Street Heroes, the 1st urban culture international festival from Romania, will be held on 12th-14th of August, in Tineretului Park from Bucharest.

The graffiti contest will gather 12 teams consisting of maximum 5 writers (participation is by invitation only). There will be 3 evaluation criteria upon following points:

• originality: crews point of view upon the given theme
• style: crews power to stand out with artistic style (complexity, characters, colors, effects, shades, etc.)
• performance: the time given, each crew will be checked from time to time to check progress (time to do paper-sketch and put onto wall, etc.).

Prize: 5000 EUR – cash

Concept painting – Murals

Each crew will have to perform a piece together within 22 hours under the following conditions: same colours (50 types of colours Montana Black 400ml), same topic (provided by the judges few minutes before the competition starts, same time: 22 hours for everybody to perform). The 22 hours will be divided on 3 days, as it follows:

• 1st day: at 12:00 all crews must be present at the event for receiving the topic of the mural competition. this day will end at 06:00 pm as all crews will have to stop painting and continue the next day
• 2nd day: starts at 11:00am and ends at 6:00pm. as the day before, the painting will continue on the 3rd day.
• 3rd day: starts at 11:00am and ends at 6:00pm. after 6:00pm, within 1hr time, the winners will be announced.

Freestyle throw ups

During the 2nd day, at 2:00pm, one member of each crew performs a throw up under the following conditions: same colors (2 types of Montana Black 400ml or Montana Gold 400ml) which can be either black and chrome, or 2 colours that the jury will decide; same word (provided by the organizing crew a few seconds before the competition starts, same time: 90 seconds to perform for everybody).

Freestyle hand-styles – Tags

During the 2nd day, at 4:00pm, one member of each crew performs a tag under the following conditions: one Montana marker (Montana BOMBING Marker, 20 mm T-tip), same word (provided by the organizing crew a few seconds before the competition starts, same time: 300 seconds to perform for everybody), on canvas.

Freestyle sketching

During the 3rd day, one member of each crew performs a sketch under the following conditions: same markers (24 type of COPIC sketch and TOUCH markers, also spray-paint allowed to use), same word (provided by the judges few seconds before the competition starts, same time: 120 minutes for everybody), ON CANVAS ,canvas size: 20cm x 30 cm. the minimum covering of the sketch to taken into consideration is 70% of the total surface of the canvas.

It’s a tradition: heads of state exchange gifts when visiting each other. So on his recent trip to the USA, UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron has given President Barack Obama a piece of graffiti art by British graffiti artist Ben Eine. In fact it was a swap: in return, Mr. Cameron was given a litho by the American Ed Ruscha.

What a rise in fame and status for graffiti! It used to be called defacing public property. Then the elusive Banksy began getting thousands for his pieces. And now the President of the USA has it hanging in the White House.

Ben Eine is a newer and quirkier gaffiti artist than Banksy, who has become almost old hat; making world tours and popping up in Canada and the USA. Eine has been in the graffiti business for almost twenty years, starting when he was 14 years old. His pseudonym comes from the word one, which morphed into uno and then the german eine.

Much is known about him; he has been photographed, he lives in the east end and he has three children, works as a full-time artist and shows his work in galleries.

His latest project, which is hardly graffiti, and more art, is located on the shuttered doors of shops in the east end of London. Called “Alphabet Street”, he spray painted a letter on the door of a series of shops, all with the permission of the shop owners. They collaborated about the colour of the letter that they got. And some fit the shop, for example Flying Burrito got an F.

The street looks magical now and the locals love it: “The nicest reaction is seeing kids skipping down the street calling out the alphabet – or,” he adds, “parents saying my work has helped their kids learn their A to Z.”

Asociatia Culturala “Urban Vision” si Skunk Predatorz prezinta a sasea editie a festivalului de muzica electronica si arte vizuale si va invita sa descoperiti castelul Gyulay Ferenc din Mintia. Un decor hunedorean istoric care emana un aer mistic in mijlocul unui cadru natural feeric. Trei zile toride de reconectare cu natura, muzica si proiectii pe doua scene.

Castelul Gyulay Ferenc este situat in satul Mintia, comuna Vetel, judetul Hunedoara la 8,5 km distanta de Deva. Un decor hunedorean istoric care emana un aer mistic in mijlocul unui cadru natural feeric. Parasesti E68, traversezi liniile de cale ferata si in cateva minute ajungi la locatie – un parc cu multi copaci, verdeata si umbra, intins pe 5 hectare marginite in partea nordica de raul Mures.

Proiectul “ALL CITY WRITERS” este rezultatul unei ample cercetari asupra miscarii graffiti, axata in special asupra procesului de transmitere al acesteia din New York in toata Europa in perioada anilor ’80.

“ALL CITY WRITERS” cauta sa documenteze evolutia si consecintele fenomenului cultural denumit “graffiti”, responsabil pentru provocarea multor schimbari in estetica si comunicarea societatii moderne.

Cartea “ALL CITY WRITERS” de Andrea Caputo este publicata prin Kitchen93 si sustinuta de Carhartt.

“ALL CITY WRITERS” contine 1230 de poze, 620 de articole, 410 pagini color si mai bine de 250 de writeri implicati in contributia cartii. “ALL CITY WRITERS” devine astfel unul dintre cele mai importante proiecte din literatura graffiti, proiect prin care totodata se reflecta cat de mult aceasta cultura a fost asimilata de societate.
