I know you all (all three of you) want to know what’s new with E and me.

Well… Not much. Things are still good and going strong. Admittedly, we have had a couple of moments where we’ve realized that we are two complicated people with complicated lives, and that integrating those lives will be challenging at times. But we’ve dealt well with that.

As for myself, I’ve realized that no matter how much time one has spent getting one’s poop in a group and learning about oneself, one will always be carrying some baggage into the next relationship. I don’t like this fact at all about myself, but it is what it is. We shall deal.

One thing I really like about my relationship with E is our ability to talk about anything. It seems that from the moment we met (okay, closely thereafter ) we established a dynamic of open and honest communication. I’ve never really had that in a relationship before. Not to this extent.

E is a woman who knows everything about me. She knows my deep, dark secrets. I’d decided after my last relationship that I was going to have to be totally up front with my next girlfriend about all my complicated bits and pieces. I decided, or desired at least, that the next woman I’d choose to be involved with would have to see the all the big, complicated stuff in my current life, and in my past, and still like me anyway. E seems to be such a person.

As of this writing, she hasn’t fled screaming for the hills. And I haven’t even had to hide her car keys. Ha.

Anyway, relatively minor synchromeshing challenges aside, things are going well.

So that’s that, for now.

Since today is Thursday and Friday feels like it’s several miles away, let me share this video with you. This video demonstrates the height of Romanian street racing culture. Hot cars, hotter women. Oh, and an AK-47.

(I should note that back in the late 80’s I once dated a girl who had a red ‘82 Lada Signet. It was cool. One of its options was intermittent wipers. They worked intermittently. So did the engine, though. I wonder if the time we drove it at 60km/h through a kilometre of clay mud a foot deep in second gear had anything to do with that? Dunno. Okay, the car actually plowed through that mud like the little T-72 tank that it was, but we did have a hard time explaining to her dad why there was clay still baked into the wheel wells a month later.)

Yesterday when we were out shopping at the art store, I mentioned that I was thinking of buying a sketchbook. At the last second I decided not to pick one up because they were too expensive for what you actually get.

Lo and behold, this morning she produced this (click for bigger):

It’s absolutely beautiful. It’s roughly 10″x13″, by nearly 2″ thick. Handmade, handbound, handmade paper inside. I was stunned when she presented it to me.

She said she’d been hoping to save it for my birthday. But she’s like me and has a hard time letting a gift sit un-given.

It’s one of the nicest gifts I’ve ever received.

Yup, I think she’s a keeper.

I figure that I should write something in this blog today, if only to assure you, Dear Reader, that I’ve not dropped off the planet.

(This post’s title comes from something my son asked me. I assured him that 1/6 of Earth’s gravity is still gravity. So, no, you can’t fall off of the moon. Good thing, too. Or it would have been raining astronauts back in the late 60’s.)

Things with E are going very well. Very, very well. I’m a happy man.

Last weekend she came out here and, amazingly, helped me clean and purge my tiny little apartment. Who knew that I had floor space and kitchen counter tops?

This weekend, I’m heading out to her place. We’re going to visit M&S tonight. I intend to refrain from the exuberant intake of wine that I demonstrated last time E and I met with them. Ahem.

What we’ll do tomorrow is kind of up in the air. It’s supposed to rain (mix of rain and snow, so they say, actually), so going out shooting is likely not to happen. But I’ve been thinking of taking some long-exposure night shots, of streetlights reflecting off of wet asphalt after (or in) the rain, so we’ll see.

Oh, that reminds me. When we painted together a couple of weekends ago, I produced this…whatsit.

Yeah. I like the colours (and yes, the blue is supposed to be streaky like that), but I have no idea what it is, or what it represents, or… well, anything really. But it was fun to do, and that’s something. The first time I’ve painted in nearly 20 years, too. It measures about 34Wx36H. Big. Biggest I’ve ever painted, besides a mural I worked on back in highschool. Anyway.

Random: finally gave Betty Beretta a long-overdue oil change. Not that you particularly care, but I switched to full synthetic oil, and my gas mileage improved quite noticeably. Very cool.

So, less than 20 days and I’ll find out if I can put Betty into storage and drive around in a new Nissan Cube! I have no idea what my chances truly are (yes, yes, 1 in 10 supposedly), but I’m trying to stay positive. I’d really, really, really like to win my first brand new car, ever. And the Cube is such a funky cool little vehicle.
