This month USA Rock 101 is the newest addition to the Rockin the Shed family, broadcasting from Gainesville, Sherman, & Denison, Texas USA. Listeners can catch Dave & AJ on the airwaves every Sunday from 8pm to 10pm (PST).
On Friday, July the 4th, the dudes rocked up at Veracity Music’s Independent Music Day Festival. The gig showcased the talents of eleven up and coming artists from the Veracity Music record label.

Five of the eleven acts featured at the gig, will be release their original material as either a single, E.P or album before year end. Noteable acts on the night were, Rockin’ the Shed’s July artist of the month Outlier, and Sydney four piece The Numinus, who Dave and AJ had in the studio’s earlier this month for an interview, 4 July 2007 (Week 82).
Thought I should chuck in something live from Staind, as their sixth studio album is due for release next month. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZJujcwPqPe4

(antiMusic) Anti- Records is pleased to announce the signing of One Day As A Lion featuring Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) and Jon Theodore (ex-The Mars Volta).

“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept. “A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.

“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”

(NME.COM) Funeral For A Friend are releasing one half of the new double A-side single as a free download.

The first track on the Waterfront Dance Club/Beneath The Burning Tree release will be available to download for free from July 14 from Waterfrontdanceclub.com.

The double A-side is released on vinyl on the same date. The band release their fourth album, ‘Memory And Humanity’, on October 13, after which they will embark on a UK and Irish tour.

Lost Hendrix Album

(Blabbermouth) A lost album Jimi Hendrix recorded with rocker Stephen Stills has been discovered more than 30 years after it was recorded.

Stills recently found the recording among a stack of material he taped during the 1970s, and his Crosby, Stills And Nash bandmate Graham Nash is helping him prepare it for release.

Nash tells the Las Vegas Sun, “He has an enormous history of recording. In the ’70s, he was a recording fool. He just found a bloody album he made with (Jimi) Hendrix.

(Billboard) In celebration of Slipknot’s fourth studio CD, ‘All Hope Is Gone,’ the Iowan rockers’ unveiled a brand-new set of masks.

The latest masks are creepier and more intricate than ever — some evoking the chilling countenance of film horror figures like Hannibal Lecter and Pinhead. Not kidding. So feast your eyes on the new collection, then take a trip back in time with pics of every mask worn by the band throughout its career — all right after the jump.

An astonishing 8 million people logged on to see the new masks the day they were released.

New Season Black
Adelaide 5 piece outfit New Season Black came together in late 2006, and hit the ground running, sharing the stage alongside two of Australia’s defining Alternative Rock acts, in Behind Crimson Eyes and 28 Days, The Hot Lies, Carpathian, The Amity Affliction, and Irrelevant.

It is that support and momentum, that saw the boys successfully top the TripleJ Unearthed Contest, landing them a support slot on the Adelaide 2007 taste of Chaos, alongside Rock/Emo Heavyweights, The Used and Punk/Hardcore veterans Rise Against, among others.

Boasting melodic hooks, momentous riffing, and explosive live shows; NSB are quickly gathering themselves an eager-to-return fanbase who are always left more than pleased, but wanting that little bit more, show after show.

All Music Guide’s Clayton Bolger described Silverchair’s album Young Modern as an improvement by the band, praising “catchy melodic hooks, inspired lyrical themes, and stunning string arrangements”. He claimed the album was the pinnacle of the band’s development. PopMatters’ Nick Pearson saw the opposite, claiming that “once you reach the level of intellectual maturity where you can tell the difference between cryptic but poetic lyrics and nonsensical crap, you have outgrown Silverchair”. Pearson called the album an attempt to secure a safer territory and assure sales, after the success of past works, calling it more boring than its predecessors.

Fakie For Nothing

Fakie For Nothing has been announced as our TOP 10 Winner for the month of June with their song “Dance Like This!”. Every month on Rockin The Shed we compile all your votes and song requests to bring you our Top 10 Songs for the month.

Fakie is a 5-piece pop-punk act from Sweden. They have played since 2003 but got their present line-up in August 2007. In a short period of time the band has managed to form their own type of sound. Experimenting with different electronic elements that normally aren’t used in this type of genre.

The music could be described as a foundation built by pop-punk with broad influences, mainly alternative rock. One of the main things that describe “FFN” and make their sound special is the powerful vocals and their catchy refrains. They are strongly influenced by the past and the present, bad things and good things that happened to their individual lives. They have played tons of shows all around Sweden with great feedback and they love to gain new influences and meet people from different places.

A last thing worth being mentioned is the positive review they got from the American pop-punk band Good Charlotte.

(FMQB) Metallica promises that their new Web site, MissionMetallica.com, will begin offering insight into their upcoming album starting today. A post on the band’s regular Web site, Metallica.com, reads, “On May 27, 2008 Mission: Metallica becomes our way to bring you in and share with you not only the writing and recording process that’s been taking place in the last 18 months, but also what’s ahead between now and when the record is in your hands. And instead of waiting and releasing some ‘making of the record’ additional DVD in a bullshit deluxe package when the album comes out, we figured why not let you be part of it up front?” The Mission: Metallica site will offer fly on the wall video footage from the studio, riffs and excepts of the music, photos, contests and more. “You’re going to be part of the experience over the next four months or so as we put the finishing touches on the album, including mixing, mastering, artwork, photo sessions, etc,” the band promises. In addition to that free content, fans can also join “Mission: Metallica Platinum,” which for a fee, gives users access to high-quality digital album downloads delivered at midnight on release date, the physical album CD, plus downloads of classic live shows, more fly-on-the-wall studio footage, additional photos, and ringtones of riffs from the new album. In addition, Platinum members will be able to enter exclusive contests to win airfare, hotel, concert tickets, and meet-and-greet passes to Metallica’s performances at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Ozzfest, and the U.K.’s Reading Festival, as well as a special album listening party at the band’s Northern California headquarters. Metallica’s next album is expected in September.

The Offspring Contest

(FMQB) The Offspring have announced a contest for fans to create a video for their new single, “Hammerhead.” The winning video will receive a grand prize of $10,000, while the most viewed entry on YouTube will get $3,000 and the most popular entry on YouTube gets $2,000. The complete information on the contest can be found here. The band’s new album, Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace, will be out June 17.

The Killers Add A New Band Member

(KROQ) This can easily win the oddest duet in rock history award. The Killers have asked Mike Tyson (dubbed The Baddest Man on the Planet) to duet with them when they play the Reading and Leeds festivals later this year. Tyson first hooked up with The Killers at a karaoke bar in Vegas and appeared on stage with them in their 2008 NME Award video acceptance speech.

Speaking about how the odd duet got started, the band told NME: “We first met him in the Asian quarter of Vegas. “We were all hoarding the karaoke space. Then in walks Mike Tyson. You could just tell he was up for a bit of karaoke. He just had that look in his eye, y’know? “So it was kinda love at first sight. Me and Mike did ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ by Whitney Houston, and then afterwards we shared a plate of Asian delicacies. All of that is true. “When asked what they would perform with Tyson, the group said: “A duet on [Joy Division's] ‘Shadowplay’ would be cool. “He brought up doing ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, but I don’t think it’d work with our band.”

Scars On Broadway To Film ‘They Say’ Video

(blabbermouth.net) Scars On Broadway, the new band from System Of A Down guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, has tapped Paul Minor (Muse, Funeral For A Friend) to direct the video for its first single, “They Say”.

Scars On Broadway will release its self-titled debut on July 29 via Interscope Records. Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan held off on shopping for a record contract until completing the CD. Malakian told The Pulse of Radio that the music won’t be as heavy as his work with System. “There are your aggressive moments, but I don’t see it as being as metal as it is rock,” he said. “It’s just as eclectic as anything that I’ve done with System, so it goes place to place. I think you’ll hear my style there, you know, you’ll hear touches of what you’ve heard from me before in some ways, and like I said, I think it drives more in a rock way than it does in a metal way.”

Both Scars On Broadway and System lead singer Serj Tankian declined to release their latest projects through Columbia Records, where System has been signed since 1998. Tankian’s debut solo effort, “Elect the Dead”, came out last fall through the Warner Music Group. Scars On Broadway made its live debut in April with a low-key show at the Whisky A-Go Go in Los Angeles, followed by a slot at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California. Tankian’s solo band also played at Coachella.

System Of A Down has been on hiatus since 2006 while its members have pursued various personal projects.

On a wet & cold Sydney night. At an exclusive invite only gig, the crowd was warmed up and left boiling at the end of a kickass set from Orange born, The Filthy Rich. The 4 piece band opening the night up with adrenaline charged country bred rock n roll did not disappoint. The set was full the, Good dirty fun…… Oz style…. Drunken laughter… Organised chaos….. Beers and smokes…. Foot-tappin Rock’n'Roll…… sound they promised, and capped off nicely with a Bee Gee’s cover. http://www.myspace.com/filthyrichbaby

Fakie For Nothing has been announced as our TOP 10 Winner for the month of June with their song “Dance Like This!”. Every month on Rockin The Shed we compile all your votes and song requests to bring you our Top 10 Songs for the month.

“Fakie is not just for nothing; it’s for everything and represents all that is in our lives.”

Hey Rockers,

What month so far, I’ve had the privilege of checking out some sweet bands of late, especially The Filthy Rich check em out at http://www.myspace.com/filthyrichbaby now!
AJ and I checked out Behind Crimson Eyes, Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold, the best 66 bucks I’ve spent for a gig this year and no band on the night disappointed, oh kudos to ‘Sam’ who jumped up on stage with Avenged Sevenfold and sung Panteras Walk, nice job…you lucky SOB.

The dudes got out and around for the Bell Walk for Kids. The seventh annual Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone in Canada was a huge success thanks to everyone who walked, volunteered and collected pledges. More than 20,000 people put their best foot forward on May 4th and helped raise $3 million for Kids Help Phone. Big thanks to aussie rockers INK for sparing sometime to showing their support, check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dDXt1ECSJA

Makeshift Romeo

Makeshift Romeo has been announced as our TOP 10 Winner for the month of April with their song “Hurt Me”. Every month on Rockin The Shed we compile all your votes and song requests to bring you our Top 10 Songs for the month.

Makeshift Romeo came together after the breakup of the Cape Coral, Florida based nu metal band, Twisted Method.Twisted Method had been in existence since 1998, where the four band members Derrick Tribbett (vocals), Andrew Howard (guitar), Derek DeSantis (bass) and Ben Goins (drums), met through school and ultimately formed a band together.

The band was discovered by the management group, 3-Sixty Management, who were impressed by their live show. They subsequently were signed by MCA Records and released their one and only album, Escape from Cape Coma, on July 15, 2003. Twisted Method also appeared at the Ozzfest Tour in 2003, where they performed on the second stage. They also had the highest record sales for all the band’s performing on the second stage that year. A second Twisted Method album was in the works (despite record label problems), when it was announced that the band broke up.

Makeshift Romeo got off to a shaky start, when former Slitheryn drummer Tom “T-Bone” Burke departed, and ex-Motograter bassist Johnny Nailz left due to “musical differences”. In the end, Edsel Dope of the industrial rock band, dope, joined as the full-time drummer, and Virus, also of dope, took the place of Johnny Nailz as of June 2006, taking over guitar duties. The band released their 9 track self titled EP Makeshift Romeo on July 13, 2006. The band self-released the EP, as they currently aren’t signed to a record label. It is only available online or at their live shows. Two of the songs featured, “Hurt Me” and “The Way I Was”, were intended for the second Twisted Method album.

Makeshift Romeo completed the Jägermeister sponsored Summer of Sin Tour (2006) with dope, Manntis, Bleed the Sky and Anew Revolution.

Led Zeppelin World Tour

(mirror.co.uk) Led Zeppelin are set to reform for a world tour after their triumphant one-off reunion concert. The Whole Lotta Love legends, with more than 300 million album sales worldwide, are ready to rock ‘n roll again to mark their 40th anniversary this year. And like the Rolling Stones, they could each make up to 10million pounds.

Fans have been calling for Led Zep to tour after their successful gig at London’s 02 Arena last December, which saw Jason Bonham on drums in place of late dad John. Singer Robert Plant, 59, was originally opposed to the idea but has been talked round by bandmates Jimmy Page, 64, and John Paul Jones, 62. A long-time pal, Whitesnake’s frontman David Coverdale, said yesterday the tour was “very likely” and he was expecting to be the support act.

David said: “I’m expecting a call from Jimmy any day asking my band Whitesnake to support them on their world tour. Am I on board? You bet. Probably worth billions! “Unlike rolling out the wheelchairs with the umpteenth Rolling Stones world tour, a Led Zeppelin tour will be incredible.” A source added: “A couple of months ago, it looked unlikely because Robert was against the idea. “But now it looks almost certain. It would either be at the end of this year or early 2009.”

New Buckcherry Album Update

(SleazeRoxx.com) Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson has posted a new studio blog.

“Today is the day. We started writing and rehearsing for these recording sessions a few months back and now the time has come to put this baby on wax! We have so many songs now, the biggest challenge is what NOT to include on the record. A quality problem. True to form we work quick, afterall we did “15″ in fifteen days. We’re shooting for the same vibe with this one, but maybe adding an extra week. Will we call it “21″? Ummm… No. But, part of what made that record so much fun is we just captured the raw essence of the band without over-thinking the recording process, and that’s exactly how we’re making this one.

Stay tuned for more updates as I’ll be taking the time to let you know what’s going on here and how everything is progressing a little more frequently than before. We can’t wait for everyone to hear this new music. Keep the faith and stay tuned!” Keith.

Nine Inch Nails Do It Again

(FMQB) Trent Reznor has done it again, releasing an entire new Nine Inch Nails album digitally and for free . The Slip can now be downloaded via the band’s Web site in multiple digital file formats. Two weeks ago, radio was serviced with a new single, “Discipline,” and Reznor began hinting on NIN.com that something big was coming on May 5. The Slip was posted first thing this morning, with a note from Reznor saying “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one’s on me.”

To acquire The Slip, fans must enter their email address, where a link is sent to download the album in their chosen file format. NIN also promise that “for those of you interested in physical products, fear not. We plan to make a version of this release available on CD and vinyl in July. Details coming soon.” The tracks from The Slip are also available in multi-track format for remixing.

The majority of the NIN summer tour of North America goes on sale later this week as well. The trek begins with a performance at the Pemberton Festival on July 25 and is slated to wrap in Inglewood, CA on September 6. Headlining slots at Lollapalooza in Chicago and the Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore are also scheduled in August.

(antimusic) Slash of Guns N Roses, Tommy Lee of Motley Crue and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park joined all-star cover band Camp Freddy last night (May for their show at the Roxy in Los Angeles

Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook — who took the stage with the band last week, as previously reported –also joined in on the hard-rock romp, along with Billy Duffy of The Cult, Duff McKagan of Guns N Roses and Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains.

This was the second of the four-night Roxy residency for Camp Freddy, which features Billy Morrison (The Cult), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Matt Sorum (Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver), Donovan Leitch (son of singer Donovan), and Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction).

The band performed cover songs by their guest performers as well as Led Zeppelin and Oasis, with their former Creation Records boss Alan McGee looking on.

The evening culminated with an explosive performance of Guns N Roses’ ‘Paradise City’ featuring Slash and Navarro on guitar, Sorum on drums, McKagan on bass, and Bennington on vocals. With so many musicians on stage, Navarro quipped, “Now can someone please find Slash a guitar–is that so hard?”

Makeshift Romeo has been announced as our TOP 10 Winner for the month of April with their song “Hurt Me”. Every month on Rockin The Shed we compile all your votes and song requests to bring you our Top 10 Songs for the month. The rockers from Fort Myers, Florida came together in 2005 as a result of the break up of their previous band Twisted Method. Formed by vocalist Derrick “Tripp” Tribbett and bassist Derek DeSantis, formerly of Twisted Method, Makeshift Romeo got off to a bit of a shaky start, when former Slitheryn drummer Tom “T-Bone” Burke departed, and ex-Motograter bassist Johnny Nailz left due to “musical differences”. In the end, Edsel Dope of the industrial rock band, dope, joined as the full-time drummer, and Virus, also of dope, took the place of Johnny Nailz as of June 2006, taking over guitar duties. On July 13, 2006 Makeshift Romeo released their 9 track self titled EP Makeshift Romeo independantly as they arn’t currently signed to a record label. Therefore bad news is its only available online or at their live shows.

Attack In Black

Attack in Black has been announced as our TOP 10 Winner for the month of April with their song “Hunger Of The Young”. Every month on Rockin The Shed we compile all your votes and song requests to bring you our Top 10 Songs for the month.

Attack in Black are a Canadian rock band, formed in Welland, Ontario. They first signed to Skate Ahead Records for their self-titled album debut in 2005. In spring 2006, they signed with Dine Alone Records, home to other big Canadian acts such as City and Colour, Bedouin Soundclash and Cancer Bats. Attack in Black’s music merges old school rock and roll with modern day punk rock. In some respects, their sound resembles popular forms of melodic, aggressive or energetic punk rock.

The band members began their careers playing eight-band hard rock shows and opening for such bands as Death by Stereo and Every Time I Die. The band immediately had a following in the Welland area, due to having performed in other local acts prior to Attack in Black’s formation. Originally comprised of brothers Ian and Daniel Romano, guitarist Spencer Burton, and bassist Aaron Murphy, the band recorded a self-titled EP with Skate Ahead Records. After its release in 2004, Murphy quit and was replaced by another Welland-area musician, Matt Ellis. Ellis did not stay in the band long, where he left and was replaced by Ian Kehoe, who had previously been in a band with Spencer.

Closely following the lineup change, Attack in Black toured to Victoria, British Columbia, and Calgary, Alberta to play a number of hard rock shows. Upon their return, they spoke with promoter Joel Carriere, who had just founded Dine Alone Records. He offered to sign them and put out their next EP, and, in early 2006, the band accepted. The four-song Widows EP resulted from this new agreement and was released in September 2006.

The album, entitled Marriage, was released on July 31, 2007, coinciding with a record launch show at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario. They also released The Curve of the Earth, which consists entirely of acoustic songs, in November 2007.

(Blabbermouth) Tired of a world in which Americans idolize wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock ‘n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (OK, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, “Chinese Democracy”, in 2008.

In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except former GN’R guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time - anytime! - in 2008. Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.

Commented Axl Rose in a statement: “We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album, ‘Chinese Democracy’, as for us this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.”

Oasis, Foo Fighters to Headline Virgin Festival

(gigwise) Oasis and the Foo Fighters will headline the Virgin Festival in Canada this September, it’s been confirmed.
The two day festival in Toronto, which runs from September 6th-7th, will also feature performances from Bloc Party, Paul Weller, Stereophonics and Spiritualised.

So far the festival is Oasis’ only confirmed date for 2008 and will likely see them perform tracks from their as-yet-untitled seventh album.
The band have spent the last few months recording the studio project in London and Los Angeles.

(antiMusic) Michigan’s Still Remains has officially announced plans to disband following their current tour. Formed in 2002, the group released two albums with Roadrunner Records. Here’s a statement from the band:

“This is a goodbye letter from us to you. We will be seeing most of you again I’m sure but not from on stage. We’ve decided to make this headlining tour our last as Still Remains and Cornerstone Festival our last show. We want to thank all of the wonderful loving people we’ve met in the past few years for being there for us. It’s been an amazing run but we are done for personal reasons. No we don’t hate each other or want to punch each other in the face. It’s just time for us to move on to different things in our lives. Please come see us on our headlining tour and help us go out with a bang! We are extremely excited to see what the future holds for each and every one of us. So keep your eyes and ears open and God Bless!”

The Let There Be Rock Festival was born out of the belief that a need exists for the unsigned acts. In this uncertain economic climate while also serving to enhance the cultural vibrancy of rock music of the world - Just as important was the belief that a catalyst was needed for Rock to unite as one voice, regardless of aesthetic, genre, or discipline. For more info. click here.

After receiving endless requests for their music Rockin The Shed has crowned Attack In Black as No.1 for the Month of April.
