Held in Abingdon at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, and commissioned by the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the event offered SMEs the unique opportunity for informal, face-to-face engagement with UKAEA end users.

This event linked new and innovative technologies from SMEs into the development of fusion energy and specifically the development of the ITER project and promoted networking opportunities primarily for Tier 3 & 4 suppliers, to gain an understanding of the opportunities and to meet potential customers, be it Tier 1 & 2 contractors or fusion engineers/scientists from Culham.

The money will support specialist therapy near Southampton, which isn’t available on the NHS, for physically and mentally impaired children from low-income families across the country.

Trant Engineering, a multi-disciplinary contractor employing 1,000 staff, and electrical group R&M took part in the sporting occasion in front of nearly 150 work colleagues.

In the hard-fought game over 90 minutes, Trant Engineering won 3-0, with an opening goal from Matt Greep and two from Daniel Petley.

Ex-Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy, rated by the Guinness Book of Records as one of the 20 most successful managers in post-war English football, was on hand to present commemorative medals to all 38 players.

His guest appearance was kept a surprise until the last minute.

Brian Robinson, Chairman of R&M, which has 200 staff, said: “It was a great occasion, with a staggering £10,000 raised for the Flutterby Fund. My work colleagues were pinching themselves that they had the rare opportunity to play at the hallowed ground of the Saints.”

Gerry Somers, Managing Director UK at Trant Engineering, the multi-disciplinary contractor with 1,000 staff, said: “This event was very much about giving the work of Flutterby, a charity close to our hearts here at the company, a fundraising boost with a friendly match in the stadium of our home soccer club.

“The match will live in the memories of everyone who took part for a long time to come, with Lawrie’s surprise appearance the icing on the cake for the players.”

Alison Trant, a trustee at the Flutterby Fund, said: “We are grateful to the businesses and individuals who contributed money from this match, raising an incredible £10,000.

“The main aim of the therapies is to encourage and increase each child’s ability to move and function in as normal a way as possible.

“These generous donations will make a difference. For example, £650 provides a 12-hour therapy programme for one child.”

Therapies take place at Sophia’s House, a treatment clinic in Bursledon, near Southampton.

It will be a chance to emulate their Premier League heroes on the field of dreams whilst raising money for a Hampshire children’s charity at the same time.

Staff from two major employers in Southampton take part in a friendly match at the home ground of the Saints before the pitch turf is replaced for the club’s 2017-18 campaign.

Trant Engineering, the multi-disciplinary contractor, and electrical group R&M play the 90-minute charity game at St Mary’s Stadium on Monday, 22^nd May.

Money raised by the event, which sees 38 selected players emerge from the tunnel for a 10am kick-off in front of spectators, will go to the Flutterby Fund.

The charity helps improve the lives of physically and mentally impaired children, from low-income families across the UK, at Sophia’s House, a treatment clinic in Bursledon, near Southampton; the therapies are not available on the NHS.

An online donations page has been set up with a target of £6,000.

Patrick Trant, Chairman of Trant Engineering, the multi-disciplinary contractor with 1,000 staff, said: “Whilst the event will be memorable fun, there is a serious aspect – we are raising vital funds for the Futterby Fund, a local charity close to my heart.

“The main aim of the treatment is to encourage and increase each child’s ability to move and function in as normal a way as possible.

“We’re grateful for the generosity of our suppliers and clients, as well as staff and their families.”

Brian Robinson, Chairman of R&M, which has 200 staff, said: “We eagerly await the game, following in the footsteps of Saints legends, and knowing that a great cause will benefit as well.

“From the dressing rooms to the tunnel, to kicking the ball about on hallowed turf and a presentation ceremony afterwards, the two sides will get the full match-day experience

“The nature of the game is very much a friendly one, with rolling substitutes to give every person a chance to play on the pitch.”

R&M Electrical Group Ltd (Marine Division) a company registered in the UK with overseas companies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cyprus and the Philippines acquired Lumen International Inc a company registered in Miami, Florida, USA on the 31st December 2016.

Subsequently the company has been renamed as “R&M Lumen Electrical Inc” and commenced trading under that name from the 1st January 2017.

In addition Nick Jenkin, R&M’s Global Marine Sales Manager will relocate to Miami and will be responsible for developing and servicing business in North America alongside his global role.
