Monday Morning Musings: What Kind of Service Was That? Edition

May 9th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in The Mission

Good stuff.

I have no idea why but almost every time the ac gets messed with God rocks the service.  This was one of those weeks. Tracey was on the phone arguing with the county that indeed, the ac was not working.  We don’t care what your computer tells you, the temp don’t lie.

Before service I finally Got what The Holy Ghost wanted me to do in the service. So I told my leaders that the plan was out the window.  God wanted to touch some people and He was not sharing with me how that would be done.  I just knew that the Holy Ghost was on the scene.

Lillian lead worship with the band for the first time since Sergio and Khamille were out of town.  She killed it!  Did you hear this?  My God that was good.  God has really blessed The Mission with some talented worship leaders.

After worship I prayed for the worship team.  I got what might be one of  the coolest words I have ever gotten.  If we were a Native American tribe Corey’s new name would be “Longboard of God.”

After that I really did not know what to do.

I then had Sam get on stage and told him to start getting words of knowledge.  Want to see what it looks like when the anointing comes upon Sam?  Check it out.  I got him on stage and told him to get words of knowledge for healing.  Either you have a gift or you don’t.

For those who have never seen this: This is a word of knowledge.  This is what they produce.

After that I preached a message on repentance and restoration.  Had an altar call and most the church responded. Worshiped some more celebrating the freedom we have in Christ.

Took my bride to Pei Wei, then that night took my son to the ER for an infection in his foot,

I cannot wait for David Copeland this Sunday!

Update on Isaac

May 9th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Thomas Family

We are blessed to have so many great people in our lives.  I have gotten a ton of emails, text messages, phone calls, and fb contacts about Isaac’s health so I am posting this as a clearing house of information.

Over the last month or so Isaac had some sort of callus on his foot that had split open.  It happened his other foot before so we were not that alarmed.  We treated it with ointment and it was looking better.

Thursday he was complaining that it hurt really bad and was awoken that night with pain. The toe was extremely swollen and purple.

Friday morning we took him to the doctor who was quite concerned by how bad it looked.  He prescribed an antibiotic and told us to come back if it got worse or to go to the hospital after hours.

Sunday night Isaac began to look sick. We took his temperature and it was climbing.  After three days of antibiotics, the infection should not still be causing a fever.  The infection did not look better or worse but the fever concerned us so I took him to Boca Community Hospital.

I am a registered chaplain at the hospital so it was funny being there with a patient.

Long story short, Isaac had to go on an IV of antibiotics.  The infection is serious.  I am taking him to his primary doctor today and we are to visit a specialist possibly tomorrow.

Now, I just saw a pastor post on his blog that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.  This is nothing like that.  We are blessed.  This is serious, but I believe between aggressive treatment and the natural healing process of the body, Isaac will be fine.

Now, when we add the anointing to the mix, Isaac will be running around setup again in no time.

As a rule, I don’t discuss my kids publicly.  I don’t use them as sermon illustrations or make them represent the church.  They are kids and I let them be kids.  But since the majority of my blog readers are people who know us and are concerned when my family is facing issues it is just easier for me to post it here.

What can you do?  Pray.  Please pray that Isaac’s foot heals at a supernatural pace.  Please pray that all infection will be killed and leave his body and that the swelling will leave.  Pray that the doctors don’t prescribe anything we don’t need and that they walk in divine wisdom and that Tracey and I discern the best course of treatment.

One last note…When we were in the ER last night I joked that if the toe is too bad they will have to cut it off.  His response…

What are they gonna use my toe for?  Tofu?

The doctors sent in other doctors to hear the joke.  That’s Isaac.

Sunday Morning Musings – 2nd Anniversary Edition

May 2nd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in The Mission
  • What a great day at The Mission Delray.  Two years of Sunday mornings.
  • I decided that we were going to look back and give testimony how we got here and how The Mission has impacted some people’s lives.  We did “I’ve Got a Testimony.”  It sounded just like this.  Maybe not but we really tried.  Some may ask why Khamille did that song.  Because I asked her to.  It is the role of the worship leader to bring forth the vision the pastor has for the service.  It can’t be the worship leader’s show time.  It has to be about advancing the vision God has given regarding the ministry.  I loved that we did the song and the folks of The Mission really responded to something new.
  • I got completely raw and shared some of the nitty gritty about how The Mission got started.  How raw?  So raw we won’t be putting the story on the podcast.  My family have gone through some serious challenges obeying the call of God.  We would not change a thing.  We would follow God again in a second.  But there were people who were not exactly acting in the Spirit of Christ.  They were used by the enemy to try to stop God’s plans but there was an epic win out of the events.  If you served in Mission Kids and want to see it let me know.  We can get together and you can watch the video.
But let me say this.  The reason The Mission is a gossip and judgment free zone is because I know how destructive it is first hand.
  • I was completely blown away by the testimonies.  I was really honored by the retrospective gift also.  I love pastoring the people of The Mission.
  • After that we had the most fun barbecue I have ever been to.  Let me tell you, I had nothing to do with any of the event except the bounce house water slide.  I picked that out myself.  Tracey said the kids might find it scary and adults won’t go on it.  Wrong, wrong, wrong.
  • The Pereiras ran the event like pros.  I hope they don’t ever plan on leaving The Mission because I plan to make it very difficult if they do.  Those folks are a straight up blessing!  Miguel worked almost the whole time.
  • Also shout outs to my bride Tracey, Sasha, Lidia, Isabel, Cinthia, Luceni and Denise.
  • Other random thoughts:
  • Stephano might be the most athletic man in the church
  • Chris Ceglanski has mad hops
  • The food was bangin!
  • We had a first time visitor working the grill!  Talking about getting new people involved.
  • Sad to see Wesley and Lucas leaving town.  Wishing them well in their new endeavors.
  • I played a (very) little basketball and pulled my right calf.  I seriously need to get in shape.
  • I want that water slide for my back yard.  They said they have one that is twice as tall.  Look out next year.
  • Thanks to all the fellas that helped with cleanup.
  • It has only begun!

Social Media is Amazing – Bin Laden Edition

May 2nd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Misc

So here I am on my day off.  I just edited and uploaded a video of Diane preaching on Friday night.  (see it here)

I have a bunch of stuff to do today including my Monday Morning Musings but as I was surfing the webs I found some really amazing stuff.

Bin Laden met Jesus last night.  Can’t imagine it went well.  He probably should have done that before leaving the earth.  Never the less, there was a guy on Twitter who live blogged it without knowing.

A huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad Cantt. I hope its not the start of something nasty :-S  21 hours ago

Then I found Bin Laden’s house where he went down Tony Montana style.  Here is an aerial view.  Here is a picture of it.  Here is a little video of the place.

Here is Sam Reynoso claiming it was really Biggie and Tupac continuing their feud and that the man has fixed the whole system.

Amazing

Thoughts on the Death of Bin Laden

May 2nd, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Misc

I don’t celebrate anyone’s death.  Truth be told, I am not really for death of any kind from cradle to grave.

I am against sickness killing people.  I am against people killing people.  I am against abortion.  I am against the death penalty.  I am against physician assisted suicide.

That being said…

Bin Laden was a criminal.  He was not a military leader.  He was not a political leader.  He was a gang leader.  We have gangs in America.  The members of the gangs usually wind up in jail, dead, or get freaked out and move away to start their lives over.

Bin Laden’s gangland reign ended like lots of others.  He got shot resisting the police.

I would have loved to see Bin Laden on trial for his crimes.  Would have been a great day for justice.  But in the end he died like the petty thug he was.  I don’t rejoice in his death nor am I upset by it.  This was the path he chose and this is where it leads.

The Lord Moved in a Mighty Way Last Night at Intercession

April 30th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in The Mission

Amazing time last night at intercession.  We setup for service then prayed heaven down just like the plan said.

Intercession was hot.  Normally we pray for the lost, call in the hurting, prophecy over the land.  Last night we mostly prayed in tongues.  After that we just prayed that folks would get words of knowledge concerning people to pray for.  Easily three quarters of the people there got words.

After that the Lord ministered to the intercessors.  Here is how one person put it.

I actually saw Jesus, He gave me water to drink out of his hands, it was never ending. Then He hugged me, took me by the hand and took me on the most peaceful walk I’ve ever had.

It is such a Kingdom concept that  the Lord would move so mightily in the lives of the people who come to serve on Friday night.

Monday Musings – Resurrection Edition

April 25th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in The Mission

This was a great day for The Mission Delray.  Not because of the crowd, or the offering, or even the number of folks that responded to the offer of (free) salvation.  There was an air of expectancy among the family of The Mission.  I really can’t explain it, and that is unusual for me, but it was there.

I wore a suit coat.  I was still wearing a t-shirt and jeans but I just wanted to wear a coat.  It was not really for Easter.  I had been talking about it for a while.   Five minutes into my message I had to take it off. Felt like I was preaching in a straight coat.

Too often folks put on a big show for special days.  Problem is, if visitors come back, they realize what they saw was not really you.  That’s like putting some modeling picture of you on a dating website and hoping the person won’t mind when you show up at their door.  It’s fake.  I don’t like fake.  So we kept it real.

Preached myself silly.  Watched me the message today and got happy all over again.  You can watch it here.

We had some major struggles during the altar call.  Tech issues right and left.  Easter morning during the altar call is not when you want that stuff to happen.  But what are you going to do?

In the end it was a great day.

Next week we are going to celebrate our 2 year anniversary of holding Sunday morning meetings.  It is going to be a really fun time.
