onOne Software is selling a wireless cable release that allows the photographer to control the camera from an Apple iPhone or iPod touch. This is a must-have for remote shooting applications like high or low angles, self portraits, sports, and children.

You can adjust cameras settings, fire the shutter, review images, even get a live viewfinder preview. Both USB and FireWire connections are supported. No internet connection is required! However, the camera must be tethered to a Wi-Fi-equipped computer.

There are Lite (US$1.99) and Pro (US$19.99) versions. The Lite version allows users to fire the camera, see post-view image, battery status, and number of images remaining.

The Pro version lets users remotely control camera settings including shutter speed, aperture, white-balance and other settings. You can preview images over your iPhone or iPod touch, look through the camera’s viewfinder remotely using Live View, use the built-in intervalometer for advanced timer shooting, and lets you adjust quality settings and can zoom in on post-view images.

Both MAC OS X and Windows are supported. And, both versions support Apple’s Bonjour zero-configuration networking to find the camera automatically.

After have a camera stolen in Brazil, Jimmie P Rodgers noticed that a Canon PowerShot A95 resembles a film camera. The hand-grip is cylindrical and looks like a film compartment. Video-capable dSLRs are not stable enough nor provide the features for cinema-style production. The Redrock Micro DSLR 2.0 products are available for ordering from Redrock Micro directly and from select Redrock resellers. Pricing depends on configuration, and start as low as $195.

A 72mm filter can be inserted at the rear of the lens, and a circular polarizing filter can be used in situ thanks to an ingenious internal rotation mechanism. There is a dedicated Li-ion battery (BP-21) built in the lens barrel used to power the zooming and AF operation. Focusing distances and focal lengths can be viewed on the built-in LCD panel. Super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high image quality at extremely large apertures.

Can it be used for portrait and model photography?

The minimum focal length of 200mm would require a very large studio. Outdoors, however, the lens really shines. Check the thread on DPReview as well as the website of an Italian photographer that goes by the name “Juza”.

Ritz has about 800 locations in more than 40 states, including the Ritz Camera chain, Wolf Camera, Kits Cameras, Inkley’s and the Camera Shops. The Beltsville, Maryland-based company suffered from a drop in photo printing, as well as slumping sales at its 130 Boater’s World Marine Centers, which were hurt by last year’s record oil prices, court papers show.

In 2001, Ritz acquired Wolf Camera, the second-largest U.S. camera-store chain with 500 locations in 20 states, for about US$85 million. Wolf filed a liquidating Chapter 11 plan that paid the secured bank lender about 50 cents on the dollar, while unsecured creditors received nothing for their US$100 million in claims.

Benjamin Ritz opened his first portrait studio in 1918 on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Twenty years later, Benjamin’s younger brother, Edward, opened their first photo processing lab in Washington and later expanded to Baltimore. The company’s wider expansion began in 1969 under Edward’s son, David.
