On this particular show we were joined by Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, and we talked about his WBC welterweight (147 lbs) fght in July. San Francisco, CA- Writer Kevin Perry joined host Pedro Fernandez and “went off” on Las Vegas boxing judges Jerry Roth and Glenn Trowbridge after they committed what amounts to an atrocity in their scoring a one-side fight, a rout, when Richard Abril all but shut out Brandon Rios, they gave the fight 8-4 & 7-5 for Rios. The second half of this one hour Sunday edition was all about MMA, the UFC & Strikeforce when Mike Pyle, who fights on FX Cable June 8 vs. Josh Neer. San Francisco, CA- This edition of Ring Talk Boxing” was not the easiest hour of radio I’ve done in in my almost three decades of radio. On this show, we paid tribute to important figures (and my friends) in the boxing world that have left us. With taped interviews, I take you back to former World champion Genaro Hernandez’s last interview before losing a battle to Cancer last June. When I first did this live, I broke up into tears, thus listening to it again was tough. But Genaro was classy until the end. I first met ex-CNN & Showtime announcer Nick Charles when he was with CNN in the 1980s. We would cross paths and bounce ideas off one another quite often. This interview was emotional as well, but hey, that’s life. I then brought in Don Chargin, the Hall of Fame promoter as “Ring Talk” noted it’s been two years since the “First Lady of Boxing,” the one and only Lorraine Chargin fell victim to Cancer. We ended the show with one of the funniest stories I’ve ever told in boxing. Here’s a hint, it had something to so with sex and ex-champ! Having watched a number of his fights, Barnett would rather “pound on somebody” when he could have slapped a submission hold on his opponent. San Francisco, CA- In the Saturday MMA hour of Ring Talk Radio,” former Nevada State Athletic Commission head and now UFC Vice President Marc Ratner talked about UFC 144 and how the UFC is now sanctioned in almost every state in the country. He also reminisced about our late friends Chuck Minker and Johnny Tocco. Minker a close friend and the ex-Nevada Commission boss died 20 years ago at the age of 41. We went through the results, the next UFC that will air on Fuel TV February 15, as well as the upcoming UFC 144 Pay Per View from Tokyo, Japan on February 25 with Frankie Edgar taking on Ben Henderson in the main event.

San Francisco, CA- When I first met Virgil Hunter, the trainer of World super middleweight champion Andre Ward, some of his training methods seemed a bit extreme to me. Take for example, Hunt’s having then amateur star Ward pushing an automobile around a Hayward, CA parking lot for strength. Ward would go onto to win the Olympic Gold Medal in 2004 and recently captured the Showtime Super Six 168 lb. Boxing Tournament. Along the way, in four fights, Ward might have lost two or three rounds, thus the reason for my naming him “Fighter of The Year” in December, long before the other accolades came forth.
