Last night we travelled up to Liverpool to spend some time with the in-laws. (Oh the joys.) I took a day off to go around and do some of the local things. It was interesting to see how fast a city can grow in such a short space of time.

Last time I went to Liverpool, most of the new buildings were only just starting to be built.

This causes major headaches. The problem is that sometimes your non-spam comments will actually be accidentally marked as spam. Not good.

Going through 100 spam comments a day looking for the true ones, isn’t something that is very productive.

While searching high and low on the internet on a way to stop them, I’ve found a way that nearly 100% stops all bad comments on your blog. It’s done by renaming your WordPress comment file.

When a comment is made on your blog, it send the information to a file called wp-comments-post.php….

Simply by renaming this file, you will stop virtually all blog spam. The automated spam-bots actually search for that file and when they can’t see it, they can’t comment. Easy.

You will need to change all references in your WordPress theme files to point to the new page name, but that’s an easy thing to fix. If you can’t do it yourself, it’s only a $5 job for a programmer.

That sounds right for the Internet Marketing niche, right? They want a successful business and that is there goal. In your marketing you most probably focus on that, and your products teach people, that if they follow your proven plan, they will get to there goal.

Most Internet Marketers end goal is actually to give there family and themselves a better life. Working a 9-5 job isn’t something they are happy doing. Most probably makes them depressed.

So in general the real goal of most Internet Marketers is to get away from that. That’s the deep down goal.

Humans actually experience the pain of a loss more than they experience the happiness of a gain. We will do much more to not experience a loss, more than we would do for a gain.

When something is cheaper in a shop than we normally pay, we are quick to put it in the basket without much thought.

If the price has gone up though, we are more often than not going to comment on it and be pissed off. End up putting it back on the shelf. Paying more for something would be considered a loss.

You need to sit down and think deep down, what is your target audiences real goal. Change the way you market to your audience by talking about what they could get away from purchasing your product.

They are more likely to purchase because they do no want the loss of not getting what they want deep down.

Update – It’s important to know that you should never put pressure on the things they will lose if they don’t buy your product. That’s pressuring someone into a sale… not good.

Do it slightly and in a nice, honest way.

There’s a seminar currently going on in London called the “Clickbank Millionaire Masterclass.” I was meant to go to meet up with some blog readers, but with my launch coming up, there was no way to fit in the time.

Just received a wicked email stating that Mark is actually streaming the whole seminar on Ustream for only $10. I grabbed it and i’m listening to in the background while I work.

It was a free seminar to attend, so there is a lot of selling… I’m sure you can get some info from it though. If there is one thing you take from it, it’s that people need to learn how to close there presentation properly.

The selling parts have been so cringy.

Rankpay was one of those services I thought would be a gamechanger in the SEO world. The whole point of the website was simple. You signup for free, tell them your website URL etc and they will build backlinks for you.

100% free.

If they managed to get you Google rankings, you would pay them a monthly fee. Only if you got rankings though. You had nothing to lose really. I thought to myself, darn… I got nothing to lose here, let’s give this a go.

This is where things got a little annoying.

I sold the website in question because a buyer came along with a good price. OK, so I stop all SEO work on it, and contact Rankpay stating that I don’t need that service anymore.

Got an email back from them.

It seemed alright, you know the normal stuff… sorry to see you go blah de blah, if we can do anything let us know. Oh and by the way we charge $200 for cancelling per out TOS. WHAT!?

Listen, I wouldn’t normally mind if they had stated this on signup. Which they didn’t. Hiding fee’s like this in your TOS is pretty darn sneaky if you ask me. This is how they must make a ton of there money.

Be careful of things like this. I agreed to the TOS so honestly I suppose I do owe it to them. But this is pretty evil if you ask me. They know 99% of people don’t read the TOS.

Wrong.

If you look carefully, you will realize that most of the big Internet Marketers, are no longer Internet Marketers. I call them Personality Marketers. They do things a lot different from other people.

• You will notice they will mention there name wherever they can

• They get there picture on the screen as much as possible

• A lot of audio interviews are found of them on the internet

• The use a lot of personal video

• There emails are worded like a friends email

They are no longer Internet Marketers. They are Personality Marketers. Doing everything they can to get people to know, like and trust them. It’s for this reason they can jump forward in the online world, and other people seem to struggle.

Sign up to some big bloggers/gurus email lists and note down everything that they do. I bet the some of the above will crop up.

Use the above in your business and trust me, your trust and credibility in this marketplace will skyrocket. It’s not hard stuff to do either. Everyone can put more pictures/videos on the internet. You most probably already do it for your real life friends on Facebook.

You may think that streaming a video game is just pure stupid. To be honest, I did too, and still do. Let’s just quickly jump over to a popular video streaming site, and see how many people are watching other people playing video games.

Here is someone playing “Starcraft Craft 2 Beta”

Can you see that.

That’s 480 people, all over the world, watching someone play a darn video game. If that many people are willing to watch that, I’m pretty sure people love live video streams. Obviously you’re not going to want to stream yourself playing games all day. You’re not going to make money from that.

But you could use it in other ways. What about getting your customer support to answer questions live? Maybe, on the launch of your product, have your live stream pop up to answer all questions someone may have.

You can even use it to record yourself, and create a product of it. Here’s a killer example. Use the live streaming video to teach people, how to use live streaming video to make a product, just like you are. It’s easy.

OK great, but I bet your thinking that to do this sort of stuff, you need more technical knowledge than a astronaut who’s been doing his job for 25 years.

Surprisingly you don’t.

There are 2 main live streaming websites at the moment. Justin.tv and Ustream.tv.

Each has there pros and cons. To be honest, I would suggest going with Ustream. Main reason being that they have software you can download, to start streaming your desktop within 5 minutes. Litterally.

Click, Install, Done.

So, head on over there, check the site out, see what other people are doing and start streaming something!

Brand Failures is a book written by Matt Haig. He covers, in his own words “The truth about the 100 biggest branding mistakes of all time.”

Firstly, as odd as it may seem… the book felt pretty sexy. Weired thing to come out and say, yes, but it did. The pages weren’t your normal paper. Instead, they felt glossy.

It made reading the book more comfortable to hold while reading. Strange how much of a difference it made.

Anyway…

When the book says 100 different brand failures, it sure doesn’t disappoint. It makes me laugh when I buy “101 Twitter tips” and it ends up having about 20 inside.

While each failure isn’t 10 pages long each, it defiantly gets straight to the point and only tells you what you need to know. Books have a tenancy to go all around the world to explain there point. It made life easier for making notes as well.

Amazingly I’d only heared of about 4 or 5 of the failures in the book. These were big companies they were talking about as well. Like I mentioned in my failures is a part of business post, you never here about the failures of big businesses and only the successes.

Not only does it tell you about the failures, it also tries to explain some of the Phycology behind them.

Overall I would rate this book 8/10.  Even though it doesn’t really have any information that you can implement in your business, it’s interesting to learn what mistakes have been made by the big corporations.
