In the Bible there are many analogies and ‘parables’ in reference to agriculture, as that was easy to relate to for people of that day.

Everyone understands that if you want to grow fruit, you need to plant a tree. It would be ridiculous to go out in your back yard and look across an acre of weeds and say, “Why isn’t there an apple tree yet?” The answer would be simple; because I haven’t planted apple seeds.

Many people want ‘fruit’ in their lives without the work of ‘sowing’. Then they see fruit in the lives of others and have resentment in their heart because they want what God has given to someone else. But consider the sowing of the seed and the labor that accompanies the fruit.

I have spent seventeen years in private worship and intercession, hours each day. Only three years ago did  I began to sing what I sang in private, in front of people. I sowed in the place of intimacy in the secret place before ever singing on a stage.

What fruit is it you desire in your life?

Recently I read a book called “Glory Invasion” by David Herzog. In the book the author talks about ‘violent reaping’ and ‘violent sowing’.  I was deeply convicted that I need to sow the seeds of the fruit I want to see grow. For instance, if I want to see the Lord use me in healing ministry, I need to sow into fruitful ministries in that area and step out and pray for people in that area.

When you sow into the ‘secret place’ you reap the reward of a deeper revelation of the knowledge of God. I can’t think of greater place to sow than the secret place of prayer, and houses of prayer. Father, help me to be one who sows extravagantly in the secret place, and secretly into places of prayer.

The greatest motivation for obedience comes as we encounter more revelation of who Jesus is. (Mike Bickle)

It seems that the more we try to live lives of full obedience and wholeheartedness that we often become more discouraged with our lack of commitment and character. Maybe we are trying too hard to ‘do’ the things that we should be doing rather than setting on our hearts on becoming wholehearted lovers of God. We will do more for God out of hearts of love and devotion than we could ever do out of stubborn determination.

As we focus on His heart toward us and encounter His passionate affection for us, then we will become more equipped to overcome temptation. (Mike Bickle)

We as believers seem to get caught up in a desperate battle against sin in our lives and usually don’t fare all that well. The results of all our efforts is that we become more frustrated, hopeless and often crippled by shame. We need to change our strategy. Instead of focusing on our sin and inability to overcome, we need to focus our hearts on God’s love and affections for us. Realizing that God delights in us, even in our weakness, will cause sin’s stronghold of shame and failure to lose its control. This truth seems to go against human nature which tells us to simply try harder.  God has made it easy and simple. We tend to complicate matters.

One of the great benefits of the House of Prayer is that in the place of worship and prayer we encounter the heart of God. As we seek Him and set our hearts before Him we discover His unfathomable beauty, we fall in love and become ruined for anything less. God loves to surprise people as they worship and pray.
