Yay!)

Thank you for reading my report of the Indianapolis concert on Tuesday, July 22! I know there are some people reading this who will not have an opportunity to see David in concert during this tour, so I especially thought of you while writing this. As you read below, you will find out why my username is “Freo.” Also, before you begin reading, this is a friendly warning that my report is quite long. I’m a features reporter by training and there were loads of details I had been wondering about before the day’s events.

Before I get started, I’d like to note that fans have already captured excellent concert videos with cameras far more sophisticated than mine. I am sharing the links to my concert clips, though, so you can see some more Indy clips. I mostly focused on set introductions and David’s comments talking between songs. In addition, I am sharing some excellent (and unexpected) videos made during the pre-concert bus meet and greet. You can find URL’s to my videos on YouTube in this report.

Meanwhile, I discovered that I had dropped my phone in the taxi!

I tried calling — voice mail — and then calling again… and then my friend Arik answered the phone! WTF? He then explained that someone called him and he picked the phone up somewhere in the city. I guess he knew it was my phone because of caller ID. So he’s going to give me the phone tomorrow.

Omigosh, this is like the second time I’ve dropped my phone in the cab. I’m so old now.

(Here’s the Castro Report from Hanna from Columbus, OH. Thanks Hanna for being one of our cellcasters!)

I’m a detail person so this will be long. My husband I arrived at the Schott in Columbus around 11:45 a.m.. I’d decorated the windows of our blue van with the words “WHAT A DAY FOR A DAYDREAM” “(HEART) JASON CASTRO” “DAYDREAMINGBOY.COM” Ours was the only decorated vehicle, which surprised me. My husband had to drive his van to work that way this morning because that window chalk doesn’t come off very easily!!!

A group of Dreadheads had their places staked out at the barriers so we joined them. Security had a narrow pathway marked off between the chain link fence and the parking lot. There was plenty of room for the approximately 250 fans. It was fun walking around talking to other Idol groups. The Cookies were definitely present, as were the Arch Angels. The Schott Security staff was very nice. George kept looking at his schedule, letting us know what was going on. It turns out he didn’t know any more than we did. Wink

The 3 equipment buses were already parked in the underground parking lot. We waited in the 90* heat forever! We knew they had a 3:30 Meet and Greet, so were worried we’d never get to see them if they didn’t get there soon. At 1:45, the other 3 buses drove down to the parking lot. After awhile, Kristy walked up the steps leading to our area. She strutted past us to the far end of the line without saying anything. I get the impression she is always following a script, right down to the head tosses. Next was Ramiele. She’s so cute. I asked if I could get a pic of her with my husband. She said “Is that a Jason Castro shirt???” and rolled her eyes (yes I made him wear one!), but she smiled for the pic. Next was Syesha. She looked pretty in her yellow top, and is smaller than I expected. I said “welcome to Columbus” and she mumbled that she has family here. The person next to me said “Syesha, why don’t you give Rickey some love.” She ignored her. Brooke was next; she’s beautiful, sweet and engaging. She asked where I got my shirt (Jason is my Idol), as she saw one like it with her name on it. Carly didn’t come out, I think because she’d injured her hip the night before. I was disappointed about that, but understood the reason! After making her way to the end of the line, Syesha walked past us to go back to the bus with Ramiele and said “Look at all the females here!!! No wonder Cook won.” Someone should tell Syesha that she doesn’t need to say aloud everything that pops into her head.

The first guy up the steps was David Archuleta, who was greeted with lots of screams. He was in a hurry, and said he could only take pictures if he was signing autographs at the same time. My husband (a closet Archie fan) said “I think you should have won” and DA laughed and sweetly said “Oh no, no…” Next up was Cookie. He moved down the line so slowly, taking time to chat and take pictures with everyone. He got a few gifts, including a beautiful pencil portrait done by one of his fans; he loved it and turned to show all of us. He, David A and Kristy had security with them. The others didn’t. My husband asked David C if they were going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when in Cleveland. David said “I wish! Maybe someday at another stop.” My husband said “I hope so. You have to keep it fun,“ and David replied “That’s right! That’s what I keep telling them!” We asked David if they would be staying in Columbus that night. He said they were going on to Indianapolis. We later found out that wasn’t true, but after what occurred in Chicago the night before, I don’t blame them for throwing the fans off their trail. Michael Johns and Chikezie never came out.

Last, but not least, Jason came bounding up the steps to the fan area. Lots of screams from the fans! He jumped right into signing autographs and taking pics. He was moving a lot faster than Cook, so when he caught up to David, Jason stepped back, bent over and rolled his jeans up into manpris. I don’t know what was wrong with the ladies standing behind him…not one of them took a pic of that!! Obviously they were not Jason fans, who are always ready for a picture of the pantzzz. As Jason sprinted past our section to avoid being held up by Cook, we yelled for him to stop. He looked at us with eyes the color of his teal/green shirt and said he’d be back, but it was already after 3:00 and we were afraid he’d run out of time!! Finally, at 3:25, he got to his loyal Dreadheads! I got a pic with him, awkward because he was behind a barrier and I’m short. I gave him a gift, he asked “what is it?”, I said “a surprise”. I told him I wanted to give him a “mom hug”. He gave me the cutest look, then leaned in for a big, tight hug. I felt his dreads, which are coarse and a little prickly. As we hugged I told him I was giving him some “mom energy”, after which he said “Thank you! That was a good one!” I followed him down the line a little and asked him to say Go Bucks (for the Ohio State Buckeyes). You can see his hilarious response in my video. He looked kind of tired, but was kind, sweet, personable, and absolutely gorgeous! He and David Cook spent about 1 ½ hours outside in the sun and heat with us, until everyone got a pic/autograph! What a fun experience for us!

Before the concert as I waited outside to meet up with a couple people, my husband talked to David Archuleta’s dad in the parking area. He asked if they had insurance on David, like from Lords of London. His dad replied that he’d been thinking about that and was going to look into it. Jeff also told people that the Idols were staying in Columbus overnight, the opposite of what Cook told us in the afternoon. Maybe he’s The Mole. Wink

Our concert experience started once they found seats for us. Apparently there was a mix-up between the box office and AI, so our seats were non-existent. They set up extra chairs for us right in front of the sound equipment and gave better seats to my son and 2 friends. We couldn’t see very well, but I didn’t mind that for the first half, as I was doing the cell feed for RickeyTV and it was easy to boldly hold my cell phone up over my head for good reception without bothering anyone behind me. Finally the show got underway.

Chickezi was energetic and friendly and his voice sounded great. Unfortunately the band somewhat overpowered him, as it did everyone else. He got some good screams and cheers. Next was Ramiele. She looked cute and moved around better than I’d heard from other reports. It sounded as though she was shouting to be heard above the too loud band. MJ followed with some good “concert crowd” pleasing songs. I was prepared not to like him as I think he’s overrated considering his 8th place ranking, but his voice was strong and he looked good! His set got the crowd fired up! Kristy Lee was next. My son and husband thought she was hot. I don’t like country music; she looked like a life-size Barbie doll. She kept telling the crowd to scream louder. You shouldn’t have to beg, Kristy. Carly followed. She’s so beautiful. I loved her songs and voice, but you know the band is too loud when you can’t hear Carly over them! The bass was so loud it was uncomfortable; I could feel it pounding in my chest!! Carly said she’d hurt her hip the night before, but was feeling better. She introduced Brooke, who looked so pretty and sounded as sweet as she is. She looks a lot more comfortable sitting behind a piano, although the close-up of her bare feet while she stood playing her guitar was cute. The group number was interesting. I didn’t understand why they said “Ladies and Gentlemen…Michael Johns” in the middle of it. ?

After the obligatory intermission commercials, including the fun Guitar Hero group number with Jason on the drums, and a charming little boy playing air guitar, we knew who was coming next!! I’d switched seats with my son so had a perfect view of the stage!! The spotlight shined on Jason in his red shoes, which led to screams from the crowd. Jason did a slow version of SOTR, his voice and the uke sounded wonderful and confident, and afterwards he said he still loves that song and hasn’t gotten tired of it even after performing it so many times. His Crazy was fantastic, clear, pitch perfect and animated. The crowd loved it. He introduced Daydream saying it was a good song for him because he’s always talking about dreaming. He was upbeat and happy. Earlier in the day someone asked if he minds when the crowd sings along, and he said he loves it. I’m disappointed they still haven’t given Jason a headset so he can walk around and engage more of the crowd. He’s the only Idol who is tethered to the mic stand, which limits his audience interaction. His whole set was very well received, but too short.

Syesha followed. She glittered around the stage and told the crowd they were quiet. David A was next. He got lots of ear-shattering screams from the teeny boppers around us. I wasn’t crazy about his song choices, but he sounded good and even did a little dance in his last number. He was wearing shiny red shoes. Then David Cook rose from the underbelly of the arena and sang, moving to each side of the stage, making eye contact and enticing reactions from the crowd. For his last number, the equipment guy was replaced by Michael Johns. Cookie got a big kick out of it as MJ tried to put David’s guitar on his right side. DC said they’d been talking about doing that for a month and we got to see it! Again…? Before Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing, David said “I’m dedicating this to all of you, and someone in particular. Excuse me for being awkward.” Hmmm

The group number was cute, although I’m not likin’ how the bottom 6 had more total stage time than # 4. Jason looked adorkable and sounded great; I tried to get video of him and got a little of the MJ/ Cookie dance interaction. We didn’t stay to meet the Idols afterwards because it was too crowded. Hopefully I’ll get to meet all of them in Cleveland in September!

Tidbits: The girls really scream for Archie and the crowd was really loud tonight.
Brooke20said this afternoon she was given some ice cream (her favorite flavor - chocolate chip cookie dough) from Graeter’s. That got a big cheer, it’s a Cincinnati brand that has been around since 1870 and is HUGE in this area.
Jason said, when introducing Crazy that he did the song about 8 times in auditions, but it was never on TV, so he wanted to it for us. I heard AI couldn’t get the rights to air it.
Michael Johns said to ask Cook how to spell Cincinnati, because he was teaching everyone earlier today.
When David came out he spelled it and said he had had to learn a song spelling it when he was a kid and still remembered. Cook said he was checking his e-mail; backstage when Carly came to tell him what a great loud crowd it was and Carly compared the loudness to Utah’s loudness, he imitated her using his version of her Irish accent, The rest of his banter was the usual. He is an unbelievable *THUD* I was ‘ploding during My Hero and Billie Jean.

During Don’t Stop the Music, instead of the robot dance, Cook got down on one knee in front of Michael and motioned somehow, but I couldn’t tell exactly what he was doing, I hope someone gets it on Youtube.

(Here’s the Archey Report from Dominic! Woohoo! We’re here for David Archuleta! Good job Dominic, thanks for being a cellcaster last night!)

Ok so the night was amazing. My concert was awesome INDEED. It first started off at the busses, where there were like 200 people waiting for the idols.. Chikeze came out first and then Kristi and Jason, followed by Archie and cook and then brooke and MJ. The other 3 ddint come out at all. Archie had to rush through the autographs because he had press, and so did MJ and cook, but cook came back out because he was literally there for like 2 minutes to sign stuff. When Archie came out the crowd went nuts of course, he started on my side YAY. He signed a few things for me and I got a Video of him signing some stuff. The idols were really cool signing especially Chikeze and Brook. Archie was signing a girls shirt when baseball fireworks went off and he almost literally fell to the ground because he was so scared and didn’t know what it was. It was the funniest and coolest moment I have ever seen, it was so great and funny. Anyway Jeff came out and I talked to him for a bit about things and how the tour and David was doing, we talked for about 15 minutes and he had to go in.

Anyway onto the concert. AWESOME and INCREDIBLE to say the least. Chikeze was first: HE really knows how to get the crowd all worked up, he sang really, really well and his voice has definitely matured since IDOL. He did a good job and I really enjoyed his set. Ramiele: I have to say she looks absolutely Beautiful on stage, she sang good but she looks Stunning and she definitely has some moves.
Michael Johns: I loved his set so much, he got the crowd involved right away, his songs were so powerful and great and his voice just soars big time. HE did a great job, one of my favorites of the night. Kristi: Kristi is just sooo HOT, she looked STUNNING tonight. I could not believe how great she looked and she sounded amazing and God Bless the USA was AWESOME and I had chills all over. She did really well and I enjoyed her set a lot. Carly: She is so pretty, she looks stunning in person, she sang her heart out tonight and she def. put everything she had in her songs tonight and her vocals are so powerful and great, her voice soars, SHE DID GREAT. Brook: I LOVE this GIRL, she was a little under the weather but she pushed herself through her set, even though her vocals were not as strong as they could have been, she did exceptional for being sick. This girl I just love to death. She is Beautiful and sounded good for being sick. Jason: Got a huge applause and gave cook and archie a run for their money on the applaud. He did really well on somewhere over the rainbow, didn’t like Crazy as much because Archie’s was so much better, but he did good on it but just didn’t do much for me. His last song was great though, he is just a really nice and calm guy like he has no worries in the world. Jason is really a cool guy. All and all he did very well. Syesha: Her Vocals are Awesome and she can hit the high notes with no problem, She did great on her set and really liked it but she is just too mean for me. But based on the vocals itself she DID very well and did a great job, she is very Pretty also. ARCHIE: Don’t know where to start with him. The crowd went NUTS for him screams everywhere it was just deafening when he rose up from the stage. HE is just AMAZING and BREATH-TAKING. Angels was just perfect and he changed it up once again and hit a GRANDSLAM with it. It was SUPERB and he sounded awesome. Apologize is one of my favorite songs and he did it better than One Republic did. It sounded Incredible to say the least and he hit those notes like there was nothing to it. His Falsettos were right on the money and I had chills and goosebumps throughout the whole song. Stand By Me was just Awesome, he knows how to get the crowd all worked up. He sounded great on the song and sang it with his heart. His dance moves were AWESOME and the crowd went crazy and all bananas over it. He really knows how to dance and move his body. That was a great song. When you say you love me: OMG CHILLS, TEARS, Shaking, Fanboyism came out on here. This was simply BREATH-TAKING and amazing. His Voice soars over the crowd and over the music. His vocals were right on tonight and the notes he hit on these songs sent chills up and down my body. OF course I was in tears of joy and happiness because he sang this song with such emotion and devotion and he is just SUPERB. The notes he hits on this song is just simply INCREDIBLE and unbelievable. He did the sign at the end and looked like he was a little emotional to me but not sure, but all and all HE WAS THE BEST OF THE NIGHT BY FAR. HE did amazing and incredible. Way to go Archie. Cook: the crowd went crazy for him, I don’t like his music because rock is not for me, but he did do really well. This guy knows how to work the crowd and get them going. I have to admit that his vocals were powerful tonight and he really did a great job on his songs. My favorite one of his was Time of my Life, he did great on it and I had chills, he really gets into this song a lot. He actually did a great job tonight and have to say Cincinnati Loved the DAVID’S SOOOO MUCH. Yay for Cook and Archie. On the group song, Archie was not wearing his jacket he wears usually which was really cool because he looked more his age and more in his comfort zone. THE show was amazing and I would encourage everyone who has not been yet to go see it. It is amazing and the best Concert I have ever been to.
The After party was really cool. I got to meet all the idols once again, but One on One which was really cool. I loved it a lot. Brook was pretty sick so she wasn’t feeling good but she still signed everyone’s things. She is just naturally a sweetheart and an amazing girl. Syesha wasn’t at the party long at all her and ramiele left really early like 5 minutes into the party. Kristi and Chikeze were not even there, I think they were already at the busses, but I got their autographs earlier at the busses. Michael Johns is a goofball, he is so cool and jokes all the time. His accent is cool. He has a great personality and seems to like his fans. Jason is so cool. Didn’t get him at first, but he is really a cool guy. He has an accent that I have never noticed before like british or something. He really is a fun guy to be around and nice to talk to. Cook is a cool guy one on one. He was really nice to me and my mom and sister in law. He was really cool and I enjoyed talking to him. Carly is amazing and SO PRETTY in person. She is a sweetheart and I LOVE her ACCENT. She adores her fans so much. Archie is just the BEST BOY!!! He is so nice to his fans and would never say not to anyone I don’t think. He signed some things for me and got pics with him and talked for a few minutes before the took him away from me lol. I got him a few gifts that he wanted to open there in front of me but he had to go so I didn’t see him open them, but he said that it was so cool and sweet that I got him some stuff and that he really appreciated that. Jeff was really a great guy no matter what anyone says. He is just one of the nicest fathers and coolest people I have ever met. He is so down to earth and so appreciative of everything. I got him and lupe a little gift also and he thought that was so nice. All in all there may have been 60 ppl for the after show but they all got their autographs and left out in a hurry so it was cool. I did tell David about all the International Archies and he said OMG I have fans all the way over there and was so shocked and told me to tell you all thanks so much for supporting him all the way in other countries. He was really grateful and appreciative. I told him about our fan girls here too. I told him to be aware and he just laughed and thought it was so funny about what I said and he was so tickled with what I was telling him. He wanted to say thanks for supporting him Fangirls and hopes to see you all on tour somewhere.

All I can say was the Concert was a blast and I would not trade it in for anything in the world. IT was just incredible and I enjoyed everyone of the idols sets. None of them were bad at all, BUT ARCHIE has my heart and my vote and my devotion so I LOVED his set the best and he is just superb. HE did awesome tonight and is just one of the nicest, caring, funniest, kind, cool, and just adores his fans so much. They all were great BUT ARCHIE IS THE BEST BOY EVER!!!!!!!!!! American Idols live In Cincinnati Ohio was INCREDIBLE and Carly told the crowd that Cincinnati gave Utah a run for their money in cheers!!! YAY for Cincinnati. Please if you have not been to a concert I encourage you to go because you will not regret it at all. IT was great. Archie you are the best and you are my hero. We LOVE ARCHIE!!!!
