phone. For example, it was speculated that the glasses would rely on your phone for "the cloud to handle AI processing." It's unclear if things have changed, but Nothing might reveal these glasses in 2027.

It'll be interesting to see how Nothing handles a camera on smart glasses. We've seen the major backlash Meta has received. Cameras on smart glasses raise serious privacy concerns for many people. No one wants to be recorded constantly without their consent.

Android Central's Take

I'm really interested in what Nothing smart glasses would look like. I like the design its given its phones. It's different, and might seem like an acquired taste to some. I wonder if Nothing would go the transparent route, or would it try and match whatever design its next phones are going with? A unified direction could work out nicely for a brand that's already turning heads with its aesthetic.

But now, Google wants to expand that experience to hardware as well. As spotted by 9to5Google, the company has added a new "Shop devices" section within the Play Store that lets users shop for not only Google Pixel phones and Pixel Watches, but also Samsung Galaxy devices.

The new Shop Devices option appears when you tap your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Google Play Store. Selecting it opens the Google Store where you can browse and purchase Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices.

Currently, the portal lists several devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Ultra, alongside Google's own products like the Pixel 10a, Pixel Watch 4, Pixel 11 Pro Fold, Google TV Streamer, Pixel 11, and Pixel 11 Pro.

Other devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 8, are also listed. However, it doesn't appear to be a complete storefront for either brand just yet, with only select devices available for now. Google could expand the selection as more products are added to the portal.

It's worth noting that eligible Google One subscribers can also take advantage of the 10% Google Store credit benefit when purchasing supported devices through the portal. You can then use the 10% credit towards any other future Google Store purchase.

But perhaps the more interesting part is that Google doesn't seem to have updated the prices of Samsung's Galaxy S26 series in the new shopping section.

For those unaware, Samsung recently increased the prices of the Galaxy S26 lineup in the U.S. by $100, meaning the base Galaxy S26 now starts at $1,000, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra starts at $1,400.

However, the Shop Devices portal still shows the older, lower prices for both phones. So, at least for now, you may be able to pick up the Galaxy S26 or Galaxy S26 Ultra for less than Samsung's revised pricing, although it's worth checking the final price at checkout.

That said, if you're specifically looking for a deal on the Galaxy S26 series, it's still worth comparing prices with retailers like Amazon, where you might find better discounts than what's available through Google's new shopping portal.

But it looks like Android 17 could soon be able to diagnose and fix some of these problems for you.

Google has been building out its Pixel troubleshooting and diagnostics tool for a while now. Pixel phones can already check for issues related to battery health, connectivity, Bluetooth, and even touchscreen problems. But now, it looks like Google is expanding these tools to help users fix calling, Wi-Fi, and mobile data issues as well.

As spotted by Android Police, the recently released Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1, alongside the latest Google Play Services beta, introduces new diagnostic tools designed to troubleshoot problems with calls, Wi-Fi, and mobile data. The new options appear under the Device health & support section.

So, if you're having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, experiencing dropped calls, or your mobile data suddenly stops working, you'll be able to open the relevant diagnostic tool and have your Pixel check what's going wrong behind the scenes.

Depending on the issue, the tool could either attempt to fix the problem automatically or guide you through the necessary steps to get things working again. This could save users from having to manually dig through network settings or reset their connections every time something stops working.

For now, these new tools have only been spotted in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 with the Google Play Services beta, so they aren't widely available yet. However, considering they're already showing up in testing, there's a chance Google could introduce them with the stable Android 17 QPR3 release early next year.

Given how frequently Pixel owners have complained about connectivity issues over the years, having built-in tools that can actually help diagnose and fix those problems could be a pretty useful addition.

Drivers will not have to do anything themselves to install it, as the changes will come automatically over the next few weeks.

The Play Store refresh is meant to make the app-finding process less painful. Google notes that there are already more than 700 available apps on compatible vehicles, but the new interface should help make browsing that catalog a lot easier. You'll see featured apps, new releases, and useful app details directly on the homepage, and curated collections will help you find options depending on whether your car is parked or moving.

Google is also moving on from one-size-fits-all interfaces. The new storefront will be able to adapt to the size, shape, and orientation of each vehicle’s infotainment display. One-tap downloads will make it easier and quicker to get new apps.

And there’s more to come. STARZ, Firefox, Ludo King, and JioHotstar are coming to the in-car app lineup, giving you more ways to stream shows, browse the web, and play games while you’re parked. These additions should make the charging stops and waiting periods more useful for passengers and drivers taking a break.

YouTube finally makes driving less annoying

The bigger improvement might be YouTube’s new background playback behavior. Previously, starting a drive would stop YouTube playback. In the new update, you can watch a video while parked and automatically switch to audio-only playback as you shift into drive.

That means podcasts, interviews, and other videos can continue to play without distracting visuals on the dashboard. The catch is, you’ll need a YouTube Premium subscription to take advantage of the feature.

Google has talked about this park-to-driving functionality before, but the latest announcement confirms it’s coming to YouTube on cars with Google built-in. Don’t confuse this with Android Auto, which shows compatible phone apps on a car’s display. Google has not said if the same automatic background playback feature is coming to Android Auto.

The updates will be pushed automatically to eligible vehicles over the next few weeks.

So have patience this week and into next. If you're curious, Nothing states Phone 3 users should head into Settings > System > System Update to check if their device is ready to download/install.

(Image credit: Nicholas Sutrich / Android Central)

Nothing OS 5 is huge—beyond the fact that it's Android 17. In late August, the company launched the software's open beta, encouraging Phone 3 users to join. Highlights include the system's new typeface, Geist. This typeface is "cleaner and easier to scan." It joins other refreshes to the device's UI's status bar, camera, Settings, and Gallery.

Elsewhere, you'll find the Glyph Interface inside a dedicated app. All features and sounds are housed in one place.

Nothing's Essential AI tools have been upgraded in OS 5. AI features have become a focal point for the company, and its Android 17 update sees it doubling down. Real-time transcriptions have been improved, and Smart Collections can "suggest and organize content for you automatically."

All of this and more (deeper personalization, lock screen upgrades, etc.) are packaged neatly in Nothing OS 5.

One down, more to go

<img id="YiunMqnMvHJ57jVzLdsBND" name="nothing-os-5-roadmap" alt="An updated roadmap for Nothing's OS 5.0 (Android 17) update. However, we're still waiting on several more updates. Nothing's updated roadmap shows that the Phone 4a, Phone 4a Pro, and the Phone 3a and 3a Pro are still in their respective Open Betas. These devices entered the Open Beta program in September.

There's a chance a General Release could arrive later in October or November for these phones.

What you need to know

Samsung’s Galaxy Glasses could weigh just 41 grams with standard lenses, making them lighter than earlier leaks suggested.

Battery life could reach nine hours, with the charging case extending total runtime to 72 hours.

Gentle Monster reportedly offers six frame designs across 16 variants, while Warby Parker plans three styles with multiple color and lens options.

A November launch is reportedly planned, with Gentle Monster models targeting South Korea and the US, and Warby Parker versions initially limited to the US.

Samsung’s first AI-enabled smart glasses might be lighter than previous leaks have suggested, and they look to be available in a wider range of designs than we’ve seen so far.

New information obtained by SammyGuru reveals that the upcoming Galaxy Glasses weigh around 41 grams with standard lenses, alongside a detailed look at frame options from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

Previous reports, meanwhile, have put the glasses in the range of 46 to 50 grams. Of course, prescription lenses will certainly add some weight, but the exact amount will depend on the model. If Samsung can keep the hardware this light, the glasses may be more comfortable for everyday wear.

The glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip inside, with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The 12MP camera captures video at 3K resolution and 30 frames per second, and there are four microphones for calls and talking to Google Gemini. The audio comes through two open-ear speakers so you can still hear the world around you.

These glasses do not include a display but instead focus on hands-free AI assistance, photography, and audio instead of information in front of your eyes. It boasts a 155mAh battery that lasts up to nine hours and a charging case that offers a total of 72 hours of battery life. The IPX4 rating should also protect the glasses against sweat and light splashes, but the case itself is not water-resistant.

Samsung seems to be working just as hard on the styling. SammyGuru reports that Gentle Monster has six frame designs in 16 variants, including black, burgundy, cream, and pale lilac.

Warby Parker is also expected to have three named styles — Alden, Reid, and Wren — in colors like dark green, reddish brown, and black. Clear lenses and sunglasses are also said to be available depending on the frame.

The glasses are expected to run Android XR, Google’s operating system for extended reality, with AI features powered by Gemini.

Samsung is reportedly targeting a November release. Gentle Monster models are expected to be available in South Korea and the US, while Warby Parker versions will be US-only at launch. The glasses will be available for purchase through the brands’ stores and websites and Samsung Experience Stores in the US. Pricing and a definitive launch date have yet to be confirmed.

The big question is whether Samsung can assemble a competitive smart glasses offering against Meta’s well-established smart glasses without sacrificing comfort, style, or battery life. At 41 grams, its upcoming eyewear could have a promising starting point, but its success will ultimately depend on how useful Gemini proves in everyday situations.

What you need to know

CMF launched its first speakers: the CMF Speaker S and Speaker M in various colors in a classic milk carton design.

The Speaker S is designed for portability, while CMF empowered the Speaker M with more in-depth audio and clarity for rooms.

Users can take off the Speaker S and Speaker M's volume knobs and panels and 3D print their own designs.

The Speaker S is available for $59, while the Speaker M begins at $109.

CMF recently became its own company in India, divesting from Nothing. The company is now moving quickly with a new product launch that looks like a fresh carton of milk.

This morning (Oct. 12), CMF announced its first wave of speakers: the Speaker S and Speaker M. These speakers take inspiration from classic cartons of milk, but they're packed full of sound for any occasion. CMF says it went with a design that was "something unique" and fit its brand. The Speaker S looks like the milk cartons you'd get in school for lunch. It features a custom-tuned 45 mm driver in a short form factor.

CMF states it worked to enhance the lower frequencies on the Speaker S to achieve "deeper, more resonant bass." What's more, the Speaker S is aimed at portability since it's a bit smaller than the Speaker M. If you have two of the same model (Speaker S, in this case), CMF says users can turn them into "dedicated left and right channels" with Stereo Mode. Users can fill an area with more sound, as if they were using a standard sound system.

If you're sticking with one speaker, CMF's Wide Soundstage brings more audio depth to that solo device. Adaptive Tuning handles the speaker's EQ; however, users can create custom EQs using the Nothing X app.

Party Mode leans on Android's Auracast to sync multiple speakers. CMF states this will work with its speakers and devices from other companies.

The CMF Speaker S features 18 hours of audio playback "at 50% volume with Ultra Bass on." A quick 10-minute charge reportedly delivers one hour of audio. Speaker S supports Tap to Pair, Bluetooth 6.0, and USB-C lossless audio.

The CMF Speaker S is available in white, dark grey, orange, and turquoise. Consumers can purchase the speaker for $59.

Speaker M

The CMF Speaker M retains many of the same features as the Speaker S. Consumers will find Ultra Bass, offering "controlled low-end impact for playlists that need extra weight." This feature toggles on and off, letting users fine-tune their audio experience at a moment's notice. The Speaker M also provides Party Mode, Stereo Mode, Wide Soundstage, Adaptive Tuning, and Custom EQs.

However, the primary difference lies in its design. The Speaker M is taller, with a dedicated subwoofer and tweeter. CMF wanted to up the ante with the Speaker M's audio capabilities over the Speaker S. The post states the Speaker M pushes its clarity and bass for a "balanced" experience when broadcasting in larger rooms.

The Speaker M supports USB-C lossless audio, Tap to Pair, Bluetooth 6.0, Dual Device connection, and more. Its battery will support 18 hours of audio at 50% volume with Ultra Bass enabled, similar to the Speaker S.

Consumers can pick up the CMF Speaker M today (Oct. 12) in white, dark grey, orange, and turquoise for $109.

While the CMF Speaker S and Speaker M may look like completed products, the company says consumers can change their designs. CMF states users can take off the Speaker S and Speaker M's volume knobs and panels and switch them out. You can "mix and match," or you could 3D print your own designs.

CMF has provided users with the STL files required to begin 3D printing.

It also addresses one of the biggest frustrations with wearable devices: battery replacement.

Google says the Edge is its first repairable fitness tracker, with a replaceable battery meant to extend its useful life rather than force owners to replace the whole device when the battery capacity declines.

The Fitbit Edge has an OLED touchscreen that’s 45% bigger and over 40% brighter than the screen on the Fitbit Charge 6, according to the Fitbit Edge product page. It also has a built-in GPS, heart rate monitoring, blood-oxygen tracking, ECG readings, skin temperature sensing, and an altimeter to measure elevation on outdoor workouts. The tracker can automatically detect more activities and gives you the option to track your menstrual cycle on your wrist.

Google is also bringing its Gemini-powered Health Coach to the Edge via a Google Health Premium subscription. It gives you recommendations on what workouts to do and adapts your training plans to your routines and goals. Google Health Premium is free for three months for buyers.

Battery life is another strong selling point. Google says a single charge will last up to seven days, and five minutes of charging will provide a full day of use. It also has a water resistance rating of up to 50 meters and is compatible with Android phones and iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later through the Google Health app.

The Edge is available in Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon finishes, with bands sold separately for interchangeability. A Stephen Curry Special Edition, developed with the four-time NBA champion, costs $220.

But there are trade-offs. The Edge lacks NFC for contactless payments and has no microphone or speaker, so it won’t be a smartwatch replacement for everyone. That said, the Fitbit Edge will be on sale October 27.

What you need to know

Google's Rambler uses AI to clean up voice typing, removing filler words, correcting grammar, and formatting text.

Developer Akshay Kadam has released PixelBoard, a modified Gboard APK that enables Rambler on other Android phones.

Users can reportedly access Rambler by installing PixelBoard and setting it as their default keyboard instead of Gboard.

If you've ever wanted to try the Pixel 11's Rambler feature on your Android phone, you can now do so, although there's a catch.

The Google Pixel 11 series launched earlier this year with several new AI features, including Magic Cue, Magic Capture, and Rambler. For those unfamiliar, Rambler is Google's new AI-powered voice typing feature that offers a much more advanced experience than the regular voice typing we've had on Android phones for years.

Similar to AI voice typing tools that have been available on desktops for a while, Rambler automatically cleans up your speech, fixes grammar and formatting, and removes filler words like "um" and "uh" to give you properly formatted text. It can also understand corrections while you're speaking, add emojis, and even rewrite your text in different tones, such as formal or casual.

Unlike traditional voice typing, though, Rambler doesn't show a live transcription of everything you're saying. Instead, once you've finished speaking and tapped the Done button, it processes your speech and returns a cleaned-up, properly formatted version of what you said.

The feature has been exclusive to the Pixel 11 series so far, but a developer has now found a way to bring it to other Android devices.

Developer Akshay Kadam has shared a modified version of Google's Gboard app, called PixelBoard, on GitHub. The developer has patched the Gboard APK to enable Rambler on Android phones that don't officially support the feature.

According to the developer, you can install the modified APK on your Android device and switch your default keyboard from Gboard to PixelBoard to access Rambler without needing a Pixel 11.

That said, PixelBoard isn't an official Google app, and installing modified APK files always carries security and privacy risks. There's also no guarantee that Rambler will continue working through this method. Since the feature is officially exclusive to the Pixel 11 series, Google could block the workaround through a future Gboard or server-side update.

But if you're curious about Rambler, the developer's GitHub project offers an unofficial way to try the feature without buying a Pixel 11. Just keep in mind that you're installing a modified keyboard at your own risk.

The company states a "Threads Gem" will appear on "public posts and replies that started or continued these (standout) conversations." An automated system within the Threads app is responsible for dishing out these purple badges.

Gems are given based on the level of conversation, "not on how many followers a profile has." The company clarifies that Gems are decided based on a few factors, such as "Perspective." If a conversation or comment brings a fresh take (or a hot take), that could be the catalyst for a Gem badge. Originality is another key player in deciding these new badges.

Threads will also factor in the level of discussion, which seems like the bar for something like this. It states that if the post or reply facilitates "real back-and-forth dialogue" that progresses the thread, that might warrant a Gem.

Everything isn't fair game for Gems on Threads. The document says content is only eligible if you've posted on Threads and you're directly replying to the original post (if you're replying to a reply, that won't count). If you're given a Gem badge, it'll appear publicly for everyone to see, and you'll receive a notification about it.

You're a Gem

(Image credit: Nicholas Sutrich / Android Central)

Android Central's Take

This reminds me of a forum—the Gem badges. If you frequent Reddit, you'll see badges there, too. They're called Awards over there, and they're given by the people. Threads kind of took that same concept, but handed the keys over to its software. I don't think it's a bad idea ... the Gems, not the algorithm part. It brings more of a sense of community. An online community that's interacting and talking through things.

Threads has had a couple of updates worthy of discussion. If we're talking about discussions on the internet (oh boy), you can't leave out the hottest of hot takes. Threads rolled out "ghost posts," otherwise known as disappearing posts. Users can set a ghost post to disappear in 24 hours. Threads says it rolled out ghost posts for "fresh takes/thoughts." Users can post their hot takes and more without "the pressure of permanence or polish."

However, since these are active for a time on the platform, others can reply. If this happens, all replies are sent to your DMs.

Threads had another update earlier this year called "Dear Algo." This is a system that puts users in the driver's seat of the algorithm. You can control what you see on Threads for up to three days via a "request." Users can share their algorithm requests with others to share the vibes.

There are also expectations for when it could arrive for the Galaxy S25 series.

This week, tipster Kailash on X reported that the October 2026 security patch has started arriving globally on the Galaxy S26 series (via SamMobile). Kailash states the update has reached devices in the U.S. and Canada with a 531MB download. Users will download the following version for the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra, respectively: S948U1UES4BZIG, S948U1OYM4BZIG, and S948U1UES4BZIG.

The patch notes are incredibly light. Samsung only details security improvements once the update hits a user's device. There's a large portion of security fixes rolling out for the series—approaching 50 fixes from Google, to be frank. Samsung includes roughly 13 fixes of its own, pushing that total to 62.

Many of Samsung's fixes involve Android 14 to Android 17. It's rolling out fixes to stop malicious attackers from "executing arbitrary code" or accessing system privileges without permission.

On X, Kailash responded to a user regarding the Galaxy S25 series. These phones may see the update "next week." This may involve a global release as well, which would involve the U.S. and other North American regions. But that remains to be seen. Right now, it's the Galaxy S26 series.

An updated future

The updates are rolling out fast and furious for Samsung (kind of). This is a monthly security update, and Samsung is (typically) punctual with them. However, this update is following the full release of One UI 9 (Android 17) for the latest flagship series. The Android upgrade was spotted for the S26 Ultra in the U.S., but T-Mobile users were among the first to receive it.

The Android 17 update was ~4GB, and it was released in September 2026. That security update was late, likely because Samsung wanted to pair it with the Android 17 update. Other devices, such as unlocked models and users with AT&T and Verizon services, hadn't seen the update at the same time. Those users should have started downloading the update in mid-to-late September.

A fresh leak indicates the company will introduce four models in early 2027, with more sophisticated OLED displays reserved for its two priciest phones.

According to pricing details shared by tipster @phonefuturist on X, the Galaxy S27 could start at $899 in the US. The S27 Plus may cost $1,099, followed by the S27 Pro at $1,299 and the S27 Ultra at $1,399. Pricing is expected to vary internationally, with the Ultra potentially priced as high as $1,499 depending on configuration.

🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Galaxy S27 series pricing🇺🇸 US/ 🇰🇷SK | 🌍 Int'l*S27: $899 | $999 — M14+S27+: $1,099 | $1,199 — M14+S27 Pro: $1,299 | $1,399 — M16S27 Ultra: $1,399/$1,499 | $1,499–$1,549 — M16Regional pricing varies. Current targets, subject to change.October 7, 2026

The leaked lineup would be a change for Samsung, which may be adding a Pro model between the Plus and Ultra. The company, though, has not confirmed the phones or their prices, and the tipster describes the figures as preliminary targets.

The more interesting detail is the split display. The regular S27 and S27 Plus are said to come with Samsung’s M14+ OLED panels, while the Pro and Ultra are said to have the newer M16 panels. That difference could see the privacy-display tech included on the more expensive models, while the cheaper-phone buyers miss out.

There is also a financial reason to be cautious. If prices rise, Samsung may have to tweak them pre-launch, possibly negating the perceived savings on the entry-level model. And here’s the awkward flip side: Samsung’s chip business is enjoying a boost from surging AI demand and tight memory supply — but those same market pressures could make its next phones more difficult for regular buyers to afford.

As someone who wants a reliable phone without spending over $1,000, I’d welcome a cheaper standard Galaxy S27. But I’d be annoyed if good screen tech were used as an excuse to push buyers toward more expensive models. Most people shouldn’t have to pay Ultra money to get a premium everyday experience.

These numbers could change as Samsung's next-generation flagship is still months away. Until the company makes an official announcement, buyers should consider the leak as an early pricing guide.

Google stated it will no longer support Safety Signal on the LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. It adds that this termination is the result of "evolving our connectivity and safety capabilities."

Safety Signal will lose support on the Watch 2 and Watch 3 on December 12. For users who've relied on Safety Signal, the company says they will receive "advance notice via email and push notifications." There will be a 30-day transition period once the email arrives. Users can continue to rely on Safety Signal "without a standalone carrier plan" until everything ends on Dec. 12.

Google turns users toward its other emergency safety features like Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check. However, with Safety Signal going away in two months, users will need to rely on a mobile plan or an eSIM when away from their phone.

There when you need them

<img id="edCqZ699QFcsKzNurQafTi" name="Fitbit-Hypertension-Study" alt="A photo of the Google Pixel Watch 3 sitting atop an Android phone showing a "Fitbit Hypertension Study" from Fitbit Labs." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/edCqZ699QFcsKzNurQafTi-1920-80.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="3958" height="2226" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline">

(Image credit: Derrek Lee / Android Central)

Android Central's Take

An unfortunate departure. Safety Signal gave people peace of mind without worrying about an extra fee for another service subscription. The only bright side is that these features are still here. You'll just need a service plan or an eSIM through a supported carrier.

Safety Signal was a useful system. It was the umbrella that covered many of Google's Pixel Watch emergency features without requiring a cell plan. We highlighted Safety Signal in our Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3 overviews as it covered Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and more. The feature let users place "phone-free emergency calls or texts without having subscribed to a service plan." The Google Fi connection on your LTE-enabled Watch 2 or Watch 3 is what would've handled these calls.

While it's unfortunate, it might help that users know these features are still around (it'll just take a little more effort). Nevertheless, Emergency SOS is there on your Pixel Watch to sound an alarm and reach out to your emergency contacts whenever there's danger or an accident. While scary, this might save someone's life. Google also added an extra step for Emergency SOS to avoid accidental calls. Fall Detection is another important feature that leverages its AI algorithms to determine the severity of a fall before asking if you require aid.

What you need to know

Amazon announced its Alexa Tablet series, consisting of the Tablet 12 Pro, Tablet 11, and Tablet 8.

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro sits at the top with a 12-inch display, quad Dolby Atmos speakers, multitasking capabilities (keyboard, stylus), and vibrant and Nanomatte display variants.

Amazon states the Tablet 11 and 8 focus on entertainment and reading comfort, respectively.

The Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499 for its vibrant display and $549 for its Nanomatte display variant—Tablet 11 begins at $329.99; Tablet 8 starts at $229.99.

Amazon announced a new direction for its tablets this morning (Oct. 8), introducing a trio of Android-based Alexa Tablets.

Amazon News revealed the Alexa Tablet line, which consists of the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Tablet 11, and Tablet 8. For context, the numbers refer to each tablet's display size (and its capabilities). Equipped with a 6.5mm aluminum body, the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features a 12-inch display (120Hz refresh rate) and a 3:2 aspect ratio. However, Amazon states the 12 Pro offers two display variations: vibrant and Nanomatte.

To achieve this, the company states it partnered with Corning to create a Nanomatte display that retains the sharpness and clarity you'd find on a standard, vibrant screen. The Nanomatte display was "precision-etched" with anti-glare technology to make it easy to use outdoors.

Amazon also hyped up the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro's 4nm 8-core chip, which is reportedly "nearly three times faster processing and nine times faster graphics than any tablet we’ve ever shipped." The post highlights the tablet's following capabilities: graphics-intensive gaming, 4K streaming, quad Dolby Atmos speakers, and up to 16 hours of video playback. What's more, this wouldn't be an "Alexa Tablet" if Alexa were missing. Amazon states the 12 Pro features Alexa Plus in every facet.

Users can call her forward with "Hey Alexa," or they can tap the "Ask Alexa" button. The AI will mimic the assistant you'd find in other products. The AI can help with smart home controls, answer questions, and more. Additionally, On-Screen Intelligence lets users bring Alexa Plus into their activities. You can share your screen with the AI for greater assistance and "more natural" conversations.

Kindle remains close to Amazon's latest tablet series. According to the company, users can "open a book in the Kindle app, and the device transforms into a distraction-free reading sanctuary." To that effect, the Tablet 12 Pro will silence your notifications and reduce its blue light, which will extend its battery life to ~20 hours.

For longer reading sessions, there's a soft paper tone option, as well as "pure grayscale" and "subtle warmth."

Elsewhere, the Amazon Tablet 12 Pro will launch with two accessories: the Tablet Pro Pen and the Tablet Pro Keyboard.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is available in Graphite with 8/128GB (RAM/storage). Users can pick up the device starting at $499 or $549 for its Nanomatte display variant.

Tablet 11 & 8... and more for kids

The Alexa Tablet 11 and 8 feature the same thin aluminum body as the 12 Pro. However, the former delivers an 11-inch display, while the latter offers an 8-inch screen.

These tablets fulfill a specific purpose. Amazon states the Alexa Tablet 11 focuses more on the cinematic appeal of watching shows, movies, or playing games. This tablet is equipped with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 cinematic aspect ratio with dual Dolby Atmos speakers. Consumers will find 15 hours of video playback and the same Alexa Plus integration as the Pro model.

The Tablet 11 is available in Graphite, Amethyst, and Matcha with an 8/64GB configuration for $329.99.

The Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 settles for the eReader crowd. With its smaller build, Amazon is pushing its reading comfort and 14 hours of video playback. Consumers will find the Tablet 8 for $229.99 with a 4/64GB configuration. The device is offered in Graphite, Rosette, and Teal.

Amazon kept the announcement going with a round of Kids Tablets. Parents will find an 8.7-inch and an 11-inch tablet inside a kid-proof case. While these tablets are available today (Oct. 8), Amazon says these won't ship in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada until October 14.

What you need to know

Samsung has reportedly asked suppliers to cut Q4 smartphone production by 20% to 30%.

The cuts could drop Samsung’s total 2026 production from an expected 270 million units down closer to the early 200-million range.

Skyrocketing smartphone DRAM prices are said to be squeezing margins, forcing Samsung to absorb higher manufacturing expenses or risk alienating buyers with steep price hikes.

Samsung looks set to do something counterintuitive in the smartphone market: make fewer phones rather than continue to make devices that barely make money.

A report from Korean outlet Money Today claims the company has asked suppliers to cut smartphone production by 20% to 30% in the fourth quarter, with rising memory costs making some models harder and harder to sell profitably.

Samsung was previously expected to produce around 270 million smartphones in 2026, but the latest cuts could push that total into the early 200-million range, the report said. Some seasonal slowdown is expected as buyers wait for the next Galaxy S series, but this year's drop is said to be significantly more than expected.

Based on the estimates from TrendForce that are cited in the report, Samsung produced around 240 million smartphones in 2025, which put it on par with Apple as the world’s biggest smartphone maker by volume. This demonstrates the scale that Samsung has been able to hold onto even as competition gets tougher.

The issue apparently has something to do with memory chips. Smartphone DRAM prices have skyrocketed, forcing manufacturers to either raise prices or take a hit on their margins.

That makes a dirty equation for Samsung. Raising phone prices too quickly risks cooling demand, while taking on the higher component costs leaves less cash on every device sold. Making millions more of them doesn’t resolve the problem of a phone making little or no profit.

For consumers it could mean fewer low-margin models, higher prices, and even more focus on Samsung’s premium Galaxy lineup.

Samsung has not officially confirmed the production cuts it is reportedly planning, so the next few months will show if the change is a temporary adjustment or a bigger shift in its smartphone strategy.

Samsung may have just launched its new Galaxy Tab S12 series, but you don't need to spend that much to get a great Android tablet experience. Samsung's previous-generation Galaxy Tab S11, which is still a fantastic tablet, is currently 36% off during Prime Big Deal Days, giving you a massive $355 discount.

If you're in the market for a new Android tablet and want a flagship experience with a big AMOLED display, S Pen support, and desktop-level productivity, this Galaxy Tab S11 deal is definitely worth considering.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S11 is down to just $645 during Prime Big Deal Days, saving you $355 off its usual price. With an AMOLED display, bundled S Pen, flagship Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset, and Samsung DeX support, it's one of the best Android tablet deals right now.View Deal

✅ Recommended if: You want a premium Android tablet with an AMOLED display, included S Pen, expandable storage, and flagship performance without paying Galaxy Tab S12 prices.

❌ Skip this deal if: You already own a recent Galaxy Tab S-series tablet, need the latest hardware, or specifically want the much larger display of Samsung's Ultra models.

If you look around the Android tablet market, you'll rarely find a tablet around this price that offers an AMOLED display, and that's probably the Galaxy Tab S11's biggest strength. Unlike plenty of cheaper tablets that use IPS LCD panels, Samsung gives you an 11-inch AMOLED display, which means richer colors, deeper blacks, and an overall much better experience when watching movies or other content.

Samsung isn't sacrificing performance either. The Galaxy Tab S11 is still powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset and comes with up to 12GB of RAM, so you can throw pretty much anything at this tablet without worrying too much about performance. Whether it's note-taking, gaming, or even some video editing, there's still plenty of power here.

(Image credit: Brady Snyder / Android Central)

Speaking of note-taking, Samsung bundles the S Pen in the box, so you don't have to spend extra if you want to use the tablet for drawing or taking notes in class. There's also a microSD card slot if you want to expand the storage later.

But one of my favorite things about the Galaxy Tab S11 is still its design. The tablet is only 5.5mm thin while still offering an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, making it easy to carry around without giving up the durability you'd expect from a flagship tablet.

On the whole, if you're looking for an Android tablet with flagship specs that doesn't burn a hole in your pocket, the Galaxy Tab S11 is probably the one I'd look at during Prime Big Deal Days. It still gives you a portable design, plenty of performance, S Pen support, and, most importantly, an AMOLED display that you'll actually enjoy looking at.

According to the company, the Aura will start at $1,279. This price will be paired with the device's 12/256GB (RAM/storage) configuration. The Xreal Aura is also offered in a 16/512GB variant, which starts at $1,499.

Xreal started a paid reservation program back in June. The company has shared an update for anyone who put in their early deposit. Xreal states consumers who've "made a paid reservation" can complete their purchase to "secure priority fulfillment." This concerns consumers from the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Korea. The paid reservation Xreal refers to concerns the $99 Launch Credit and the $199 Founder Priority Pass holders.

If you're the latter (Founder Priority Pass), you qualify for "an individually numbered Founder's Edition" if you complete your purchase by October 17. Xreal says the Aura is preparing to ship before the holidays. The company encourages interested parties who haven't reserved their Xreal Aura to do so now. It states that the $199 Priority Deposit program is still active.

Maximum Aura

(Image credit: Xreal Global / X)

As we mentioned before, the Xreal Aura reservation program started in June. The early deposit prices were important, but Xreal also revealed some other interesting bits about the device. The company stated the Aura will feature Google's Android XR and Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite. The glasses are light, weighing in at 95g. Regarding the FOV (field of view), Xreal said the Aura delivers a 70-degree FOV that's "virtually borderless."

Xreal said it focused on making the Aura smart glasses the ideal device for gaming and entertainment. The device will support the Fox Sports app, alongside Amazon MGM Studios' Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, Fallout: Factions, and other games.

With Android XR, consumers will find the full extent of the Play Store to download mobile and tablet apps. Early news about the device's reservations proved fruitful, as Xreal's CEO, Chi Xu, said reservations surpassed 10,000 units. Two of its reservation packages sold out in the process. What's more, Chi Xu said the device's final price will be "no more than $1,500 before tax."

Google has started rolling out a new update for the Pixel Buds that brings several new features, and at the same time, the company has slashed $60 off the Pixel Buds Pro 2's price.

Last month, Google started rolling out a feature for Pixel Buds that lets users control their earbuds' settings just by asking Gemini. While you could already ask Gemini to do things like change the volume, the new integration goes much deeper, letting you adjust the EQ, enable or disable ANC, and change other Pixel Buds settings using your voice.

Alongside that, Google has now started rolling out another sizable update for the Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2a. One of the biggest additions for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is Dynamic Active Noise Cancellation.

Google previously explained that Dynamic ANC automatically adjusts the noise cancellation based on the seal of the earbuds in your ears. So, if the Pixel Buds move slightly and the seal changes, the earbuds can automatically compensate and adjust the ANC accordingly. That feature is now starting to become available on the Pixel Buds Pro 2.

The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are already priced at the lower end of the premium wireless earbuds market, and this Amazon deal shaves another 26% off the sticker price. That brings the Pixel Buds Pro 2 down under $170, which is a stunning price for earbuds that can hang with the best of the best.View Deal

✅ Recommended if: You use a Pixel phone, want strong ANC and Gemini integration, like Google's latest Pixel Buds features, or want premium wireless earbuds for under $200.

❌ Skip this deal if: You don't use Android, want the absolute best battery life, or don't care about Pixel-exclusive features and ecosystem integration.

Google has also added a new tap-to-mute and unmute gesture for calls. So, if you're in an online meeting or taking a phone call, you can simply tap the surface of your Pixel Buds to quickly mute or unmute your microphone.

The Pixel Buds can now automatically pause media playback when you fall asleep as well. This feature requires a paired Pixel Watch to detect when you've fallen asleep, after which your earbuds can pause playback, disable touch gestures, and silence notifications.

(Image credit: Andrew Myrick / Android Central)

Enhanced Live Translate is also starting to roll out. You can now leave your phone in your pocket and start translating using a gesture on the earbuds. Google says the Pixel Buds now work more seamlessly with the Google Translate app to make on-the-go translations easier.

To get these features, make sure you're running the latest version of the Pixel Buds app and look for firmware version release_6.144. You can also manually check for the update by heading to More Settings > Firmware > Check for updates.

And if you've been thinking about buying the Pixel Buds Pro 2, this might be a particularly good time. Thanks to the ongoing Amazon sale, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are currently $60 off, dropping from their usual $230 price to just $170.

So, not only are you getting them for considerably less right now, but Google has also made the Pixel Buds Pro 2 noticeably more capable with the latest software update.
