Byron Bay September 2009

Just spent 4 fantastic days in the rainforest at Byron Bay. The images above are mostly taken at Gan Edden (Garden Of Eden in Israeli) which is where my friend Vili has been living for the past year.

The view from the verandah is amazing. Very peaceful, disturbed only occasionally by the sounds of magpies, Butcher Birds, eagles, cranes and frogs. Watch carefully and you can see a Frog Mouth Owl which takes up the same spot nearly every day. Also saw goannas and bandicoots, and apparently the odd python turns up.

There’s a Balinese hut at the entrance to the property and also a meditation area overlooking the valley.

We ate organic food every day, most of it from Vili’s organic garden. Francesco also lives there and works as a masseuse at The Byron. Had a great pressure point massage courtesy of Francesco… thanks mate.

And the wine from Organic One… awesome! Our friend Frank Bonic has a real winner here. Nectar of the gods and good for you too. A rare combination.

Also visited Temple Byron to catch up with my other dear friend Paul Margolin.

A petrol station in country Queensland was trying to increase its sales, so the owner put up a sign saying, “Free Sex with Fill-Up.” Soon a local pulled in, filled his tank, and then asked for his free sex. The owner told him to pick a number from 1 to 10. If he guessed correctly, he would get his free sex.

The bloke then guessed 8, and the proprietor said, “You were close. The number was 7. Sorry, no sex this time.”

A week later, the same bloke come along, with his mate, Bluey, pulled in for a fill-up. Again he asked for his free sex. The proprietor again gave him the same story, and asked him to guess the correct number.

The bloke guessed 2 this time. Again the proprietor said, “Sorry, it was 4. You were close, but no free sex this time.”

As they were driving away, the bloke said to his mate, “I think that game is rigged and he doesn’t really give away free sex.”
Blue replied, “No, it ain’t, Bill. It ain’t rigged — my Missus won twice last week.”

About Desiderata

“Desiderata” (Latin for “desired things”, plural of desideratum) is an inspirational prose poem about attaining happiness in life.

I first came across it when I was 17 years old and working in the desert of Western Australia during my university holidays.

I gave it to my mother to inspire her and to help with her depression and she always had it displayed in her home.

I recently found a great interpretation of the messages contained in Desiderata. Check it out here
