Scientists in Norway have identified a mutated form of the swine flu virus that is raising concern because it was found in two patients who died of the flu and a third who was severely ill with the disease, officials announced Friday.

In a statement, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health said the mutation “could possibly make the virus more prone to infect deeper in the airways and thus cause more severe disease.”

Grey’s Anatomy – Holidaze – Recap is a post from: American Idol

O. M. G. Tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy was the last before it takes its holiday break before resuming in January. As a result, they had three months and a lot of holidays to pack in, so the episode felt rushed. Until the OMG moment that closed out the show (the ABC dramas are full of those this week, aren’t they?)

We start on Thanksgiving eve where Richard explains to Meredith what she saw in the last episode: Joe pouring the Chief a tall “club soda”… and by that he means vodka. Richard explains that he wasn’t an alcoholic: he was just suffering from “situational depression” at the hand of Ellis. As horribly as he thinks she treated her, he still recognizes that she was a brilliant surgeon and sees the same brilliance in Meredith, offering to become her mentor.

While Owen and Christina are spending some quality time together in the on-call room, her pager goes off. She goes into surgery with Teddy, but after removing the patient’s heart, they don’t know what to do. They put the patient on a bypass machine, hoping they’ll soon find a transplant donor. I rapidly see a Denny situation abrew.

Callie overhears a phone conversation between Bailey and her parents house, talking about how she’ll spend the holidays with Tucker. Little problem, she and Tucker are divorced. She says she isn’t sure how to tell them, but it turns out she doesn’t have to: word spread through her family grapevine, eventually getting back to her father. He decides the only way to deal with the situation is to fly out to Seattle and ambush her.

She isn’t the only one with a surprise visitor for the holidays: as Mark is working on a patient, a hot blonde walks into the clinic looking for him. Lexie looks over at him, jealous, when the girl opens her mouth: “My name is Sloan and I’m pretty sure you’re my dad.”

In addition to his baby drama, Mark is also called in to develop equipment to perform a serious case. There’s a tumor in a child’s brain that can’t be reached with the tools they have, so Mark, Derek, and Arizona collaborate to create one.

At Callie and Arizona’s, Lexie is chopping celery. Mark and Sloan walk in the door and announce that yes, he really is her father. Lexie’s reaction is a new ingredient in Thanksgiving dinner: her pinky finger. She cuts it right off and barely feels the pain.

Fast-forward to Christmas Eve, and Lexie’s finger is sewn back on. In the month that Sloan has lived with them, Mark has spoken to her only three times, so she urges him to try. (Ironic, my dad and I have lived together for 22 years and I think that’s how much we’ve spoken.)

Christina and Teddy’s heart patient is still on the bypass, and Christina says that New Years Eve will almost certainly hold the solution: drunk drivers on icy roads make for lots of donors. She tells them that if she’s going to die, she at least wants to go outside before it happens. The doctors manage to roll up her bypass machines to take her outside… where she promptly collapses from an intestinal problem. The little boy with the brain tumor is also still waiting for the equipment to be created, and I find that a little unbelievable. With the severity of his nosebleeds, I think it’s unlikely that he’d have survived for another month (but I got my M.D. from TV, so who am I to say?)

As Bailey is faced with her father crisis, she insists that Derek and Meredith invite her over for Christmas dinner so he doesn’t think she has no life at all. Mr. Bailey chooses this time to tear into Miranda about how he is disappointed in what she’s done, interrupting the entire dinner and drawing stares from the other doctors around the table. The rest of the Christmas dinner seems a bit odd: Arizona singing Christmas carols with the Chief as Owen plays guitar? His dancing is certainly entertaining, at least. Meredith is in the kitchen doing some last-minute dinner preparation as Thatcher comes in to talk to her. (My actual first note on his appearance? “HIDE THE ALCOHOL!”) I get that he has half of her liver, but it’s a little awkward to see him in his ex-wife’s house among his estranged daughter’s friends. He takes issue with Richard’s drinking, saying that he’s off the wagon. Meredith knows, having seen him drinking at Joe’s, but excuses his behavior by saying that it’s Christmas and everyone drinks egg nog on Christmas. Meredith finds a retort, asking if Thatcher drank before he left Meredith and Ellis. He says no, that it happened much later, and she says the best comeback I’ve ever heard: “well, we can’t blame the world’s evils on alcohol, can we?”

By New Year’s Eve, Mark still finds it difficult to talk to Sloan. He approaches her, finally, to ask when she’s leaving and she finally spills her secret: she’s pregnant. She dropped out of school and her mom kicked her out and Mark is her last resort. For someone who says he is so inept at parenting, he seems pretty effective at comforting her.

Just as they’re about to intubate Arizona’s young patient, Derek rushes in with good news: they’ve finished the equipment and need to rush him into surgery right away. Christina’s heart patient doesn’t have such good news: her kidneys are starting to fail, and she needs a transplant right away. By the stroke of the new year, not only is the little boy’s life saved (complete with the most precious midnight kisses through surgical masks in the OR) and a brain dead 18-year-old rolls in ready to be a donor. Bailey’s dad finally decides to leave after spending New Year’s with Tucker and baby Tuck. He continues to make her feel guilty, though, for not telling him about the divorce. She tries to tell him that there are just some things we can’t tell our parents.

And I cannot believe Shonda Rhimes for doing this to us at the ending of a two-month drought. Meredith rushes into the bar to meet Joe, who apologizes for paging her. By the jukebox stands the Chief, doing something that resembles dancing. OMG HE’S KRUNK. And can we just commend Jim Pickens for his phenomenal acting? He plays drunk better than anyone I’ve ever seen. He pulls Meredith up to the bar next to him, pushing Joe to pour her a drink. “Tequila!” he requests.

I’m glad that the season does seem to be getting better and better — and there was barely any instance of Mercy West in the episode! The hour did feel a little rushed, though, since they covered so much ground. I’m irritated by Mark’s daughter (he was a manwhore, we get it) and I wanted to just punch Bailey’s dad right in the jaw. We’re still not back on track with the Grey’s of old, but we’re getting closer and closer.

Danny Gokey – My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me – New Single is a post from: American Idol

Danny Gokey changes his “first” single! Instead of “It’s Only”, the lead single for his new album is now “My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me”.

This is a better choice. The songs sounds like country music. Good job.

“My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me” will be available for digital download on Dec. 22. The song was written by Marv Green and Kent Blazy.

FlashForward – Believe – Recap is a post from: American Idol

This week on Flashforward, we get what I’ve been wanting for some time. More Bryce. He continues to search for the mysterious woman he saw in his flashforward and we learn more about his life before the blackout along the way. Aaron is worried about how Tracy is acting and Demetri tries to find more information about the anonymous caller who warned him of his fate. And last but not least we have Mark, who pisses off everyone in his path while he tries to figure out who sent Olivia the text about his drinking. Everyone’s looking for something this week but will they be happy with what they find?

This episode starts off with a flashback to 2 weeks before the blackout with some incredibly upsetting news. Bryce has stage 4 cancer and his prognosis is terminal. Nooo Don’t even ABC. This does however explain Bryce’s suicide attempt before the blackout. It really breaks my heart to see someone give up completely like this. We get to see what Bryce saw in his vision and it’s really inspirational and moving even if not much happens. He’s with the mystery Japanese girl and they’re both very happy to be together. It’s easy to see why this vision would give Bryce so much hope.

Keiko is the girl from Bryce’s vision. She’s a shy girl from Japan who’s also a very talented engineer. It seems her specialty is making robotic arms. Will she help Bryce in the future? She’s another girl unhappy with her life with a family that doesn’t support her or her dreams. Join the rest of us Keiko.

Bryce tells Olivia the truth about what’s wrong with him and she wants to help. She recommends him to an experimental drug treatment program in Houston and tells him to hop a flight right away because she’s convinced that this treatment is why he’s alive in his vision. Bryce ignores that logic and instead flies to Japan in search of Keiko. He learns a little bit of Japanese and wanders around the city looking for her. How frustrating. Because Keiko and her mother aren’t getting along, her mother sabotages Bryce’s attempts to find her. Damn you woman!

Mark sees the text that Olivia received telling her that he will start drinking again. Because he’s only told two people other than her, logic dictates that it’s one of those people. But I doubt it. First person is Aaron, one of Mark’s best friends who he immediately offends and angers once he accuses him. Mark just lost his AA sponsor. Tough break buddy. Aaron is already angry because Tracy isn’t the same person she was when she left. She’s “dead” and “broken” and drinking like a fish. That could really test Aaron’s limits. The other person who knew was Wedeck, Mark’s boss. Last person you want to piss off Mark. He does it anyway and gets thrown out of his office.

When Mark is finished with his pity parade, he does something useful and helps Demetri identify the anonymous caller who foretold his murder. The NSA had recorded the phone call and the guys are able to narrow it down to Hong Kong. They decide that jetting over to China right now is a good idea. Even after that crazy guy a few episodes back blamed the entire blackout on China. I’m sure they’re very friendly after that.

Bryce heads back to LA a defeated man. Don’t give up just yet Bryce. As he’s getting off the plane, he could have restored his faith by simply turning around. Keiko, (although unaware) is right behind him getting off the same flight. Turns out he did misinterpret the vision and the Japanese restaurant he meets Keiko in is in Los Angeles. Irony. Believe Bryce! Believe!

Survivor: Samoa – The Day of Reckoning – Recap is a post from: American Idol

Can I say it? Survivor: Samoa is one of the best seasons of Survivor ever. OMG. For a third week, another blockbuster tribal council. And in the words of Gabe: “That was beautiful.”

But first a brief recap:

It’s Evil Russell vs. Laura vs. Shambo! Who will win?

A lot of politics in Aiga after Kelly got voted off when Evil Russell played the hidden immunity idol last week.

SPOILERS

At first I thought Shambo made another strategic blunder by confiding in John that she was behind the Foa Foa tribe decisions, particularly in voting off Laura. I guess if you are handsome, people will spontaneously tell you things, LOL. However, later on, this was just the perfect seed to get the fireworks rolling.

Reward challenge:

Some odd cradle and rope thing. The team of Evil Russell, Laura, Natalie, Dave and Brett win a trip to an island. They have a picnic and get a clue to the hidden immunity idol. It’s underneath a moss-covered rock! Evil Russell is on it!

Back at camp, Mick and Jaison spill the beans on Shambo to Monica. Okay, it’s out in the open now — as if it wasn’t obvious. They are trying to entice her to be the sixth vote in voting off Laura just in case she doesn’t win immunity.

When Evil Russell gets back to camp — the chase for the hidden immunity idol is on! As in literally.

And then when nobody is looking Evil Russell found the idol again! I am aghast. Who is this guy? And who are the idiots who are with him in this cast of Survivor? Geez.

Anyway, the Immunity Challenge:

Laura fails to make it to the second round of this “break a tile, then fire an arrow challenge”… and Shambo laughs.

Mick wins immunity by having the closest arrow to the target, beating Brett.

So now politics!

Monica makes a move and tells Foa Foa that she will vote for John. This has got to be one of the lamest strategies ever employed on Survivor that the producers actually made us witness on TV. Monica is an idiot — she had zero negotiation skills.

And then we find out in John’s POVs that he thinks that his Galu tribemates are idiots: By targeting Shambo and Evil Russell — and the dumbest move of all, voting off Erik in a 30 second decision. (Agree on Erik, that was the beginning of the end).

John makes a deal with Evil Russell after finding out that Monica and the others were going to make him the pawn without telling him.

Tribal Council:

The votes:

Laura – 5
Natalie – 5

Deadlock! Tie! Revote! If it is another tie, then the tribe will randomly pick rocks — and someone will be voted off by chance (excluding Laura and Natalie who will both be safe at that point). Dave says: “You’ve got to make big moves in this game in order to win, and I say there’s nothing bigger than lady luck. I’m ready to roll the dice, let’s go.” Hahaha! For someone obsessed with the “guaranteed” number superiority of Galu moving in to the merge — he thinks luck is the biggest factor? You guys had an 8-4 advantage, which was a 1 in 8 chance of a million dollars getting in. Is he stupid?

Laura and Nat can’t vote in the revote:

Laura – 5
Natalie – 3

Shocker! John turns.

Laura is voted off and becomes the third member of the jury. The revenge of Erik. Unbelievable.

How shocking that Shambo is now the deciding vote if the tribe goes down old tribe lines next week — unless the entire tribe votes her off first. Should be exciting!

I think that John made a great decision. He needs to convince everyone that Shambo should go next week, or the Evil Russell / Shambo alliance will steamroll.

The hidden immunity idol in Evil Russell’s hands is now more powerful than ever. He found 3 idols, OMG.

I take full responsibility for that. I think that the editor has his agenda and has his opinions, which I respect, but they’re not necessarily my opinions. And I wish there was a little respect for that. Not every gay man is the same gay man.”
