Montreal is easily one of my favorite cities in North America. It has a chic, European flair, is a haven for foodies, and I loved soaking up the very distinct French-Canadian culture. Not to mention: it’s a very short plane ride away from the Northeast!

Travel Guide to Montreal — Best Time to Go

In the past, we’ve visited Montreal in October, and in my opinion, that was an incredible time to go. It wasn’t too cold (highs ranged between 50-60 F), and the fall foliage was at its peak. Montreal should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a cosmopolitan leaf-peeping trip this fall.

Suppose you’re a big fan of winter and can handle frigid temps. In that case, I’d plan on a winter trip: Montreal is magical during the holidays, and underground tunnels in town can get you to some of the most popular spots in the city. If you’re like me and aren’t Winter’s biggest fan, I’d visit between Mid-May to Mid-October. 

Travel Guide to Montreal — Culture: Language, Tipping, & The Canadian Dollar

The official language of Montreal is French, but you won’t have many issues if you’re an English speaker: over half of the population of Montreal is bilingual and can also speak English. However, I would still greet people in French (Bonjour, Bonsoir) and ask if they speak English before continuing your conversation, just to be polite. Also, most of the restaurants we visited had French and English menus. 

I would check the exchange rate for the Canadian Dollar before you go, but when we visited, the rate favored Americans. I took advantage of this and did quite a bit of shopping while I was there! 

Unlike in Europe, you do need to tip in Montreal for meals. You would tip in Canada just like in the United States: between 15-20%. 

 
Travel Guide to Montreal — Getting There & Getting Around

If you’re from the Northeast, getting to Montreal is an absolute breeze: dozens of nonstop flights from D.C. and New York area airports leave daily, and those flights are less than 2 hours. However, Montreal has a relatively large international airport, so you should easily be able to fly in from any destination.

 Just make sure to bring your passport: if you’re traveling by air, passport cards and U.S. driver’s licenses will not be accepted at an airport if you’re a United States citizen traveling to Canada.

Montreal has a pretty incredible Metro and bus system in town that will get you around to nearly every part of the city. There is also Uber in Montreal (but no Lyft, just FYI!), and every Uber driver we had spoke English, so we had zero issues communicating. There’s no reason to rent a car unless you want to explore more of Quebec!

Travel Guide to Montreal — Things to Do

• Visit the Museum of Fine Arts. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is the city’s largest museum, and with 140,000 square feet of exhibition space, you could spend an entire day in this incredible space. You can view works from all over the world, from all periods, and check out their main exhibit during your trip (we loved viewing the Alexander Calder: Radical Inventor exhibit during our visit!)
   
• Experience Old Port Montreal. There’s something for everyone at Old Port Montreal: take a ride on La Grande Roue de Montreal and soak up the best views of the city, go ziplining if you’re bold enough, head on a cruise, go ice skating — the possibilities are endless here! This is the one part of Montreal that I wish I had more time to explore.
   
• Stroll through Old Montreal. Old Montreal is one of my favorite spots in all of Montreal: the cobblestone streets and historic charm make me feel as if I’ve been transported to Europe. You’ll inevitably end up in Place Jacques Cartier, a huge square that’s a tad touristy but makes for great people-watching. We also took a quick stroll by the Notre Dame Basilica — a pretty great replica of the one we saw in Paris. Break for drinks at Hotel William Gray’s rooftop or coffee at Tommy Cafe. 
   
• Walk or Bike a Formula 1 Track. Did you know the Formula 1 track is a public park you can access year-round? The last time we went to Montreal, we walked Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at Parc Jean-Drapeau, and it was so cool to see the track up close — and honestly, mind-blowing to know that it isn’t a super wide road!
   
  Aside from walking the track, you can go cycling, have a picnic, play sports, explore the gardens, go on tours, and even do maple syrup tastings at this park. It’s a great place to spend an afternoon! 
   
• Sample local produce at the Jean-Talon Market. If you want to enjoy local cuisine, stop by the Jean Talon Market in Little Italy. They’re open daily and have dozens of produce stands and small restaurants to try. Admittedly, you might need to speak a little bit of French to get around the market &mdash if your French isn’t the best, try to greet vendors with a “bonjour,” and politely ask if they can speak English. Don’t let this deter you, though — this market is a must-visit if you’re a foodie!

I know I overloaded you with the food photos for this guide — but the food in Montreal is impressive. I had some of the best meals of my life in Montreal, and I cannot wait to eat through this city on my next visit!

A pro tip: download the app DINR to search for same-day reservations at the best restaurants in Montreal. Thanks to this app, we snagged reservations at really tough to get into spots!

Breakfast & Brunch

• Tommy: A super cute, Instagrammable cafe that has two locations in Montreal (and serves a great cup of coffee).
    
• Ibéricos: This Spanish restaurant just recently started its brunch service and did not disappoint. For only $20, you can get a 2-course meal with either a cheese and charcuterie plate or an entree. Since their brunch is still super new, their menu isn’t up on their website — but this Eater article shares a few more details about their new brunch! 
    
• Foiegwa: Really, any meal is fantastic here, but Foiegwa is known for their brunch. You can add foie gras to pretty much anything on their menu — and if your server recommends it, I would go for it. I love the selection of sweet and savory dishes on their brunch menu, and the scallops with foie gras on their dinner menu were one of the best meals I had in town.

Lunch & Dinner:

• Lawrence: Lawrence recently renovated their space in the last few years, and the result is incredible: it was one of the chicest, most sophisticated spots I visited in Montreal. If you’re hunting for one of the best burgers in the city, Lawrence is your spot. 
     
• Emilia Cantine Portugaise: Cantine Emilia is a casual Portuguese Grill that serves up some of the city’s most innovative fusion dishes. If you’re a fan of poutine, you won’t want to miss Emilia’s take on the dish: they offer three unique versions, each featuring their special ‘Emilia Poutine Sauce.’
   
• Maggie Oakes: If you’re enjoying an afternoon in Old Montreal, stop by Maggie Oakes for a delicious lunch. Here, you can enjoy incredible steaks, vegetarian dishes, and wines. The location is unbeatable, and the wine list is divine.  We enjoyed ourselves here! It’s pretty easy to walk in for lunch, but I would make a reservation for brunch or dinner.
   
• Joe Beef: This restaurant was named one of the best restaurants in the world, and I couldn’t agree with the critics more: I had one of the best meals of my entire life at Joe Beef (Real talk: I shed a tear while eating the veal plate). The menu at Joe Beef changes daily, but they have one staple that you can order at any time: the lobster spaghetti (it’s a must!) It is tough to get a reservation here, but we snagged a last-minute spot with the DINR app! 
    
• Au Pied de Cochon: Au Pied de Cochon offers innovative takes on rustic cuisine and has consistently been named one of the best restaurants in Canada for years. I was mind-blown by the presentation of some of the dishes: for the cavatelli, a server comes with a giant cheese bowl and will mix the pasta, cheese, and sauce right in front of you. They paired cured ham with pancakes and maple syrup, an unexpected yet delicious combo. I could go on, but this article is already getting pretty lengthy — try your best to snag a reservation here; you will not regret it!
    
• Pullman: Pullman was one of Montreal’s very first wine bars, and they offer a fantastic selection of small plates and an extensive wine list. Dinner here was a little more intimate and cozy, and IMO, this is the perfect spot for date night.

Travel Guide to Montreal — Nightlife

• Bar Cloakroom: Bar Cloakroom is a cozy speakeasy that seats 25 people and exclusively serves dealers’ choice-style beverages. Depending on when you go, there might be a bit of a line, but trust me: it is worth the wait. I can easily say this is one of the best bars I’ve ever visited!
   
• Brasserie Harricana: This chic, upscale brewery offers an incredible selection of craft beer and comfort eats. Great for a more casual night out!
   
• Atwater Cocktail Club: This back-alley bar serves specialty cocktails and snacks. It has a great ambiance, and we were blown away by the presentation (get the Smoke Show, you won’t be disappointed!) You can also order snacks from the attached restaurant, Foiegwa, at the bar. 
   
• Dieu du Ciel!: Dieu Du Ciel is a craft brewery that isn’t afraid to experiment with bold flavors. We loved that they incorporated unique ingredients (their hibiscus beer was my favorite!), and we thought the staff was amiable and knowledgeable. Dieu du Ciel! had an incredible vibe, and we cannot wait for our next visit.
   
• Hotel William Gray Rooftop: This bar is only open seasonally, but we made it in before the season closed and got to experience one of the best views of Montreal. They also offer their full menu at the rooftop bar so that you can order brunch/dinner/etc. In addition to drinks.
   
• Cold Room: Looking for another speakeasy? Cold Room serves up gourmet cocktails in a cozy environment. This would be a great bar to visit for a date night or with a small group. No reservations — this spot is first come, first serve. 
   
• MARCUS Lounge: While this is a full-service restaurant, I enjoyed MARCUS for its beverage program! This is a chic, upscale bar located in the Four Seasons, and at night,  the focal point becomes the dark and luxurious Nightbar. This is a great place to be social and let loose!

Sezane has become one of fashion’s most beloved brands over the past few years. They’re a chic, modern French label that offers timeless staples and sustainable statement pieces.

As an American, I know ordering from foreign brands can always feel a little uneasy. You might ask yourself: is this brand legit? What is the quality like? Will I get my money back if something doesn’t work out?

I’ve been shopping at Sezane for a few years now, and I find their pieces to be absolutely incredible. Full disclaimer: Sezane has offered me a gift card to purchase some of these items, but I’ve also happily made purchases with my own money. It has become one of the core brands in my closet.

So, is Sezane worth it? Here’s why I think so — here’s my honest opinion of the Parisian brand.

Sezane: About the Brand & Sizing

Sezane is a buzzed-about Parisian brand that just celebrated its 10th anniversary. The brand states on its website that they are inspired by Paris and the people living in it — and if you’ve ever been to Paris, you know that the locals dress incredibly chic. As a francophile myself, I was immediately drawn to the brand.

If you’re shopping at Sezane, you’re also supporting a fantastic cause as well. The brand has raised more than 5 million euros for DEMAIN, an endowment fund created in 2018 that is committed to helping children access culture, education, and equal opportunities. 

They don’t have many stores, but you can visit their “apartments” in Paris, Bordeaux, Aix-en-Provence, and Lille in France, and also in London, San Francisco, and New York. They often do pop-ups in other cities around the world, so I would follow them to see if they pop in in your neck of the woods — I’m always crossing my fingers that they’ll do a pop-up in Los Angeles one of these days! 

Don’t worry: you can always order online if you don’t live near a store; they ship to several different countries.

Fit Notes: Sezane runs pretty true to size, and I haven’t had to make too many returns or exchanges over the past few years. I’m wearing a size 10 in pretty much everything pictured here, for reference!

Sezane: Sustainability

I’m still learning about sustainable fashion, and I do not claim to be an expert in the matter. However, I am making a conscious effort to try to add more sustainable pieces to my wardrobe.

Sezane is B Corp certified, and it’s clear that they have sustainable goals and commitments for the future. For materials, they often use organic cotton, certified materials, recycled polyester, and vegetable-tanned leather for the majority of their collections.

Not to mention: all of Sezane’s shipping boxes are made from recycled cardboard and/or are derived from sustainably-managed forests, and 100% of their locations are powered by renewable energy.

Sezane: Orders & The Return & Exchange Process

With Sezane, your orders are shipped from France. However, if you’re getting the products shipped to America, the shipping process is insanely fast — I normally receive my order 3-4 business days after placing it, and I’m on the West Coast. For some of you East Coast folks, the shipping might be even faster. By the way — I only use standard shipping; I’m not familiar with how fast their express shipping is!

The only con I have for Sezane is their return process. I haven’t had to return many orders, but the process can get lengthy. The good news? Returns are free, and they are sent to a processing center in New Jersey, so you don’t have to wait for your package to get to France. The bad news? It usually takes 2-3 weeks after Sezane receives the order to get your money back. I had to follow up a couple of times on my return to receive the refund the last time I made a return, but I got it after 3 weeks.

So, if you do need to make a return, just make sure you’re diligent with following up. Otherwise, I wouldn’t consider this to be a dealbreaker for me.

Sezane: Tips & Tricks for Shopping

New collections drop on Sezane’s website every Sunday and Wednesday. Sezane doesn’t mass produce items and collection items are available in limited quantities, so I would check every morning on release days to see if you like anything!

What I love about Sezane is that they restock their essentials throughout the year. For example, the Scott Trench Coat that I love? Last year when I purchased it, I couldn’t find it in stock in January, but it finally popped back up again in March. If there’s a staple that you love that’s not available in your size, set an alert! It will likely come back in stock at a later date.

Hi! Apologies for the random, month-long blog hiatus. I missed writing here. I’ve been dealing with some health issues, but have been working on getting them resolved, so I can stop neglecting the website I launched nearly 12 years ago. I’m hoping that April will be a month of consistency, and I thank you for sticking around and reading!

I’m not going to lie: I have been invited to a total of zero weddings this spring. Thankful for my wallet, but sad for my social life.

But – wedding season is upon us, and I know a lot of you have friends who are getting hitched this year. If you’re looking for the perfect spring wedding guest outfit, I’ve got some ideas for you!

Dress: ℅ Hutch (Sold Out, but love this option!)

One brand that I’ve been loving for special occasion dresses is Hutch. I love how fun, colorful and flattering their dresses are — I own a few of them, and I always feel like a million bucks in them. I find them to run pretty true to size or sometimes a tad large, so I’d either go with your normal size or size down if in-between sizes. For this dress with the corset style, I opted for my true size, but I often have to go down a size in their other cuts without corsets or defined bustlines.

I’ve found so many fun, playful styles that would work well for weddings this year, and I’ve rounded up some of my favorites in this collage below!

When planning your spring wedding guest outfit, you’ll want to make sure you find something both stylish and appropriate for the occasion. A breezy flowy dress in cheerful pastels is an easy way to channel the season’s natural flair. Floral patterns are also perfect for any outdoor garden weddings. Fitted midi dresses with vivid hues will look great for any semi-formal daytime ceremony.

For a more formal affair, opt for a stylish yet timeless gown in a sleek silhouette. I adore this Dress the Population gown – it comes in multiple colors, and will definitely turn heads. So don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with colors and textures – you never know what look will make you feel like the best version of yourself!

So, a really big football game is happening on February 12th…have you heard of it?

Admittedly, I’m no football expert, but every Super Bowl, the snack spread is the MVP in my book. While I’m sad that I’m not going to watch the big game with friends this year, I’m excited to start our own watch party traditions at home and share my favorite football party ideas with you!

Normally, I go to a friend’s house and bring chips and guac, but this year, I decided to challenge myself and try out some recipes that I found on Pinterest. I wanted to aim for a more elevated football party this year — the kind of party you’d expect your rich auntie to throw. Here are some recipes that we tried that are easy to make, and a few tweaks we did at home to make them our own!

Elevated Football Party Ideas

Recipe 1: Bacon-Wrapped Potato Bites with Spicy Sour Cream Dipping Sauce

Ok, guys…this recipe SLAPS, to say the least. Not healthy in the slightest, but very delicious.

The spicy, sour cream dipping sauce is what takes this to the next level. Just mix sour cream and your favorite hot sauce, and your mind will be blown. To make this dish a bit more elevated and rich auntie approved, we added some chopped rosemary to the dipping sauce and the serving tray for garnish.

Recipe 2: Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Footballs

These chocolate-dipped strawberry footballs were super easy to make, but they also look very impressive. Minimal effort, maximum level of fancy. I was surprised at how easy it was to decorate these; I’m definitely no artist, but it’s hard to mess these up!

I also like that this dish is pretty vegetarian-friendly, so if you or a friend doesn’t eat meat, this is a dish they’ll be able to enjoy! All you need to do here is dip your strawberries in chocolate candy coating and pipe on a few laces with white decorating icing. Recipe 3: Baked Ricotta Dip with Figs and Pistachios

Out of all the dishes we tried, this one was probably my favorite. And definitely, the most bougie thing you could serve at a football party, but I’m 100% here for it!

I love that this appetizer also pairs well with a nice glass of Pinot Noir or Reisling. Because, let’s be honest: rich aunties might drink a beer at a football party, but they’re really craving a glass of vino. Give the rich aunties what they want!

Can you believe that January is almost over, and we’ll be heading into February next week? I don’t know about you, but I still haven’t entirely managed to stop myself from writing “2022” on files and documents. This year is flying by!

That being said — the next big holiday, Valentine’s Day, has crept up on us and is only a couple of weeks away (how crazy is it to say that?) If you haven’t snagged a Valentine’s Day gift, now would be a great time to place an order for one. These next few weeks, you’ll want to pick up your wine, style your bar cart, and find the perfect outfit to celebrate the big Day.

Admittedly, we’re still unsure what we want to do for Valentine’s Day this year. Do we have a chill night in? Do we head to a museum for a day date? Or do we go all out for a nice dinner in town? If you’re not so much into dresses, a cute crop top and jeans would also be a great day date outfit idea. Abercrombie and Urban Outfitters have a great selection of budget-friendly crop tops that would be perfect for a casual outing.

Valentine’s Day Outfit for Her #2: Dress With White Boots

I love a good midi dress and boot combo. LA has been pretty “chilly” as of late, and when I say “chilly,” it’s been in the 50s/60s, so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. /sarcasm

I kid, I kid, but most folks living in the Northern Hemisphere will likely need to layer up for warmth. I love the Analeah Boot by Schutz because it has a slightly western feel and is sleek and chic!

As for the dress: Reformation is definitely an investment, but I love their pieces because they’re timeless and really don’t go out of style. I always get compliments whenever I wear Ref pieces, and I also feel amazing in their dresses. I bought this dress last year, but I also adore their knit sweater dress for a date night for a bit of extra warmth.

Valentine’s Day Outfit for Her #3: Keeping Cozy with a Lounge Set

Are you staying in this Valentine’s Day? Honestly, we might do the same this year! Valentine’s Day is two weeks before my birthday. I’ve always felt guilty making my significant other drop money on Valentine’s Day and birthday gifts in such a short period, so I usually suggest staying home and having a cozy night in.

I picked up this cozy heart lounge set from Lou & Grey a couple of years ago, and they also have a super similar set available for sale this year. Lou & Grey lounge sets are super comfortable and of incredible quality — make sure to wash them on the gentle cycle and let them air dry so they can retain their softness. Their lounge sets are also fantastic to wear year-round.

Valentine’s Day Outfit for Her #4: Stay in Bed with Festive PJs

I’m not sure why, but my heart-print pajama collection grew over quarantine back in 2020/2021, and I’m not mad about it! I love the idea of a cute, themed PJ set, and Soma makes some of my favorite pajamas on the planet. Their Cool Nights line is super cozy and comfortable, and these pajamas have cooling technology that help me from getting too hot at night while sleeping.

Soma usually comes out with some version of heart print PJs every year, and I need someone to convince me I don’t need this year’s version. Because I have several versions of these that have held up very well over the years, and I don’t need a replacement, and I just want one. 

Other heart print PJs on my radar this year include this set from LOFT (top and bottom) and this luxe satin set by Victoria’s Secret. How cute would these be for a fun Galentine’s night party?

Valentine’s Day Outfit for Her #5: Go All Out for a Romantic Dinner

I like to buy holiday dresses that are red or pink because then I can easily repurpose them for a Valentine’s Day date night. I’ve unintentionally done this over the past few years, but I need to start making this more of a conscious habit!

This dress was a part of the Farm Rio 2022 Holiday Collection, and I wore it to my partner’s holiday party. But it also happens to work perfectly for Valentine’s Day. If my partner and I end up going out for a romantic dinner, this is 100% the dress that I’ll wear.

Unfortunately, this dress sold out last fall at lightning speed, but I love this heart-print Sister Jane dress. If you want a dress that’s a little more low-key, I’d recommend these chic and sophisticated options from Revolve and Nordstrom.

I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a hotel opening, but the Conrad Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles was easily one of the best new hotels I visited in 2022.

From the Jose Andres restaurants to the stunning design, the new Conrad Hotel is a welcome new addition to our neighborhood. I had the fantastic opportunity to do a little staycation over the summer, and I’ve been back a few times to visit the spa and restaurants on-site over the past few months, and it’s one of my favorite hotels in all of Los Angeles.

Conrad Los Angeles Hotel Review

The Conrad Hotel Los Angeles is one of the newest luxury hotels In the area, located in Downtown Los Angeles. The design of this hotel is breathtaking — it was designed by famed architect Frank Gehry, who also dreamed up the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is located right across the street from the Conrad.

What I love about the Conrad Hotels brand is that they offer the ultimate modern luxury experience — from the dining to the wellness programs and the incredible design and architecture; staying at a Conrad is always luxe and memorable.

Location

What I love most about this hotel is the location. The Conrad is located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, within walking distance of attractions like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Broad, The Last Bookstore, and much more. You’re also a quick Uber ride away from the Arts District, which has some of my favorite restaurants in the city.

The Conrad is located in a mixed-use development, The Grand LA, and below the hotel, there are some other retail spaces and shops that you can enjoy as well.

The Food & Beverage Program

I’ll get into more of the hotel’s dining options later in this post, but acclaimed chef Jose Andres curated the food and beverage program, which is phenomenal. So much so that my partner and I have gone back multiple times for dinner and drinks.

Check-In And Lobby

One feature that I love at the Conrad is its 10th-floor lobby. Here, you’ll enjoy incredible views at check-in and even at the lobby bar as well.

Entering the hotel was a bit confusing for us at first, but we quickly figured it out — even though our GPS failed us! The entrance to the hotel is on 1st street, between Grand Avenue and Olive Street. You can valet your car, head up to the 10th floor, and get situated here. 

I honestly could have spent hours in the lobby — there was plenty of seating here, great areas for coworking, and you can also soak up beautiful views of the Walt Disney Concert Hall across the street.

Rooms And Suites

Standard Rooms

For our stay, we opted for a Premium View One King Bed and found it very spacious and luxurious. We got a great view of the Walt Disney Concert Hall right outside our window, but surprisingly, we found the room pretty quiet despite being in the middle of downtown.

The beds were very comfortable, the design was modern and chic, and it was the perfect place to rest and recharge.

Suites

During our stay, we had the opportunity to tour the Presidential Suite, and if you’re looking to indulge a little, this could be a fantastic option for you. Some standout features of this suite include the large terrace that overlooks the city, the huge soaking tub, and the dining and living areas that make this space perfect for entertaining. 

Dining

The Beaudry Room

This isn’t your average lobby bar — The Beaudry Room is a fantastic cocktail bar and restaurant that offers tapas, sandwiches, and a few classic entrees. The steak frites and the avocado sandwich were highlights for me; the food here was well done, yet the atmosphere was a bit more casual and approachable.

Agua Viva

If you’ve seen an Instagram photo of the Conrad Hotel Los Angeles, you probably saw this stunning outdoor concept. Agua Viva serves seafood and tapas-style dishes in a beautiful, open-air restaurant. Get the nori handrolls and piña borracha; you won’t be disappointed!

San Laurel

We got to try San Laurel for breakfast, but we’re itching to try their acclaimed dinner menu. Ambience-wise, this dining room is striking — here, you can enjoy great views of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and breathtaking dining space. The menu was inspired by classic Spanish dishes but uses fresh, local California produce and ingredients. For breakfast, the tortilla el camino and toast montaditos were standouts. 

In-Room Dining

My favorite part about the Conrad Los Angeles? You can enjoy food from Jose Andres’ dining concepts in your own room! We took advantage of the in-room dining on a slow morning for breakfast, which was one of the most memorable in-room dining experiences I’ve had. Even though there’s a lot to explore in LA, it was a luxurious way to enjoy the hotel room for a bit longer before checking out.

Spa

If you’re looking for a spa in Downtown Los Angeles, look no further. I loved my spa experience so much during my staycation last summer that my partner and I have booked treatments as locals a few times since that stay.

One standout feature of the spa for me is the unique recovery cabins. I like to add this to a massage or facial, but a recovery cabin experience includes high-tech wellness therapies, and here, you can customize your wellness experience.

The Conrad offers other unique spa experiences, including Rose Quartz facials, jet peels, LED light therapy, and more, in addition to the more traditional menu of spa services.

The Pool Deck

The Conrad Hotel Los Angeles has a heated rooftop pool to enjoy the best city views. I’d highly recommend renting a cabana and enjoying the excellent food options from Airlight on a beautiful afternoon. The pool is only open to guests for now, so it wasn’t super crowded. However, as a local, I’d buy a day pass if that ever became an option in the near future!

Fitness Center

If you’re into wellness, this is the hotel for you. The Conrad Los Angeles also has a fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment.

My Conrad Los Angeles Hotel Experience

The Conrad Hotel Los Angeles was indeed one of the most stunning urban hotels I’ve ever stayed at. And as a local, I love that I can keep coming back for one of Jose Andres’ incredible dining concepts or indulge at the spa. The service was top-notch here, the staff was incredibly attentive and kind. And it was a fantastic, modern luxury experience. 

I will be candid and say that the rates for this hotel can run a little high when there is a special event in town, so keep that in mind while booking. Overall, I’d highly recommend the Conrad if you’re looking for an exceptional, high-end hotel experience in Los Angeles.

As much as I love a good overseas wine vacation, some of the best wine-tasting experiences I’ve ever had have been right here, in the U.S.

If you’re a wine lover looking for a world-class destination to visit and explore local wines, the United States is an excellent choice. With achingly beautiful landscapes ranging from the sun-soaked slopes of Napa Valley to the lush vineyards of Virginia stretching far into the distance, there are dozens of world-class tasting rooms offering incredible experiences for any wine enthusiast.

Whether you’re looking for world-renowned varietals or unique small-batch wines perfect for a special occasion, you can find them all in outstanding quality in U.S. vineyards. Couple this with countless attractions catering to wine tourists, and it is no wonder why more and more wine lovers visit the United States each year.

Today, I am sharing a round-up of the best US wine vacations you should consider for 2023 and beyond.

P.S. — as much as I love Napa, if you’re reading this article, I’m sure you’re very well aware of this destination. In today’s post, I aim to share some regions that may not have been on your radar!

Ten Best US Wine Vacations

Paso Robles

Paso Robles is one of my favorite regions to go wine tasting in California. Located in Central California, its climate makes it ideal for grape growing: it has hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This region is home to more than 200 wineries, and you can enjoy more than 60 varietals here. 

Several types of varietals are grown here, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, and Chardonnay thrive in this region. Some of my favorite vineyards to check out in this region include Law Estate (reservation required), Linne Calado, and L’Aventure Winery.

Paso Robles is about 3 hours north of Los Angeles and 3 hours south of San Francisco. If you’re flying, the San Louis Obispo airport would be the closest, but you can also opt for the San Jose and San Francisco airports and drive down.

Best Time to Visit: Spring and Autumn — but I wouldn’t completely rule out the off-season. Summers tend to get very hot (100+ degrees), but you can enjoy indoor tasting rooms with A.C. Winters are cool and wet but doable.

Walla Walla

I recently had the opportunity to visit Walla Walla for the first time last fall, and let me tell you: I was blown away by the selection and the quality of wine here.

Walla Walla is home to more than 120 wineries, and you can find many different varietals grown here — though they’re known for their Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. 

Walla Walla is located in the Southeastern part of Washington State. You can view my complete travel guide for more Walla Walla recommendations and detailed info here.

Best Time to Visit: May-October is recommended. Off-season, you might encounter rain and snow.

Texas Hill Country

We’ve visited Texas Hill Country many times over the past five years, and it’s exciting to see this up-and-coming wine region grow and flourish.

If you’re visiting Austin or San Antonio in the near future, take a day to explore all Texas Hill Country offers. Italian varietals thrive in this climate, but you can find almost any wine you fancy here.

Best Time to Visit: Spring and Autumn. Unless you can handle the Texas heat in the summer!

Charlottesville

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that Charlottesville, Virginia has a special place in my heart. It’s where I learned to love and appreciate wine, and I loved that I could go wine tasting in a laid-back environment and learn so much about wine through tours and tastings.

You can find many different varietals here, but the region is known for Viognier and Cabernet Franc. French varietals thrive in this somewhat unpredictable climate.

Best Time to Visit: April-November. Summers get humid & hot but are doable! Avoid the University of Virginia’s graduation weekend if you can — hotels and rentals will be booked solid.

Sonoma

Sonoma is an incredible region with incredible dining options, great wine, and picturesque views. In my opinion, it’s a bit more relaxed and approachable than Napa, which is why I adore it. 

The varietals you’ll typically find in Sonoma are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Syrah.

One region that I adore in Sonoma is the Dry Creek Valley. You can learn more about this area in my travel guide.

Best Time to Visit: May-October, though you can find some incredible hotel deals and enjoy less crowded tasting rooms in the off-season.

Livermore Valley

Did you know that the Livermore Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in the U.S.? Before Prohibition, it was a thriving viticultural area producing some of the best wines in the world.

Today, the Livermore Valley is the only wine region in the Bay Area that you can access via the BART train, making it a great option if you’re visiting San Francisco. This area is known for its premium wines, and the varietals you can find here include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and more.

Best Time to Visit: May-October

Willamette Valley

Willamette Valley needs to be on your list if you’re a Pinot Noir lover. Located in Oregon, this region remarkably has over 700 wineries and is regarded as the premier Pinot Noir producing areas in the world. 

Admittedly, I haven’t visited this region just yet, but it is on my list for 2023. I can’t wait to report back and share more of my thoughts!

Best Time to Visit: May-October. September & October if you’re hoping to go leaf-peeping.

Santa Ynez Valley

The Santa Ynez Valley is one of the most breathtaking wine regions I’ve ever visited. Located right outside Santa Barbara in California, you can enjoy varietals like Pinot Noir Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Roussanne, and Viognier in this acclaimed region.

As far as climate goes, it’s pretty ideal here — the hottest months are July-September, where you can find temperatures spike to the 90s, but in the winter, it still reaches the high 60s in the day. You might see rain in December & January, but really, you can enjoy the Santa Ynez Valley at any point in the year.

My favorite wineries in this region include Presqu’ile Winery, Zaca Mesa Winery, Alma Rosa Winery, and Dierberg Vineyard.

Best Time to Visit: February-November. Really, almost any time of year, but be cautious during the rainy season, as the area is prone to mudslides.

Finger Lakes

The Finger Lakes has been on my list for years now, and I’m finally going to cross this off in 2023. While I haven’t visited just yet, I’m happy to report back after I make it happen!

The Finger Lakes are located in upstate New York and is home to over 140 wineries. Most of these wineries are near the Cayuga, Keuka, and Seneca Lakes. You can also enjoy breathtaking hikes and world-class dining in this region.

Regarding varietals, you’ll typically find Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc in this region. However, this will be your go-to region if you’re looking for aromatic white wines.

Best Time to Visit: Memorial Day-Labor Day.

North & Central Arizona Wine Country

One wine region that was a pleasant surprise? Arizona. Before visiting Sedona, we stopped by the Verde Valley for wine tasting and were incredibly impressed.

You might not believe me, but technically a celebrity-owned wine label was the highlight of our trip. Caduceus Cellars is owned by the lead singer of Tool, who happens to come from a family of winemakers. And let me tell you: this was one of the best U.S. bottles of wine I’ve ever had. I cannot wait for my next visit!

Some other wineries to visit in this area include Four Eight Wineworks, Cabal Cellars, and Burning Tree Cellars.

Best Time to Visit: October-November, March-May. Summers can get hot here, but you can enjoy smaller crowds if you can handle the heat!

Honestly, my favorite part about February is the Valentine’s Day wine. It doesn’t matter if I’m single or taken, there’s one thing that’s a certainty: I’m popping open a nice bottle of vino!

Whether you’re celebrating with a loved one or partaking in Galentine’s Day festivities this year, this holiday is ideal for the wine lover. Plus, we’ve all had a long year, and it’s the perfect opportunity to treat ourselves! Today, I’m sharing my top five wine picks for Valentine’s Day!

Top 5 Valentine’s Day Wine Options

Valentine’s Day Wine Pick #1: Champagne

Ok, but how often do you drink actual champagne? I’m not talking about sparkling wine, prosecco, or cava — I mean the real deal champagne?

Valentine’s Day is a special occasion, after all, and I recommend you use this opportunity to break out a bottle of the good stuff. I have a couple of recommendations for champagne: the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rosé 2008 Champagne and the Taittinger Brut La Francaise. Both of these wines are matured to perfection and have a perfect balance.

You can open a bottle of champagne to kick off your festivities early in the evening. Drink it on its own, or pair these wines with a triple-creme cheese, shellfish, or anything with mushroom. Heck, champagne even tastes amazing with popcorn, to be honest, if it’s that type of Valentine’s Day. No judgment here!

Valentine’s Day Pick #2: Sparkling Wine from the USA

If you’ve got champagne taste on a beer budget, never fear: there are plenty of sparkling wines that are produced in the U.S. that taste heavenly!

So, you see where I suggested Tattinger champagne in the section above? Well, they also have a vineyard in California, and they produce sparkling wine under the name Domaine Carneros. It technically can’t be called champagne because it’s produced in California, but man: it tastes like the real deal. Plus, you can get a bottle of it for $25-30 at the grocery store, which is less than half of what a bottle of Tattinger would cost.

Another sparkling wine that I’m a huge fan of is the Thibaut-Janisson – Blanc de Chardonnay. This wine is produced in good ol’ Virginia, and I try to bring all of my wine-loving friends in other states a bottle of this whenever I travel. Fun fact: this wine was served at the White House at state dinners. This sparkling wine is perfectly balanced, crisp and refreshing, and is one of our favorites!

Valentine’s Day Pick #3: White Wine from South Africa

One country that should definitely be on your radar right now is South Africa.

I hoped to plan a trip to South Africa in 2021, but those hopes quickly diminished once COVID-19 spread like wildfire and caused shutdowns across the globe.

In 2021, South Africa temporarily banned all alcohol sales to help flatten the curve (source). They were unable to sell wine products domestically or internationally for a period of time, which did hurt some wineries. 

The next time you see a South African wine in the grocery store, give it a try and help support their vineyards. Some popular varietals from South Africa include Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Shiraz/Syrah, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. 

Valentine’s Day Pick #4: A Montepulciano or Chianti Classico from Italy

Ok, let’s talk about something equally as important: what you’re going to eat on Valentine’s Day.

If you’re planning on enjoying beef for dinner, I highly recommend picking up a bottle of Montepulciano or Chianti Classico to pair with your dish. One of my favorite bottles is the Selvapiana Chianti Rufina. You can find it for under $20 at the grocery store, and it’s dry with notes of cherry, pepper, and vanilla.

Valentine’s Day Pick #5: A Bordeaux Red Wine

I might be totally biased here because Bordeaux-style blends are my favorite type of wine. But these will pair nicely with almost any dish you’re having for Valentine’s Day. Plus, it’s pretty easy to pick one out at the grocery store, IMO!

Bordeaux red wine will pair nicely with savory meats like beef, pork, and duck, but surprisingly, they also work really well with many Asian dishes and sauces. There’s a good chance that no matter what type of meal you’re having on Valentine’s Day, that a Bordeaux wine will pair perfectly with it!

A tip for reading Bordeaux wines’ labels: if the label says “Grand Cru,” then the vineyard has a favorable reputation for wine production. If a label reads “Premier Cru,” that’s the highest level of distinction that a winery can get in the region. Look out for one of these distinctions on the label when you’re purchasing a Bordeaux wine!
