The above video footage is from a bicycle safety film from 1963 called One Got Fat. Monkey-masked careless kids on bikes getting hit by cars, oh my! I wonder how effective that video was for influencing good bicycling habits?

I hadn’t intended to release an album like this, it just kinda happened. Every evening starting late March 2014, I started noodling around in Logic Pro X for an hour or two before bed, and by the beginning of May, I had this 29-minute weirdo album! It is sometimes heavy, sometimes melancholy, and usually weird. It is all recorded with a Fender Stratocaster, with the addition of bass guitar on most tracks, Logic drums on most tracks and light keyboard on a few tracks.

For best results, listen with good headphones and as loud as reasonably healthy for your ears!

About The Cover Art

The title track is a simple little ditty about a game that we played as kids in our back yard. I knew that the album cover had to include a swing set and at least one alligator. The image below was my first draft of an album cover, done with crayon on construction paper. It captured the spirit of what I was going for but it didn’t quite feel right:

One day I was eating lunch by myself and decided that I wanted to include a reference to every song from the album on artwork that spans the back and front cover. I made the following sketch on the inside cover of my car’s owner’s manual while scarfing down my Wendy’s:

When I got home that day, I re-drew the image on paper making some adjustments and it ended up looking like this:

Later that week I scanned the image. Then over the next several days I drew the actual album art into Photoshop using a Bamboo tablet. And voilà, the final product!:

I think that you will agree that the songwriting on this one is 61% better than stuff that I’ve done in the past and the recording and production values for this one are 213% better than stuff that I have done in the past. You’ll like it, I am 91% sure!

I don’t know what the point was when I sketched this. I think that, for a twenty second sketch from a non-artist, the spirit of these two blokes was captured quite nicely, eh? From the looks of the rest of the page, I was doing free association with words that I heard on TV, trying to come up with something creative for a song idea. (Of course Phil Collins is/was the lead singer and drummer of progressive rock group Genesis as well as each-record-is-cheesier-than-the-previous solo artist. Henry Rollins is the hardcore/punk singer/songwriter/spoken word artist of Black Flag and Rollins Band fame.)
