Tekken the Movie: Oranges, Coffee, and a Bar of Chocolate. [PART 1]

I don't know what made me watch this movie. I'd normally shun live action adaptations of Video Games/Anime/Manga as it would never pass beyond my standards. The teaser I guess was good enough, and the fact that Jin was played by an Asian (albeit half), Jon Foo, is definitely a plus for me. So I thought I'd give it a shot, even though they left most of THE iconic and long-time characters out of the story: Paul Phoenix, King, Xiao Yu, Hwoarang, just to name a few. That was one of the biggest turnoff I had with this movie and it'll be a prevailing nagging thought while watching the film.

Tekken was one of the games I loved playing back on PS1, and a bit of PS2. I played Tekken 3 way back when I was an elementary student, 4th or 5th Grade, I think? So you could imagine how long it was, and therefore had strong nostalgic attachment to it. This is definitely one of the factors I look for when watching live action adaptations. The Nostalgic factor. Sure, there are 'creative' liberties one could argue about, but the fact that it is an 'adaptation', speaks for itself. If you're going to change so much in the story, might as well create your own, and stop labeling it as [insert-what-goddamn-forsaken-title-here]. Plus, the audience you would mostly want to target at is of course, the existing fanbase of the franchise, and boy, you sure wouldn't want to piss them off.

Don't get me wrong though, I haven't started the review yet. ;) Just laying out the factors.

So to start, I now warn you that this is gonna be a LONG-ASS REVIEW , (edit: decided to split it into two-part posts) and I've already given you a bit of what you're most likely be reading. So if you aren't up to a semi-ranty, scrollbar of doom article, feel free to leave. Or if you're up to sparing a few minutes of your time with a comprehensive review of the movie, I'll be really grateful. Oh and of course,

SPOILERS BE AHEAD. (not that there's so much intrigue in this movie that you'll REGRET-awfully-you'd-want-to-die if read beforehand, though)

Firstly, I'll throw out the turnoff I have of not having the iconic characters in the movie so you'll get a lesser biased (if not biased at all), review. At times there might be some cases wherein I could become, or come off as biased to some, so I'll throw that disclaimer first and foremost. Secondly, I stopped playing (generally) when I entered High School (I'm in College now), so yes, most of the game association will be out of memory (and a bit of research). I'll mention if there are things that I don't know about that could possibly occurred in the later installment of the game anyhoo, so don't worry, and take this review with a grain of salt.

I don't have any problems with Jon Foo playing as Jin, to begin with, because he's an eye-candy (can I say, Asian Orlando Bloom? ;)). :F

But sadly, that's that. He's definitely a sight for sore eyes (and orgasm to my ears. oh God, the British accent! ♥), but he isn't the Jin Kazama I'd imagine him to be. He has to be fierce. But given the storyline this movie is going for, we all have to start small (and wimpy). :)

But for goodness' sake, spare the voice, PLEASE?

I mean, Foo is not the tallest man on earth, and let's say, he's the only man who could do the job, and the lack of a few inches, I can forgive. But PLEASE. If you're going to portray someone who's bound to be the King of Iron Fist Tournament (c'mon, who are we kidding here), please make his voice less Bieber-y? (Oh the greatness of this little kid projecting to every possible direction of the cosmos, is now, I hereby declare, a word; i.e. an adjective) a few tweak on the audio should do the trick, right? It's hard to take him serious when he's talking to thugs and other street characters with that voice of his, seriously.

At this point in the film, I don't know what to expect. Are they portraying Jin here as an adolescent? And by adolescent, I mean 13 years old? :/ Certainly not. Jin should've been at least 19 at that time.

Anyways.

I'm not gonna focus on the plot as it is one of the greatly used up plot where protagonist enters tournament due to tragic past, wins it, and gets a hot babe to make out with him along the process. So I'm gonna focus on the technical aspects and how they presented their plot, as I believe that these little details makes up or breaks up this kind of movie setup.

The movie started nice, with a bit of running around as you would expect in an action movie (I'll let the scene where Jin not-so-mysteriously got past the Jacks, the security force of Tekken Corp, wherein he's only a few steps away, hiding behind in what turns out to be the most obscure places, not to mention impenetrable to a shitload of bullets, on earth that Bin Laden's probably been using it right now... a rusty old car chassis, pass, since it's only for killing time on listing the characters for the intro anyway.) But the music killed it slightly. They could've chosen a better metal rock song if they really want to go for it. It doesn't pump you up, and instead seems like a 'childish' choice. But then again, it's cheaper to buy the rights of a song than hire a good composer and make one from scratch. But then again, it's also easier to find another song fitted to the scene. I dunno about you, but the song seemed lax for that cut.

I also took notice that the voices are poorly voice-over'ed. Even the soldiers chanting the Mishima Hymn sounded like there were only 3 of them when there are a whole bunch. The computer's voice sounded so clear that there's no 'robotic' feel to it. If they only filmed the audio Live, then it would sound more natural. Or they could purposefully decrease the quality (to have a bit of static/grain in there). Honestly, some might not notice these things, but it's part of the experience. Some people would've been there telling it was lacking something, but couldn't really pinpoint anything. It's because these things are part of the small details, unnoticeable most of the time, that makes up the whole experience the film delivers.

Then there's this blonde girl who possibly gave the most entertainment in this film other than Jin himself, and for the wrong reasons, I might add. The inclusion of her baffled me at first, until they introduced Christie Monteiro. Of course they had to subliminally hint that the girlfriend should be easy to ditch once presented with a much 'tappable' booty, i.e. Christie. The blonde girl acts so horribly it was funny, save for the bed scene with Jin which she showed so much vigor and passion that when the Jacks finally caught up on Jin's whereabouts he could only exclaim "OH SHIT!", and break free from her rhythmic performance, she looked so, so, dazed.

"Oh Jin, why, oh why?"

Oh, I also couldn't help but notice the nice Heihachi and Yoshimitsu poster (the latter showing up later in the film) they had. Very reminiscent of The Godfather (a total classic). And I would LOVE to have them pinned up on my wall. :)

When the fighters finally meet up it was then that my burden was relieved. The scene where Jin and Christie met, particularly. Apparently, only our lil kid Jin here could be able to pull off the greatest way to pick-up a hot, mixed martial arts red head.

"I was admiring your toes."

"You were saying?!"

"Uhh... It's how you spread them... it's impressive."

I surely wish I was kidding, but yes. The dialog did go that way. (Not the exact screenshots and dialog, for the humor) I was LMAO. So yeah, kid here pretty much confirms he's still a 'kid'. :P And with that last sentence of his, I cannot help but wonder how marvelous Christie's toes must be spread.

As you might have probably been aware of, Super Junior will release their 4th album (also known as 4jib album) soon. The boys have been teasing us continuously about it. There is yet to be a confirmation on its release date but we will keep you posted.

Now… we are here to gather all international ELFs to offer a helping hand to our friends over in Korea to fund their project of “4Jib Album Promotion”. As they are a bit short in donations, we need your help in collecting them as much and as fast as possible to make this project happen.

You will find all the details behind the cut.

Hello~ This is Super Junior’s 4jib support team~
There has been some sayings about 4jib, and as SJ are expected to make their comback in the early May, we need lots of support from fans~!!
This year’s 4jib support is divided into two: Food Support and PR Support.
Here are the details about it:
Food Support
-For the three Music programs and Radios
Three music programs:
Since SJ will be making their comebacks to all three broadcasting stations (InkiGayo, Music Bank, and Music Core) we need to supply our Super Junior boys, SJ staffs (managers, drivers, coordinators, etc), broadcasting station staff (camera director, lights director etc), and other celebs on the show that day.
The food will be full meals and some snacks.

Three radio stations:
Since LeeTeuk, EunHyuk, ShinDong, and HeeChul all have radio programmes, we will be supplying all three radio stations with food as well. Young Street (SBS), Sukira (KBS), and ShimShimTaPa (MBC), so we will be supplying some snacks for our boys, staffs, and guests for that day.

The parts of food will be from ShinDong’s parent’s chicken restaurant ^^
The scale of Food support is really big!!! please participate!!!

PR Support
- PR Support will be divided into both ONLINE and OFFLINE.
Offline
Bus advertisement (the metropolitan area only):
Per 1 bus, they’re on the road about 8 to 12 times per one ride, so on average of one, there will be 780 to 800 people who will see the ad; effect the biggest.
1(It’s not only effective for the general public, but advertising on 8 to 9 buses equal the amount of money needed for making PR posters.)
The ad will be on buses with large passengers so that it’s not only for fans but general public as well.
Depending on the donation money, the number of days (start of the date) for PR will be changed~
Regarding the design for bus PR, we’ll upload it ASAP.

PR poster: Poster ads is undecided as there has been a lot of suggestions that Poster ad is not as effective in 3jib PR support.

Online
Putting up banners on MiniHompy (cyworld) and putting up links on blogs
; banners and links will be directed to an online site telling about Super Junior and Super Junior’s fourth album.

Uploading PRing posts on each portal sites

Downloading mp3 files LEGALLY (they count a lot for music programs & awards in Korea!!)

Writing your messages to cheer on SJ (both post & replies on the official site)
; the words you write will be organized and sent to the members along with all the 4jib support goods.

A LOT has happened to me in that hiatus period of mine... and the most FANTASTIC thing so far, is the:

U-KISS LIVE IN MANILA MALL SHOWCASE.

I couldn't stress that one out any BETTER. It's almost a week, and I can vividly see the images rapidly passing by. I'm in a withdrawal stage right now, and believe me, it's HARD typing these things all out.

I dunno why I haven't posted this much sooner, and it's already a week and two days since I've finished setting up the ZoRobin Fandom blog, but yeah. The blog I've set up recently is a success! *yayayaythrowsconfetti*

hahaha. No, it's actually cool. I've been getting A LOT of visitors from Japan, it even surpassed those that visit here in the Philippines! I guess that the pairing really is famous there. But meh. I haven't set up another pairing blog to compare anyway. But it's really nice that you get a lot of visitors from another country other than yours. XD And it's really special because they aren't just visitors passing by, they are actually RETURNING visitors~ which makes me really happy. 8D

I have one from Kawagoe, Saitawa who's been visiting the site at least THRICE a day? (and he/she haven't missed a single day without doing so) Waaa. I'm really happy. But the blog is really new, heck, you could still see the first post! D8 That gives me more pressure to write quality (even though informal and fanon XD) articles. I know they've been reading it as the blog has been linked to Chiebukuro, and yesterday, I've been having a steady amount of visitors because of that. AIGOOO. It really makes me think about lessening the amount of spazz on the posts! Now that I've thought of it, I look like an idiot on those. hahahaha

For some reason, Google hasn't crept the blog yet so it doesn't appear on the search engines. I guess it's because I'm inserting Jump Breaks (aka Read More) on the posts that it couldn't get keywords? Probably. I might conduct experiments later. Thankfully, the ZoroxRobin Twitter account is seen (also this blog), so it's still good. Hehe. I've met and made friends with 3 Japanese people already. Good thing they speak ENGLISH! XDDD They're really friendly, loves One Piece, and thinks ZoRobin is a great pair, what more could I ask? 8D So hello to AVIS_000, hanautafall, and lukalukafever! (If you happen to read this blog post anyway. XD)

Just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year (as I haven't done greeting everyone this Christmas), may God bless us all, and let us welcome the Tiger with a bang!

Aside from the fact that I've occupied 80% of the time reading mangas, I really wonder why I haven't decided on going back to blogging sooner. I'll be regretting this later, I know it. :))

Anyway, I'll set up another blog for my ZoRobin fandom... Yes. The MOREEE I read One Piece, the MOREEE I see their interaction, and some of my ~~not-so~~delusional interpretation of Oda's work on the manga, arts, whatever, I shall post there too. Hopefully that will keep this place a tidier one. Anyway, I'll just copy over the ZoRobin posts from here to the new blog and not delete the ones from here, I just can't bear to push the delete button. :P

Ah. This post seems so rushed. I'm so sorry. I'm being rushed by deadlines. AHHH. I better start doing them now. Mkay. Byebye~

A few days ago, I decided to check out the latest subbed episode just for the heck of it and....

Oh, and I just ♥ the fact that Robin's wearing an awfully LOT of GREEN clothes on the openings. XDDDD (haven't watched the endings and some of the openings yet) hmmm. I wonder who's that someone represented by Green. B)

My friends, I'm really sorry I didn't mention anything about this. But...

I'm now engaged. :)

It's very sudden, I know, I myself is taken aback with his sudden proposal. He insists that we marry soon, but I don't know...

I could've said no of course, it's very soon for us to be engaged. I still have to finish my studies... heck, I still have to decide whether I should continue on my course or not! But... I guess I love him too much. How could I ever refuse such an offer from someone I love so dearly? ...I'm sure you'll understand one day. It's been quite some time now that we've been together and I know you'll like him as well once you see him. :) (if you actually read my blog, you'll probably have an idea by now. :) He's a kind, hardworking, and generous man. I can assure you of that. ^^ Again, I'm sorry if I hadn't told you anything until now. We'd like to keep it as private as possible, but now that he has proposed, I guess it's high time that you know about it. It wouldn't be long until you find it out anyway. ^^;

I've opened this up with my family, of course, it was a rather hard time explaining it to them, (it's a long story) but after seeing him, they finally agreed. He also got pretty comfortable with their presence, and vice versa. I'm just glad. :) I believe there would be no problems on their part... and now I just want to say... Please give us your blessings. It'd mean EVERYTHING to me. :')

Heh. He's really enthusiastic, it's kinda fun seeing him so excited. XD In fact we we're thinking of a venue already... I'll be telling you the details. Just read on. ^^

BUT DAYUM!! This one really outdid itself! hahahaha to think that this is SOOO MUCH CRAZIER than the first!

...I think I just died and went to heaven.

The first one I could even comprehend in my mushy little mass of whatever was left of my brain... But this one.... I'm at my wit's end, people! YOU JUST HAVE NO IDEA. XDDDDD

In the dream, he didn't really propose to me, but we were wearing RINGS. The people around us also treated us as engaged couples, so that's how I confirmed it. :)) I can't just say to him, "Are we engaged, oppa?" right?! hahaha

We were in BULACAN, with my grandparents, cousins, uncles, and whatnot. We were planning to go to Baguio to spend our vacation... it was night when we were planning, the ambiance felt like (as it's all fuzzy right now) we were in a resort, having our overnight stay... He's beside me and I just hugged him because he'll not be coming with us. Then the people around us suddenly turned to my elementary schoolmates! With our HS Social Studies prof. :)) WEIRD. Then the surrounding turned into a classroom setting. XDD Then he was whispering to my ear, "Don't go. It would be dangerous right now." Haha. His tone was like we were in a suspense action movie. 2NE1 camp eyes Young JV

Rising hip hop and R&B artist Young JV may just get the biggest break in his career next year if he could seal the deal to be one of the front acts at Korean girl group 2NE1’s planned Manila concert.

Nothing is final yet, but Young JV informed Manila Bulletin Entertainment Online that the promoter for the concert has already contacted him and his road manager to make arrangements.

“The promoter’s name is D-Mac, a former schoolmate of mine. He already knew that I have an album out but it was really my videos on YouTube that got him interested in getting me for the concert,” said Young JV in an exclusive interview.

If plans push through, the 2NE1 concert will be held at Araneta Coliseum in March.

“D-Mac and I already talked on the phone and I think some people are also trying get Rain and The Wonder Girls (act behind the hit song, ‘Nobody’) to hold separate concerts here,” said Young JV.

If all goes well, Young JV said that his talent fee would be of no issue since he knows how big 2NE1 is in Asia nowadays.

“Kahit di malaki ang talent fee na ibigay nila sa akin, I’ll accept the offer. Kahit tubig nga lang ang ibayad nila, I’ll go out there and perform for the exposure doing so will give me,” said he who counts 2NE1’s “Fire” and “I Don’t Care” singles as ones he is most familiar with.

While waiting for things to fall into place, Young JV is busy tending to his career that continues to gather steam. He is set to release “Don’t Know You,” the latest single from his debut CD, “Ready Or Not.” The song is in collaboration with singer Heide Riego and has a video directed by Treb Monteras II.

“‘Don’t Know You’ talks about taking it slow with someone because you want to get to know that person better before taking the relationship to a different level. We went for a simple and clean look for the video because the song is the feel-good type,” he said.

Meanwhile, Young JV’s Lahing Bayani Foundation continues to make significant strides. It recently donated to the Sagip Kapamilya campaign with Young JV himself delivering the goods to ABS-CBN.

“I also helped repack the goods and joined some of my Kapamilya friends in distributing those in Novaliches,” he said.

The hip hop/R&B artist also uses time between gigs to hone his craft. Young JV is undergoing not only voice and dance lessons, but he is attending acting workshops as well.

“You’ll never know when opportunity will knock. I want to be ready when it does,” said he who is gearing up for a major concert next year with guest performers Billy Crawford and Jay R.

Given the chance, Young JV would like to collaborate with either Rachelle Ann Go or Sarah Geronimo in a way that’s similar to Gary Valenciano’s team-up with rock band Sponge Cola.

Young JV recently performed at the Private Secondary School Administrators Association of the Philippines 2009 Mr. PRISAAP event held in Iloilo City at the Centennial Resort Hotel. The artist himself won the MR. PRISAAP title in 2006.

He also performed at the AFP Educational Benefit System recognition night titled “Salute To Success,” which had AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Victor S. Ibrado as guest of honor.

I've been rambling about this on Twitter early this morning and I might just piss off some if I ever continue, so I'll just move it here on my blog.

The Season is coming, the Christmas feeling, and with it, THE feeling... The Suju mania! Kyaaaaa~! ♥

I usually don't feel the Christmas spirit until the day before Christmas itself, sometimes even DAYS after it, but now it's just... YOSH! 8DDDD

The chilly air actually helped too. I'll freeze if I ever let my windows open. XDD

Wait, I might be confusing some, why must I associate Super Junior with the Christmas Season?

Well aside from the fact that tomorrow is Super Junior's 4th Anniversary (!!!! Yes people, we are planning on making #superjunior and #standbykangin on Trending Topics on Twitter Tomorrow !!!) My anniversary for becoming a Suju fan began on the festivities itself! If you've been long here enough, it was exactly on the day I dreamt of HanKyung (Christmas Night) and of Heechul (Christmas Eve) that I've become really hooked with Suju. How awesome of a gift is that, huh? ;D

I'm seriously hooked in this song. And the MV just makes it worse. T_T

The song is just sad, it always manages to well up my tears whenever I see it. The guy on this MV is just GREAT. He's just perfect for the role. The way he looks so helpless, a bit naive, and childlike... it's just GREAT. He perfectly brings to life the lines:

I dunno how to describe it better.

It's also good that he's the one delivering the message of the song, not necessarily Bom. It'd make perfect sense if he is.

The stark contrast of the MV and the sad meaning of the song is also complementing rather than being awkward. It gives off a fairytale vibe but... you just know it won't work. T__T The bright colors actually helps it give a feel-good feeling but when that scene where the guy just pushes his wheelchair over the stairs is just........ heartbreaking. TT_TT Especially the projector thing. It's simply genius. :'( Bom actually brought Christmas early just for the guy. That just explains the guy taking it overwhelmingly. TT____TT They know the guy wouldn't be there for long and she tries hard to be strong in front of her man until the end. The MV just shows the struggle of a couple trying to maintain a normal relationship despite that it'll be broken by inevitable demise. TTTT_______TTTT Again props to the actor giving life to the character. He actually looks good with Bommie too. :') Bommie also did a good job. The two of them looked really cute while playing video games. :')

If you remove the 'ン'　on the sentence covering the wee critter, you can very well see that that little duckie is actually in a Santoryu stance! Ahhhhhhhhhh~ ODA. ODA. ODA. ♥ Some are arguing that they are actually hinting at Ssanji x Robin. As Sanji is represented by a duck, and the following trait it has, with Robin at 'peace' with the ducklings made them think so... Good point actually, I have to admit. BUT I JUST CAN'T, for the life of me, CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY WOULD THEY HAVE TO PUT IN A ZORO DUCKIE IN THERE? The rest of the crew (except maybe for Sanji) aren't symbolized in there either! XDDD

Dear friends,

I’m asking your help to spread the word. Tulungan po ninyo akong ikalat ito. Beyond this, we should also demand action. I disabled a plugin so you can copy the photos of relief goods rotting in DSWD warehouses. You can link this post to your blogs, facebook, websites etc. You can also email the photos.

Philippine News (US based Philippine newspaper) will use this as its front page story this week. Every Filipino has the right to know where the tons of donations from the UN and other counties go. Kahit po nakakahiya sa mga nag-donate. Kung sa ganitong paraan, matutulungan natin ang mga nasalanta, then by all means, let’s do it.

For those who have the time, please try to volunteer sa DSWD warehouses. Getting in was not easy. A friend had to put in a word for us. Let’s see kung madali nang makapasok sa DSWD warehouse ang mga volunteers.

DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral: Wala kasing volunteers.

This short interview was done over the phone. Philippine News wanted to hear her side pero ayaw niyang makipag-usap sa press. After four tries, pinasabi na lang niya ang maikling sagot na ito sa secretary niya - “Walang volunteers”.

I don’t want to accuse her of corruption but at the very least she is showing signs of being totally incompetent. We are in a state of calamity where every second counts. May namamatay araw-araw dahil sa sakit.

In my opinion, these deaths could have been prevented if Secretary Cabral had tried a little harder to do her job.

Deaths from Philippine storms nears 1,000

“Tropical Storm Ketsana left 420 dead and 37 missing when it flooded 80 percent of Manila on September 26, a disaster the government said affected 4.35 million people.

Some areas are still flooded three weeks later and 189,000 people remain in evacuation centres,

Typhoon Parma hit the northern Philippines on October 3 and lingered as a tropical storm for a week, triggering landslides that killed 438 people and leaving 51 missing mostly in mountain communities.

The government agency said Parma affected 4.16 million people, including more than 32,000 who remain at evacuation centres.”

Our government begged the world for more donations. Sumagot ang buong mundo sa ating panawagan. In less than three weeks, dumaong ang mga barko, ibinaba mula sa mga cargo planes, i-diniliver ng mga trak at container vans ang sandamakmak na relief goods. Cash donations were in the millions of dollars.

But these donations must be coursed through DSWD

Nagpalabas ng directive ang pangulo. Individuals, private companies and other nations were ENCOURAGED to send their donations to DSWD. I blogged about it here and the video of her announcement here.

This PGMA directive sounded suspicious to me then. Now I know why. Here’s the story.

A group of eight people, your ate Ella included, went to one of DSWD warehouses to help in repacking relief goods. We know they need volunteers pero hindi namin akalaing WALANG TAO TALAGA SA LOOB NG WAREHOUSE!

As in sa isang humongous warehouse (1000++ sq.m) NA PUNONG-PUNO NG RELIEF GOODS HANGGANG BUBONG, ISANG DSWD employee lang at ISANG SECURITY GUARD ang tao!!

Kailangang magpa-register at i-schedule ang volunteering

The warehouse can only take as much as 50 volunteers at a time or per shift. Here you will find that there is a 4-hour shift, and an option for a 6-hour shift for the volunteers to indicate their availability.

What “volunteers”? Nasaan?

Aside from the 8 of us? Nope, there was nobody there. Bakit kailangan ang scheduling? Feeling hindi ba magkamayaw at nagu-unahan ang mga volunteers?

I know somebody who wanted to volunteer many times. She was always bumped off, laging nirere-schedule kasi “there were too many volunteers” daw. At tuwing Sunday lang daw puwede. What the hell is going on here?

The relief goods are not going anywhere

We arrived at about 8 am and left by midafternoon and yes, you guessed it right. Kami pa rin ang tao bukod sa isang DSWD employee sa loob ng warehouse maghapon. Walang ibang dumating.

The relief goods are not moving. By the way things look, they are not going anywhere. Hindi maglalakad mag-isa ang mga donations na ito papunta sa mga evacuation centers.

Look Ma, sampung lata ng sardinas! How generous! Kaldero ang unang ilalagay sa sako. Sabong panglaba (bar soap) at sampung sardinas sa ilalim. Siyam na sabon sa gilid ng kaldero. Local goods lahat syempre.

Tapos papatungan ng isang tuwalya at isang pack ng sanitary napkin.

Sisiksikan ng tatlong rolyo ng kumot(?) ang blue water jug tapos ipapatong sa kaldero sa loob ng sako.

Last but not the least, lalagyan ng dalawang banig.

Sabay tatahiin na ang sako. O di ba, parang asong tinapunan ng buto ang mga nasalanta? Eniwey, busog naman sila sa SAMPUNG lata ng Mega sardinas

YOU THINK?? WTF is the matter with these people? Mag-iisang buwan na mula nang masalanta ang mga kababayan natin. ISANG BUWAN!! Do you mean “do not delay ang dati nang delayed”?? Shet.

Anong ginagawa ng mga donations na ito sa warehouse?? APAT na warehouse ang nasa loob ng compound na ‘yon! APAT na warehouse na punong-puno ng inaalikabok na relief goods! Relief goods na ayaw yata ibigay sa mga nasalanta. Halatang-halata.

Wow! May bagong shipment na naman! At the rate DSWD is moving, next year na madi-discover kung ano ang laman ng mga kahong ito.

“The first of two of the largest high-energy food shipments from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) arrived in the country two days ago for victims of storm “Ondoy” and typhoon “Pepeng.”

The biscuits were fortified with essential vitamins and minerals for supplementary feeding to children, pregnant women and the elderly in evacuation camps. Another 100 tons of biscuits will arrive on Oct. 24, in a continuing effort to provide food assistance to flood victims.

Sige, ideretso ‘nyo ulit ‘yan sa DSWD warehouse. Para AMAG naman ang abutin ng biskwit… at sapot ng gagamba.

Conclusion

Sa maghapon namin sa warehouse,nakagawa kami ng 150 sacks of relief goods. 150 bags of relief goods lang ang lumabas sa warehouse na ‘yon that day. At nandoon pa rin sa loob ang mga imported relief goods, safe, sound and packed as the day they arrived.

Nakisakay kami palabas sa isang DSWD delivery van. Gusto sana kaming ihatid ng driver hanggang Makati pero wala raw siyang sobrang gasolina. Ibinaba na lang niya kami sa gitna ng EDSA. Millions of dollars in donations, walang extrang pang-gasolina.

Susulpot din siguro ang laman ng mga mahiwagang kahon at mapapasakamay din ng mga tao…sa ARAW NG ELEKSYON. O mabibili na nila ang mga imported goods na ‘yon sa mga puwesto sa Quiapo at Divisoria.

Suggestions lang po sa DSWD:

Alam ‘nyo palang walang mag-volunteer sa inyo, bakit hindi kayo mag-hire ng mga tao? Bayaran ‘nyo ng arawan para mag-repack. Ang daming walang trabaho, makakatulong pa kayo. Hindi naman malaking kabawasan ‘yon sa bilyong pisong donasyon na natanggap ninyo.

Isa pa, gaano ba karami ang mga sundalo natin? Hindi ba puwedeng ipagawa sa kanila ‘yan? Baka isang araw lang, tapos na ang problema ‘nyo

Bakit hindi ‘nyo ibigay ang trabaho sa mga NGO, churches, private charities, TV stations? I’m sure they are more than willing to help. Time is of the essence. Huwag kayong suwapang. Obvious ba, hindi ‘nyo naman kaya.

Kung talagang gugustuhin ninyong makarating agad sa mga kawawang biktima ang mga donasyong ‘yon, nagawa ‘nyo na ‘yan. Maraming paraan…kung talagang gusto ‘nyo lang.You are the government. You have the power, the resources and the money. You just have to really care.

A word of encouragement from my favorite speaker, Mr. Francis Kong, during in this time of need.

WHEN TRAGEDY STRIKES

There are questions that are hard to answer.

In the wake of the recent calamity many people are asking questions.

Why did the calamity occur?
Who is responsible for this?
Why does this have to happen to me at a time like this?
Where is God in all of these?
Why do I feel so angry?
Is this the end times?
Is God judging our country?
What will happen to me now?
Will I still be able to recover?

Tragedies are real. And the people who are affected by tragedies are not just statistics. They are real people. In any tragedy the tears are real and so the worst thing to do is to pretend it’s not that bad. Whether it is a personal tragedy or a calamity that hits a family, a city or even a country, the hurts and the pains are real and we need to understand some principles behind it.

1. TRAGEDIES WILL HAPPEN.

In this world there will be trouble.

Suffering and pain are real. No one is spared from trouble.

Climate change, ecological disasters, wars and rumors of wars are mostly caused by man’s sinfulness. There is a saying that goes: “Old man start wars and send the young ones to die in them.” And then there are the natural calamities. I remember the tsunami, the earthquakes that killed a lot more people in Indonesia while Manila was under water. There will be trouble in this world. It is part of life and existence in this planet.

2. TRAGEDIES REVEAL CHARACTER

The recent calamity has produced heroes. I think of the soldiers who gave up their lives in saving others. I think of this movie actor who saved his neighbors. I think of the countless young people who offered their time and labor helping out with packing relief goods. I think of the many private companies and individuals who did not hesitate in donating money and goods and many of them did so anonymously.

Buy tragedy also reveals sinfulness, greed and selfishness.

I think of the local official who used a rubber raft in saving his family and himself alone without taking anybody else with him when there was more than enough room to accommodate others in the raft.

I think of the local officials who withheld the giving of the relief goods because they were waiting for media coverage. I think of this executive who drowned and later on with the body recovered revealing his ring and Rolex missing.

Crisis does not create character. It simply reveals it.

3. TRAGEDIES ARE PURPOSEFUL

God is sovereign. He is still in control. But we need to learn lessons from the calamity to enable us to improve our current situation. We should not allow the recent tragedy to leave without a purpose. There are so many lessons to be learned from this.

Calamity preparation. Zoning. Safety and precautionary measures, etc. If we did not learn from this recent calamity, then the tragedy did not serve its purpose.

I cancelled all of my talks and seminars this week, got my kids with me and helped out in a relief operations center. I encourage you to do the same. This is the best time to teach our children to think beyond themselves and discover the reality that we are a part of the community.

Give what we can give. And serve while we can serve.

Go to the nearest evacuation center. Donate goods or money. Just help.

And then there is talk that there will be stronger typhoons to come.

When logic and reason stay totally helpless in situations like this, the best think you and I can do is to pray. I thought through this the other day. And I posted this thought on my Facebook page (got a tremendous amount of response all over the world):

“The flood waters have not yet subsided and a stronger storm is headed our way. In times like these, when logic and reason does not work, prayer does! Speakers like me can encourage people to stay strong in the midst of the storm. Scientists can provide helpful info on how to act during a storm but only Jesus can still the storm.”

ELF Philippines Helping Hands is an administrator-directed program for providing community service and disaster relief to those in need. This program which is operating right now for the tropical storm "Ondoy" victims in the Philippines, can also assist government leaders in establishing relationships with key opinion leaders.

With the broad range of needs and services in today's complex society, ELF Philippines could become involved in a wide variety of community activities. When the administrators and public affairs council consider which public affairs activities are most productive and beneficial to both the organization and the community, the following guidelines will prove helpful:

1. Every public affairs activity should be consistent with the Public Affairs Core Purpose to build relationships that are strategic.

2. Each activity should support an objective defined by the adviser and the council.

The following activities below have proven to be helpful to DPAs around the world.

a. DINNERS FOR TEN

Experience has shown that genuine local relationships can be built with a concept called "Dinners for Ten". Just as it sounds, invite about ten strategically picked guests for dinner. Generally held in a home, these dinners provide an excellent forum to not only get to know one another, but enable directors of public affairs to meet with like-minded community residents about a subject of mutual interest or concern.

The dinners should include about five ELF Philippines representatives (public affairs council members and administrators) and about five community leaders so that ongoing relationships can be established that are mutually beneficial.

Once the dinners are held, continue to foster the relationships.

b. FAMILY VALUES AWARDS

Some public affairs councils around the world have enjoyed success by sponsoring local "Family Values Awards". These awards represent an excellent opportunity for us to honor those who have defended or strengthened the family in their area. Microsoft Power Point presentations on the family have often been used in conjunction with the awards presentation.

When properly planned and executed, the "Family Values Award" activity allows the organization to reach out to VIPs in the community, draw attention from the media, and ultimately convey to the world the God’s message that the family is the eternal component in His plan for our salvation.

c. ONE-ON-ONE VISITS

ELF Philippines benefits from well-planned visits with local community leaders. The visits should be relevant and appropriate so that ongoing relationships can be established that are mutually beneficial.

For example, if you are trying to build acquaintances with local city leaders, you might want to meet with the mayor, city council members, commissioners, chief of staff, and other officials.

Relationships need to be maintained and nurtured.

Join us upon lending a helping hand.

MY SHORT ESSAY ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES

Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines . Do you really think the corruption is the problem of the Philippines ? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines .

Let me first talk about my country, Korea . It might help you understand my point. After the Korean War, South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world. Koreans had to start from scratch because entire country was destroyed after the Korean War, and we had no natural resources.

Koreans used to talk about the Philippines , for Filipinos were very rich in Asia . We envy Filipinos. Koreans really wanted to be well off like Filipinos. Many Koreans died of famine. My father & brother also died because of famine. Korean government was very corrupt and is still very corrupt beyond your imagination, but Korea was able to develop dramatically because Koreans really did their best for the common good with their heart burning with patriotism.

Koreans did not work just for themselves but also for their neighborhood and country. Education inspired young men with the spirit of patriotism.

40 years ago, President Park took over the government to reform Korea . He tried to borrow money
from other countries, but it was not possible to get a loan and attract a foreign investment because the economic situation of South Korea was so bad. Korea had only three factories. So, President Park sent many mine workers and nurses to Germany so that they could send money to Korea to build a factory.
They had to go through horrible experience.

In 1964, President Park visited Germany to borrow money. Hundred of Koreans in Germany came to the airport to welcome him and cried there as they saw the President Park . They asked to him, "President, when can we be well off ?" That was the only question everyone asked to him. President Park cried with them and promised them that Korea would be well off if everyone works hard for Korea , and the President of Germany got the strong impression on them and lent money to Korea . So, President Park was able to build many factories in Korea . He always asked Koreans to love their country from their heart.

Many Korean scientists and engineers in the USA came back to Korea to help developing country
because they wanted their country to be well off. Though they received very small salary, they did their best for Korea. They always hoped that their children would live in well off country.

My parents always brought me to the places where poor and physically handicapped people live. They wanted me to understand their life and help them. I also worked for Catholic Church when I was in the army. The only thing I learned from Catholic Church was that we have to love our neighborhood. And, I have loved my neighborhood. Have you cried for the Philippines ? I have cried for my country several times. I also cried for the Philippines because of so many poor people. I have been to the New Bilibid prison. What made me sad in the prison were the prisoners who do not have any love for their country. They go to mass and work for Church. They pray everyday.

However, they do not love the Philippines . I talked to two prisoners at the maximum-security compound, and both of them said that they would leave the Philippines right after they are rele ased from the prison. They said that they would start a new life in other countries and never come back to the Philippines .

Many Koreans have a great love for Korea so that we were able to share our wealth with our neighborhood. The owners of factory and company were distributed their profit to their employees fairly so that employees could buy what they needed and saved money for the future and their children.

When I was in Korea , I had a very strong faith and wanted to be a priest. However, when I came to the Philippines , I completely lost my faith. I was very confused when I saw many unbelievable
situations in the Philippines . Street kids always make me sad, and I see them everyday. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia , but there are too many poor people here.
People go to church every Sunday to pray, but nothing has been changed.

My parents came to the Philippines last week and saw this situation. They told me that Korea was much poorer than the present Philippines when they were young. They are so sorry that there are so many beggars and street kids. When we went to Pasangjan, I forced my parents to take a boat because it would fun. However, they were not happy after taking a boat. They said that they would not take the boat a gain because they were sympathized the boatmen, for the boatmen were very poor and had a small frame. Most of people just took a boat and enjoyed it. But, my parents did not enjoy it because of love for them.

My mother who has been working for Catholic Church since I was very young told me that if we just go to mass without changing ourselves, we are not Catholic indeed. Faith should come with action.
She added that I have to love Filipinos and do good things for them because all of us are same and have received a great love from God. I want Filipinos to love their neighborhood and country as much as they love God so that the Philippines will be well off.

I am sure that love is the keyword, which Filipinos should remember. We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from person. Love must start in everybody, in a s mall scale and have to grow. A lot of things happen if we open up to love. Let's put away our prejudices and look at our worries with our new eyes.

I discover that every person is worthy to be loved. Trust in love, because it makes changes possible. Love changes you and me. It changes people, contexts and relationships. It changes the world. Please lov e your neighborhood and country.

Jesus Christ said that whatever we do to others we do to Him. In the Philippines , there is God for people who are abused and abandoned. There is God who is crying for love. If you have a child, teach them how to love the Philippines . Teach them why they have to love their neighborhood and country.
You already know that God also will be very happy if you love others.

That's all I really want to ask you Filipinos.
