POLL: Why do you leave the match before the final whistle?

I'm always amazed at the number of fans that leave the Emirates before the final whistle has been blown.

Given the cost and how difficult it can be to get tickets to see a match, I think if you're luck enough to get to a game, then you should stay and see your team through the bitter end.

Anyway, if your guilty of not staying, what's your reason?

Arsenal's campaign about to start

Yep, we've waited for this moment for what seems like an age. Big changes over the past couple of months and the question being asked is whether Wenger has done enough to challenge United and Chelsea for the top spot!

I still think Wenger has a signing or two up his sleeve; he's spent less than Liverpool, Man United and Tottenham and still has money in the bank following the summer sell off!

So, to the game against Fulham. Well, they've never beaten us at home, though we did stumble against them last season away where we lost 2 - 1, and so I'm sure Fulham think they have it in them to win.

With Van Persie back and the possibility of an outing for da Silva it will make for a great first match.

Game on!

Reid Right For Charlton's Creative Block

Watching the Fulham/Charlton game on Monday night, it became clear, as with the Portsmouth game before it, that we can more than hold our own with the other also rans of the league. Sadly, a couple of lapses in concentration condemned us to 7 defeats in 8 games, but there were signs that the corner is there for turning.

The best 11 seem at last to be emerging. Diawara made an encouraging return to centre half, and his partnership with Sorondo/Gibbs/Fortune should shore up a pretty tidy backline (El Kark looks too slow in thought and deed at this level now.) Carson has Kiely-like surety, and up front Bent is pure class, whilst JFH can be relied upon to be intelligent and unpredictable.

Its in midfield where we look all at sea. Faye is clearly supposed to provide the backbone and, to be fair, may well do enough once he plays a few games. But a midfield has to do more than defend; create chances, score goals. Faye's foil should be a box-to-box worker (i.e. Lampard, Parker) or a controlling 'quarterback' (dare I say Murphy, Carrick). Hughes and Holland are neither, and its difficult to see Pouso providing it either. A glance to the opposition should exactly what we are missing. Claus Jensen was famous for never laying a tackle in 4 years at The Valley, but his creativity beside Parker's industry provided the launching pad for Charlton's early Premiership success.

One option may be Andy Reid. The ex Forest winger grew into the game on Monday, notably as the pace slowed and Thomas replaced him on the flank. Rommedahl is seemingly being given one last chance to show he can string 2 decent halves (let alone games) together, and Thomas is ahead of Reid in the pecking order as a winger. Im sure even Dowie would agree that 3 wingers in our top 16 players is a luxury we cant afford, but Reid showed enough from dead balls and general vision to suggest he may be worth a run in the middle. Cant be any worse than Hughes, anyway

Whatever the solution, it needs to happen fast. Defeats against Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal are no disgrace.but losing gallantly to Portsmouth, Villa and Fulham are signs of real trouble, and positive performances are not worth anything. Nothing but 3 points against Watford will be good enough this weekend.

Coleman Signing Hits The Bullseye

I've never been entirely convinced by Fulham. From the outside they appear to have talent aplenty, but strike me as being a lazy side. Each year they seem to do enough, but no more - never in danger, but never really threatening - and share the division's anonymous tag with my mob from south east London. Last season was typical; outstanding at home, with a win over Chelsea the most notable, but only one team was beaten at the Stadium of Light all year....

This season they were pantsed in their opening game at Old Trafford, and it looked like more of the same for this campaign. It may well prove to be – up front in particular, the North American connection of McBride and Radzinski that finished the game on the weekend looks less than awe inspiring - but there appears to be a missing ingredient, a bit of flair in the middle of the park, in the shape of Jimmy Bullard.

Bullard is one of those players that have come from no-where to take his seat at the top table. He had a blinding year with Wigan and yet eyebrows would no doubt have been raised when Fulham moved quickly to sign him prior to the end of the last campaign for 2.5m. Surely he wasn’t that good...? Having seen him in action this week, against both Bolton and Sheffield United, it's fair to say it was another great bit of business by an increasingly shrewd Chris Coleman.

More than the free kicks and the rasping drives, Bullard has bought personality to the Cottage midfield. He looks like your archetypal 70's maverick, and plays in much the same way. He provides the perfect antidote to the 'professional' war going on being club and the erstwhile star midfielder, a fan’s favourite that can entertain, perform and get the club noticed. Its got me taking more of an interest in them, anyway. Who on earth are Pipex?

I love it when a plan comes together…

Well it looks like our goal scoring issues have gone away again. Two great wins against Fulham and Newcastle in the space of a week seem to have made our recent woes disappear.

If I’m honest the Fulham score did somewhat flatter the performance at 5-1, however I suspect you wont find too many Reds fans complaining. After more matches than I can remember where after 30+ chances we have only converted the odd one, I can categorically say that we were due a bit of luck.

Gallas to star in remake of Romper Stomper?

What a mess. No, not the on-pitch kerfuffle which inelegantly drew the curtain on
Sky’s coverage of the Fulham – Chelsea game yesterday, but the final third of Fulham’s pitch. Chelsea’s flurry of corners and pressure produced one or two openings, a couple of nervous moments for Fulham players and fans, but nothing to prompt a Milosevic-style myocardial infarction. Chelsea were, simply, not good enough to break down a determined team who, despite defending for much of the game, produced plenty of craft to threaten the champions.

fortress goodison?

“The English are not happy unless they are miserable........ and the Scots are not at home unless they are abroad” George Orwell

(Davie Davie) Davie Moyes has once again shown his true class by choosing the brilliant 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell as his favourite book.

Before looking forward to Everton v Fulham, a quick look at the latest G14 summit.

It was a great relief to see Villarreal get past Rangers. Serious mixed feelings will be evoked if the Yellow Submarines actually go on and win the thing, but we can feel vilified by the fact that they've made the Quarters (or is that now the round of 8) and we could have beat them. Chelsea lost to superior opposition, simple as.

On Wednesday, somehow Simao, scored the crucial goal. You know what they say, 'if you can't join em. beat em.' Or something. What's that you say, they shouldn't have been in it in the first place. Shame on you.

Fair play to Arsenal against the ageing Madrid.

Wednesday night's Gillette Football Special made hilarious viewing. Phil Thompson was somehow demoted to cover the Lyon game and managed to be just as biased, reminding us that him and Houllier still talk on the phone on a regular basis. To cover the Liverpool game, enter stage left Ronnie 'Sportman's' Whelan. Just what is Sky's rigorous recruitment process? A 1980s LFC pundits XI will have to wait for a future blog.

Funnier than them or the Liverpool result (OK maybe not)was Frank Mclintock. Referring to the Arse as 'we' all the way through, and using his own names for all the players - Enray, Rayees and Helleb.

Turning now to the real action, Saturday sees the first of 2 home games from which Everton really should take 3 points. Fulham can look like a really good side at times but the facts that they don't always turn up at Goodison and, whisper it quietly, they don't have an away win, mean we've got to do it.

Selection wise, same again may be the order of the day following an impressive display at West Ham. Moyesy may be tempted to slot in Yobo but probably best to leave alone. We've got to stay positive with 4-4-2, a case of 'four legs good but two legs bad', and really go for Fulham who must be feeling a bit shite after a doing at home by 'the other rubbish away team' Arsenal. A fast start would be great on Saturday, but a comfortable win is obviously a pipe dream.

Idan Tal's gone to Bolton. You had to be in the Park End that night when he scored his goal against Boro. Mistakenly trotting to the wrong side to take a corner, realising his mistake just in time to wander into the box, unmarked, for the ball to fall to him and slot an totally unintentional equaliser. Class.

Looks like we've got Uriah Rennie tomorrow. Not one of our least favourite refs, although he seems to love brandishing cards with a flourish. Fulham seem to hate him though, great.

Up the blues.
