The two plankers got their chance in the Eagle Superpipe today and wow, did they ever show off their skills. The ladies' led things off and the U.S.A.'s Maddie Bowman showed that wins in Copper and XGames were no fluke and took her third straight Gold with a 85.2 on her first run.

Ayana Onozuka of Japan followed closely behind with a 84.4 while Virginie Faivre of Switzerland filled out the Ladies' podium with an 82.8. Full women's results availble here.

The men's competition wound up tightly bunched, with all three men on the podium scoring in the 93's. The U.S.A. got both the top two spots with David Wise showing why he secured XGames gold and scoring a 93.8 and Torin Yater-Wallace just two tenths of a point back at 93.6 France's Kevin Rolland, who always seems to excel in the Eagle Superpipe (finished 2nd in the 2011 FIS World Ski Championships here) was just behind at 93. It was an amazing day in the Eagle Superpipe as the top Men's and Ladies' Snowboarders took to the air in the 2013 Sprint U.S. Grand Prix.

In the ladies' event, the third and second spots went to the U.S.'s Kaitlyn Farrington and Arielle Gold while Jiaya Liu of China took the top top position, click here for the full results.

In the men's event, it was an all-USA battle, with Luke Mitrani in 3rd, Scotty Lago in 2nd. Afterwards, Lago recalled how the Eagle pipe has been friendly to him over the years, "Park City is where all the magic happens. It's where I qualified for the Olympics in 2010."

Freeski qualifying has finished for the day, with both the men's and women's finals fields locked in for a huge day Saturday in the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Halfpipe finals.

Saturday's final in the superpipe, just steps from First Time parking lot, is free and spectator-friendly - but if you can't make it here you can still watch the action live at the link below.

A big first day of competition at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Halfpipe in the superpipe was capped off in the biggest way possible - the Paul Mitchell Progression Session Big Air. Snowboarders and freeskiers threw hammers for over 90 minutes, trying to outdo each other on a massive 85-foot jump while a hyped crowd watched below.

Riders impressed the judges and crowd alike, showing everyone exactly why the event is called the Progression Session.

The men got things started in the morning, but the women provided a great encore with their own Snowboarding Halfpipe qualification and semifinals in the afternoon. Yiwei Zhang (CHN), Shaun White (USA), Luke Mitrani (USA), Gregory Bretz (USA), Louie Vito (USA), Ben Ferguson (USA), Zachary Black (USA) and Scott James (AUS) advanced directly to Friday's final by finishing in the top 4 in each of their heats.

With the final's last 4 spots to be determined in the semifinal, Dimi de Jong (NED), Ben Kilner (GBR), Scotty Lago (USA) and Taylor Gold (USA) emerged to round out Friday's field.

Snowboarding finals will be held Friday 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the superpipe - free and spectator-friendly!

The field is set for today's Paul Mitchell Progression Session Big Air, running at a new adjusted time of  3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Park City All Stars Alex Schlopy and Joss Christiansen; Gus Kenworthy; and Beau and Jossi Wells are included in the freeskier roster while local talent Ryan Flaska, Stephanie Sue Feld and Alex Rodway are in the snowboarder field.

Snowboard qualifying for the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix begins Wednesday morning in the Eagle Superpipe and the fields are set for both the men and the women. A stacked lineup includes Scotty Lago, Louie Vito, Elena Hight, X Games gold medalist Kelly Clark - and JUST ADDED: Shaun White!

Also a special note: Wednesday's Paul Mitchell Progression Session Big Air, featuring Park City All Stars Alex Schlopy and Joss Christensen, has been moved to an earlier in the day: now running 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. to give you extra time to get up the free Cold War Kids show on Lower Main Street at 7:00!

The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Snowboarding and Freeskiing Halfpipe competitions come to Park City Mountain Resort next week - where the Eagle Superpipe is ready and waiting for some of the world's best halfpipe athletes. Louie Vito, Gretchen Bleiler, Simon Dumont, Jen Hudak and Alex Schlopy are just some of the big names scheduled to compete in next week's events.

Qualifying points for the snowboarding and freeskiing halfpipe Olympic events in Sochi, Russia next year are on the line, so expect big-time style to be shown. Best of all, all the events are free and spectator-friendly!

The Paul Mitchell Progression Session Big Air competition is also on the program for Wednesday, January 30 and will surely be a fan favorite. After the Big Air, make your way to Park City's Historic Main Street for a free concert headlined by Cold War Kids, followed immediately by a fireworks show.

Each and every summer the event proposals roll in with great idea after great idea. There are so many fun events out there; luckily they all want to stop here in Park City. Unfortunately for me, I have to review those proposals and determine which ones we can fit in our calendar. January 4, 2013 -  We’ll be ringing in the New Year with the return of the Friday Night Jib Fights. Snowbasin kicked off the event series December 14 with a packed house. We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and of course Jeremy Cooper’s creative park set up. Registration starts at 4:00 p.m. at the base of the First Time Ticket office. More of a plan ahead type? This year we are introducing online registration, check it out. We’ll be welcoming am and open skiers and riders, men and women divisions once again offering cash prizes for the open division and swag for the ams. January 12-13 – Our friends at Monster Energy have teamed up with Hookit to launch the inaugural 2013 Winter Recon Tour. The mission of this tour is to provide a better platform for snowboarders and skiers of all ages and abilities to compete and showcase their talent. Park City Mountain Resort has long been known as having one of the best superpipes in the world. By hosting top competitions and serving as the training ground to the best athletes in the world, the Eagle Superpipe is continuously ranked by industry publications as being the best of the best. In order to ensure the same quality halfpipe this season, we and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association have decided to reschedule the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix to February 1 – 2, 2013 (originally scheduled to be held December 21 – 22).

The Grand Prix includes International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup competitions for both halfpipe skiing and snowboarding, and is an Olympic Halfpipe qualifying event for the 2014 Winter Games for both events. The event will also include the Paul Mitchell Progression Session Big Air event Wednesday, January 29.

The 2011-12 season was another big one for Park City All Star Ashley Battersby - but she's getting plenty used to putting together big seasons. Inclusion on the first U.S. Freeskiing Slopestyle national team, a top 10 finish at Winter X Slopestyle, her first Switch 1080 at Nine Queens and a top 10 AFP Womens Slopestyle world ranking were just some of the highlights added to her resume last winter.
