Verizon Not Allowing BIS BlackBerry Users To Access BES Express

One of the thoughts behind BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express was reducing the costs companies that have employees that have their own BlackBerry devices that they want to hook up to the corporate email system. Even though employees may buy their own BlackBerry device and pay for the monthly service fee, IT shops were faced with the cost of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and client access licenses.

BES Express is free and there are no client access licenses required. BESX even allows BlackBerry users to connect via BlackBerry Inernet Service (BIS) as compared to BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES), unless, of course, you are a Verizon Wireless subscriber.

On March 1, 2010, RIM will launch BES Express (BESX), an entry-level version of BES.As with all Corporate email solutions, customers will need a corporate email data plan or feature added to a voice plan to allow access to BESX.

Note: Customers on the Email and Web for BlackBerry $29.99 data feature MAY NOT utilize BESX.

Overview:
BESX replaces BlackBerry Professional Software (BPS) in RIM’s product lineup and allows businesses using Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)® Exchange or Microsoft Small Business Server to support up to 75 BlackBerry subscribers without having to purchase Client Access Licenses (CAL) or a dedicated server. Additional users can be supported if BESX is installed on a dedicated server.

With the launch of BESX, RIM will discontinue the sale of BPS. Verizon Wireless will sell through our remaining BPS inventory and RIM will continue to support this solution for the foreseeable future.

Customer Information/Eligibility:
BESX will be available directly from the RIM website. Customers should be directed there for additional product information.
BESX will not be available directly from Verizon Wireless.
As with all Corporate email solutions, customers will need a corporate email data plan or feature added to a voice plan to allow access to BESX

MasterCard Introduces ATM Hunter For BlackBerry

MasterCard has introduced a new BlackBerry application that allows BlackBerry users around the world to locate ATM terminals utilizing their devices internal GPS. ATM Hunter is a free BlackBerry download and you can pick it up on BlackBerry App World.

New BlackBerry Slider Images Emerge — Not As Thick As You Might Think

One of the concerns for many BlackBerry users, when it comes to a BlackBerry with a slide-out keyboard, is that the device would be just too thick to use comfortably. BBLeaks has more pictures of the BlackBerry Slider online and in a side view comparison to the BlackBerry 8900, the BlackBerry Slider is not as thick as you might think.

It looks like the BlackBerry Curve 8530 won’t be the only Verizon BlackBerry getting an OS update in the not too distant futre. Word on the street is that the an OS 5 update for the Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 is coming sometime in the next couple of weeks. It will have Push-To-Talk support which will cost you an additional $5 per month on your Verizon bill.

Official OS 5 Update Coming To The Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8530

Word on the street is that OS 5.0.0.508 is officially coming to Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8530. The general consensus is that 5.0.0.508 will be out in the next couple of weeks.

OS 5.0.0.508 features include:

Simplified lock-key function
Overall improvements to battery life
Improved video streaming
Improved Voice Activated Dialing function
Message enhancements
Bluetooth improvements

RIM Confirms Plans To Bring Manufacturing Plant To Brazil

There have been rumors floating around that RIM was going to start building BlackBerry devices in Brazil. Looks like those rumors were true.

A senior editor from BerryReview.com was attending a RIM development seminar in Brazil where the rumor was confirmed.

They plan on working with Flextronics to manufacture the BlackBerry Curve 8520 in Brazil. It looks like RIM is planning on making an even bigger play into Latin America with Brazil combined with their current plant in Mexico
