They shutdown Granville Street and had a contest where each shop brought its own obstacle. Every shop team would skate the obstacle for 10 minutes and the judges would award $1000.00 to the winning team on each obstacle.

Some great skateboarders ripped the park. Adam Hopkins and Riley Bowland battled all day to see who would take home the top spot.

This local bowl contest has had a long history. 17 years of contests at all of the major bowl style skateparks around BC.

The Boarding House skateshop (RIP) started this series. After closing its doors, the local skate community has picked up the cause. Local skaters have organized the contest every year since. No financial interest. No cool guy credit. No big sponsor paycheques. Just a strong love of skateboarding drives these contests.

What better way than getting together with a few hundred skaters and starting the Bowl Series 2011? This year was a beautiful day filled with skating, drinking, fireworks and some crashes.

The contest itself is loosely organized and judged on a scale of Rad. The big winners each year aren’t the Advanced or Sponsored guys. Its the Beginner category that walks away with armloads of gear to stoke them out and keep them interested. Always remember to support the generation behind you.

Thanks go to all this years sponsors: RDS apparel, Skull Skates, Vans Footwear, Sector Nine and many more that I can’t remember. Oh yeah “Auto Repairs R Wee” gave away shirts and decks. Wee, you’re awesome! Thanks for fixing my truck.

We left the music and commentary on the audio because it makes you feel like you were there. It may get a little hard to listen too but the feeling is there. Looking forward to 2011.

Some great skateboarding went down that day. It was super hot but that didn’t stop the skaters.

The Women’s contest went off. There was a record number of competitors.

The Men’s advanced included Mike Pragnell, Steve Denham, Nate Lacoste, Mike Connolly, Adam Hopkins, Adam Tagg, Giver, and many more.

This was a low key contest that only had 3 obstacles. Some great skating went down on a ledge, flat bar and a wedge ramp.

In this episode we catch the crowning of the King of The Bowl at Whistler, BC. This was a great session with beginner, women, intermediate, and advanced heats.

It was a great time. The MC, Steve Lange, did a good job of organizing a skateboard contest. Which can be like herding cats.

Antisocial Skate shop put a mini ramp in the middle of Main Street in Vancouver. It was part of a  Main Street Business Association Block Party. A ton of skaters showed up to shred in the sun.

For a lucky few this resulted in a rarely skated pool in a downtown motel being open for a session. We hope you enjoy this quick hit at a short lived pool.

We take a break and go to Railside skatepark in Port Coquitlam for 5 tricks in 5 tries with Adam Cassidy. This time Craig Williams calls the tricks for Adam to try.

We return to Hastings Skatepark to watch the Sunday Skate Hockey.

This winter was cold and snowy in Alberta. Many days were -20 degrees celsius or colder. Thankfully the skaters there have three indoor skateparks to choose from.

We start in West Edmonton Mall at the West 49 skatepark. There we see Nathan Popik call 5 tricks with 5 tries at  each.

Then we head south to Red Deer and skate the Vertical Edge Skatepark

Although no planning goes into the event alot of sponsorship does - Skull Skates, RDS, Circa, Ink Bomb Tattoo, Antisocial and Meridian Distribution.

Whistler is a great bowl with some fun lines. Everyone had a great time on a rainy Sunday in August.

Congratulations to Dave 57 for the overall title of King Of the Bowls. See you next year on July 1st, 2008 for the start of the bowl series.

The contest was held in two parts. The first was a two run – first wall rebate bowl contest. There were two divisions and lots of happy skaters.

The second part was Best Trick held on both the Gap and Handrails. Skaters were flinging themselves across the gap and down the metal rail.

Every summer on July 1st – Canada Day, the locals hold a contest that starts off the summer bowl series. This series is very grassroots and volunteer organized. A big thanks to all the volunteers. I will see you next year.
