It’s hard to believe that UK Supergroup Incognito is celebrating their 31st year in the very competitive music industry. It’s a testament to the innovative mind of founder and leader Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick.

“Transatlantic R.P.M.” is the title of Incognito’s new CD, a 16 track collection of their jazzy soul sounds. Joining the ensemble is Maysa, Chaka Khan, Mario Biondi, Ursula Rucker, and Leon Ware to name a few. The result is spirited expression of soul, jazz, and groove rhythms that bring your speakers to life.

Chaka teams up with Italian singer Mario Biondi for a funky version of Boz Scaggs “Lowdown”, which kicks off the project. Mario goes solo to deliver some hard driving funk on “Can’t Get Enough”. Chaka returns with Al McKay (guitarist) of EW&F for a nice mid-tempo tune “The Song”. Leon Ware continues the easy groove with “Line In The Sand”, and Maysa turns in a smooth performance on “Your Sun, My Sky”.

There are so many songs on this CD that you will embrace, it’s hard to pick a favorite. For the dance music lovers there’s “1975”, “Put A Lovin’ In Your Heart”, Life Ain’t Nothing But A Good Thing”, along with “Let’s Fall In Love Again” featuring John-Christan Urich of Tortured Soul.

When it’s time to slow down the pace, the members of Incognito take the lead. “All My Love” features Joy Rose, Tony Momrelle steps up to the microphone on “Make Room For Love”, and the boss “Bluey” closes the set with “Tell Me What To Do”.

Something for everyone is the only way to describe “Transatlantic R.P.M”, the new CD from UK groove masters Incognito.

NEW RECORDING FROM VOCALIST WILL DOWNING TELLS THE ETERNAL TALE OF ROMANCE, PASSION, JOY AND HEARTBREAK

Lust, Love and Lies (An Audio Novel) set for release on September 14, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Every story has an arc, and love stories are no different. There’s the initial encounter, the flirtation, the first date, the escalation, the passion…and then the map gets a little fuzzy. What comes next is hard to predict – rock-solid commitment and eternal devotion for some, disillusionment or even betrayal for others. Some stories end happily ever after, some not so much.

Vocalist Will Downing has a tale of love to tell. It may or may not be based on a true story, but it’s one that we’ve all lived through at one time or another. Downing’s version, Lust, Love and Lies (An Audio Novel) – which he fondly calls “an audio soap opera,” complete with intermittent vignettes of intimate conversations that help move the story along – includes elements of comedy, tragedy and all the subtle shades in between. The album is set for release on September 14, 2010, on Peak Records, a division of Concord Music Group.

“This record had actually been coming together in my mind for five years,” says Downing. “I just didn’t know how to go about it at first. Then when I first started writing the songs, it started to make sense as a story. I’d never made a record like this before. I had always sort of erred on the side of caution and safety when making records. This was the first time I said, ‘You know what? Let’s just do something completely different.’”

Aided primarily by co-producers Rex Rideout and Chris “Big Dog” Davis (who also plays keyboards throughout the set), guitarist Randy Bowland and bassist Anthony Jackson – along with a number of guest players and vocalists – Downing settles into a groove that’s more straightahead R&B than any of his recordings to date.

“I think people sometime don’t know how to categorize my music,” says Downing. “It’s soulful, but it’s also slightly jazzy. It’s a blend of so many things. But I think this album solidifies what I’m doing and where I’m going. It locks into a groove and says, ‘Okay, this is an R&B record.’ It’ll be interesting to see how longtime listeners react, and whether any new folks will come on board.”

R&B/Soul singer Jaheim recently released his “Another Round” CD on Atlantic Records. From the first time I heard him sing, I’ve always envisioned that he would be the one to ascend to the top of the “A” list of Male Urban music vocalist. In my mind Jaheim would become the “King of R&B/Hip-Hop Soul, the perfect compliment to the Queen, Mary J Blige.

After a promising start, Jaheim’s career has sort of lost its way… until now! “Another Round” proves that Jaheim is still a force to be reckoned with. His voice still booming, this CD was launched to the world via the undeniable dance jam “Ain’t Leaving Without You”.

Jaheim will also have you moving on the mid-tempo grooves of “Her” and the radio friendly “Whoa”. The highlight of “another Round” definitely is his command of the soulful ballads. You’ll be mesmerized by “Closer”, Impossible”, “In My Hands”", “Till It Happens To You”. and the latest single “Finding My Way Back To You”

“Another Round” from Jaheim demostrates that he is in the game, and he’s headed to the Superstar status that is his destiny.

For those of us that like there music good & funky, you’ll enjoy the hard driving rhythms of “Parallel Lines”, “Incredible”, You Got The Love”, the politically charged “Govermentalist” featuring NAS, along with my favorites “Big Ol’ Game” and “Could Have Been You”, which feature a down-home soul backbeat that won’t quit.

Joss has always been able to light a fire under a slow song. The tradition continues on “Girlfriend On Demand”, “Lady’, and the bluesy “4 and 20″. For those of you that have never seen Ms. Stone perform live, “Mr Wanker Man”, will give you a very accurate preview of her stage prowness.

“Colour Me Free”, the total music experience from Joss Stone

“Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy,” the groundbreaking film examining the history and cultural influence of American black comedy, will be available on DVD starting April 27, 2010.

Directed by noted actor-producer-director Robert Townsend (“Hollywood Shuffle”), the documentary, which originally screened at Sundance in 2009 in the Premiere section, features interviews with prominent scholars, politicians, cultural critics, and a host of notable comics, including Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Steve Harvey, and Katt Williams.

“Why We Laugh” tracks the evolution of black comedy from the character of Stepin Fetchit and minstrels in blackface to the politically tinged humor of Dick Gregory, and from the television success of Good Times and The Jeffersons to the big-screen accomplishments of stars such as Eddie Murphy and Whoopi Goldberg. The film also turns a perceptive eye on the controversial career decision of Dave Chappelle and the implications of corporate efforts to capitalize on the massive success of Russell Simmons’s Def Comedy Jam and Spike Lee’s The Original Kings of Comedy.

“’Why We Laugh’ is a major historical contribution to American culture,” said Codeblack executive vice-president Quincy Newell. “This film is a tribute to the way one courageous person with a microphone can change history.”

Newell produced the documentary which he co-wrote with John Long. The film is based on the book “Black Comedians on Black Comedy: How African-Americans Taught Us to Laugh,” by Darryl J. Littleton. Codeblack’s Clanagan, Richard Foos, and Littleton. Codeblack’s Clanagan, Richard Foos, and Littleton are executive producers on the project.

Director Townsend has been at the forefront of black cinema for 30 years and received a Career Achievement Award from the American Black Film Festival in 2002.

Multi-Grammy nominated jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon has released her latest CD, “Homefree” on Concord Jazz, her first studio recording since 2005.

Recorded in North Carolina, Ms Freelon delivers a relaxed, confident performance of songs that have become staples of her concert repertoire

This collection of American standards will engage all of your music senses. The album kicks off with a swingin’ rendition of “The Lamp Is Low”, followed by the really cool flow of “I Feel Pretty”, the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim West Side Story classic.

Nneena is smooth as silk on “Theme from The Valley Of The Dolls”, than injects a touch of Caribbean flavor into Cole Porter’s “Get Out Of Town”

“Cell Phone Blues” is a Freelon original, that weaves the tale of love in the wireless age, I’m sure we all can relate to.

Nneena closes “Homefree” with contemporary reworks of two anthems, “Lift Every Voice & Sing”, which will surprise many, and “America The Beautiful”.

“Homefree”.. new jazzy rhythms from Nneena Freelon.

Soul/Jazz Diva Maysa Leak has released a brand new CD, “A Woman In Love”, her fourth for the Shanachie Entertainment imprint. Once again, Maysa delivers the quality performance we have become accustomed to.

On “A Woman In Love”, Ms Leak returns to her roots as she brings her unique vocal styling to a few of her favorite Jazz standards, along side soulful original compositions. This diverse song list is the perfect vehicle for Maysa to display her artistic range.

The CD begins with the Latin flavored “Am I Wrong (For Lovin’ You)”, which immediately draws you in. That is followed by “Love Theory”, the radio friendly R&B duet that features Will Downing. The title track “A Woman In Love” is an engaging melodic danceable track, while “Honey Bee” has a thumpin’ mid-tempo infectious downbeat that caresses Maysa’s sensual vocal.

On the Jazz side, Ms Leak continues to impress with a funky, yet faithful rendition of Monk’s “Round Midnight”. She breathes new life into the classic ballads “Willow Weep For Me”, “When I Fall In Love”, and “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life”.

Maysa also pays tribute to the late Michael Jackson, with a stirring version of “The Lady In My Life”.

“A Woman In Love”, another triumph for one of the original Underground Soul Divas.. Maysa
