An introductory course on restorative justice and training in a Community Justice Conference is being offered in Victoria April 14th and 20th-21st. Check out the details below:We want to be very clear with everyone that taking this training does not guarantee that you will be a volunteer at VRJS or any other RJ agency. Although VRJS requires its volunteer caseworkers to go through this training, it is also open to the public and is taken for many different reasons by anybody who is interested in restorative justice. We of course encourage everyone to get involved in restorative justice in their community, and we will be happy to provide you with a list of RJ agencies in the Victoria and surrounding areas if you are interested in volunteering.
Dates:
Day 1: Saturday April 14, 2012
Day 2: Saturday April 21, 2012
Day 3: Sunday April 22, 2012
Time: 9 am – 4 pm each day (end time may be +/- 30 mins).
Cost:$100 for all three days, or $40 for the first day by itself. Please pay *in advance* with cash or cheque by mailing or dropping off your payment to the Victoria Restorative Justice Society (#306-620 View Street, Victoria BC, V8W 1J6). Please make cheques payable to the Greater Victoria RJ Resource Group. Due to a high number of no-shows and last minute cancellations lately, we are implementing a $20 cancellation fee if you do not call or email me by 9 am on Wednesday April 11. My contact info is at the bottom of this email.

If you do become a volunteer with VRJS or Peninsula Crossroads Community Justice Program and meet all volunteer requirements, VRJS/PCCJP will reimburse you $75 of the $100 (you keep the $25 manual).

Facilitators: Liz Cox from the Peninsula Crossroads Community Justice Program and Jeannie Owens-Wallace from the Peninsula Crossroads Community Justice Program and Victoria Restorative Justice Society.

Location: the address is 6843 Central Saanich Road (Keating Elementary School), which is off Keating Cross Road. The training takes place in a building called the District Resource Center, which is a stand alone building behind Keating Elementary School. When you are on Central Saanich Road, turn right into the school parking lot area and follow the little driveway that goes down the left side of the school – this leads directly to the training venue. There is a small parking lot there but it fills up quickly so you may need to park in the main parking lot and walk down (only takes a minute).

Snacks, coffee and tea will be provided for each day of the training, but participants are responsible for their own lunches. There are some fast-food places and a Co-Op grocery store nearby, but not within walking distance given the time allocated for lunch.

If you do choose register but something comes up, please let me know ASAP so we can try to fill your space with another participant. This training always has a wait list and the facilitators count on the number of registered participants for activities, handouts, etc.

To register, or if you have any questions, please contact Shanna Grant-Warmald at office@vrjs.org or (250) 383-5801.
