John-Robert Lee Rimel

Twelve year old John-Robert Lee Rimel is a rising singer/performer from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He currently attends Middle School and is in the 7^th Grade. John-Robert sings in the school chorus where he was selected for the All District Middle School Choir and was also selected through a rigorous audition process for the All State Virginia Middle School Honor Choir. He has the distinguished honor of being the only boy selected in Shenandoah County. John is the oldest of 4 children, so his siblings are always looking up to him.

His Father shared with me that John-Robert showed musical talent at a very young age. Their first memory of his ability came during a visit from his Aunt who played guitar, when she noticed that John-Robert was humming along in perfect pitch. “We didn’t think much of it at the time”; his father said. “He was just 5 years old”.

As several years past, John-Robert would ask to sing acappella at dinner parties or gatherings. They all thought how cool, as he was singing the songs from start to finish in perfect pitch remembering all the lyrics perfectly!

I’m told that John-Robert’s breakout performance was when he was 9 years old. A local Singer was introducing her album at the Shenandoah Relay for Life Event at the Shenandoah Fairgrounds. His parents noticed that people were not paying too much attention. So as his father passed the stage, he asked if John-Robert could sing a song on stage. She replied, bring him up! John-Robert had been playing kickball at the time, so with dirty knees, shirt, and shorts, a hot and sweaty John-Robert headed to the stage. At first she kind of patronized John-Robert a little, but once he opened his mouth, you could have heard a pin drop in that Grandstand. People were literally running to the stage to hear who was singing Train’s Hit “Hey Soul Sister” acappella. When he finished, the crowd roared!!! His parents looked at each other in disbelief, because John-Robert had never stepped foot on stage in his young life before. He had performed unfazed by the hundreds of people in attendance!

His father explained; “He has been hooked ever since!”

Following the Relay for Life Event, John-Robert’s dad made an appointment with an instructor at James Madison University Music Department to listen to John-Robert, sing. While the instructor did not work with children younger than High School age, he agreed to listen to John-Robert. He watched John-Robert’s first video of the Relay for Life Event footage and his mouth dropped to the floor. He asked if he had any prior vocal lessons or any stage training. “No, absolutely no training”; his father replied.

After spending 45 minutes to an hour with John-Robert, he came back and asked if he could speak to his father privately. “Do you realize your son has absolutely perfect pitch with a range outside the box”; he exclaimed. He also mentioned his beautiful tone. He went on to say that John-Robert had been truly blessed and born with a God Given Talent, something that can’t be taught.

After their appointment with the instructor, they headed to Robby Meadows Recording Studio and a tour. John-Robert’s dad asked if Robby would like to hear John-Robert sing before they went any further; sure he replied. John-Robert sang “Beth” by KISS acappella leaving Robby in amazement.

It was from that quick audition that Robby cleared the way for John-Robert to sing on the RFD nationally televised Virginia Dreams Center Stage Show, Rockingham County Fair and WHSV TV3 Noon News as their Musical Guest 3X.
John-Robert has been singing ever since that day of visiting the JMU Instructor and Robby Meadows Recording Studio. He has performed at Fairs, Carnivals, Convocations, Funerals, Local Sporting Events, Churches, Revivals, Events, Ceremonies, Fundraisers, Open Mics, Relay for Life, and much more. John-Robert is currently working with Ben “Cooter” Jones of “The Dukes of Hazzard” on The Shenandoah Jamboree Show which is held on the 1^st Saturday of each month thru November at The Yellow Barn at Shenandoah Caverns in Woodstock, VA. This show consists of country, bluegrass and gospel music from local singers, but also has a special guest headliner who is usually from Nashville. John-Robert is the youngest cast member on the show at just 12 years of age. John-Robert will be singing at the 2013 Dukes of Hazzard Fan Fair in Nashville this June. What an awesome opportunity to showcase his voice in front of thousands of fans. Ben Jones wants to introduce John-Robert to Nashville.

John-Robert has a very busy summer ahead of him. Everything from The Shenandoah Jamboree Show, County Fairs, Carnivals, Wine Festivals, Lawn Parties, Relay for Life Events, etc….even some local community service where he will be doing some singing at Assisted Living Facilities and several Nursing Homes. John-Robert is all about giving back to the community; very rarely does he ever turn down a singing opportunity which involves helping others.

John-Robert’s dad shared the following story with me.

“John-Robert and I were driving through town when we saw that the Shenandoah Theater was up for sale in Strasburg VA. John-Robert looks at me and says, “If I ever make it big one day, I’m going to buy that place so others can have a place to sing like me.” John-Robert was given the opportunity to sing in the Theater when he was 10. He wants others to have that same chance as he did.”

John-Robert has co-written a song called “Daydreamer” with singer, songwriter, musician Emma Rowley from the Northern Virginia. He has also been playing and singing with his guitar on a regular basis. He especially enjoys singing acappella, to backing tracks, and with “Cooter’s” Garage Band.

If you are ever within a 60 mile radius of Edinburg, please keep your eyes and ears open, you just might run into John-Robert. He just might be singing acappella in a McDonalds, Lowes, Wal-Mart, Super Market, American Eagle Store, Old Navy or Mall. John-Robert will sing to anyone who asks him to sing. He can sing to one person or thousands, it’s all the same to him.

Finding and introducing new talent is what this website thrives on. John-Robert is just another fine example of the outstanding talent that is awaiting the right producer to come along. While John-Robert is making his debut on this website today, I can assure you this will not be his last feature article. This young man has begun the ride of a life time with his teen years still ahead of him. Watch out for John-Robert, this is one singing prodigy, who is headed for the stars.

Sam Verlinden Debuts Original Song and Music Video “I Want Ya”

Of all the artists that have graced this site, Sam Verlinden is one of the longest and most featured talents on Rivenmaster’s Place. Sam’s first article ran on September 30, 2009, only a few weeks after the sites conception, and he shares the honor of being one of two artists who were featured nearly every day for an entire month.

Sam Verlinden has always demonstrated a vocal talent that exceeds his years of experience. He has amazed millions through his YouTube Site and excited audiences numbering in the thousands at outdoor concert events held in New Zealand. While the ocean is the only thing that has kept him from a recent visit to the United States his fame has not been hindered, reaching across several continents resulting in an ever growing fan base.

Sam’s last article published here was in 2011 not long after he performed at the legendary Parachute Festival on the Main stage. This performance really gave him a boost to his local fan numbers and set the stage for even bigger things.

Sam has never stopped working, performing and singing, and like most young singers grabs every opportunity to perform. There was also the move to College, (High School in New Zealand), which tripled the amount of homework that goes with that territory, as well as his active involvement in rugby. Saying Sam was busy would be an understatement when it comes to his everyday life activities.

Last year Sam began working with a NZ Producer who discovered him on YouTube, which led to Sam being offered a recording contract shortly thereafter. He has been working in the studio nearly every week on new material, and shared with me that he has been learning much. He not only has learned a lot about the record industry in general, but also has learned much about the process of creating an original song. This is quite evident in his new release “I Want Ya” which debuted for the first time today!

When asked about what went into the development of his new original, he replied;

“How it works is – the Producer usually builds a beat and then we collectively write the lyrics, which is something I’d never really done before. My mom always tells me because I’m good at English in school, I should be able to apply those skills – but it doesn’t really work that way. But I’m learning and sharpening those skills – and sometimes the lyrics flow easily which is awesome. “

Over the past couple of years Sam was approached by various record labels, (including one from the US). The Record Label that Sam signed with is a local NZ Label who has a contract with Universal Music Group in NZ. A few months ago it was established which song Sam would release as his first single and it was mixed and mastered in the studio to make it ‘radio-ready’.

Shortly afterward, he started working with a Film Director, talking through some concepts for the music video. The Film Director worked very quickly and before long the concept had been developed, locations sorted, and a lead girl chosen! Sam told me that the team encouraged his creative input, but when it came to the video, he left the expertise to the professionals.

“I’m very happy with how it came out!”, Sam exclaimed.

When asked if he would offer some advice to the younger talented kids who are just beginning their musical pursuits Sam left this advice.

“Take every opportunity you can to perform and showcase your skills, post on YouTube – and surround yourselves with good people you trust. Most importantly stay humble!”

When asked what’s next in his exciting adventure Sam said;

“Last week my Record Label boss was telling me that along with the release of my new single – would come a lot of hard work, promotional work, performance bookings and more recordings to follow. And to stay humble!! I’m so ready for this – I feel like I’ve been ready for this for years. I’m also very grateful, grateful for the opportunity to work with a Record Label and Producer, grateful to all my awesome friends, family and fans and grateful to people like Rivenmaster who has supported young artists for many years and given them the opportunity to showcase their talents in a safe and supportive environment.”

At just 15 years old Sam Verlinden has conquered obstacles in the music industry that others can only dream of. Whether it’s performing in front of thousands at Christmas in the Park, taking on a lead role in theatre performances, presenting TV segments or appearing on national television to showcase his talent, Sam has been there and done that – with an impressive fan base and performance schedule to match.

The Rarotongan Dutch Kiwi’s style blends together pop, soul and R&B and his musical influences include Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Chris Brown and the late Michael Jackson.

Sam’s love for singing started very young and over the years his talent has evolved into something else, with him being dubbed as New Zealand’s equivalent to Justin Bieber. Sam is mature minded and very motivated with his ultimate goal being to launch his career as a solo artist in NZ and expand internationally. Sam Santiago Featured on Maury’s Future Stars 2013

Ten year old Singing Sensation, Sam Santiago from Irvine California, was awarded with a series of claps, applauds, and jubilees throughout his rendition of Bruno Mars’ number one hit single, “When I Was Your Man”, on the popular Maury Povich Show last Tuesday, April 2nd.

An experience of a lifetime had fallen upon young Sam, as this 10 year old singing prodigy finally got a little taste of the big entertainment life he had been longing for.

Sam’s older brother, Penuel who supports his younger brother by creating all of Sam’s videos and doing his photography explained;

“Sam was ecstatic when he first heard about this amazing opportunity. The house was filled with a mixture of emotions, from joy to anxiety, as our parents worked through all the paperwork and deadlines, while the kids began to spread the exciting news to everyone. “

As the day for his trip to Maury’s Studio in Connecticut grew near, the anticipation mounted. But finally the day came, and Sam and the family were on their way. Their ride pulled up in front of their house to escort Sam and his family to the airport where the first leg of the journey would begin.

Sam was getting a little taste of celebrity life and loving every minute of it! The feeling of being out from school, on a plane, and in the spotlight was a dream come true.

Upon arrival in New York, Sam and his family were escorted to their hotel by another one of the Maury studio drivers. The luxury was something that they would love to get used to.

No time was wasted! Within hours upon arrival taping began and the spotlights were on.

Sam really enjoyed his time at the studio. Being able to meet the other performers, talk with the producers, and receiving the star treatment was exhilarating! Dancers and singers alike were gathered in the green room backstage. These were the future stars of tomorrow, who were chosen out of several thousand to showcase their talent to a National audience. What an honor!

Just before filming, Sam and the rest of the performers gathered around for a group prayer and soon after the cameras were ready.

All the performers were eager to get on stage and each and every one of them rocked the stage like pros! Not one of them seemed to be nervous or show a sign of stage fright. When all was said and done, Sam had a load of adrenaline pumping through his veins. But just as quickly as the excitement began, the reality of its conclusion was realized. The time of Sam’s departure and separation from his new, outrageously talented friends had come.

Although Sam met some amazing and influential people, Sam also felt like a role model as he spoke of his experience as a singer to his national audience.

“Singing is like breathing to me. I can’t live without it”, Sam said.

Off camera, Sam was asked to explain what he felt was required to become a successful singer, he replied;

“Be teachable, wise, hardworking and thankful to God”.

Their mini vacation didn’t go to any waste whatsoever. Just across the street from the hotel was a beautiful shopping center. The Santiago’s souvenir shopped until it was time to go back home. Once again their driver picked them up and they were off to the airport.

One would think that such a hectic trip and experience for young 10 year old would be exhausting. You would think you’d find Sam passed out on the plane back to LA. But Sam isn’t the normal run of the mill kind of guy. He may have a tiny frame, but within that outward shell is a powerful little dynamo, propelling a jaw dropping talent that never seems to run on empty.

All the way back to LA Sam dreamed but not in sleep. He dreamed of what would be next? Maury had opened an opportunity he had been waiting for. Sam was now ready for anything, his big shot and grand entrance to the profession that would make all his dreams become reality.

Continuous “what if” questions flowed from Sam’s lips; said his brother, “What if I become famous? What if I become real popular?”

Sawyer Fredericks from Stage Fright to Spot Light a Young Artists Journey

Soon to be 14 year old Sawyer Christopher Fredericks was born March 31, 1999 on a blue moon. He lived in Connecticut, first in Newtown, then in Roxbury, with his mother, father and two older brothers until 2007, when they moved to upstate NY and bought a small family farm.

Like many young talented musicians, Sawyer was singing before he could even speak, basically singing with perfect pitch. While his words I’m told were nonsensical (baby scat), there was no doubt that he had already found his vocal gift. Not only was his singing notable, but Sawyer was quick to pick up melodies that he heard and also began to create his own melodies.

While no one in his immediate family has ever pursued a career in music, there is certainly a great love for listening to and creating music.

Sawyer’s grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all show signs of being musically inclined or talented. Sawyer’s own unique talents have blossomed in an encouraging and rich musical environment. As he got a little older, he became self-conscious of his singing and would only sing in front of people in his immediate family, but no matter where he was or what he was doing; there was always a song in his heart and on his lips.

It wasn’t until he was 11 years old that he decided he might be ready to sing in front of others, and joined a local summer children’s choir. The director of the choir was local accomplished singer-songwriter Katy Cole who is also an elementary school music teacher. In addition to being enrolled in Katy’s choir, Sawyer began taking vocal lessons from her. Katy believes Sawyer is a musical prodigy of sorts, and the singing seems to come naturally. The only problem was Sawyer’s stage fright and shyness – he would sing so quietly, it was almost a whisper. To get him to relax, Katy allowed him to sing down the hall where he couldn’t be seen. After quite a while, Sawyer developed enough courage to show what he could do. Surprising everyone, Sawyer chose to perform a short solo during the choir recital.

That fall, Sawyer’s uncle Eddie taught him two chords on the guitar, and almost immediately, Sawyer began writing songs and continued taking both voice and guitar lessons with Katy. He joined Katy for a couple songs at some of her gigs, and allowed his parents to publish his first video of him singing an original “Doodle”- his name for his unfinished song ideas. After receiving so many wonderful comments on line, strong encouragement from Katy, family and friends, and applause at the gigs, Sawyer was finally convinced that he was actually pretty good. With his courage and confidence now strengthened, more songs and videos soon followed.

When Sawyer was 12, he played his first solo performance at a local open mic. He was near the end of the list of performers and he became more and more nervous while he listened, whispering to his Mom, “I’m the worst guitarist here.” She explained that he didn’t have to go up there, and just because some had more experience and skill, didn’t mean he had less to offer.

Sawyer sang his songs very quickly, and immediately packed up his guitar and ran to the car, while the audience cheered and approached his Mother asking about him. Tearing up, Sawyer exclaimed that he couldn’t even hear himself or the applause, and the whole thing was a blur. As rough as the experience was, it broke some kind of wall that was holding him back, and he began to play at open mics once a month, then once a week.

Since that experience everything as snowballed for Sawyer! He was invited to play at local charitable concerts. He has written even more original songs. The online feedback for his videos has been so encouraging that it has really bolstered his confidence in his abilities. This past summer, Sawyer performed over twenty paying gigs, mostly at local farmers markets. He recorded a demo CD of six original songs, called “Breaking Ice: A Demo Collection,” selling signed copies at markets and some on line.

He has been a featured guest artist on two local radio shows. Bruce Owens from Good Morning Hudson Valley recently showcased Sawyer on his radio program where he interviewed both Sawyer and his mother.

Sawyer also placed third in a local talent search competition and has been listed on the Fab Chart, an independent music chart in England more than any other artist in its history. To date Sawyer has written over 30 complete original songs, and countless “doodles.” He is currently saving money to record his first full length album for which many of his fans, friends, and family have donated to help in his effort.

Despite all this progress, Sawyer’s mom explained;

“Sawyer still battles with his nerves before each new show or event, and looks forward to being able to match his guitar skills to the music he hears in his head. While it has become easier for him to escape into the musical part of the performance on stage, it is still really hard for him to talk to the audience. In new environments and with new people, Sawyer can seem reserved, but given time to warm up, he is actually a high energy, smiling and cheerful boy. He is very empathetic and understanding of other people’s feelings, always noticing when someone is stressed or upset and finding ways to comfort them. This empathy shows itself in his songwriting- he often tells stories that are outside of his own experience, but somehow he connects with the emotions and conveys them in song.

One of his most powerful songs, “Out My Window”, was written in response to the many stories of bullying and teen suicides among gay and straight teens discussed in the news and on programs like Glee, last winter. Most anti-bullying songs focus on denouncing bullying and try to inspire those being bullied. Sawyer connected with the victims on a more intense emotional level, writing the song from the perspective of a bullied teen considering suicide. It was a very difficult song for me to hear him sing the first time, and though I knew the source of inspiration, I’m afraid I still subjected him to a rather unnecessary discussion about handling depression.”

Sawyer is currently unsigned, and lives a normal teenager’s life, spending the majority of his time at home with his family. He and his brothers are home-schooled using a learner-directed method known as unschooling, that allows them to follow their own individual passions and learn in ways that best suit their learning styles, strengths, and interests. In addition to his passion for music, he loves playing soccer, Xbox games, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, and the Magic the Gathering card game, as well as caring for the animals on the family farm and visits from friends and family.

Sawyer is definitely one to watch in the future. Listening to him perform live is a real treat, one that I personally am looking forward to someday. Until then, Sawyer can count on Rivenmaster’s place to support his music and help whenever possible. I’m convinced that this young man will go far in the music industry and all he needs is the right person at the right time to hear and discover just how talented he really is.

Sebastian Janoski Receives National Spotlight and Shot at Broadway

While it has been less than a year since Sebastian’s introduction to RivenMaster.com, it seems like a lifetime. Since Sebastian Janoski’s appearance on Americas Got Talent Season 7, his drive and determination to perform and have his music be heard by the masses has gotten even greater. He of course loves to regularly perform locally for coffee houses, public events, local playhouses….but his drive has taken his act to a National Stage as well.

He has had a performing schedule that would make the most seasoned professional envious! Almost immediately following the publication of his initial article, Sebastian had the honor of singing the National Anthem at an event for PA Governor Tom Corbett. Governor Corbett was noticeably blown away with the strength maturity of Sebastian’s big voice!

It has been a whirlwind ride ever since. Sebastian’s promotional efforts along with the strength and ever-growing following on his YouTube and other WebPages have gained him National Attention with Television shows such as ABC’s “The Katie Couric Show”. Sebastian was chosen to appear on the show for a special segment entitled “One To Watch”.

He was given the opportunity to sing for legendary music producer Clive Davis, American Idol Winner Jordin Sparks, and musical Icon Usher live on the show. While Usher was in the end not able to attend the performance, Sebastian did get to meet and speak to him backstage. “He was really great” says Sebastian, “He wished me luck in my career, and said he hopes to have the opportunity to see me again”. The other celebrities were able to give their reactions to Sebastian’s Performance of “one More Night” by Maroon 5.

Sebastian was also interviewed by Katie Couric about his singing career and it was obvious to the seasoned professionals as well as anyone who saw Sebastian perform that day that Sebastian has quite a future in entertainment.

Since Sebastian’s National appearance he has had quite busy schedule! Because of his superb performance, He was given the opportunity by Katie Couric and her producers to appear in The Broadway Hit Musical “Newsies”. But not just a cameo, and actual singing and dancing role in the March 12^th performance. He says of his experience in “Newsies”

“It was a dream of mine; I actually saw this play in this theater with these stars last summer….to be on stage with them now is just crazy!!”

Sebastian’s experience in Newsies was chronicled and will be highlighted in another future episode of the “Katie Couric Show”. As soon as the air date is known we will inform everyone.

Sebastian is currently in the studio recording his first single entitled “Big City” and preparing it for worldwide release. It is a song that expresses his passion for performing and desire to be on stage. When he wrote the lyrics a year ago, he had no idea his reference to the Newsies in the song would turn into reality!! He is recording in “Lanark Records” studios in Lancaster PA with producer Quentin Jones. Quentin is a protégé and student of the legendary rock producer Al Cooper. He has recorded with legends such as Charlie Gracie, Robert Gordon and Brian Setzer. Sebastian hopes the skills and natural sound that Quentin brings to his music will come through on the final product and looks forward to seeing the reaction by the public to his first professional recording. Everyone will be able to find the single soon on iTunes, Amazon and wherever music can be downloaded. Expect many more originals to be recorded and published in the coming months.

Sebastian is also working with the artist development team at Robert Anthony Entertainment Group which hales from Pittsburgh, PA as well as Nashville, TN, and is currently fielding offers for national tour spots, PR assistance, production and publishing.

Along with his National appearances, he has kept busy regionally as well. He was a performer in the 2000+ seat Broadway style venue American Music Theatre for their “Home for The Holidays” annual Christmas show that had a running of 3 months. He was also a Headlining performer in “The Walk for D.E.S”, a newly formed annual suicide prevention fundraiser held in Clipper magazine Stadium, Lancaster, PA.. He has many upcoming events which can be found on his facebook page, some of the highlights include a performance at the historical “Fulton Theatre” for the annual fundraising event “Fulton Follies” in May and a performance scheduled in the Annual “Launch Music Conference” in Lancaster PA in April.

He will also be a special guest at this year’s annual, critically acclaimed “Hoboken International Film Festival” in Middletown, New York this May. The festival was founded by award winning author and filmmaker Kenneth Del Vecchio. Mr. Del Vecchio took notice of Sebastian during his Katie Couric appearance and reached out to Sebastian through Facebook saying;

“Not only do you have an amazing and powerful voice, but a great and very likeable demeanor with definitive confidence. What a talent!”

While National attention can be overwhelming for some, Sebastian takes it in stride and sees this as a natural progression.

Dalton Cyr To Record With Legendary Producer Paul Fox in L.A.

One of the hottest upcoming teen singing stars on the scene, award winning singer/songwriter/ musician Dalton Cyr is headed for big things.

It’s only been seven months since Dalton released his debut 11-song LP album, “I’ll Be There”, but the 12 year old recording artist announced he’s already heading back into the recording studio.

Catching the attention of Paul Fox, who’s recognized as one of the most successful and creative producers in the music industry, Dalton will fly to L.A. and spend two weeks working with Paul Fox and recording new music this April.

Paul Fox has a vast number of production credits including REM, 10,000 Maniacs, Rod Stewart, Ziggy Marley, Phish, The Wallflowers, XTC, and many more. Known for searching for the “next big thing”, Fox was introduced to Cyr through one of Cyr’s managers, Beth Broday, one of the original MTV producers, in November 2012.

Dalton’s mom, Cindy Cyr, says,

“One of Dalton’s managers met Paul when he was on a speaking panel in Studio City, California.”

Dalton’s manager told Paul she had this 12 year old singer who was an incredible songwriter and a ‘real artist’ and asked if he’d take a look. The next thing we knew, Dalton was asked to record some ‘raw’ videos to send to Paul.”

Cindy says that Beth Broday then met with Fox where he told her he was very interested in working with Dalton and wanted to record some new songs.

Paul Fox says after doing a quick look he realized that Dalton,

“Was no flash in the pan, but something to watch carefully.”

After reviewing videos he says he discovered Dalton ”had written some great pop songs and ballads” and it was then that he realized that Dalton was something to keep an eye on for sure. Fox says both Dalton and his parents are “amazingly dedicated” and added “that’s what it takes these days.”

He continues,

“But, what really got me were and are, his songs.”

Fox who has already received several new songs from Dalton says,

“Already he has stepped up to a new level, and I can only imagine what it will be like, when we actually start working on more songs.”

Fox adds,

“I continue to watch this young man grow rapidly, ever so curious to see where this plane is going to land.”

A prolific songwriter, Dalton has submitted six songs in the past two weeks, even more impressive when you consider he is also rehearsing for performances he’ll be doing in France, taking vocal lessons, guitar lessons and attending school with a one hour commute each way. Not to mention doing multiple interviews and photo shoots for his growing media attention with TV, radio and various publications. In fact, Dalton is scheduled to do a radio interview tomorrow Friday, March 15, 2013 at 7:00 pm Eastern on Blogtalk Radio’s Jammin Jukebox Show.

Dalton is currently writing more songs to send to Fox prior to his arrival. Dalton says he likes to have a ratio of at least three songs written for every one song he records so that he and his producer can choose the best of the bunch to record.

Not only will Dalton be working with Fox, but he’ll have the opportunity of a lifetime working with a line-up of some of the best in the business to record his new singles (release date TBA.) While he was unable to release all the details, Dalton did say that he’ll get to record with drummer Josh Freese, repeatedly hailed as the “Bruce Lee of drums.” Freese is easily one of the top three if not the top drummer in the country, having recorded on 300 albums with artists ranging from Sting to Guns and Roses to Avril Lavigne to The Dixie Chicks.

But before he goes to L.A., Dalton has a packed schedule. He’ll travel to France to perform with LaVilla School of the Arts Choir. Doing four performances, he’ll perform in Caen and Paris. Dalton says he had hoped to do a solo performance and meet n greet with fans while there after being invited to perform at an art gallery in Paris, but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.

Upon his return from France and leading up to L.A., things won’t slow down for Cyr either as he has a packed performance schedule.

No stranger to performing, Dalton does approximately fifty 45 min to one hour live shows per year. Rather than a choreographed performance, Dalton “wows” crowds with high energy and exciting shows that he changes up every time. From leaping up on tables and ledges amidst the crowd to jumps and spins on stage, audiences are captivated by the passion and liveliness he puts into his concerts. A highlight of his performance is when he chooses a girl from the audience to come on stage where he sings to her.

On April 6^th, six days after his return from France, he’ll perform on the main stage at Riverside Arts Market, one of Jacksonville, Florida’s premier destinations which draws over 5000 people.

Next up he’ll open for award winning singer/songwriter/recording artist Colt Ford, whose newest album, “Declaration of Independence” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and landed on Billboard’s list of 2012 Top Country Albums. Cyr will perform on the main stage at the Clay County Fair in Green Cove Springs, Florida one hour prior to Ford on April 10^th.

On April 11^th, he’s scheduled to appear on NPR radio in the morning and that night will perform a one hour benefit concert on the impressive and breathtaking Clubhouse Lawn at TPC Sawgrass, the top ranked golf course in Florida and home of The Players Championship. The concert will benefit Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

While speaking about his benefit concert at TPC Sawgrass, Dalton says he wanted to do something to benefit Wolfson Children’s Hospital because the kids that are patients there have inspired him so much. He says, “When I hear what they have to face and what they’ve overcome, it makes any problem I think I have seem pretty small.” Dalton will provide a free concert and is asking for donations in lieu of selling tickets. He also plans to sell raffle tickets at the event, raffling off several high demand items including two items donated from Dalton himself: a dinner with Dalton for one lucky person and a private concert for another.

Dalton also regularly performs concerts to benefit charity. Last month alone, Dalton performed at Wolfson Children’s Hospital’s biggest event of the year. The event called One to Grow On has raised in excess of $1.5 million. He also did a telethon to raise money for Wolfson’s, did a concert to benefit the animals of the Humane Society, and performed at the 26.2 with Donna to end Breast Cancer, one of the largest breast cancer marathons in the U.S. drawing over 12,000 participants and 20,000 fans from all 50 states and 20 countries around the world.

Dalton’s concert schedule doesn’t sound as if it will slow down anytime soon either. Having already booked several dates for the summer, he will go on tour with plans to do a Summer Concert Series with Tyler Layne through Teen Nation, visiting states in the Northeastern United States. He says there are other things in the works some of which he can’t announce yet. But he did tell me that you can look for a new video game with his music. Music Monsters is due to release a video game with Dalton’s song “The Way It Should Be” this spring.

Luka – Eleven Year Old Creative Canadian Super Star

LUKA is an 11 year old Canadian boy with a powerful voice and magnetic personality who has a genuine passion for music and singing. However, it’s his creativity, coupled with indisputable heart and soul embedded into his music videos, that continues to attract more and more young fans and equally impress many adults. In fact some have started calling him a YouTube Sensation and even perhaps the next Justin Bieber.

Unlike some who have been called YouTube Sensations, Luka has earned that title. Luka has accomplished what many have only dreamed of doing. In less than two and a half years, he has amazingly accumulated over 2 Million views and boasts over 7 Thousand subscribers on his YouTube Channel.

Part of this success was accomplished simply by Luka just being himself. While some tubers are trying to impress with special effects or finding scenic locations to shoot their videos, Luka’s early videos were initially made by him, sometimes by only using a laptop or iPad camera and mic. Due to this, he quickly started gaining attention with his unadulterated talent, a distinguishing voice and by singing songs typically beyond his age.

His fans love him for just being natural, and admire his modesty, sweet personality, colorful voice and irresistible charm.

Luka’s parents shared with me that Luka showed an interest in music at a very young age. At the age of four, he was easily memorizing countless songs and dance moves from his favorite TV shows and readily showcasing them to his family and friends, using a coffee table as his improvised stage. In 2008, when Luka was 6 years old, the movie “Camp Rock” came out. After watching it countless times, he proclaimed he was going to be a singer and an actor when he grew up (actually, even before growing up). ”This is Me”, by Demi Lovato, from this movie, became his favorite song and inspiration to follow his dream. He cut out the word “Hollywood” from the construction paper, hung it up on his bedroom door, and started wishing for a real microphone and stage to be constructed in his room. His letters to Santa started being long lists of favorite CD’s and music movies. While he has explored a number of singers and music styles since then, Demi Lovato is still one of Luka’s favorite singers, due to her vocal range, passion in her songs, and for her message of always being strong and never giving up hope. Several other Disney celebrities have also inspired Luka around that age, too. At the age of 6 Luka started playing piano which helped him build a strong music foundation. The following year he started taking singing lessons and had his first official singing performance at the spring recital, performing nothing less than “My Life Would Suck Without You”, by Kelly Clarkson.

In 2010, he auditioned for a local musical theater production of “Oliver!” and had his theatrical debut as one of the orphans in November 2010. Performing in front of a 600 plus theater stage audience, was a thrilling experience and motivation for Luka to keep following his dream. After Oliver! he performed in several other musical productions, the most memorable of which was “Broadway Kids Live!” Luka was selected as one of the 13 kids to perform accompanied by a live orchestra, solo pieces from Oliver and An American Tale for the first time. The “Broadway Kids Live!” production had noticeable media coverage and Luka was interviewed on a couple of local TV stations.

Around that time, Luka also started singing in many local talent shows, open-mic events and charitable events, with considerable success and making it to the finals or even winning some of them, in spite of being often half the age (and height) of some of the other contestants.

In 2010, at just 8 years old, Luka started making videos of himself singing and posting them (with his parents’ permission), on YouTube. One of the first videos he posted was a cover of Selena Gomez’ hit song “A Year Without Rain”, made randomly with his friend as a duet. Styling with one red sock and one blue sock, with his barefoot little friend by his side, he captured the attention of Disney and ended up being featured in the Disney Dreaming Website.

In 2011, his cover of “Domino” by Jessie J, which he posted hoping to win her contest for the 1^st cover of this song, went viral, receiving over ONE MILLION VIEWS.

In 2012 he submitted a cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” hit, for her Starships video contest, and was chosen by her as one of the 5 winners of that contest! Nicki even tweeted Luka’s video to Perez Hilton and Ellen DeGeneres, saying she was in love with the little boy!

Luka’s cover was also featured on Perez Hilton website with the title “Amazing 10 Year Old KILLS Nicki Minaj’s Starships Cover Contest!”

He also caught the attention of Lena Dunham, the creator and star of the HCB hit series “Girls”, who tweeted two of Luka’s videos. Skyscraper & Starships

Luka always strives for new challenges and styles and never stops exploring new frontiers. He has recently started playing guitar and is starting to work on original songs. In fact, Luka just released his very first original song “Time To Shine”, which we are extremely proud to showcase here.

One thing that is easy to predict is that you have only seen the beginning of what Luka is getting ready to share with the world. I have a feeling that this is one more Canadian that is going to rise to the top and will be amazing us all for some time to come!

This has already been a banner year for young Canadian artists to grace the pages of Rivenmaster’s Place. However, each week we seem to find yet one more amazing musical talent to bring your way.

In 2006, “Brothers Dubé” was heralded as “Canada’s Youngest Rock Band”, whose band members at that time were only six, eight and ten years of age. Comprised of three brothers, the band has won a number of competitions and been presented with many awards. The boys are not only known for their extreme musical talent, but also for their humanitarianism. They were presented with the CAYFO Youth Spirit Award for their contribution to Arts and Culture, and were recipients of an award from United Way for raising over $100,000 for various charities and nonprofit organizations.

While greatly inspired by their father’s musical talent, the boys were also thrust together as a true “Band of Brothers” attempting to lift their ill mother’s spirits as she struggled with Cancer. The boys would post some of their mother’s favorite songs on YouTube hoping to bring some extra joy during this difficult time. However, after the loss of their mother, instead of feeling sorry for their own loss, they began to look at the hurt and pain that others in the world were enduring. Since the earthquake in Haiti was a major event at the time, they made it their mission to do something more than be an observers. They started a campaign to help raise funds for the House of Hope Orphanage and Grace Children’s Hospital in Haiti. To the joy of these Haitian children, the boys fund raising efforts far surpassed their original goal of $50,000.

Since then the boys have been working on their music performing around the globe and recently released their new CD entitled “ONE”, which is sure to produce record sales. The band really brings it in this compilation of songs and I highly recommend it to you.

While many articles have been written about these amazing young artists, it was my desire to bring them to you in a different and special way. I asked each of them to write a little about themselves so you could meet them not just as an inspiring musical rock band, but as individuals.

The following is unedited, just as I received it. These boys rock not only with their music but as people helping people, and I’m proud to introduce each of them to you!

Liam Dube

Liam Dubé: “I’m Liam Dubé, a 15 year old Canadian and the guitarist of Brothers Dubé. Like my brothers, I was born in Ottawa, Ontario. I was born May 10th, 1997. Ever since I could remember, music has been a big part of my life. My dad had a big hand in what all of us (my brothers) listen to growing up. If we were not cranking tunes in the car on the way to one of my hockey tournaments then we were in the kitchen hitting pots and pans and using hockey stick as air guitars pretending we were playing Wembley stadium.

I played hockey from the age of 4 or 5 to about 11. It is without a doubt my favorite sport to play and watch. I played competitive so the entire family revolved around my hockey schedule. Therefore my brothers could not do anything they wanted to do. I dropped out for a year in grade 5 so the family could go skiing instead, but then I started to pick up guitar and I never really went back to playing hockey in a league. I still play once and awhile on the outdoor rink but not as much as I’d like to.

Although I played competitive hockey through grade school my dad always had musical instruments lying around the house. We would pick them up and make random noises trying to play but we never really took any of it seriously. When I dropped out of hockey I had so much free time that I started taking lessons. Initially I wanted to play drums but Quinn picked up the sticks and you could tell he was a natural so I went and stole the guitar off Jan. I remember my dad teaching me simple chords up at the cottage, but I passed his level a couple of years later.

If I remember correctly the first time I performed was with Jan and some of my friends at the talent show in elementary school in grade 6. It went well, although I wasn’t the best guitar player considering I was only on year one of playing guitar. That was the only show I did with that band and after that we all stopped playing. .

The more we played the more my confidence grew. I never really got nervous though, I sometimes get anxious because I just want to get out there because I love being on stage.

I don’t do very much other than school and the band; I usually just do some homework, sometimes video games, play a bit of piano, and snowboard and skidoo during the winter. And I probably spend too much time on the Internet. I love eating; my favorites are Lebanese and Italian. While our family does not have television, I do occasionally watch Workaholics, Modern Family, Dexter and Family Guy.

People often ask me what I listen to and I can never point my finger to one play. Growing up, my dad exposed us to just about everything; from Frank Sinatra to Motörhead to Phish. My favorite bands are alternative and hard rock bands. It’s only recently where every individual in the family has started to like their own stuff. I love Big Wreck, Kings of Leon, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters. I mean the list is endless.”

Jan Dubé: “My name is Jan Connor Dubé and I’m 13 years old. I was born on January 13th, 1999 in Ottawa ON. I now attend Garneau French Catholique High School in 8th grade. I play bass and lead vocals in the Brothers Dubé.

I was surrounded by music my whole life, as far as I know, I was rocking out to Zeppelin and Floyd before I could walk! On my 7th birthday, my parents gave me my first guitar. I then started taking music seriously. The first song I ever learned on the guitar was “Keep on Rocking in the Free World” by Neil Young. While other kids are learning Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I was focusing on the greats and the classics.

On the singing side, I have been singing for a long time…well more like yelling the words to a song in any key I wanted. That was about 8 years ago. The first time I preformed in front of anyone was at a family gathering at my grandparent’s house.

I never really get nervous when it comes to performing; I guess I’m thankful for that considering the amount of times we have preformed.
I also play sports. I’m on the school basketball team and also track and field.

Whenever I have free time, I enjoy playing video games with my brothers. I also enjoy swimming in our lake at the cottage. The Cottage is my favorite place on earth; it’s an easy getaway from civilization and technology. It’s beside a little lake with no one in sight where I like to sit in a hammock and watch the sun set.”

Quinn Dubé

Quinn Dubé: “My name is Quinn Dubé and I am 12 years old and I am the drummer for the Brothers Dubé. I was born in Ottawa, Ontario on December 3rd in the year 2000. I go to Garneau high-school in Orleans, Ottawa. My favorite movie is Napoleon dynamite. My favorite meal is tacos with a big glass of iced Pepsi. My favorite TV show is workaholics and Dexter. My favorite book is the Power of Now. I love playing hockey on the outdoor rinks and at school and my favorite bands are King of Leon and Pink Floyd.

Our mother passed away of breast cancer in 2008. We cheered her up by posting music videos on YouTube. And then we took the band seriously. We played a lot of festivals like Bluesfest, Tulip Fest etc…

Quinn Dubé

The first time I sang a song in front of a crowd was when I was 8 years old. The first performance that I did was at a convention for breast cancer and my grandmother got the gig for us. The first time I played an instrument was 6 or 7 and I played the piano. I started playing the drums when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I took lessons for about 1 year. As I grew up I was getting better and now I am a good drummer recording our second album. I hope to keep doing this for many more years.”

The boys continue to set big goals as a band and hope to accomplish a number of things during the next couple of years. Their desire is to finish their second album, spread into other countries and play a North American tour. They also hope to make their own studio to record their original material.

As a very long-term goal the band hopes to perform at Wembley Stadium.

Brothers Dubé – I Kinda Like It – Official Video

When asked about their upcoming album and their continuation with their mission work they shared the following.

The New Album: “We have just finished recording 13 brand new songs. We are planning on releasing these songs in 2 EPs (extended play). They will consist of both Pop and Rock style tracks. We’re writing more and more and discovering what we really like. Surprisingly, we like acoustic more than we thought… and that we’ve got this lighter acoustic side as well as this hard and heavy side…
As far as writing goes, we’re also realizing that you don’t always have to write these amazingly deep and meaningful songs like some of the music that inspires us… you can write something simple, that’s in your head… that comes from different sounds… one of those songs is called “How”. We’ve also been exploring with keyboards and synthesizers to create a more electric and digital sounding song. This will be demonstrated in “Will’s Song”. The EPs have no date to be released but by following our social media, you will be kept updated.”

Our Mission Work: “Ever since the tragic Earthquake in Haiti, we have been raising funds for the cause. Over the past 3 years we have raised over 150,000$ for the orphans of the earthquake. We also traveled ourselves down to Haiti to see our funds in action. We filmed our path and then presented our work in schools around our community. We are proud of what we have done for Haiti and we will continue to invest our time in this project by performing in schools to get the message out.”

Judging from what I have witnessed and they have shown these boys will accomplish their dreams in short order. Regardless of whether you enjoy Rock Music you have to give these boys props for what they have already achieved. Brothers Dubé are not only an inspiration to other young people but to the adult world as well. They have shown what it is to be not only accomplished musicians, but as caring human beings who put other before themselves and their own accomplishments.

Nothing can stop this kind of attitude and zeal!
