Yesterday I received what I would consider both good news and bad news. I have been accepted (via the Lottery) to run this years NYC Marathon, which is going to take place in November 1.

Congratulations! You have been accepted to run the ING New York City Marathon 2009 on Sunday, November 1. On behalf of New York Road Runners, I welcome you to the 40th running of the world’s greatest marathon. We’re hard at work preparing to give you the experience of a lifetime.

The good news is obvious in that I am finally getting to run the one marathon that I have always wanted to run. The bad news is that I was not expecting to get picked for this year, which means that I now have to shift focus on my training. I have a good base, but have been concentrating on shorter distances lately in preparation for the Clermont Triathlon Series that takes place in June, July and August.

I am sure I will be ready, actually I will make sure I will be ready. Still I was not planning, I really only entered this years lottery pick because I did so last year. Typically, if you enter the lottery three years in a row and do not get chosen then you will get a guaranteed entry, that is more what I was hoping for.

That said, I was picked and I feel lucky. Now I just have to figure out the airfare and hotel, and of course training. If one thing will be going for me is that I like to run in the cold, plus from now until November 1 it will be pretty warm in Florida, which means I will be training in what I consider harder weather conditions — the heat and humidity. Of course, being a Florida runner I am not really prepared in regards to having the proper cold weather gear. Hopefully it will be a slightly warmer day on November 1 because I have never run a complete race with anything other than shorts on my legs.

As many of you know, I love to test myself. I consider myself an endurance athlete, but more specifically I consider myself a triathlete and runner. The past few years, I have been focusing more on running events, mainly building up for ultra-distances. That said, I am currently preparing to complete my first 100 miler.

The economy is being blamed for just about everything bad these days. But it does not have to be all bad…

I hate to see everyone blaming everything bad that happens on the economy, sure things could be better right now, but that said, “the economy” should not be an excuse when things go wrong.

Here is my story and how my family and I have been affected and how we are rolling with it and using it as an excuse — an excuse to get what we want.

You see, my wife works in the mortgage industry, she is a closer for a title company and well, lets just say business is not all that great. Of course, it does not stop there, even I have taken a recent hit in my earning lately with blogging. We could just say that it is the fault of the economy and blame everything bad on that — right?

I say wrong, instead we are choosing to come out with what we want. Of course, things have gotten tight for us, or at least tighter than I would like, but that is OK.

Getting back to the story, my wife first had her hours cut, losing a day, sometimes two a week, which really takes its toll on the paycheck. Then she received what could have been even worse news, lose your job or take a transfer. Sounds easy right, just take the transfer. But that means instead of the long 45-60 minute drive (each way) she would now have a 60-90 minute (each way) drive. Sucks, but what can we do, she took the transfer and we are using it to our advantage and thinking on the positive side.

We have wanted to move from where we are for a while now, almost since we moved here, but we were stable and comfortable. Well a 90 minute drive does not make for comfortable (or happy) so we have decided to move. Yup, the bad job situation is going to give us what we have wanted for a while now.

Take that bad economy.

As for me, sure I lost some income, but I am already working on making that up in other ways. One key piece of advice that I would give to any freelancer, blogger or entrepreneur (or whatever you would like to be called) is that having multiple streams of income is better than one. Had I only had one source of income, things would be quite a bit worse right now.

Bottom line is that we have to make our own rules and our own destiny. We have to take care of ourselves and do what we need and want. After all, no one really cares that you have a long drive to work, they just feel that you should be happy to have a job. Screw that, take the bad and make it good. If nothing else think positive!

I mentioned the other day that I am beginning to look into some training methods for Internet Marketing among some other ways to earn money online. Keep in mind, I am not looking for an overnight success program, to be honest those do not exist, but instead I am trying to be able to have an income that earns 24/7. Basically I am looking to be able to have sites generate income as opposed to only being able to earn while I create content. In other words I am looking for a system that will generate a steady stream of income that can compliment the income I earn while blogging.

Given that, one system that I recently began looking into suggests the idea of making money with a collection of smaller (lower earning) sites. Seems to make sense, why spend a lot of time trying to make that one site that will earn lots of money when you can create a bunch of small sites that each generate a few bucks. This program sort of hit me like a ton of bricks, I have (in the past) often had sites that only generated like $3-$5 a day, and I always took them offline because they were “junk.” What I should have done was just create more of them.

The sites are almost always simple to create and launch, and more often than not just need a domain and some hosting. Domains are cheap with places like GoDaddy and you can host unlimited sites under one account with hosts like Dreamhost.

Sure, one site may be 5 bucks a day, but have 20 of them and now you are making $100 a day. Best of all, after the initial work is done, there is very little (if any) up keep or maintenance. Who knows, one of them may even take off over time and become a big hitter.

Anyway, hope this gives you something to consider as a source of online income. If you want to check out the program I have been reviewing, it is called “The Mini Site Formula” which can be found by clicking here.

It is hard to believe, but my last “official” day of work was 3 years ago today.

In other words, my last day of having a 9-5 office style job was March 17, 2006 and although I really quit because I was moving, I had it set in my mind that I needed to find a way to survive on my own. I needed to make my own rules and earn my own paycheck.

With that, I have since figured out ways to earn money. I will admit that it started out pretty rocky, and since there has been a few times that made me question my decision, but all things considered I would not want to have it any other way.

I have bought items to resell on eBay, worked through a virtual call center, and have been blogging full-time for a good while now. Overall things are going well right now, I love blogging and I would say that I am pretty happy with the way things have turned out, of course that is not to say they could not be better.

I am living the Internet dream, some may say the Internet Lifestyle, but I still want more. You see I am currently working as a network blogger, which means I get paid only when I produce.

Like I said, I want more and that means being able to earn at all times, so while I am currently stable and happy, I am going to begin Internet Marketing, or at least begin learning how to. Honestly, this is something that I should have pursued a long time ago, but the task seems daunting. I have however picked up two courses recently that should set me off on a good start, but more on that to come later.

In the meantime, I am going to enjoy the day and my 3-year anniversary of working for myself and making my own rules.

*Before you ask, I don’t have any to give out*

Anyway, it seems that they are also finding an old post on GrandCentral that I wrote over a year ago, and have begun to leave comments on that, also asking for an invitation. That is where it gets good, I really could not make this up.

The reason why we are looking for an invitation is because there are many animals dogs cats etc, that need to be saved from being uthenized. Last night we were able to save another life. Pebbles was going to be uthenized this morning at 5 am. Today she is still alive. With the capabilities of Grand Central we can save many more lives.

Will someone please help from uthinization. We desperately need an invite.

Apparently, by getting signed up for GrandCentral, or now Google Voice, we can help protect animals from being uthenized.

I hate to turn this blog into a sale page for my motorcycle, but the bottom line is that I need the money and I need it quick.

The story is that me and my family are getting ready to move, well we actually found a very nice place to move into and need money (yesterday) to cover the first month, security and moving expenses.

Sadly I did not think that my bike would still be for sale almost 6-months later, but that said I am now dropping the price and offering a commission to anyone who refers the buyer.

Basically, I want $4000 for the bike, but other listings have it priced as high as $5000 on sites like Craigslist and the Cycle Trader. That means, you name the sale price, I keep $4000 and you get anything above and beyond.

Anyone interested in selling a motorcycle?

Trust me when I tell you, this bike is in great shape, it looks and runs like new. You can see the details on my previous post.

Again, you refer the buyer and you keep any money above the $4000 mark. So if you refer someone who buys the bike for $5000 then you make $1000. Of course, the quicker the sale the better.
