1st Mozilla Zamboanga Meetup a success

Last January 2, 2011 a group of active I.T. students conducted the 1st Mozilla Zamboanga Meetup group, who are also a fans of Mozilla Firefox. Leaded by Mr. Ellis Marc Calisang who is also a student of STI College Zamboanga. I have the opportunity to join them, since i was already in Zamboanga City and shared my experience as a Mozilla Representative. I was also surprise the group is compose of different school in Zamboanga City like STI College Zamboanga, Western Mindanao Cooperative College, Universidad De Zamboanga, and Western Mindanao State University, who are willing to contribute to the community.

during our discussion, they will conduct a yearly project and recruit for more members to join and contribute some project like localization, design etc. to conclude the meetup it was a success.

as for the moment they created a social network group in facebook for colaboration.

Typhoon Sendong (international codename: Washi) whacked Northern Mindanao, Philippines, letting loose colossal floods across vast areas that left, according to official tally, 278 people dead (and still counting) and nearly 200 others missing in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, and in some towns of Misamis Oriental.

Thousands are in the evacuation centers, many are women and childen--hungry, chilling, crying.

Let's do our part and help.

Mozilla support the web and IT Summit 2011, The WEB & IT SUMMIT is an annual event that started last 2011 through WebGeek Ph together with IT Society of AMA University during the AMA Foundation Week. After its launching on 2009, AMA Information Technology Society handles the said event on the succeeding year with the help of different sponsors and companies in the industry. In just 3 years of making noise in the IT Industry, WEB & IT SUMMIT had been popular and anticipated yearly not only by our students but also some of different Colleges and Institutions related to the IT Field. Fixing USB issue on virtualbox in Fedora

Having issue on USB using virtualbox? or your having a problem that you cannot use any usb device to detect inside virtualbox? here's a simple solution just to detect the device based on my experience using fedora 16 installed with virtualbox :

1. Once you install virtualbox, you need to access the user and groups

2. Go to groups and look for vboxusers

3. Double click to go to properties and add your account

4. Once done,you need to edit the /etc/fstab file and just add this line

none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=991,devmode=664 0 0

Note: You need to change the 991 to the group ID which you can locate on the user and groups.

5. reboot your machine

Now you can test to plug any USB device the virtualbox will detect it without an error.. :)

I've just installed fedora 16 KDE and trying to test one of the online radio for stream but its embed with windows media player, If your looking for alternative to Windows Media Player in linux you can try to install the MPlayer.

Here's a simple two (2) step:

1. Go to Konsole/Terminal

2. use this command: sudo yum -y install mplayer-gui

Then try to refresh the page of the stream radio and test to play :)

Mozilla announce the re-launch of the Firefox Affiliates program (https://affiliates.mozilla.org), a centralized hub for getting and sharing Firefox and Mozilla download buttons.

Unlike traditional affiliate programs, Firefox Affiliates doesn't dole out cash for clicks or downloads. Instead top affiliates will get prizes, praise and good vibes. PhpMyAdmin is asking for Password

It's been a week figuring how to set-up my localhost server with LAMP (I'm using Fedora 15 KDE) and encounter an issue on phpMyAdmin when browsing using http://localhost/phpMyadmin it is asking for username and password, even though i didn't set-up password on mysql. Finally it's just a short tweak on config file to access the mysql using phpMyadmin.

1. You need to be root and access the phpMyAdmin config (config.inc.php)

2. Look for AllowNoPassword

3. the current settings for that is FALSE, you need to set it to TRUE.

now, test to browse the phpMyadmin onto your browser just type the username: root and leave your password to blank. Hope this will help, for those you encounter the same issue same as mine.. :)

Just last month, I join their project Mozilla Rep aka project REMO that aims to empower and support volunteer Mozillians who want to become official representatives of Mozilla. I've been a fans of this browser since then, so i decided to join and was approved last month as a official Mozilla Rep. Now im off to planning my project as their Rep. for my monthly report. :)
